4 Months ago i bought a GMMK Pro and everybody told me to just get a QK75 or even a Q1. But i wanted the challenge after hearing that it needs a lot of love. I wanted to learn how i can change a board from scratch. I found out a lot and after trying 7 different types of switches, 3 stabs, 2 sets of Keycaps, 2 different plates and many many different mods, i learned so much and love the result of the board. A good friend, who''s years in the hobby tested it and couldn't believe the sound for this specific board.
Best tip in the hobby: Don't listen to all the shills! Just enjoy it and build what you like!

i did the same, at the time i started i bought a DROP CTRL, because that was my best option at the time for what i was going for and i knew it had flaws, which i didnt care for as i was just starting so i had to explore all the possibilities to form an opinion, and anytime i showed it, i was mostly told "get x, get y" "should have bought z", like, damn, my bad let me just turn back time and start over champ
i got quite a decent build out of it, modded it to all hell with all sorts of wacky solutions to it's very specific problems, loved that thing, and it is the build that got my friend into custom keyboards, i offered to mod his GK61 looking board, improved it as best i could but he always looked up to mine as the "high end" (for our context / budget), and when i upgraded to something beyond that (current build is a Tiger80), i was not using the CTRL at all, so i gave it to him, and now it is sitting at his desk and from time to time he tells me about it and how nice it is

i've made it a habit to rotate through different mounting styles and enjoy it all, from top mount to plateless to gasket mount, so I don't really get bored of the my collection. I've reached a point now that I dont feel the need to go out and buy a new board anymore, unless it's something I really want. Great video!

I entered the hobby because it satisfied my love of doing detailed work and tinkering on stuff. I started with the basics-bought myself a cheap board and modded it (until now I still do mod it when I want to experiment) and started with Milky Yellow Pros haha. But true enough, I started spring swapping, then moving on to other boards (and even getting my first GMK set-the only one I have). Through all of these, I realized that I don’t like thock and I prefer a clackier sound profile (this was when everyone was chasing thock). This is really a fun hobby (but can be expensive).

Almost 2 years ago I started getting into the whole keyboard thing, I bought some average gaming prebuilt and replaced it months later with a TM680 which I’m still modding to this day, honestly I can’t believe the amount of cursed shit I’ve tried and how good I’ve gotten that board to be so far. I’m glad I took my time with it, now I’m still waiting on my zoom65 (which I considered my endgame when I joined the gb) and now I’m in love with the envoy lmao. I simultaneously love and hate this hobby.
Also charo with no beanie is a totally different person lol

I’m at the stage where I started learning Fusion360 to start designing my own boards. Don’t know if I’ll actually get any of them machined anytime soon but I will most definitely get some made in the future.

I follow the hype when i first start and try a lot of board but end up truly fall in love with singaboard both korn and kohaku (rip my wallet). both of them really bring out the best mx black sound IMO but I will give kohaku a better score than unikorn

I vividly remember getting the Q1 in 2021 because it was recommended to me by my friends, but I wasn't satisfied with the metallic hollow sound the board had. I spent ages trying to figure out how to make it "thock" because it was the hot shit, and was successful through all kinds of mods and switches imaginable. 2 years later I figured out my end game is simply "clack", when I tried out the Earth65 at the store, I immediately fell in love. It was perfect for me right out of the box. It just took me 4 boards and an unhealthy sum of money. Nowadays I'm more conservative and only interested if the keyboard has a cool/unique feature.

One of the biggest things for me is letting myself build what I want to build instead of just following all of the trends. I put case foam/dampening in almost every board. I love the sound. Even though the QK65 broke the entire hobby for a few months, I still love some PE foam. Just not on EVERY board. While trends can introduce you to cool new concepts and mods, you should just build the keyboard that YOU want to type on!

I first enter the hobby around December 2021, I bought a rkg68, after that I updated to gmmk pro, and then i switched back to anne pro 2 , after this then I started to buy lot of board and switch varying from milky yellow- ttc wild, zakus, green jacket.... and I bought the geon f2, geon f1, mr suit, jelly epoch. I realize all of the board above aren't my actual love so I sold all of it and decided to buy a kohaku with a Vintage black burn-in 3million time and lube+film with gmk keycap now and I think this is my end game tbh

    "I like yo cut G"
The trend part hit home I'm new very new but I like foams, I like more muted sound, I even snipped and sanded stems of my switches for a longer press as I felt the bottom out was too quick(long poles looking in disgust but I found old posts of people doing this after doing so) I'm also kinda lucky cause I get to take a lend of friends keebs and save money with my two keyboards while their stock could get you a few lavish holidays.
Switches are the most headache causing part I feel cause the opinions/reviews feel very trend based.

I started losing interest in keyboards when everything went towards pe foam, with a flex cut on every key. The marbly sounds was fun when it was just the jelly epoch, but every board after that was the same. The foam wasn't so much the problem, it's more that every pcb with foam needed a million flex cuts to stop the foam overwhelming the sound. Glad to see it's gone back to normal. I hate what flex cuts do to my precious mx brown or black on polycarbonate buils. Watched some recent sound tests and there's as no foam or tape, and a sigh of relief.

The play is always get a cheap hotswap and save for a better board. The options now are just incredible what you can get for your money and then once you secure that mid-high end board you give the cheap hotswap to your friend or family. Then run away from the hobby and save your money for a house and find a partner.
