Chinese used to goto Australia but now Australia is restricting them, then Singapore education is good but very expensive only for the elite rich, and then the other budget option is Malaysia..cheaper than Singapore.

If the Chinese who have schools among the top in world going to Malaysia which is the closest to Singapore. Something smells wrong. I feel that it is to influence Malaysians who can walk into Singapore very easily and integrate into society with ease.
Thats because the British helped them by giving Cheng Loke the authority to give land to the Chinese for them to mortgage the land to the Chartered Bank or OCBC, for loan and made that as capital for business to control the economy. The Malays were denied anything. No loan from those 2 banks. No giving of land. Only a bunch few got the land but they could only plant padi. Anything else, the land will be confiscated. These were classified documents that were declassified. Thats why we know. When a Malay lawyer by the name of Maarof established a bank to help the Malay to give loans to start their businesses, he was kidnapped and murdered, probably by the British and since all the heads in the government were British, the case was closed. Since then the British let the Chinese control the economy. Any Malay who would like to venture into business, will be sabotaged by the Chinese. Thats why we have New Economic Policy. The Malays is also helping the Chinese to buy their goods, if not they would go bankrupt in their business, as Chinese are not good spenders.
They are not entirely coming to Malaysia to study. They are from rich chinese families going to Malaysia to network to explore business opportunities etc. They are not expected to get a job from the open market in Malaysia which is already very very tough for Local grads...after getting their degree they are going home for the family business or setting up business in Malaysia. So getting educated is kind of by the way kind of thing.
It's probably the same in Indonesia. At least in Jakarta, there have been more and more Chinese engineers and workers coming in to work on a variety of different projects, industrial and residential. Life is tough back in mainland China that they are willing to come to work here, though I think they would appreciate the lower living costs as well.
Most Chinese students will study up to A levels or IB before moving onto Western universities. Some may opt for private or twinned universities in Malaysia where the quota does not apply. For employment, their chances lie with the 400+ SOEs or the Chinese industries that are based there. I do agree that the Gaokao and the lower cost of international schools plus the wish to acquire a second or third language for their children are the key drivers. Nonetheless this is a well researched analysis of the current trend.
You did not mention the quota of admissions reserved for Bumiputras. That in itself reduces the availability of places for non Malays, least of all, Chinese nationals. This does not support what you are saying and if anything, these are mainland Chinese who are "paying" to get in, having been rejected by other universities elsewhere in the world.
Most Chinese would be applying for places in international schools or private universities. A master's degree with a twinning UK or Australia university is relatively affordable.
Hi there, thank you for the comment. You might have missed it but the context of the video is focused on Mainland Chinese students enrolling in private international schools/universities where we understand that the Bumiputera quota does not apply. Nonetheless, we stand to be corrected. Hope that clarifies. Cheers!
The "private" universities are mostly " related" to their western counterparts. Complete your studies at a "more affordable" country and away from the " chinese live matters" issues in the Western world are swaying the chinese parents to sent their loved ones to the Malaysia with 7 million chop sticks carrying mandarins speaking "distance relatives" country. BTW, low cost of living, cheap MM2H (a safe house if "you know, you know") is a no-brainer. Hope it makes sense !
Most mainland Chinese students pursue Masters or PhD programs at Malaysian public universities; first degrees at public universities are normally reserved for Malaysian citizens. Of course foreigners could still study for their Bachelors at private ( not public) universities.
I talked to a mainland student regarding this matter and he told me he did not attain high marks and had to look around for other universities. The students accepted in mainland have very high marks.
Best balance between everything. education quality, environment, opportunity, spending cost, safety, life quality, beginner friendly to immerse and adapt diverse environment
Malaysia's brain drain is only due to one key factor, the strength of SG Dollar vs MY Ringgit. Brain drain will stop if both currencies are almost similar.
Mainland Chinese are not coming for Government schools in Malaysia. The International schools in Malaysia are cheaper here than in Australia, NZ and UK. It’s common sense. They are not here for our Govt schools .
There are 2 type of university in Malaysia, 1) is purely for academic purpose we call it menara gading 2) is for the job market more to technology engineering and vocational skill
There are many local Chineses in Malaysia which makes them feel at home, besides the quality of Malaysia university is considered high and English standards are also high in Malaysia.
More Chinese students have chosen to enrol into affordable Xiamen University & other CHINA Universities for their future career development mobilisation from Bumi discrimenation
Malaysia private university have tuning arrangement with many Aussie, UK and American University. The international school are highly recognised sitting UK GCE and A level exam. The standard of education is much higher then many US university. In fact some US degree not all recognised in Malaysia. Only medicine degree even MBA as well. you can get Doctorate title awarded not through study by recommendation as well. Not in Malaysia.
It is not a question of educational cost, stress, or unemployment in China. It is a political matter, considering the current tension between the United States and China, where hate creates risk for the Chinese. Safety must come first. Remember, for China, the State is for the people.
There're many reasons and complicated ! 1) relatively cheaper compare to elsewhere especially US/UK/Europe. 2) US/UK/Europe less safety & security in recent years especially the rise in tension between china & US. 3) china chinese are less welcome by US/UK
They choose to study BM in malaysia because malaysian govt did not open language courses for foreginers abroad like the ones deployed by Indonesia, India, China, Japan, Korea, etc.
the reason is economics. Malaysian should be cautious of this development. Malaysian higher education sector must avoid being seen as over favoring students from China. higher education standards must be maintained and not sacrificed just to placate this group of students.
Hi there, thank you for the comment. The video was referring to youth unemployment in Malaysia, not unemployment in general. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, youth unemployment (15 - 24 years old) has been rather high, hovering around the 10% mark or more over the last few years. But don't take our word for it - do google it to fact-check it yourself too. Cheers!
