I am an older man and have always love Toyota small trucks. I am not disappointed in this one.
The 3rd gen tacoma transmission and 3.5 litre engine is built for long term use. The gear shifting in cruise you're complaining about goes away and will not revv on climbs after it's broken in. Around 45k miles, i stopped noticing my 18 TRDOR stopped doing it and would stay in the same gear on climbs.
Im 6'4" and I have no comfort issues driving my '22 Tacoma. I drive mostly on the highway to commute and I get over 20 mpg consistently. The downshifting that occurs in CC is only if youre driving uphill in my experience. I have a TRD Sport so I will say that with the hood scoop my visibility isnt great and im sure if i were shorter than it might be a problem. Other than that I really dont have many complaints about the truck at all.
Glad I found some other tall guys. I’m interested in a Tacoma and I’m 6’4. That was my first concern, if it would be comfortable enough while driving a daily commute.
@@Jacob1997__ I daily mine 20 minutes to and 20 minutes from work every day. Also took it on a 10 hour one way road trip once and I was fine. Plenty of legroom for the driver, not so much for the passengers in the back seats though.
My gas mileage is great if I'm doing 40-55 mph but terrible on the highway at 70--same on my 05, 21, and now 22. To be honest, the only thing that seems to be an improvement from the 05 to the 21 and 22 is the technology/infotainment. I had the 05 13 years and had 224k when I traded it. Still was running strong.
I have an 03 SR5 8cyl 4Runner and a 2020 4Runner and I agree 100%. 2 less cylinders in the 2020 and what feels like less towing power but almost identical gas mileage. The lesson I took away is that you don't buy Toyota for the gas mileage or the latest tech... at least that's what I tell myself
Hey I have an 08 with 250k miles and I’ve been considering getting a newer one. I researched the 2019 is the most reliable and has the best ratings for the newer years. Would you recommend any of the new ones or a different brand of truck
@@joshharris7902 I would have 250k on my 05 if I had kept it. I wish I had just upgraded the stuff I wanted but if I did that and ended up trading it would be a waste of money. If I knew them what I know now, I would have kept it and made upgrades. The frame was only 6 years old.
I average around 22 mpg on my '17 OR, so it's not too bad for me. Also, I'm short lol so the smaller cabin isn't a problem for me either. I still don't like how my knees are too close to the steering wheel no matter how I have my seat, but it wasn't hard to get used to. Overall, I love my Tacoma!
A few counters to what he was saying. 1 if you drive sensible your going to get better MPG from the 6 if you want to get 20 or better then ditch the 4wd and get the 2wd like I did. Next the rear seats are perfectly adequate if your just hauling a pair of friends adjusting the fronts will fix the leg room issue. As to towing and hauling ITS NOT A FULL SIZE TRUCK therefore your performance will not match said full sized truck. Chances are if you bought a Tacoma you didn’t need a full size truck anyway. The cabin height is just fine in fact I can’t stand the step packages they offer ( which is why mine was purchased without it) and I fit in it just fine despite my thighs being the diameter of small trees. The drivers seat is fully adjustable so you can find a good fit. Finally took mine on a 3 hour road trip and was perfectly comfortable. The truck is perfectly fine for its intended job
If your getting poor gas mileage try doing 65 on the fwy and not revving it in city, Toyota (nor ANY manufactures) MPG ratings isn’t based on racing around. All vehicles get poor gas mileage if your racing around. I easily get a combined 21 mpg. Imo that’s great. Just don’t worry about the dummies tailgating you non stop lol
Recently moved from LA to Virginia. got 29-32mpg going through Arizona and New Mexico going 75-80. When I hit the east coast it went down to 25-27 because of the mountains. It’s all about how you drive it
@@TheBBQ5 are you talking about a v6 engine or 4 cylinder? I have never heard of a v6 Tacoma get 29-32 mpg. please tell me the secret i need to know so i can save some gas. i have a 2018 TRD Off Road 4x4 and i only get 18-19 mpg.
