A personal flaw that would ruin my judgement and analysis of anything in the future. Making many problems an impossibility to me. And if I ever wanted to pursue those things, I would be in a damn lot of trouble approaching it. That is an insecurity I dread. But glad I'm aware of it.
Still love that he teleported into Nolan’s house to prove that he could see in the dark. Making Nolan saying he couldn’t see the “attacker” because the power was cut a lie. Man nearly got his neck crushed to call his bluff

He really does show how overpowered teleportation can be in the right hands. I mean imagine lasting as long as he did, then escaping, when Omni Man wants to kill you.

For real though yeah, Super Speed and Teleportation are two of the most overlooked and overpowered abilities in all of fiction, ESPECIALLY teleportation when in the hands of someone who understands to keep their distance from someone who could rip their body in half with a pinky finger.
"its why I hate me too" honestly thats the best part of his depiction in this series. he isnt some jar head that only cares about the results. he actually cares and is a good person, but knows letting that get in the way would mean more people die. too many charactes of this type just dont have that humanity in them. I know he isnt like this in the comics so im so glad for the change.

i wouldn't even call him evil tbh, he may be cold but he's simply good at his job. and in order to do that he has to be an asshole some of the time (or most of the time) and he very much acknowledges that. that alone makes him a pretty good guy in my eyes

I like that when Debbie said she hates Cecil he didn't rebuke saying something like "This is how we get results" or try to excuse himself. He's not in denial, he knows what he does is shitty, he just also knows he has to live with being a shitty person for the greater good. He hates it too.
It's really refreshing to see a government related character who's just a guy trying to make the best of a bad situation, and not some gleefully evil prick in a suit. It's a good allegory for soldiers, particularly officers, hands being forced by circumstances to do things even they don't agree with for what they believe is the greater good 0:18

Eh. You really can't save them all. When giant armored space walruses start floating through a portal that you had no power to stop from opening, you have to expect there'll be lots of casualties, and having the heroes flog themselves relentlessly after failing to score a perfect run on a massive battle in the middle of NYC where it's just a handful of them against an invading space army is just...you can do that if you want, but it wouldn't gel with the tone they were setting, and no normal person would do that. Invincible takes a much more serious tone overall (I guess that's an Image Comics thing?), especially when compared to Joss Whedon. I'm fine with superhero movies taking stuff seriously, but more important than that to me is tonal consistency.
I love Cecil's character. All convention with that character design points to him being a backstabbing ass but he's a guy whose job has him constantly carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and has to make constant tough choices but even then he turned out to be just a really great dude.
Cecil's voice actor is impeccable. Truly. I mean, there are a lot of amazing voice actors out there, and in this show. People who just fit the character they're voicing and do their roles justice. But the guy who does Cecil's voice is damn near flawless.

Reverse Cecil Lite. The guy lost most of his skin in a gas attack. That scar is just the little bit of skin doctors could save. The rest was medically regenerated.

Is Cecil considered to be "Machiavellian"? I always get confused about what that term means. He does very morally grey things (eg literally sent fighter pilots to their deaths), but it's all in service of serving a greater good and minimising death. I'm sure there are parallels with roles like this in real life, but I can't even imagine the psychology of someone willing to do shit like this for the greater good.
I personally wouldn’t. In most spheres of philosophy, iirc, Machiavellianism usually serves in self-interest, and in many cases, the actions don’t ethically justify the means. In this case and iteration of Cecil, his top priority is _protecting lives,_ or at least minimizing casualties to the best of his ability given the situation. Given the stakes at hand with Omniman (and likewise, the rest of his species) being a threat to the earth, his actions are utilitarian but while morally ambiguous, are warranted for the situation at hand. Keep in mind, he’s based on Nick Fury. And characters like this (examples like Erwin Smith from Attack on Titan or some iterations of Batman and Amanda Waller) do have hearts and will do the right thing above all else, but if the situation calls for it, which many times it does, they’re the ones who have to make the hard decisions.
He's a utilitarian. His goal is the greatest good for the greatest number. Maximize happiness. Minimize suffering. That's what the trolley problem is about.
Cecil is a real OG, he sees right through Nolan's bullshit and he's willing to call his bluff to his face. He's like Amanda Waller but actually a good person

