Hey, I remember a Dev talking about this on a forum post a couple years ago. So basically, the game started out a bit differently with a few different planned endings that were ultimately scrapped, however because all the FMV‘s were already rendered into a single file and had separated audio files to play voice clips and music cues they couldn’t just delete a scrapped ending or it would mess with all the other cutscenes’ sequences. This “Easter egg“ was actually left over code from the Dev test lamp which plays the audio from the falling cliff fmv and the scrapped guillotine ending. Funnily enough the actual guillotine audio is just gwimbly saying “ooo ooo uh-ooo” let’s load a different save and try again”
When I was a kid, I saw this. It made me snap. I couldn’t stop saying Gwimbly’s iconic catchphrase, “ooh ooh oooh!”, My eyes got hyper-realistic and bloody!! They took me to the asylum. They had a campaign where they used Gwimbly posters to make people calm down. My condition got worse. I still can’t stop saying it. *”Ooh, ooh, ooh!”*

@@silversonome5360 we grieve together brother, the bit I remember most is that they had the creamed corn but also had cottage cheese which gave you a power boost eg mushroom in Mario Kart, it was well ahead of its time on the real world fitness aspects

This legit happened to me as a kid and I thought my computer was infected with some nasty ransomware or something it was so scary. That’s why I’m not as much of a fan of the 2D point and click edutainment spinoffs and moreso the original series, but I guess spinoffs are inevitable when a video game franchise gets as big as Gwimbly.
man if my child soul back then had not found this, i would live a life where i wont worry about a buff guy breaking into my house and ripping my nose off
Oh i remember that cut scene, it was really cool though because if you had the super gwimbly power up active, no scream plays and you can hear metal crunching, implying that he broke the blade with his neck.
Man, can't believe I missed this! I must have hundreds of hours on this game, but only found the surface level secrets, like the "" or the nimrod knife. Boy, if young me could've seen this coming Thanks for the share!
This was actually confirmed to be a rendering glitch by the devs. In the original scene, gwimbly would cut a tomato and scream in delight after seeing the fruits of his labor. I bet you won't look at this scary scene the same way again!!

Two fun facts 1. This Easter egg went almost completely undocumented outside of vague rumours for 20 years. Probably a good thing. If the media had found out the devs would have been in hot water. 2. It has a 1 in 6666 chance of triggering instead of the usual game over screen if you run out of lives. So if it happened to you consider yourself lucky... or unlucky.

The damn thumbnail lmaooo 😂
Every video essay thumbnail be like
i was so scared of this as a kid
that’s fucking scary
I’d shit my pants if I saw that if I was young
When I was a kid, I saw this. It made me snap. I couldn’t stop saying Gwimbly’s iconic catchphrase, “ooh ooh oooh!”, My eyes got hyper-realistic and bloody!! They took me to the asylum. They had a campaign where they used Gwimbly posters to make people calm down. My condition got worse. I still can’t stop saying it. *”Ooh, ooh, ooh!”*
Gwimby did not deserve capital punishment 😔
Holy SHITTTT I thought this was something I made up in my head…bringing back so many memories, thanks for sharing legend! Also can I just say, I never got over how they cancelled Gwimbly Racing: Optimum Pace…it looked so good
I KNOW. Like, ok, a Gwimbly racing game where he runs instead of using like, a car, that felt weird - but then we got the story trailer, and it turns out it's actually a cardio routine because he's eaten that much creamed corn! Like that is genius! I'll never forgive IGG for cancelling it...
@@silversonome5360 we grieve together brother, the bit I remember most is that they had the creamed corn but also had cottage cheese which gave you a power boost eg mushroom in Mario Kart, it was well ahead of its time on the real world fitness aspects
that is how he was born... gwimbly.exe....
CREEPY things found in FAMILY FRIENDLY games
My worst memory as a child was when I was being grimbly and he said "fuck and my mom beat me to death
BRUH?! shit was hidden in plain sight, can’t believe i didn’t try this in one of my many runs of gwimbly, wtf?!
My brother played this game to death literally he saw this cutscene and wanted to try it himself! We found him the next day...!
I love how subtly stupid and absurd this is
what. i dont understand
They had an reference to that in the DS game too. When you go to the castle, if you go to the torture chamber, they have the device and if you go to interact with it, he’ll say, “Been there, done that.”
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Even though it came out back in 1993, the puzzles were surprisingly challenging for a kid's game.
cant believe there was a Rusty Cage cameo on gwimbly 3
I think that this was what started the rumor at my school that every Gwimbly game had some sort of “Headless Gwimbly” secret in it.
I remember being scared as a kid after finding out this Easter egg as a kid but i manged to ealey come over the fear in a couple of minutes and then i showed this creepy gwimbley ester egg to my brother and traumatized him. even finding a second disturbing gwimbly secret in the process (although the second creepy inconter was rare game over screen that was not super scary but it was still pretty unsettling) and he was scared as fu¢k and disturbed by the inconter.. Btw i still tease him about the incident as a joke he's not scared as he used to be. Good times.
Absolutely twisted. Can't believe the devs added this.
Back in elementary school during computer class, me and my friend played this game. My friend got this scene and gasped. I only got a quick glimpse of this because I was playing in a separate computer.
I never knew, damn that's really dark for a Gwimbly game.
Given what happened to the franchise after this game this was really foreshadowing.
Lost gem, glad to see more people remember this masterpiece. Truly ahead of its time.
How did I miss the Gwimbly web quest, my childhood musta been shit
man if my child soul back then had not found this, i would live a life where i wont worry about a buff guy breaking into my house and ripping my nose off
Dudeee seeing this for the first time as a homunculus was scary as heck bro, i unplugged the computer and had nightmares for weeks. Good times
That 2008 outro was the icing on the cake
completely forgot about this scene this shit made me laugh so hard
I remember seeing this scene accidently as a child
I couldn't sleep for several nights...
Wait I remember this I all ways thought it was a nightmare
disturbing and real, I cant believe the developers left such a dark easter egg in a popular kids game.
i remember seeing this as a little tadpole.. shit was terrifying
I remember accidentally coming across this as a kid, and I haven't been the same since.
Boy, if young me could've seen this coming
Thanks for the share!
This was actually confirmed to be a rendering glitch by the devs. In the original scene, gwimbly would cut a tomato and scream in delight after seeing the fruits of his labor. I bet you won't look at this scary scene the same way again!!
Man, it crazy what these programmers can hide from us for so many years.
What a blast from the past, I myself am a young adult but my family was poor so I commonly got things from my older sibling (who is in their late 20’s). I absolutely loved the gwimbly games, I remember replaying them over and over after my sibling showed them to me.
I remember getting this Easter egg and thinking it was just a fever dream. It feels so surreal now knowing this actually was in the game
Two fun facts
1. This Easter egg went almost completely undocumented outside of vague rumours for 20 years. Probably a good thing. If the media had found out the devs would have been in hot water.
2. It has a 1 in 6666 chance of triggering instead of the usual game over screen if you run out of lives. So if it happened to you consider yourself lucky... or unlucky.
I have never experienced this terror in a new gaslight era.