2021 off road I get 17 mpg during the last 12,000 miles. That’s rural highways some interstate and town. I keep track of every tank However I’m going to stop since I know what it gets now. 17mpg average over 12,000.
First off it’s Toyota, not Tea-yota. All the reasons you claim are reasons to not buy this truck are the exact reasons I did. You should have just said, if you’re over six feet tall, this might not be the truck for you. I drove mine off the lot in Seattle and drove it to Skagway, Ak without any of the issues you mentioned. Cruise control worked perfectly. It slowed down and sped up on its own as it was designed to do without incident.
All valid points. I actually hate using the cruise control due to the high revving. Get better gas mpg by just driving without cruise control on long trips
I have a 2022 4x4 access cab SR5 4 cylinder Tacoma and I average 22-25mpg. Some trips I’ll literally get 28mpgs. I don’t have any lifts, tire mods, any added weight etc. If I do mods it’ll all be esthetic and nothing detrimental that’ll require a retune, gear, lifts, and so on. Trust me I love an overland build as much as the next guy… but I have to be practical. Nice Tacoma! 🤙🏼
@@DFPFTW I just wish they still had the 2.7 4x4 with the "standard " tranny option !! Kind of odd to me , that the Taco engine that would be the best for the 5 Spd . They do not offer ?!?
I’m single and hate my ‘17 Tacoma. I’m 6’ 3” and it’s a truck for a tiny person. It has zero power and really bad mpg. It’s uncomfortable and the worst manual transmission on any vehicle that I’ve driven. I’ve owned 7 manuals in my life.
Like my first Toyota, a 1991 Camry. I hated that car from day one and the damn thing just wouldn't die. At 23 years 262,000 miles, I finally sold it. with my 17 Tacoma, I average 21 mpg summer and 18 under freezing. It's a good thing my Taco meets my needs because its going to outlive me.
I have 9300 miles on my 22 OR, averaging about 21.3 mpg here in tn. And yes it is a 4wd. It's probably driving habits. The new ones transmissions learn how you drive so that will affect your mpg.
I have a 2020 taco pro manual and its an amazing mid size truck very fun. I get 22 city and 25 on highway. it tows just fine for a 1 axel trailers , therefore I have 2500 duramax for towing big toys.

But now with my 2022 i average about 20 in the city and about 25 on the freeway but i do drive slower then i use to since my gas use to be paid for 😂😂
I have a '21 trd sport with a 3" lift and 33x12.5 mt tires and my mileage is horrible.. I'm getting like 14-15 mpg and I have to fill up all the time! Still tho I love the aggressive look of the Tacoma especially with wide wheels and tires so I haven't considered trading it.
I ordered a double cab Lb. It’s only the wife, the dog, and me. (Currently have an SC f-150) It’s one of two midsize trucks that have a larger bed option, the frontier didn’t seem to be as good long term.
I was surprised the mileage was about 18 mpg...that is pretty low for a mid-sized pickup. For tall people, Toyota Tacoma front leg room is worst in class....
This is the same problem for I regret having bought my tacoma TRD sport. I like the consumption of gas and how it looks but the interior space is very small. For a family of 5 it is very small.for trips far away is very uncomfortable 😢
that cruise control isn’t my favorite, it slows you down when someone gets in front of you which is fine because you don’t want to hit them but once that person leaves, it floors your truck to return to you speed. really annoying
@@yername31 YES !! Just push the button that you use to turn OFF & ON the cruise . Keep puching it in until the SCREEN shows up saying you are not in that DCC . Keep holding in the off / on button until the screen changes . You DO have to do it each time though .
That Frontier is no joke. I had a '10 LE crew, long bed that I worked out of for a few years. The new redesign is a huge improvement. Maybe a big turning radius, but much more comfortable seating than a Taco. I've heard great reviews for that engine/trans combo.
I went from a ram 1500 to a Tacoma and the ONLY thing I miss about the Ram is the space . Other than that, the Tacoma feels more comfortable when driving as well as feels like it performs better. I may want to get a bigger truck in the future but for now the Tacoma is such a nice truck.
