Tried it since I had TI back in a days and find the firmware on my backup hdd.. Don't know...sounds like the virus, but it has THAT sound which is so recognisable....
These days software got it right, there's no doubt. But hardware stills sounds different, better, in a sense for me. It's not because the dsp or the DAC converters (as some snobs will say). The relationship with the instrument is different. The UI design, te quirks, the knobs, make it a very different experience. I have an old Nord Lead 2. Has a super old VA engine, one of the first. I think there's an emulation comming (same as virus dsp). Still, the ancient Synth 1 plug is modeler after, even the old Reason's substractor it's pretty similar (designer by the same engineer). But the ease of use, almost one knob per parameter, the morphing, have the 4 parts at your fingertips, the amazing wooden pitch (the best pitch stick ever, can do actual vibratos amazingly)... Always I fire up the thing some crazy performance and sounds comes naturally... never got the same from a plug in. But I'm super biased in a way. I work all day long as a sound designer, and keep in front of the computer to do stuff . Will keep these on my computer for sure. Super convenient have them in the DAW.
Good thing I physically have mine right next to me.. Was just thinking about this when I saw the Virus website was taken down and left with a "security banner."

This plugin is going to ensure the virus exists for as long as possible. In other news.. I think the forums were killed off. The URLs to the forum all send you back to the Virus site.
The best way to use this with a daw due to its power hungry nature is to make whatever bassline, melody, etc and then sample it and then delete the vst from your project(not your computer). Its an awesome synth but super powerhungry, very heavy on the CPU
I haven't had that experience at all. In both Bitwig Studio and Ableton I've had multiple instances open and it barely touched my CPU. Maybe you're having some kind of hardware/software conflict.

@@Tonepusher I don't have the hardware, but did download the ROM File from the Access website. @@Tonepusher not at all...was a love hate. Was my first hardware synth in 2007 and was a gift. Maybe it's my nostalgia that is talking but I'd prefer an Hybrid synth like the evolution of the Snow maybe. But I 100% agree, they should at least release it as a software.
Access could have just updated the plugin for m1 silicon instead they cheaped out and somone came alone and totally reverse engineered the shark processors and then built a taylor made gui on top of a virus ti code emulator. The usual suspects developers did more in 4 years than access did in a decade if not longer... Its kind of karma if you ask me.
@@Tonepusher I don't know much about coding either but what these developers are doing is taking synyhs that use the Motorola sharc processors and basically reverse engineering the code to be read on x86 and arm64 processes which are basically just modern day personal computer architectures. Since any digital hardware architecture can usually be understood as a computational framework, anyone who has the time and resources can build the same virtual framework inside a computer with the caveat that the developer should need to understand how both work which is easier said than done. Considering Christophe Kemper developed the virus TI to communicate front to back with computers, I have to assume these developers chose the Motorola chip because of already demonstrated real world communication and integration with x86 (common windows PC) architectures. Christoph Kempwr the maker of the virus stopped updating the software for the ti and so anyone who owned one and used it on a Mac stopped being able to run it on new Mac's forcing people to look for things like this. The silver lining for Kemper and access music is this will likely force them to release a new virus model out of fear that this is going to tank any old virus revenue... Interesting indeed.
PROMOTING FREE OR PROMOTING PIRACY ???? It certainly is not free to own a Ti and to correct you in the description you wrote VIRUS TI emulation which it is not..... They emultated the DSP chips from Motorola and the ORIGINAL firmware is not emulated but simply runs on the emulated chips......
There's more to it than just emulating one chip. They made a whole UI around that emulated chip - a different one for each in the series - and a synth is never just one chip.
I guess it's what you like yourself in terms of genre/sounds. Like mentioned it's that 2000's - 2010's Industrial and EBM synth. I never liked that new Industrial harsh square wave/saw tooth sound and more like a late 80's/early 90's EBM sounds guy so it's not really in my ball park either. it seems to have some nice lush pads though which peaks my interest in it a bit more. Makes me wonder about the softer sounds/plucks/leads it can be capable of 🤔

