    Just a hint here...I like to skip one dent in the reed, i.e., to have one empty dent between the actual warp threads and the floating selvedge. It helps keep the amount of draw-in more even.

    I feel like I should not have destashed 3/4 of my mom's yardstick collection when I moved her floom loom to my home. Though I have not yet seen how you use all of them... Maybe you just collect them on your travels?

    • @ActonCreative

      Ooooh, I love me some yardsticks! I use them in between the rotations of the warp yarn so it all winds on evenly.

      @@ActonCreative I wish I could ask my mom about that. I remember her using the corrugated cardboard rolls, which I did pack and move with the loom.

    Fantastic! Can I use this on just a plain weave? Allison

    • @ActonCreative
      @ActonCreative  2 года назад

      Allison, you won't need floating selvedges with plain weave. But it's very helpful with twills, overshot, etc. The more weaving patterns you try, the better you'll be able to anticipate when floating selvedges will be an asset! You've got this!

    Thank you, very clear. How would this work with a RHL?

    • @ActonCreative
      @ActonCreative  Год назад

      Hi Suzanne! Because of the way you create a twill on a rigid heddle loom, you can simply hand-manipulate the weft so it always travels to the edge - meaning you don't need them. But to be safe, I would check with a rigid heddle expert, which I'm not. Great question, though! Thank you!!

    Hi, would have love to see the other side how it looks. I did the same tecnic but my thread seems too loose. I was wondering if it was because my bobines of thread were nof heavy enough? Thank you for your videos that I look one after the other. Have a great day 🌻

    • @ActonCreative
      @ActonCreative  2 года назад +1

      Hi Lynda! Thank you so much!! If you find that your floating selvedges don't "float", you can always weight them down. An easy method is to put a few coins in a pill bottle, loosely attach it to a floating selvedge, and hang it off the back of your loom.
      Something else to watch for is the heddles. If they smash up against the floating selvedge, they could cause the yarn not to float like it should.
      Just a few thoughts! I hope it helps!

    So simple! We could go the other way round too (over under instead of over under), right? As long as it's consistent.

    What if I already dressed the loom and didn’t use floating selvedges? Is it imperative that I use them?

    • @ActonCreative
      @ActonCreative  4 месяца назад

      Hi! With some weaving patterns you won't need to worry about floating selvedges. But as you start weaving, if you find that your weft yarn doesn't always go to the edge of your fabric, you can easily add floating selvedges after the fact - no problem!
