    To be fair, Malaysia's debt problem is fixable. As they have various sources of income streams to sort it out if they wish to. Let's not forget that Malaysia has some of the biggest asset management and trust companies with hundreds of billions in assets. Also they have an A grade debt rating.

    • @secrets.295

      People like to make it as if Malaysia's debt problems are so out of control when it isn't. At 60% of debt to gdp it isn't bad at all. If 60% is bad then what do you consider The US debt is, a nightmare? And Japan at 250% debt to gdp is what? Like a total catastrophe? The thing is even Anwar has been over inflating this as if it is such a disaster when it isn't. Sure things could have been a lot better, absolutely right. But it isn't a catastrophe either and its manageable. Certainly doesn't justify the cut off subsidies and all that.

      @@secrets.295 Only fools would draw a comparison between Msia's debt with Japan & the US debts. Malaysia is nowhere near the levels of economic efficiency & productivity of Japan & the US. You don't have to look very far, just take a look at Singapore will make you realize how fragile & tiny Malaysia is. Do you know that Singapore (which is known as a little red dot) is more productive than the entire Malaysia despite Malaysia's land area is 441 times larger than Singapore, and Malaysia's population is 5 times larger than Singapore? Singapore's 2023 GDP was 500 Billion USD, whereas Malaysia's GDP for the same year was only 400 Billion USD. From this comparison, you can see how inefficient and low-skilled Malaysia is. Malaysia largely depends on some "natural resources", palm oil, agriculture, and some basic manufacturing to survive. The US GDP was 27 Trillion USD for 2023, that's 67.5 times larger than that of Malaysia! Furthermore, USD is the world's reserves currency which allows the US to print tons of USD and export their inflation to the entire world. Can Malaysia do the same thing as the world's powerful country do? (obviously the answer is a big NO!). Then what's the point of comparing with the US and Japan's debts?

      Anwar has himself to blame
      He contradicts himself.
      First he said PM should not be the Finance Minister.
      First he mocked Zahid . Yet he appointed Zahid as TPM. He claimed he had no choice .
      Who are the people he was trying to mislead? Himself?
      He had a better alternative. He could have appointed Mohd Hassan . And Mohd Hassan outshines Zahid in practically all aspects.
      Mohd Hassan is highly regarded in Malay community. He is down to earth,speaks better English , widely supported by Malays transcending political lines.
      Should Anwar appoint Mohd hAssan as TPM, this govt will receive more Malay votes.
      The thing with Zahid is that vast majority of Mslays do not like him. They accept UMNO but not Zahid.
      Many in PH trying to pretend that Anwar has no choice but to appoint Zahid .
      Seriously?
      What could Zahid do? Without the post of TPM ,he most likely will be kicked out from UMNO leadership position.
      And THIRD, Rafizi is a joke.

      More than 80% of the workers in Malaysia pay no income tax since they don't earn enough to qualify. This situation can only be improved by the 1% having more opportunities to invest profitably in the economy. The problem tends to be the balance between the planned part of the economy controlled by the Government and the Free Market part which is dominated by the 1% who tend to be entrepreneurs. History has shown that with respect to the economy , Free Markets triumph over any planned system. Basically no Government can plan to create the likes of Elon Musk, Larry Page or Mark Zuckenberg. These people are disruptors who need a Free Market to prosper.

    Anwar is correct in removing subsidies IMO. But rather than overly raising taxes on the rich and taxation overall- which has a deleterious effect on GNP for minimal fiscal addition (the Latha curve?) - he must continue to work on reducing graft.
    He is also wise to raise credit domestically rather than through usurious institutions such as the IMF, the downfall of all but a few of the developing nations.
    Good presentation - thanks👍

    Even with all the new taxes, Malaysians are still not paying enough taxes. Most workers don't pay income taxes. Malaysia needs to lower the tax bracket so more people can be taxed. Spending is also too much. Malaysia not only needs to reduce subsidies but also to reduce the bloated government. Federal government employees pension is a ticking time bomb. But in the current situation, there's no way for the government to handle the bloated federal government without creating a deep state that can collapse the governing political party.

