The reason I heard the game was taken down was because it was a free and improved FNAF 2. I think Phiznom had talked about on one of his stream but I don't remember which one.

If anything, I imagine Scott had the game taken down for a similar reason to what you mentioned at the beginning of the video: the game wasn't just going to be free, it was also going to be open source. Not only would people be able to re-upload the game, they'd be able to potentially charge money for it. Considering how incredible this open beta looked, it would be really easy to fool young fans into thinking it was an official remake that they'd want to pay for. Obviously, this would be an issue for Scott and his IP if people were making money off of it, and I doubt he would have taken action if FNaF 2: OS featured "original" characters rather than Scott's. That's my theory, anyway. If anyone else got to that thought before me, full credit to them.

It'll be insane if FNaF+ ends up doing well enough to motivate Phisnom to go and finish off FNaF2OS in an official manner Addendum; Evidently, things did not get insane
@@justatanuki.6495 I know, but FNaF+ is probably still a ways off, so there's plenty of time for any potential decision reconsidering to happen if it's going to happen
I actually like the office in FNAF 2. It was clearly going for a serenity dissonance thing, and I personally found the contrasts between creepy monster robots and cheery kids-party stuff really well done.
With the fact that the demo was a custom night, we practically already have a full remake of FNAF 2. The fact that FNAF plus spawned from it just means we got two incredibly amazing remakes of both games, I'd definitely say FNAF OS being taken down, in the long run, only positively contributed to the series which is crazy to think about.
i always liked using the cameras in fnaf games. Main reason why i found fnaf 3 and the concept of having to look hard in order to find where springtrap has hidden pretty intriguing
I have to give Scott kudos for understanding that phisnom was such a critical mind that they were worth bringing to the project to make it really stand out beyond a respriting
Dang, it’s a real shame this wasn’t finished. It definitely sounds more like a remix of the game rather than a copy of it, and it sounds like it improved on the original in so many ways. I kind of wish it wasn’t dead and that it would be considered for a FNAF2+
can see why Scott didn't want this not only is it FNAF 2 but better and for free, it was open source, which means making fangames would be just as easy as making FNF mods, and no one wants that.
At least some bangers came out of FNF mods and some creators put in a nice amount of effort into them, but just like FNAF 2's fan remake, it may open the door for Steam Greenlight style oversaturation where it may become harder to find recommendable projects. Scott be like "nothing personal, just business." And in this case, he at least encouraged a different approach and invited the developer. Just like Nintendo should.
I love it when game developers allow people to make fangames. I think it’s really cool Scott let him make FNAF Plus. I imagine the reason for this game being taken down is because people could think it’s an official remake, and since it’s open source, it could inhibit originality when you could just use that source code.
Yea I love how we could've had this, and then Scott took it down, then gave his blessing for fnaf plus, and now fnaf plus has been canceled. Bummer day
i choose to believe that the real reason scott took down the game was because he foresaw all the free asset flips that would occur and went "nope, fuck that"
Free - Open Source - Directly ripping assets from existing Scott games. Yeah, no wonder it was taken down. Imagine if you ripped Minecraft assets and basically just rebuilt it and started publishing it for free. Think Mojang would have something to say about that?
In my opinion: I think it's better that this game was shut down when it was. Not cause it allowed FNAF+ to be a thing, but because I don't think giving that level of like creative control to anyone would've been a good thing. I'm sure there'll be people who will use it as a learning experience to understand Game Maker, I'm sure there'll be people who'll make amazing games with new ideas and concepts, and I'm sure there'll be people who will use it as any kind of learning experience unrelated to FNAF for their future. But I don't think a grand majority of the public will use it responsibly and just create meaningless garbage. It'll be like the I Wanna Be The Guy Engine that someone made all over again, not everyone knows how to make an engaging (I get "good" might be stretching for IWBTG) product and it lead to a flurry of garbage that compelled the creators to do everything they can to not make it available.