It sounds just fantastic, awesome video man! Will any MIDI files from the examples be available somewhere like Patreon? :)
Haha thanks man, well I didn't think about that. But I could totally share it, I don't mind! :) I'll wrap that up probably this week end and share it next week. 🤘
@@Tonepusher thanks man, that would be great and actually really helpful for the ones who are not that good with music theory so they can analyze how certain melody patterns are made looking at these files :D
@@maximkazakov6662 true! hehe Could be a cool video too I think...🤔haha
Do you play your own midi patterns or? I dont have arpeggiated sound on nitzer preset, for example...
Yeah it's a cubase project I made hehe
I agree 1000% man, it's a VERY different feeling and workflow. I like both tbh. Couldn't choose haha
Отлично! Спасибо за инфу Oh thanks)
no problem man :) 🤘
hello
can you tell me where this preset is from
NITZER bsxm...
I love it
Good thing I physically have mine right next to me.. Was just thinking about this when I saw the Virus website was taken down and left with a "security banner."
Seriously? I didn't see that, here the website is still up and running 🤔
@@Tonepusher It was temporary apparently.. I thought the end was nigh.
I seriously thought Kemper had just tossed in the towel. I hope they make a successor someday, but for me, I bought mine a few years ago, so it's still under warranty but I kept wondering with the lack of Mac M SoC support and all that.. would it eventually be gone gone? This plugin is going to ensure the virus exists for as long as possible.
In other news.. I think the forums were killed off. The URLs to the forum all send you back to the Virus site.
Where do you find the ROM?
Check audioz
It is the Hocico prime sound.
early Hocico is SO good haha
@@Tonepusher Man, Forgotten tears, especially Scars is still the shieeeeet :)
@@djgnu haha yeah Wrack And Ruins is my jam 🕺
The best way to use this with a daw due to its power hungry nature is to make whatever bassline, melody, etc and then sample it and then delete the vst from your project(not your computer). Its an awesome synth but super powerhungry, very heavy on the CPU
I haven't had that experience at all. In both Bitwig Studio and Ableton I've had multiple instances open and it barely touched my CPU. Maybe you're having some kind of hardware/software conflict.
Megathanks for including 'Hocico' at the 07:00 mark!
haha no problem man :) 🤘
I have the virus ti snow aswell but what do i do to get ostirus working and the firmware?
I have been looking at purchasing a TI Snow. Wish I had the firmware to snag this
I'll probably buy back my snow anyways. It's a great piece of history to have in a collection eventho theres a VST that sounds exactlt the same hehe
@@Tonepusher it’s tempting. Found a couple of used ones at a really decent price.
yeah I think prices are going down since that VST came out. I see a LOT of Virus TI for sale and before that there wasn't a single one.
@@Tonepusher still recommend the TI snow?
@@chadduncan9716 100%, idk what type of music you're making but it can do it all tbh. And in 20 years of making music I've never heard something similar to a Virus.
well now i know how to get the riff from my fave combi song xD
hahaha exactly
My PC is too old impossible to play it 😢 soon i have to buy Core i7 13TH, can't wait 🎹🔥
yeah I opened like 8-10 of them and my cpu was fine. I have a good computer but nothing crazy. It's actually well designed tbh.
this is not an access virus emulation, this is an emulation of dsp 56300 chip.note that it sounds identical to hardware virus
Well it's the chip that was used in the Virus isn't it? Therefore it's a Virus emulation? haha
Which Song is it at 07:28 ? 😮my Head go Crazy…. I cant figure it out 😂
Hahaha, me too! It's Life Is Good by Future ft. Drake
@@gusnperThank you soooooo much 🙏 you made my Day🎉
hello, when I click on "Load preset" and add a file from the Virus banks folder. for example *.MID or *.SYX files writes this:The selected file contains more than one patch. Please add this file as a data source in the Patch Manager instead.
Go to the Patch Manager, right click the 'Data Sources' node and select 'Add File...' to import it.
where to enter? what to click on?
Thanks!
WOW cool
Is it better than Adam Szabo's Viper?
Tbh I never tried Viper, but the thing is that OsTIrus sounds exactly like the original Virus so I'd say that yeah it's better...if you want that sound.
@@Tonepusher it doesnt sound exactly like it.. ir IS it.. the emulation isnt of the virus its of the chip that runs the virus firmware.. visa vi, it is the VIRUS.
Viper is really great AND fully legal, and it uses wavetables from Virus with permission. Definitely not the same as a Virus but an excellent synth no matter what.
Would you please tell me what sound presets have used in this video?
You can see the name of the presets on the interface. Bottom left!
@@Tonepusher got it! Strange thing is that I get different sounds with these presets than you...but more or less the synth is working on my Mac with Logic :)
Oh man!!! I know what I'm doing tonight...
haha hell yeah 🤘Just going around the presets is fun af lol
Am I correct in thinking that you need to own an actual hardware Virus for this to work? I tried without and no chance, entered a seriel number from a unit and registered, followed all download instructions to the letter and no joy. I don't own the hardware but thought this works without?
You just need the Firmware and it'll work! So if you have the hardware you should have the firmware in your folders
@@Tonepusher I don't have the hardware, but did download the ROM File from the Access website. I have loaded it into VST Folder routed to Ableton, it can see the synth, even shows the interface, but no sounds ans keeps prompting me to put .bin file in folder, which I have down in each folder and next to all files. still doesn't like it. Hmmm, maybe I can throw my laptop out of the window now ;0)
@@Tonepusher I meant to add a thank you for replying :D
Wow! Thanks Dude!
hey np man! 🤘
Is this compatible with m series macs?
Anyone know how to get audio from patches 2-16 in multi mode?
*edit* figured it out, I was trying to do this with midi from my Hydrasynth into Ableton. Ableton automatically changed my edited midi channels to channel 1...gotta have separate midi tracks for each voice. "Midi to" dropdown, route each one to a single instance of Osirus/Ostirus. In the "track in" dropdown assign each to a different number and you're in business. Hope this helps someone!
im happy I got rid of my TI , but im happy I can now get this.
haha yeah sonically there's no difference at all! Don't you miss the hardware though? haha
@@Tonepusher not at all...was a love hate. Was my first hardware synth in 2007 and was a gift. Thats was the reason why was hard to sell but if was not the sentimental value that thing did not aged well and the lack of support by the brand that initially was the main selling point really pissed me off. also it had psu issues so yeahhh...I think it's a matter of time until we see it selling below 500. Was cool synth in 2007 the same way MC303 was a nice drum machine in the 90s 🤣
Now find me a hardware version of ReFx Vengeance and were COOKING
lolll Vengeance is such a classic!! haha "The beast" preset 👌🏻😂