I bought a 21 Tacoma TRD O/R. The KD Max Pro tune helped a little bit, meaning I don't feel the need to get rid of the truck asap, but I'm never buying another Toyota again. Get your sht together Toyota. Do Better.
I posted in your previous video about replacing my 2004 Tundra Double Cab LTD with the 2023 Tacoma SR 2.7L, 4 cylinder, Access Cab, 6' bed 4×4. I just hope that it still has the cast-iron engine block. I can't seem to get an answer yet. I'll know in a few days when it arrived from Vera Cruz, MX.
I really thought the taco was the right truck for me but being 6'1 I was having the same problem with my knees almost hitting the steering wheel and the bottom seat cushion being too short. Currently looking for a Tundra
If that's your only negatives. I'll take it. Like you said. It's a midsized truck. No need for vents in the back bc of the smaller cabin. Bigger families need a tundra.
Had a 2000 Tacoma TRD Off-Road access cab with a five speed manual for 21 years. I'm 6 foot 1 inch and 215 lbs and fit perfectly in the old model. I went to get a new 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro and literlaly hit my head on the A-pillar because they lowered the roof on that truck. I was really surprised by how small the truck felt even though it was clearly bigger. I loved the six speed manual but wasn't impressed with the truck. I enjoyed the 2000 I had much better. So, the seller recommend I try a TRD Pro Tundra. Literally as I got into that truck and felt it's size and started it up and felt and heard the sound of that 5.7L V8....I knew my days as a Tacoma owner were over, and my days in this dual exhaust Tundra were just beginning. Best part is the power and the size and the Fox Shox make it the most comfortable truck I've ever owned. Great video! Time to upgrade my friend.
As a 6'1" man myself, I fully agree with your opinion on visibility while sitting in the driver seat. Even coming from a mustang GT, It felt like the windshield was super short(height). Still love my taco though lol.
I really wanted to get a Tacoma a few years ago when I was in the market for my first truck. I built one online that I loved, found a dealer with it, went in with financing, took it for a test drive and didn't even make it out of the parking lot. I'm 6'3" and 210lb, I could tell there's no way in hell I'd be able to take a long trip in it. Really nice truck, but definitely not built for tall people.
I’m 6’3 225 and absolutely love my Tacoma. I’ve never had an issue with it feeling too small. I can even ride in the back comfortably. Maybe it’ll wear on you.
I was gonna buy a v4 2nd and save myself 7 to 8 k, when I saw this video of yours and a few other videos related to this topic on yet , went ahead and bought a sr5 v6 4wd, and love it. Thx 2 u and other y- tubers for the advise!
My 2021 Toy Tacoma V6 continues to jump (or lurches) forward without reason. I thought it was just my vehicle; however, I had a friend who had the same vehicle with same issues so he traded it and returned to Ford. When I took it back to the dealer they said that was common. I use to really like Toyota but in the last few years they have not improved to the point I expected. I since purchased a Honda and have discovered much more bang for the buck.
I love mine but agree with the shifting on cruise. My 2nd Gen I used to have never had that problem. I wished they would have kept that engine and gearing
Quick note, any truck that makes better gas mileage than the Tacoma is inevitably going to have to be smaller and/or less powerful, so it's really a matter of deciding which is more important to you.
I get very annoyed that the engine revs too much on the highway with medium hills. This happened with both my 21 and now my 22 although it was more on the 21.
Frontier beats the Tacoma in every important head to head. You name it. Yes including reliability, those C-channel frames in the Tacoma rust and rot, unlike the Frontiers fully boxed frame, which is nuke proof. -Frontier 310HP > Tacoma 278HP -Frontier Torque 281 lb-ft >Tacoma 265 lb ft -Frontier Full Boxed Frame >Tacoma C-Channel Frame -Frontier Disc Brakes > Tacoma Drum Brakes Frontier has a premium interior, ride, transmission, seating, head room, materials/fit & finish, more safety features, better crash test, spray-in bed liner, the list goes on and on…not to mention styling, especially in the Pro-4X.
If you want better gas mileage and better driving truck. Turn off traction control with ECT on. A different response with your auto diff lock on as a bonus.