I thought this was gonna be a video on the Return to Freddys, since back when that game was called FNAF 3: Fan Made, Scott heavily disapproved of it at the time. Causing the name change,
I genuinely think the #1 issue with FNAF 2 is the role of the puppet. The puppet was put in the game to make the cameras required, but the better solution would be to ditch the office lights and make checking the vents a camera and audio role. Foxy already is the check for cheesing with the mask, so that's another point of redundancy for the puppet. If you add in the dedicated cove for mangle and add some bonus advantages for the cameras, it would work better. There are so many options for making cams useful, and sadly forcing the player to use it to prevent death is a mistake because it both makes one camera more important than the others and also demands the time of the cameras all be dedicated to that.
@@mitchhubercick4837 There hasn't been any news on a new Fnaf plus. But I think them removing the steam page and the fact that they haven't taken down the fangame one shows it's more than likely that Fnaf plus is dead. EDIT: The youtube channel is also taken down so any of the lore is gone too. Pretty certain its gone and they aren't bringing it back.
Phisnom really understand the importance of cameras and different mechanics in a FNaF game, no wonder why his take on FNaF 2 is far better by just adding more camera function to different character rather than stuck on one place The only game that sucessfully utilized cameras are FNaF 3
@@texel76not only that but the first game also wasn't that clear on what foxy's mechanic did. Its using the cameras in general that stalled him, not looking at *his*. With this, people basically only used the cameras on foxy while instead they could've used the cameras to try and see where freddy is at.
All these old comments talking about how Phisnom bringing up whats wrong with each game and making their own out of spite is cool, when to me that was always the first sign of just how toxic they were. At no point did it read as genuine constructive criticism and instead read as "You have no idea what you are doing, so I'm just gonna do your job for you" Which is mind numbingly dumb considering none of us would be here if they weren't atleast somewhat good?? I truly will not miss FNAF+ and it's horrendous animatronic designs. For someone who keeps saying they know better than Scott Cawthon, they rarely do.
I'm actually glad this wasn't released open source, the creator of FNAF 2 Open Source had a really good concept on their hands and to something so good like this, the creator should just keep it and improve (well until the situation with Scott Cawthon) but hey I'm glad they are making fnaf plus.
We’re going back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu, that’s right. We’re going back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu
The original FNAF was made out of spite after critics said Scott's previous characters looked like creepy animatronics. FNAF Plus is being made out of mutual spite after an argument between Scott and a fangame developer We've come full circle
We can all agree that Scott is a pretty reasonable guy. I'm sure he isn't 100% perfect, but he's been a chill and really nice guy. He deserves to be happy for all of time. Also let's be honest, there will never be any other indie horror dev like Scott Cawthon. Edit: Before anyone says anything, I'm not implying that there are no other indie devs that are as talented as Scott, I'm saying no one will be "Like" Scott, personality wise.
That last sentence is a bold claim to make, even as someone who enjoys fnaf. You can't predict the future, and it’s insulting to those who are trying to make their own original horror indie games, since you're claiming they can never be as good as Scott before they even start developing or are recognized for their work. Lest we forget that before fnaf no one knew who the hell Scott was. Cut people some slack, it's an unfair assumption.
@@_gorillazfreakinc._2 "they can never be as good as Scott" that isn't what they said at all..they said be LIKE scott, not that they'll all fail at game making! You seriously read their comment wrong, put words in their mouth, and made wrong assumptions.
imo, removing the music box is the easiest (and laziest) "solution" possible. The problem isn't the music box, it's the fact that everything else is not important. The game only is a "Look at Puppet's camera" simulator because there's NOTHING worth looking at. If you made the camera's valuable, like they are in fnaf 1, maybe with the Mangle thingy or other stuff, the music box wouldn't be so annoying. Maybe nerf it a little bit so it doesn't decrease so rappidly, but still keep it there! Like, this fangame already added a lot of mechanics that make the cameras more useful, like Mangle's and the Withered's, so WHY remove the Puppet?
