  • It has warmed up in the tunnel , the sun is shining and the thaw has started. Who knows I might get some bricks moved today and the chance to spread the soil from the frozen potato pots. Hopefully ill get the water tank supports moved on today. Mrs K has a Swede order in so I am going to pull a few and leave space tp pile up the last few barrows of compost. Allotment pals help me to get the tanks in place and I can really start moving on in the utility area. I get momentum and move the barrels out of the next working area.
UK Allotments are the ideal place to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. My allotment is a no dig allotment and I share how to grow vegetables and how to prepare a no dig garden. If you are growing in a backyard garden or homestead and you want some tips on how to grow vegetables I hope my channel has something to offer. Allotment ideas are always worth sharing and I am happy to share my gardening ideas and failures so that we can all learn to grow vegetables together. I also learn on the allotment nearly every time I am there and learning how to grow in a Polytunnel or greenhouse can be a fun an exciting experience too. If you are one of the many allotment beginners or thousands of people growing in your garden for the first time then join me growing on Allotments For Fun and food and get some allotment ideas.

Hi Malcolm, why don’t you just put a metal plate or piece of wood over the hole in your wheelbarrow and just use gutter bolts to fix it down, there is also some really strong adhesive pvc tape that gardeners use to repair there polytunnels !!! Just a thought, as it seems a shame to throw the barrow away 😀 stay safe David 👍👍

I've got a good old Hammerlin wheelbarrow on my plot. I patched up two holes with car body filler about 5 years ago, I made a right pigs ear of it but it's still doing the job. Try that. About a fiver or so is better than the price of a new wheelbarrow these days!
Good to see new beginnings. Thanks

Quite the job you had with those water saving totes, but with helping hands anything is always possible. Nice to see you used the long board for leverage to help lift the tote to get the brick underneath, saving your back in the process. As we are only given one strong back it must last a lifetime. That's what my grandfather taught me growing up.

I am loving all that storage space under the water tanks!!! I think my pot collection would be going there. They’re cluttering up my garage while it’s cold or freezing, but as soon as it warms up they roll back outdoors to a messy corner here, out of the way 😊

Hi Malcolm, Your and my barrow are suffering with the same problem. Holes in the corners even though I store it up right. Suspect it's metal stress created when the barrow was pressed. pH of composts and soil don't help when in contact with the metal. Maybe hooking them up to sacrifice anade when not in use might slow down the rot. There you go, something for you to ponder over when you have nothing else to do on the plot! Regards, Peter

I can appreciate the excitement about your IBC tanks they look superb. Will you cover them over with a tarpaulin to block out the light and to stop algae forming?
The days are getting longer and soon the seed sowing frenzy will begin

My Father took his wheelbarrow and put a sheet of metal in the bed of it, screwed it down and got a few more years out of it. Surely you have a scrap piece of metal somewhere ? Or even buying a small amount would be cheaper than buying a new wheelbarrow. lol Save that money to go towards your new shed. Great video !

Looking at your water tanks, makes me think I really need to up my water collection game for my veg garden. I am a long way from our outside tap and if dry hot summers are what us veg gardeners have to look forward to, then more water collection is essential. Like you I am contemplating what to have and where to put it. I currently have two water barrels and that was so not enough last summer. I was fortunate that my area did not have a hosepipe ban but I was mindful of not taking advantage of that and this winter has seen a goodly amount of rainfall so far that I need to collect and quickly as the threat of a dry spring is always a possibility in the South East of England. Anyway you are doing great with your Malcolm. 😃👍