I find after 80 km per hour better to slide in sport for 5 and 6. If not it stays in 4 well over 100/55mileper hour. Better way to control fuel economy. Should drive with mileage displayed to learn the pedal response Vs fuel economy
Person I would even buy one of them I don't like the way they look but I loved I don't like I don't love any vehicle at all but I do like the p not all not all of them I do like the 2002 or got to be a regular cab 2 wheel drive do that I don't like about it is the 2.4 motor that come with it should come with the 2.7 like the prerunner the PreRunner stick shift 2003 is hard to find very hard to find with the regular cab so that's why I got the regular 5-speed 2,700 lb Tacoma lightweight yeah I don't want to do anything it'll put anything in the bed it's just a good driving vehicle that's why this s*** just blows people beat them up and use and abuse the 2-wheel drive regular cabs. Across 11 Grand brand-new okay I just bought one 5,500 bucks 150 on it it's not beat up at all with never use the truck better than anything on the road today so I was on concern so and don't get good gas miles it gets less than that s*** it only gets like 15 around town maybe 23 on the highway but you got something that will last and Outlast any f****** garbage you can think of you in the new to call Ms. Last
Owned a Tacoma with 297K miles and maintenance by dealer. Ran great until rust destroyed it. Toyota would not include me in the lawsuit. Purchased Nissan.
I have owed a 2014 Nissan frontier, and now I have a 2023 Tacoma. the frontier is honestly better than the Tacoma, it doesn't have the hunting transmission, its faster, tows better and cheaper. I will say the Tacoma does have a nicer quiet ride as my frontier had over 130k on it and wasn't brand new.
I went from a 2007 sport right into a 2018 pro brandy new no miles on it. I still have it and won’t ever buy another truck outside a tacoma trd pro. I have loved it since day one and actually watched it for a while before it was even released. Never happier.
Reality is on the short leg room space in the back can gain more room for the passengers in the back by the driver seat & front passenger seat sliding them up three or more notchesses which will make much more room for back passengers & not bad for the driver or front passenger by doing so they yet have enough room as well, I had also boosted driver seat & front passenger seat up two inches more that makes it comfortable for me as well even giving more room to back passengers on top of sliding front seats forward it works out well for everyone..
I noticed the size after buying it. I think I won't have issues with my parents when they come to visit and we go on a road trip, they are both short.😂
Interestingly, I have a FULL size Subaru ASCENT. If I travel on the highway, I'm getting 28 mpg. In the city, a low 15 mpg. It's odd that this Toyota has such a low mpg.
I have a 2016 RWD Limited edition with 46K miles, and he makes some really good points, but would I trade it in for another make? HELL NO! Give Toyota some more time, they will ultimately fix all the setbacks he mentioned.
Gas mileage: I get 17mpg in the winter, with using the remote starter on a regular basis. I have a Bed Rug, bed mat, and a cap on the bed. So I've added some weight to it. I get 19-22mpg in the spring, summer, fall. There isn't a lot of leg room in the back, but if everyone is 5'8" or under, it is very comfortable.
For those of you thinking about buying Tacoma or have not driven one, all you heard is of other people be telling you how good it is. well, I highly recommend you not to buy it. reason 1, they only give you a warranty of 30,000 miles or 3 years that's all. First, if their truck really that good or last as long as they said it would, then why only give you 30,000 miles or 3 years warranty? I bought my first 2018 Tacoma, at the end of 2019, after nearly 2 years the paint at the roof top and at the hood were start peeling off. after 3 years later, most of the paints were all gone from the front hood and the roof top. I mean, seriously, this truck only 3 years old and most of the paints are all gone? The Toyota financial service refused to do the painting for me because I have driven 32,000 miles on it? I was soooo pissed off. f..k Toyota i said! I hope yall take my advice and don't buy toyota. P.s, the truck is very slow and it struggle a lot just with only me in it.
my interior is falling apart with rattles all over at 43,000 miles. Suspension sounds horrible as well. I drive a lot for a commute (this occurred after buying the truck and selling due to need for gas savings). BUT the passenger seat rattled from the day I bought it, the wheel caps on the trd sport constantly break and techs at the dealer ruin them during tire rotation. No major issue's, and my needs have changed but yea... in my opinion this doesn't live up to the hype (compared to similar hype for 4runners, my wife's limited is lightyears ahead in build quality to the Tacoma I'm offloading). I can honestly say this truck is so insanely overrated. Its 4wd and truck bed yes are great, but if you're using it for anything other then truck stuff or off-roading look elsewhere.
