I couldn’t agree with you more - the Old Spice glass bottle is the best one. The Old Spice you used in the 60s/70s was made by Shulton. My dad used the Shulton Old Spice in the 80s and I clearly remember it being more luxurious, more concentrated, more creamier with more projection, more sillage, and more longevity than any version of Old Spice today.

      Hey Mr Adam. 🙂
If I ever start my own fragrance house I'm going to create some of my childhood colognes I used to love that has been destroyed by reformulations. Like 1960's Old Spice, Brut etc. And some of the discontinued colognes like Chaps by Ralph Lauren which I also loved. 🙂❤

I like the Old Spice cologne spray. It last long if you spray it on your clothes. I sprayed it on a vest and the next day I could still slightly smell the cologne.

Such a classic. My grandfather taught me the subtle art of application when I was in grade school. Gifted me the vintage shulton glass bottle (with the large ship) that seemed like it would last forever. I remember one teacher told me it reminded her of her father. I could see in her eyes she missed him as I miss my grandfather today.
Pardon the nostalgia. To me, nothing beats it.

In deed it's as you mention. The "original" is the closest to the old one. But it lasts just 30 minutes. Then it disappears. Smell nothing on me after 30 mins. At least the "classic" lasts longer on the body if you put a lot. I can smell it after 6 hours.

Hi Daniel, the „Original“ is here in Germany available almost everywhere and cost 4-6 EUR per 150 ml A/S, the EdT is available only online, but also only 5-10 EUR per 100 ml.
It may be better than the US „Classic“, which I dont‘t know, however, compared to the „original Original“ from the Shulton era, it‘s just a pale shadow of it.
Have a great start into the week, best regards from Germany, Daniel (as well 😉)

  • @bonsaibobby1

    I agree...
The "Original",is FAR superior,to the current crap referred to,as ''Classic"(both aftershave and cologne)...When P&G purchased Old Spice from Shulton back in 1992 however, the INITIAL reformulation though a bit more flowery, than the powdery Shulton original, wasn't really hateful...not as good as the orignial Shulton of course but acceptable..
There is also,a very HTF ETD Original (COLOGNE,not after shave),bottled in this same polar white glass bottle, from either Italy or Germany....Cost is only a few dollars more..$17.52...but the shipping is close to,$50.00..I may go ahead a purchase a bottle, because as close as the ''Original after shave" is,it simply is too weak and doesn't seem to project very well....Just purchased a bottle a few days ago...It certainly smells very close to the Shulton formula though...not exact mind you but the closest to date that I'm aware of including the version being bottled in India, which is another attempt at recreating the original...SHEESH!! Why can't they just leave perfect alone and call it a day?
Been wearing Old Spice, since first grade(1960) and purchsed my first 8oz splash on bottle, for $1.00...
Of all the colognes that I have ever worn, including my current collection,of both designer and dime store scents,Shulton Old Spice formula will always be my very favorite..

I remember growing up in the 90’s, smelling the classic glass bottle old spice on my dad… I just loved that smell! It was nostalgic; make me feel safe and at home. Now my son uses the dry deodorant, spray old spice, and it is god awful. It reeks of the whole house and has this nasty artificial smell to it. I’m trying to talk him into using the old stuff from Italy lol🤣

Hello sir. Your comparison made me reconsider some things. I live in Greece and having the original at my disposal at a relatively good price, I had in the back of my mind that if I found the American version I would be closer to the old old spice recipe. You have confirmed that this is not the case. Also yesterday, seeing a comparison of the Brut asl, I saw that the one sold in our supermarkets - Brut Original in a short glass bottle - is closer to the original Faberge version than of the other in the plastic tall one. All this time I thought you had the best versions οr the better ones.

      Hey buddy. 🙂
I'm really glad I could help. A long time ago in the 60's, 70's and 80's Old Spice and Brut here in the United States was by far superior and quality was so good. But things have changed. Big companies bought them out and eventually made them so low quality! You'll just have to try different versions and see which ones you think are the best in your opinion. I'm so glad you commented to me. Thank you. 🙏

The original Old Spice was actually developed in 1937 as a fragrance for women. It was designed as an "oriental" amber style fragrance that was similar to the wildly popular Shalimar. It had a colonial style theme and did well enough that it sold out the first year it was made. The guy who made it created a men's line the next year. It was basically the same fragrance as the women's version, but without the rose, and it used sailing ships as a theme to differentiate it from the women's line. The men's version exploded in popularity, but they still sold the women's line until the 1960s. I grew up wearing Old Spice as well, and I still wear it, although now a days I much prefer real oriental amber style fragrances from companies like Amouage. However, they can be a bit heavy during the hot summer months, and when that is the case I still like switching over to Old Spice.