This whole situation can be summed up with this Phisnom: so you took down my fan game? Will be prepared for me to list everything wrong with the entire FNAF fran- Scott: *WHY DON'T YOU DO IT THEN*
@Nobody I agree with you for the most part, however FNAF 4 easily has the best gameplay in the main series. If FNAF 4's gameplay is repetitive, then FNAF 3 is tens times more repetitive.
1st: The fangame in question looks EXTREMELY cool in with the graphics and everything. It's a shame it's banned or whatever 2nd: I actually really like FNAF 2's gameplay :(
I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't like FNAF 2's gameplay, but I get why you do. It's challenging, but I think it's an incredibly luck reliant mess of a game.
I really love how the animatronics are so much more reactive in this one. How they twitch when you flash them with the camera. That's really cool and creepy.
Really glad that Phisnom was given the opportunity to make FNaF Plus after FNaF 2 O.S. was taken down, you can kinda see it as more of a flattering thing since Scott never takes down fan games that are basically just the original but slightly different so for his game to get taken down was truly a feat.
the reasoning for the takedown is simply because open-sourcing a remake of monetized products are always messy and steer right into copyright infringement and asset theft, intentionally or unintentionally by the community around the os when people can modify assets in. scott himself was extremely impressed at the game itself, so much so he gave Phisnom a job to work with him making Fnaf plus.
@@The_REAL_WannabeCake Basically the creator was exposed as a groomer. I think he said himself that he did it before Flumptys was even a thing. Thankfully he has stated that he has been going to therapy
I feel like a good way to explain the TOXIC meter is by explaining the cleaning crew uses super potent chemicals to clean every part of the animatronics, so when you put it on you’re huffing those
Since Scott did end up working together with Phisnom and allowing them to make a remake of a FNaF game, why didn't he revert the ban on this game at that point? It could probably have been added to the Fazbear Fanverse as well. If it had been rereleased as a paid game in collaboration with Scott, the problem of it being a free better FNaF 2 wouldn't have been there anymore.
Because of open source, open source means anybody can code the game however they want so people can just remake FNAF 2 the exact same as costs but for free aka stealing his words
So your were a little off the mark with why this game was taken down. The reason why is because it was open source, people could have easily modified it into a free version of FNaF 2 with better visuals and audio. I do want to note that this may have just been speculation as to why it was taken down, but it feels like the most likely one, and I vaguely remember that being the reason confirmed.
*fan makes a fangame* SEGA: Wow you are pretty talented, would you like to come work for us? Scott: thank you for your feedback, you are pretty talented. would you like to make a remake? CAPCOM: Wow you are pretty talented, would you like to come work for us? Nintendo: So you have chosen death..
fnaf 1 did good with cameras but most of the time you can just keep it on foxy while fnaf 2 has no option but a game that did good with cameras is fnaf 3 when you have to use the voice to lure springtrap away which sometimes leads to you needing to go to other cameras so the camera system just got better through the games.
Remember when Phil told his entire fan base to email and harass Scott to ask him why he took down the game even though he broke one of the 2 fan game rules? And then he harassed Steel Wool to try and force them to show SB before they were ready and then when they did he complained because it looked unfinished? Yeah... I love Philip Nom
I have really seen a lot of people saying those 3 things but, when I see their content, there is NO ONE who has said anything on that subject, not even himself, which makes me think that they are simply either lying or completely misinterpreting some concrete situation
"There's no skill (or strategy) involved, it's really all about how good you are at..." Me: Wait isn't that what skill is? How good you are at something. Lol I get what you mean but this cracked me up.
One idea I thought of was hearing Foxys footsteps coming down the hall, if you flash him, he will back up, but at random, he will charge down the hall and you have to flash him to stun him for a moment before putting the mask on.