    • @oliverodell3105
      @oliverodell3105 Месяц назад

    • @NarutoUzumaki-lg6bk
      @NarutoUzumaki-lg6bk Месяц назад +2

      While I agree with you about reducing the bloated govt because there are too many inefficiencies within the federal govt agencies and perhaps too many redundant staff, I disagree with reducing the tax bracket to tax the lower income. Large corporations and local business manufacturers are already paying really low wages relative to the output they are producing and this has been one of the attractive factors of setting up businesses in Malaysia. The recent rise in foreign investment is largely due to the low wages and English language imo. Hence taxing the lower income will not tax the actual economic output of the country and if the economic output is in the form of foreign company or investment, the revenue will just mostly flow overseas untaxed.

The US’s debt is huge in MYR and huge for USD. Sudden GDP spikes are also seen in countries right before country investments start to show their returns. Anwar Ibrahim’s tenure as Prime Minister has been nothing short of a disappointment. His so-called reforms to reduce the fiscal deficit have done little to tackle Malaysia’s staggering debt, which remains one of the highest in Southeast Asia. Instead of addressing the root causes, he’s resorted to increasing taxes and cutting subsidies-moves that only add more burden to the rakyat. While he claims these measures target the wealthy, the reality is clear: they’ve done little to fix Malaysia’s low tax-to-GDP ratio, exposing weak governance. Meanwhile, household debt continues to spiral out of control, with no real solutions in sight beyond vague talk of financial literacy. Anwar’s policies lack vision, his leadership fails to inspire, and his decisions-far from helping the nation-are pushing ordinary Malaysians further into hardship. Simply put, he’s proving to be a poor leader at a critical time.

      Electronic investment leads to jobs assembling electronic parts. That is all.
      Low level skills.
      Low pay as well.
      Malaysia have such a surplus of jobs that we have 3-5 million foreign workers in Malaysia.
      The PM may be creating a future problem by taxing the rich and increasing subsidies to the poor.
      Taxing the working upper class will disincentivize them from working harder and saving more.

He cant control all the inside issue by himself. cant he? The number 47 man should step down, and pick someone that can help him keeping our other issue in check. We can see how Mahathir pick Anwar into UMNO in his first reign, and Malaysia really become Asian Tiger in those era. Even ada masa nak rampas Guthrie from British. Pick the right person please. Im with Malaysia. 🙏

      GST does help the country directly and it will boost the powerhouse economy undoubtedly. But what he’s thinking right now, GST will tax most citizens including the poor. It’s well known that Anwar's approach at this time was taking advantage of the rich to contribute to the country and letting the poor ease at this stage until the economy fixed. That is why he’s not implement GST for now, but it will in the future. Rafizi has confirmed those GST will be implemented once again but not for now. In fact just for you know, GST is still there in the office and is not being abolished by the current and past governments. It’s just the rate is being set at 0% at the moment instead of 6% in the Najib eras. Whenever they wanna bring it back, all they need just to increase the rate itself

    The debt keeps on rising because the government keeps on giving more and more free money plus unnecssary subsidies. We will save trillions of ringgit if they stop all these uncontrol spending !!! 2 biggest mistakes Malaysia did in 2018 (after election) are: 1. Changing GST to SST (Nation lose RM30 billion a year). 2.Start giving Petrol and Diesel subsidy (Nation lose RM30 billion a year). For these 2 things, Malaysia loses RM60 billion a year/ RM420 billion in 7 years.
    That is why National debt go up from RM686 Billion in 2018 to RM1.3 Trillion now (2024). Thus Ringgit went down and KLSE composite Index also went down compared to year 2018.

    you can see how wrong his work is by looking at the budget he presented. If he said that we are in debt and need to cut spending, why is his budget is the biggest ever presented in Malaysia parliament? How did his name got listed as the richest people on earth when he has never own business ever in his life? What proof does he has for claiming getting rid off corruption when the opposite can be seen on the budget? The list goes on and on and the rant will be endless if we think about it. He did everything that he accuse his opposition will do. He literally became the very evil he warn us. Clearly he was that evil all along...
