Honestly happy I got into this hobby. As a broke college student I havent been able to go very far with it, but I had the luxury of making my first custom keeb over the summer and damn do I love it. I still find myself tapping the keys simply because it's fun and I love the sound. It also never goes unnoticed when I take photos at my desk lol (photography hobbyist as well)
Just got into the custom keyboard hobby halfway into 2021 and already deep into it. This was a very interesting dive into the history of this niche hobby, and a very well producer & interesting video! You deserve many more subscribers! Keep these hits coming and your channel will have a very bright future! 👍
I'm glad it exists and it was started by companies like Apple and IBM with their Alps and buckling switches and made really popular by Razer (1st gaming peripheral maker). God bless.
As someone who's been in this hobby since 2016 I remember my first truly custom keyboard a cartel x contra ortholinear 40% keyboard. Looking back I bought it because I can't afford to build a gh60. Nowadays you can build a pretty decent keyboard for under a $100. The only thing I hate nowadays is that the emphasis on sound is much more apparent compared to build quality and typing feel in this hobby than before.
Popped up in my recommended, really glad I clicked. Video was super entertaining and made me check out some of your other ones which were also really nice. Love your content, nowadays keyboard content is mainly paid promotions but what you're doing is really unique and entertaining, keep it up!!!!
One more thing 02 is bringing is more budget but incredible keyboard kit from China. They literaly bring the price of nice features like south facing led, gasket mounted, knob and full acrylic case to the ground.
Shouout to Taeha Types, 3ildcat, TaeKeyboards, and Optimum Tech for dragging me in this custom mechanical keyboard rabbit hole. It's literally started from me searching for apple extended keyboard sound test lmao.
Love your channel! I started watching Glarses when he had a similar amount of subs and I remember thinking, hmm why doesn't he have more subs? Now look at his channel. I'm thinking the same about your high quality content. Keep it up man
I have watched very few videos on custom keyboards, and clicked on this video interested in the topic. Had a quick look and can tell you 100% this will be your most successful video. 10k minimum.
Dude, what a great video, it's been more than a year since I've been part of the custom keyboards community and I had no idea of the story behind it, actually I never went after it, but out of nowhere my fy appears ''The Evolution of the Keyboard Hobby'' and I think ''damn, what will be the first custom keyboard?'' and wow, what a great video, I loved the mood, the vibe, script, editing, everything. Congratulations
akko really is game changer. i want to point out also that another game changer was the inclusion of keeb parts on ali express and shopee. I lived on singapore on 2017-2019 and i started on the hobby only in 2015. i used to only find boards on drop, novelkeys and kbd fans, when i moved back to my country, brasil, parts were absurdly more expensive due to shipping and customs fees, i had to pay almost 400usd for a drop gmmk oblivion set due to shipping and taxes. Aliexpress and shopee gave me the opportunity to buy tons and tons of options for a fraction of the cost i used to pay, almost 1x1 to regular price and this completely changed the market of emergent economies. Now, with budget boards and a lot of experimentation, i can easily say that budget boards can look and sound as good as premium boards. Things like abs keycaps readily avaiable, really nice layouts for boards at cheaper price than design boards (im typing on a alice akko right now) and the vast amount of switchs ,cables, stabs, lube easily found on ali going usually with free shipping is a godsend thing for us on 3rd world countries.Indeed, im glad that elitism is slowly dying out and everyone can enjoy what a good keyboard sounds like.
Been in the hobby since 2017, I remember that time where having a hotswap board is "not ideal" since the switches are easily removable when you are removing the keycaps. Mill max mod is the hype. My first keeb was a 3 pin outemu hotswap board and it cost a ton. Now with the same money, I can buy an AKKO hotswap custom DIY kit for less. And remember the time where buying a simple BOW and WOB keycaps will cost you are fortune. Time flies. Boards like CIYTESTER68 is a full custom board with a very cheap price tag. Loving the innovations in the hobby. More people in the hobby, more competitions and lower prices!

It was really cool to learn about the history of the hobby as someone who has only been in this rabbit hole for a year or two. Great video man!
Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!
i feel like such an old head, having been in the hobby since 2018