9:32 - honestly, I liked how it was done in VR. There, you could hear and see his eyes entering the office… making it noticeable for you to time the mask.
If you really think about how FNAF: OS is set up, it's genius. It's the perfect blend of office time and camera time. This has upped by appreciation for my favorite streamer by a mile.
One little thing that I never liked that much is animatronics doing the weird jittery movement. Sometimes it ends up being more goofy than anything, like we already know they're haunted, mainly because a robot bunny with its face ripped off or a chicken with no hands and a dislocated jaw shouldn't be moving around on their own. I'm not saying the jittery movement isn't creepy if used correctly it's amazing, what i'm saying is that sometimes is more redundant than anything, you're trying to give something a possesed vibe when you already know it's so possesed no amount of holy water would help you.
Does anybody saw that during the animatronics flashing into the screen scene, the pig that appears into the prize corner and the public beta message also appears
From my vast memory, I believe he took it down because everyone who downloaded it got a virus warning on their computers because it had an unknown file in it that computers believed were a virus but weren’t, so it was thought that open source was this virus game. (It wasn’t). So it was taken down, I don’t think it was Scott who took it down but I don’t fully remember
As far as I know, the actual reason why Scott took this game down was because it was simply FNaF2 but better. It has the same characters and the same location, but with rebalanced mechanics, smoother controls and better visuals. Since the game would've been free, it would have made the original FNaF2 almost completely obsolete. While I'm sad this project was shut down, I am happy that it ended up giving Phisnom the opportunity to make FNaF Plus instead.
Nope, not really. Aside from the FNAF2 but better, the game is fully open-source, which can cause a lot of problems when the actual FNAF2 is a paid game. People can directly pirate the actual FNAF2 assets, put it in this game for free, and either share it or monetize it as their own game. Which hurts the original product.
@@stitchfinger7678 No ones making money off FNAF OS. Again this was a fan game, like hundreds of other fan remakes and "unlocked" versions of FNAF 2 that didn't get taken down.
I don’t get him bashing the Music box so much- pirate’s cove in the first game was the same thing. Keep the cam on one screen to check they haven’t gotten upset. That’s not just a “silly fnaf 2 problem”
Great vid! Although there is something I think you explained kinda wrong, I'm pretty sure that Scott didn't take it down just assuming it was a literal copy of FNAF 2 free, but that he saw that it was basically a better version of his game and free on gamejolt so he took it down thinking that it might hurt sales of FNAF 2, but that's pretty much it tho.
Honestly glad you decided not to talk about fnaf plus. I love the trailers/teasers but like you said at this point its "old" and boring. Loved the video and can't wait for your video when fnaf plus comes out and I know this isn't normal for the channel but I'd love to see you play it
the fact that BOTH of phisnom's fangames got canceled by scott for petty reasons sucks so much. i don't blame phil for not wanting anything to do with fnaf anymore
no that was because one crazy ass fan that was stalking him and hurting herself and his fans sending death threats to others when he wanted the threats to himself
Have you ever covered the fangame title: New Nights at Freddy’s? It’s a pretty good. It’s basically combined most of the OG games and give mechanics similar to Fnaf 4. Such as using the flashlight a lot. Pretty much a redesign of veries parts of fnaf series
The funny thing is, you only need the cameras in FNAF 1 for Pirate's Cove and the East Corner, you only need to use one camera in FNAF 3 to spam the audio button because Springtrap will just go back there immediately after he leaves, you don't even have cameras in FNAF 4, FNAF SL barely has anything to do with the cameras, and FNAF Pizza Sim doesn't have cameras either. You never REALLY have to use the cameras in and Five Nights game. The only game demanding enough of the cameras is FNAF 1 because you need to use AT LEAST 2 cameras.
You don't even need to look at Pirate's Cove, Foxy's timer freezes every time you look at the cameras in general, look up Tech Rules for the video explain the whole game.
in fact, in the calls themselves they tell you, they never talk about looking specifically at your camera, just having the panel turned on, you really only need 1 camera too, the fnaf with the best camera playability is without a doubt fnaf3 XD