Chinese students seeking education in Malaysia may come to regret their decision. They should have researched why the majority of Malaysian Chinese choose to study abroad rather than at Malaysian universities. In fact, many second-tier universities in China often surpass Malaysian institutions in quality, as reflected in global university rankings. Once classes begin, these students may find themselves being taught by lecturers and professors who lack adequate knowledge or expertise, often achieving their positions due to privilege rather than merit. This can lead to a situation where students are left without proper guidance. By the end of their courses, they may receive First Class Honours, yet feel unprepared and lacking in substantial knowledge.
There is a stark difference in quality of public and private university in Malaysia which is not addressed at all in this video. The public university in Malaysia produce graduates that didn’t quite match the job market demand in recent years, beside most of these graduates posses poor command of English as they were by and large gone through the national type of schools where medium of teaching are in BM. On the other hand, graduates from private universities like Sunway University and UTAR went through a different path where English is more emphasised and widely spoken, these universities are also more in touch with what the job market demand.
One thing you need to be very clear is that there are 2 types of education systems in Malaysia, the 1st one is the government system, which sucks a lot, the PISA bad rating, students lack life-skills, graduate unable to get a job, these are mostly from the goverment schools & universities. The 2nd education system is the privately own funded universities & colleges. These are born out necessities because Malaysia's government discriminates & marginally non-Malay, namely the Chinese & Indian, their chances of entry to the government public universities are very, very slim. The quality of private education is much better than the government's. No country is perfect, Malaysia is certainly not a perfect country, that is why Malaysia is suffering "brain-drain" with many talented Malaysians are studying & working overseas for better future, and many Malaysians actually migrated out & settled in other countries. The grass is Not always greener at the other side of the fence. The grass is greener when you watered it.
Its easier to pass from Private Universities compared to the Public Universities because they wouldnt fail the students as this will project a poor image for themselves. I have a friend who lectured in private university. He said the management told him to pass the student, eventhough to him, they should fail.
IMHO, if you want to increase your job prospects in the global economy, go to an English medium university. If you are happy with the kampung economy, stay with BM.
Graduates from private universities are generally good in English whereas some graduates from public universities especially those from rural areas aren't that good.
@@ardentblue7493 It has everything to do with this YT. You want to export your education system, don't you? Who wants BM educated graduates without a good grasp of the international lingua franca? Unless you want to work in the Kampung Economy. I hope you know about Aviation English. Medicine is taught in English in the top Russian universities.
@@RUHappyATM but this video tells about why the number of chinese from mainland studying in malaysia is increasing.. unless this video is asking opinion or question to the viewers such as "between english and BM-medium university, which one is better?" only then your point is valid and make sense
Higher education in Malaysia opens doors to markets in S E Asia by learning English/Bahasa Malaysia and English and Mandarin widely spoken within its multiracial society. MQA-accredited degrees in Malaysia are widely recognized in China after earlier agreements reached. Also, living costs are low since China GDP is about 150% higher than Malaysia.
Your narrative is extremely bias and false. Dissatisfaction with Gaokao examination...it is just tough and one got to study hard. If you are playful...you are out!! So your narrative is false. Those from the rural areas or minority groups are given extra points during examinations. So their entry to university is slightly easier. Students from rural or minority, if poor cannot possibly afford overseas education. So your narrative is also false. Lately, western nations from the 5 eye nations have been targeting Chinese students and making entry to universities in the west difficult. So it is easy to understand why they come over to Malaysia, where they can freely speak Chinese, have a Chinese meal and still practice their English. There is also a large Muslim Chinese from China studying in Malaysia....and one does not need too deeply to understand the similarities. They mix with large non Muslim population. Malaysia it is similar but just opposite. Bear in mind, a large portion of graduate student might have a 1st degree from home and pursue their master or PhD overseas. Your narrative is through the western lens which is highly bias.
What're we saying ? Where & how many private universities are there in Malaysia ? Tengku Abdul Raman university ? Funded by the Chinese community. Its ranking is miserable given its sparse resources. Dont think they are interested in those off-campus make-shift distance learning programmes either. A more comprehensive account would be better, like which private unis & how many such such students studying what fulltime courses. Most of the non-Malay students have to go abroad to get a proper uni education.
Do you know that the government do give funds to TAR university? Recently the government gave a waive off to Rm85million of their taxes. Special treatment behind the door.
@@ahmadyusof2480 Haha. This is the first time RM65 since its inception. A drop in the ocean. Mind u, unlike the public unis, it is multiracial. Not unlike its vernacular schools, funded primarily by the community itself, admitting more and more Malays. Now, imagine, out of 200 countries, Malaysia is one of 14 countries that believe in minority discrimination. It embarrassingly boycotts the UN ICERD against its 30% non-Muslims. LoL
The video completely ignored the international universities twinning programs with well inown western institutions. Moreover the PISA ranking ( restricted to 15 years old ) in public schools have no bearings in the private international schools and universities yet you used it as a refernce. I find this video either highly biased or lack the quality in research.
I would like to disagree on some aspects of your video. Chinese students who study in Malaysia do not go to local Malaysian universities but to affiliated internationally ranked universities which is globally recognized. Furthermore these are non- nationals and therefore cannot vote thus posing no threats to the political system of Malaysia.
Foreign fresh grads from Malaysia universities can't get working visas from Malaysia gov. Their better chance for 1st job after graduation is in neighboring Singapore.