The thing I like about Cecil is that he feels _disgusted_ by the ways he has to dirty his hands to get things done. Even when he tells people that the ends justify the means, you can tell that he HATES the means. He's not some Amanda Waller.
I've seen a lot of people comparing Cecil to BATMAN but hes not that. Cecil is an average man. An old man with a hell of a lot of experience and unbreakable conviction. What makes him a great character from the little we've seen so far is he does his job knowing what he had to become for the greater good without ever losing that sense of self. He hates himself because he had to act the part of the bad guy while always having the heart of a good guy. He dedicated himself completely to saving people knowing full well that every time, he will fail. What's a failure if the war is won? All the lives it cost that never needed to be spent. His spirit doesnt break because he knows the greater good means saving everyone else while never forgetting even the smallest life that was lost. That scene when he attacked and confronted omni man shows how human and vulnerable he is. He still panics hard in the face of death he should have NEVER survived and he pulls himself together because letting himself be too human would cost him his life and then everyone elses. His panting and admission of nolan's attacks putting his balls in his throat were really fucking badass but damn it if a weak, 1 hp 1atk character didnt look so fucking awesome. He cant do anything and hes not the god he faced right in the god damn eyes but what he chose to do is fight god as a man. That's earned some cold hard respect from me. Hes so aware and his mind is so damn sharp and resourceful. I feel like his will makes him the most invincible in the show so far. He could crack like an egg and that still wouldnt keep him down.
If they did a live action invincible show or movie (which probably wouldn’t hold a candle to this show) I can only imagine one guy playing Cecil and that’s Julian richings check him out as death in supernatural hes got the look just slap some prosthetic makeup on his lips and it could work plus his mannerisms as death are very similar to Cecil

He does very morally grey things (eg literally sent fighter pilots to their deaths), but it's all in service of serving a greater good and minimising death. I'm sure there are parallels with roles like this in real life, but I can't even imagine the psychology of someone willing to do shit like this for the greater good.
I personally wouldn’t. In most spheres of philosophy, iirc, Machiavellianism usually serves in self-interest, and in many cases, the actions don’t ethically justify the means.
In this case and iteration of Cecil, his top priority is _protecting lives,_ or at least minimizing casualties to the best of his ability given the situation. Given the stakes at hand with Omniman (and likewise, the rest of his species) being a threat to the earth, his actions are utilitarian but while morally ambiguous, are warranted for the situation at hand. Keep in mind, he’s based on Nick Fury. And characters like this (examples like Erwin Smith from Attack on Titan or some iterations of Batman and Amanda Waller) do have hearts and will do the right thing above all else, but if the situation calls for it, which many times it does, they’re the ones who have to make the hard decisions.
He's a utilitarian. His goal is the greatest good for the greatest number. Maximize happiness. Minimize suffering. That's what the trolley problem is about.

I've seen a lot of people comparing Cecil to BATMAN but hes not that.
Cecil is an average man. An old man with a hell of a lot of experience and unbreakable conviction.
What makes him a great character from the little we've seen so far is he does his job knowing what he had to become for the greater good without ever losing that sense of self.
He hates himself because he had to act the part of the bad guy while always having the heart of a good guy. He dedicated himself completely to saving people knowing full well that every time, he will fail.
What's a failure if the war is won? All the lives it cost that never needed to be spent. His spirit doesnt break because he knows the greater good means saving everyone else while never forgetting even the smallest life that was lost.
That scene when he attacked and confronted omni man shows how human and vulnerable he is. He still panics hard in the face of death he should have NEVER survived and he pulls himself together because letting himself be too human would cost him his life and then everyone elses. His panting and admission of nolan's attacks putting his balls in his throat were really fucking badass but damn it if a weak, 1 hp 1atk character didnt look so fucking awesome.
He cant do anything and hes not the god he faced right in the god damn eyes but what he chose to do is fight god as a man. That's earned some cold hard respect from me.
Hes so aware and his mind is so damn sharp and resourceful. I feel like his will makes him the most invincible in the show so far. He could crack like an egg and that still wouldnt keep him down.
