For the record. That's not the Matrix, but an Energon Matrix. A talisman derived from the original Autobot Matrix that was unknowingly bestowed to all supreme Autobot/Maximal commanders by Vector Sigma during the beast era.
Lion head notwithstanding this is a shockingly good version of this character considering its meant to be retail level. I was expecting there to be a lot of compromises because Leo Prime is an insane design, that masterpieces transformation gave me nightmares. But this one is just complex enough to look ok. The fact the biggest complaint is the aesthetics of the head and not it being a kibble nightmare makes me feel safe buying this when I can. Its just good to see that this guy has enough respect to stand on North American shelves with everyone else now and doesn't have to be a niche "other guy" anymore.
Pretty cool figure overall. The lion mode face is pretty much the weakest part for me as well, but I do agree a little paint could go a long way. Some pupils, a little shading around the eyes and maybe some lines to indicate a scowl would quickly make him look more determined or ferocious and less like a poor, shell shocked pussycat. That and maybe some tooth pieces to make his fangs more pointy.

That being said, if the recent leaks are true and Lio Convoy here will be retooled into Thundertron it'd be cool if he was a Netflix Bumblebee style reshell with all-new, more roboti looking lion parts.

I think the biggest negative to the face is NOT the eyes, but instead the muzzle length. If the face is more compact I feel it would work leagues better, less empty space.
Y’know… I was actually thinking of sitting this guy out, but I’m now glad about seeing that transformation! Lion head still looks pretty sad but Leo Prime has a lot of great stuff going for him! That transformation is complex and well thought out and I didn’t see anything boring about this guy at all! Thanks for showing this one!

I'm really impressed at this. For a Voyager it's really quite good. That lion mode face definitely needs paint. I'm looking forward to seeing what some customizers do with those eyes to fix him up a bit, but I'll get this for sure. I love Lio Convoy and this one is right up my ally.

Despite his lion face 🦁 not really ferocious looking for my expectations 😐, however i still like this figure ☺️ because it is so long time i hoping to get Japanese Maximal like Leo Convoy in Transformers mainline, so i okay with that 😉. I love this Evo-gimmick and other gimmick on Leo Convoy 😁. Hopefully we can see more Japanese Transformers Beasts War in near future, especially Deathsaurus 😊. Great video, PrimevsPrime 🤗.

I love how Hasbro have really pushed to make the Legacy figures the best they could be, Tarn being an example. Lio Convoy/Leo Prime is a good looking voyager, he even might be better looking than the Masterpiece one?! Overall he’s a cool looking figure in both robot and lion modes and can’t wait to get him soon, also hope for more BW figures down the road very soon!

I just picked this guy up this weekend with a studio series rumble and I absolutely love everything done with this figure aside from the ankles, (could really have used an ankle tilt) despite usually hating beast formers, but I adore the sculpting and weapon storage
I think despite the visual quarks, I still love this thing. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pick it up when it comes out along with Tarn and maybe even Hot Shot

curious question, do you have or have seen metalhawk, and if so, is the head a mix of pretender shell and inner robot like the other pretenders or is it more the innerbot?
Honestly I kinda wish the shoulder pads could come off. They interfere too much with articulation, when making the head into a removable shield couldve worked a lot better.

Kiki fix loose joints should work on the knees. I've got an Mp10 Hasbro version with super loose ankles. If Kiki can fix that, Kiki fixes everything else :p

The Masterpiece version was intended to be anime-accurate as possible (which is why Lio Convoy in the Masterpiece line looked the way he was).

Like this figure. The transformation is miles above Optimus Primal from Kingdom. But lion-mode really looks like someone's been hitting the catnip.