Not one of these are valid reasons for ME to not buy a Tacoma . I’m only 5’9” short legs and there’s plenty of leg and head room for me . I’m NEVER hauling anyone in the back seats , it’s just for putting hunting/fishing/camping gear and a few small tools and accessories. I’m NEVER towing anything… period … and even if I were going to tow something, it wouldn’t be anything more than a small trailer for an ATV/Dirt bike/snowmobile or utility trailer with a small garden tractor to take them in for service or something like that. Maybe a small load of firewood in the back now and then . The gas mileage is subjective to how you drive , where you drive ( off road , mountains, hills , city etc… and they make tuners that will greatly enhance your mileage and performance) The Tacoma isn’t for everyone, but it checks all the boxes for me and MY needs . They’re an over built , rugged , dependable practical and fun truck and when you ever go to sell it , you’ll be more than happy with the resale value . Right now there are so many used Ford , Chevy and Dodge trucks sitting all over the car lots , they’re EVERYWHERE ! But I could only find ONE used Tacoma ( 2016 SR5 extra cab 4WD) it has 116,000 miles on it , bare bones basic truck with nothing on it and it just sold for $27,500 ! Well you can buy a brand new 2022 SR5 4WD extra cab that actually has a few options and they list for $34,000 . So just think about that for a minute. The truck depreciation was less than $1,000 a year !
My gripe about my 3rd gen Taco is, what's the purpose of this new design? So it has decent off road performance and the reliability you'd expect from Toyota. But other than that, it's no longer the light utility truck that I remember from before. It's dimensions are not much smaller than a full size beast of a truck. Not much lighter either. Gas mileage used to be a high point of the older ones. I was easily getting 25-30 plus on my 99', but a 3rd gen will only get about 16-18 unless you drive like an old fart. And that's about what you'd get out of a full sized truck. Towing capacity is very limited and the bed is very small. So is there anything this thing can do well?
I had a 1st gen tacoma TRD offroad and never saw better than 20 mpg hwy. I now have a 3rd gen trd offroad doublecab and get 21 mpg hwy and it weighs nearly 1000 lbs more than my first gen. That's pretty significant considering all the safety equipment and new tech and gear and still get better than the old truck that weighed nothing
Off roading and to some looking good (design language). However, the next gen will likely fix many things with the 2.4 turbo hybrid. And the TNGA-F platform should make things roomier inside. I don't know who made the decision to put the 3.5 car engine and the horrible 6 speed akison transmission into the third gen. All I know is they were wrong. But the reason is obvious. To satisfy the EPA. Probably a bit better MPG's then the older 4 liter. They probably get environmental credits for that. Just like everyone is going to DI motors. To reduce emissions and make the EPA happy. Or like GM's terrible AFM (active fuel managment) that turn off cylinders. IMO a really bad idea and has caused issues in the past with lifters etc.. But it makes the EPA happy :)
I'm I the only one... but my 2019 Tacoma has a loud squeaky front end noise coming from the left side of my truck. I took it to the dealership when it was under warranty they didnt do anything about the noise. It's still occurring everyday!! Please help!!!
I have the Gen 3, and my gf is in the front, and our kid has lots of room in the back. But for a group of adults, the Trundra would be a better option.
The Tacoma and 4 runner have similar design motors there torque and power is in the upper revs .. .. really not truck motors but reliable.. hopefully they fix this in the 2024 2025 models
*Things I dont like:* -I have to choose between plugging in my phone to use it's GPS and my mp3 player; add a second USB port. -Switch the steering wheel's volume/channel selection. Volume should always be up/down. -The emergency flasher button needs to be red in color and in the center of dash. Every time I try to use it, I turn on the defroster instead, that I still have yet to confirm it even does anything.