@@Tonepusher no works in mojave dude..... cry.......
aww damn... buy a PC! haha 😂

Ok, so it is as free as any cracked vst since you need the firmware (which is not free)
Find out what knobs do! Song gets heavier!,
Am I being dumb...where do you init a patch? lmao
If you go in the ''Browser'' section you should find INIT patches there.
Fire
🔥🔥🔥
Since they discontinued it and they went guitar sim route...maybe they should go virus....complete computer integration-->virus CI
Maybe it's my nostalgia that is talking but I'd prefer an Hybrid synth like the evolution of the Snow maybe. But I 100% agree, they should at least release it as a software.
@@Tonepusher yeah...me also...but then they left me without software for TI on mac os x....low....
Sounds rad, that's unfortunate about the whole firmware thing
Yeah I know :(
Ok so this is basically like an emulator for, say Super Nintendo. Your firmware is the game rom. Seems simple enough.
exactly!
Not a big fan of the filter. Effects are top notch though.
Yeah you're right I think it's the FXs and the waveforms that makes this synth unique.
That's a very interesting point of view. I don't know sh** about coding. Didn't know that! thanks for sharing
Interesting indeed.
ok. this sucks. no presets? where are they at?
😎😎✨✨🎶🎶
Old Roland V-Synt of System 8 are better. Forget your buggy Virus😊
Well for that video I had a Cubase project with about 12 of them open. CPU was fine and no bug at all 🤷🏻♂️
I thought this was about a computer virus.
Haha 😂 now you can make music instead, how cool is that? 😂
it is, kinda. computers weren't invented for music. music, itself, is the virus, and a beneficent one.
That would make great lyrics hehe
PROMOTING FREE OR PROMOTING PIRACY ???? It certainly is not free to own a Ti and to correct you in the description you wrote VIRUS TI emulation which it is not..... They emultated the DSP chips from Motorola and the ORIGINAL firmware is not emulated but simply runs on the emulated chips......
lol It is free. Free like you click and it's loading... After that I'm not responsible of what you're doing with it.
There's more to it than just emulating one chip. They made a whole UI around that emulated chip - a different one for each in the series - and a synth is never just one chip.
I must be one of those rare people who think the Virus is overrated....
Did you take your annual ears checkup?! haha I'm joking :P Yeah well I guess there IS people that don't like the sound of it.
Makes me wonder about the softer sounds/plucks/leads it can be capable of 🤔
@@kenn_foxx5563 Well I think it was associated with that sound because of the era it came out, and the factory presets. Tbh, that thing can make any type of sound. I'm also a huge 80s-90s industrial fan.
Almost pointless. Making something where you need to have other software. Kind of hate these people.
Well, they made it knowing that the Firmware is going around online...hehe And it's free too, why all the hate? haha And my guess is that they'll partner with Kemper/Access at some point too.
its very easy to get the firmware for free
You're too lazy to find it online I guess, I found it within 10 seconds googling... It's free, and you still hate... Hater
Do you need the access virus for this or can you just download it for free ? 😊
@@RealityShiftUK you can download it for free but you need the original Firmware.
I see it's a little heavy on your cpu also :)
yes and no, for the video I opened around 10 of them and it was perfectly fine
also 2-3 would be more than enough for a song