Look at how poor their content are, they have to come here and scam a bleak Malaysian population of 32million, while a 1.4billion world economy couldn't even feed some scammers. I say, even their beggars can find much livelihood in China itself, so much so they have to capitalise on Malaysian sympathies. See, Malaysia is so rich we can afford to feed scammers and beggars which China couldn't.

They can't even understand simple English sentence and hv to use translation app all the time.. Hows that convenient..? Again, not all of them, just a few and this is totally anecdotal..
High competition in China education is the main reason. in Malaysia, it is very much looser. as lesser and lesser Malaysian enter local tertiary education. A serious drop in higher education among Malaysia, leaves more open places for foreigner to fill up. Chinese is taking up this opportunity as there is a large Chinese 华语 speaking population in Malaysia. Convenience is the main reason. Chinese speaking population in Malaysia often are better in soft skills and IT knowledge, and better foundation in academic skills - able to speak more than 2 languages. They have high aims - would target more opportunities over seas in Europe, North America and Australis. Open minded.
One thing is for sure. These China Chinese go for where freedom and less censorship are practised. Google, Facebook etc are available to them in Malaysia. But I hope their minds are opened and pick up a religion freely. Actually, once they graduate, they can settle and expand to other countries. They find they cannot achieve anything in China.
Because MY is cheap for these wealthy Chinese. Dat the main reason. Surely they will go international school which is much cheaper than in China..if there any ? Cheap is the main reason.

Its simply because its very affordable for a highly questionable education. The entire education industry in malaysia is ONLY PROFIT based. Chinese used to goto Australia but now Australia is restricting them, then Singapore education is good but very expensive only for the elite rich, and then the other budget option is Malaysia..cheaper than Singapore.
Also there are tensions between Chinese Singaporeans & the PRC Chinese. I have noticed this even while riding on Singapore's MRT. The disdain for each other is very obvious & Singapore social media also reflects this.

Surprisingly the chinese does help malays and the country in economy and modernization.

Cheers!
Hello, there's NO quota admissions for private universities la. Quota for bumiputra and Malay only applies to Public universities la.

The "private" universities are mostly " related" to their western counterparts.

Malaysia's brain drain is only due to one key factor, the strength of SG Dollar vs MY Ringgit. Brain drain will stop if both currencies are almost similar.
Not only because of higher pay. They are not given opportunities in Malaysia - employment, promotion, etc

Wow, so when after they graduated they can be the manpower for Malaysian companies if they choose so.
High unemployment rate in malaysia? Thats not accurate
On the other hand, graduates from private universities like Sunway University and UTAR went through a different path where English is more emphasised and widely spoken, these universities are also more in touch with what the job market demand.
in contrast, my friend's brother, a malaysian chinese wants to study in china instead, it went full circle
That is lying slander. Australia has had a substantial Chinese population for 150 years. The Chinese are a valued community in Australia.