Obviously, this would be an issue for Scott and his IP if people were making money off of it, and I doubt he would have taken action if FNaF 2: OS featured "original" characters rather than Scott's.

I actually like the office in FNAF 2. It was clearly going for a serenity dissonance thing, and I personally found the contrasts between creepy monster robots and cheery kids-party stuff really well done.
Its comparative openness also feels a lot less “safe” than the first game. Especially thanks to the lack of doors.
It also shows just how big the animatronics are compared to the player in their lil chair.
Phisnom basically responded to Scott’s take down by saying, “Your Jordan’s are fake” and got a job for it.
*Your Jordan’s are fake*
*Crying* “Such words, you’re hired
“Wait, What!”
With the fact that the demo was a custom night, we practically already have a full remake of FNAF 2. The fact that FNAF plus spawned from it just means we got two incredibly amazing remakes of both games, I'd definitely say FNAF OS being taken down, in the long run, only positively contributed to the series which is crazy to think about.

can see why Scott didn't want this
not only is it FNAF 2 but better and for free, it was open source, which means making fangames would be just as easy as making FNF mods, and no one wants that.
Also with open source people could edit the game to be like the originals so people would just downloaded the rip off mid instead of the real games
At least some bangers came out of FNF mods and some creators put in a nice amount of effort into them, but just like FNAF 2's fan remake, it may open the door for Steam Greenlight style oversaturation where it may become harder to find recommendable projects. I love it when game developers allow people to make fangames. I think it’s really cool Scott let him make FNAF Plus. I imagine the reason for this game being taken down is because people could think it’s an official remake, and since it’s open source, it could inhibit originality when you could just use that source code.

"if this is truly Phisnom's final fnaf game, thats a hell of a way to go out."
Oh you poor food fight dog, i am so sorry
There are so many options for making cams useful, and sadly forcing the player to use it to prevent death is a mistake because it both makes one camera more important than the others and also demands the time of the cameras all be dedicated to that.

imo, removing the music box is the easiest (and laziest) "solution" possible.

Really glad that Phisnom was given the opportunity to make FNaF Plus after FNaF 2 O.S. was taken down, you can kinda see it as more of a flattering thing since Scott never takes down fan games that are basically just the original but slightly different so for his game to get taken down was truly a feat.
the reasoning for the takedown is simply because open-sourcing a remake of monetized products are always messy and steer right into copyright infringement and asset theft, intentionally or unintentionally by the community around the os when people can modify assets in.

Since Scott did end up working together with Phisnom and allowing them to make a remake of a FNaF game, why didn't he revert the ban on this game at that point? It could probably have been added to the Fazbear Fanverse as well. If it had been rereleased as a paid game in collaboration with Scott, the problem of it being a free better FNaF 2 wouldn't have been there anymore.

fnaf 1 did good with cameras but most of the time you can just keep it on foxy while fnaf 2 has no option but a game that did good with cameras is fnaf 3 when you have to use the voice to lure springtrap away which sometimes leads to you needing to go to other cameras so the camera system just got better through the games.
Remember when Phil told his entire fan base to email and harass Scott to ask him why he took down the game even though he broke one of the 2 fan game rules? Fun fact:one of the reason why phisnom made fnaf 2 open source is that he hated the music box and wanted to get rid of it.
I remember getting a download of the game a couple days before it was taken down. Still have the zip on my hard drive, it's a great demo!
i know that this is 1 year ago but like mind a Google drive link
Does anybody saw that during the animatronics flashing into the screen scene, the pig that appears into the prize corner and the public beta message also appears
I love to imagine Scott just saw the game and took it down, then sent the creator an email just saying ‘grrrrrrrrr’