These Tacoma reviews remind me of when i put different wheels and tires on my first car a 1951 Ford and my Dad looked at me and said(So you think you know more than the Ford engineers) he was right , the ford was alot worse with them...

Oh wow didn't know that. Mines was a lease for 2 years. I didnt put that much mileage on mine
Mine has done it it’s entire life. 275k miles…. it’s broke in.
I’m 6’5” and have zero issues with comfort. I have a ‘22 sr5 and love it.
Glad I found some other tall guys. I’m interested in a Tacoma and I’m 6’4. That was my first concern, if it would be comfortable enough while driving a daily commute.
Maybe more concerns on the 2nd generations possibly
@@Jacob1997__ I daily mine 20 minutes to and 20 minutes from work every day. Also took it on a 10 hour one way road trip once and I was fine. Plenty of legroom for the driver, not so much for the passengers in the back seats though.
How much you pay for yours

@@Slking507 lol either that, or drives in a lot of stop & go traffic. I'm about 30 mins away from work and hit almost no traffic on my way in
A few counters to what he was saying.

Yeah, if you don't race to get get up to speed and only use the gas pedal to just maintain the speed limit, you're MPG will be better.
2021 off road I get 17 mpg during the last 12,000 miles. That’s rural highways some interstate and town. I keep track of every tank However I’m going to stop since I know what it gets now. 17mpg average over 12,000.
Shit fucking advise. Just accusing of bad driving techniques isnt doing anything for my mpg.
It slowed down and sped up on its own as it was designed to do without incident.
nice
All valid points. I actually hate using the cruise control due to the high revving. Get better gas mpg by just driving without cruise control on long trips
I have a 2022 4x4 access cab SR5 4 cylinder Tacoma and I average 22-25mpg. Some trips I’ll literally get 28mpgs. I really thought the taco was the right truck for me but being 6'1 I was having the same problem with my knees almost hitting the steering wheel and the bottom seat cushion being too short. Currently looking for a Tundra
yeah tundra is the way to go
If that's your only negatives.

YOOOO CONGRATS ON 10K 🥳🔥🎉
Thanks G
The gas mileage is subjective to how you drive , where you drive ( off road , mountains, hills , city etc… and they make tuners that will greatly enhance your mileage and performance)
The Tacoma isn’t for everyone, but it checks all the boxes for me and MY needs .

It is ok is true everything’s is perfect but not the space 😢 my husband has pne 2022 and we have kids and is not good for traveling
Aw
I six foot 250 pounds and I do not feel squished at all in the front 2 seats, definitely tight in the back seat.
I’m thinking about getting it without the back seats.
You should do tune to fix gear hunting issues.
I didn't like the brakes. When you hit the brakes the nose dive and you damm near have to floor it to get going
I have the Gen 3, and my gf is in the front, and our kid has lots of room in the back. But for a group of adults, the Trundra would be a better option.
The Tacoma and 4 runner have similar design motors there torque and power is in the upper revs .. .. really not truck motors but reliable.. hopefully they fix this in the 2024 2025 models
yes i agree
I hate how I can feel engine harmonics throughout the body and steering wheel
We just bought a trd sport. We'll let ya know if anything happens.
thanks
They call it toyo...and not tiota.
Just bought one and love it!
Nice
I like the way they look and then i tried to sit in one and could barely get into it.
yeah maybe not for everyone
The truck is fine you can’t buy anything as dependable as a Tacoma and resale is great you can always make modifications
True
*Things I dont like:*
-I have to choose between plugging in my phone to use it's GPS and my mp3 player; add a second USB port.
Appreciate the heads up 👍🏼💪🏼
You don’t drive conservatively you pass everyone on the highway going 80-90 miles per hour just keep it at a constant rpm you’ll be fine
how do you knowwwwww
@@TheUnrestricted you drive a pick up truck
