I don't understand it either. Sometimes the opportunities are so simple and obvious that you scratch your head and think, “WTF? Really? Why don't they make it available for a fee and make a ton of money literally out of nothing?” It seems like they are asleep and not listening to the community at all. What a shame.
Because some effects, like chorus, won't trigger exactly same in time, I believe. Also, the oscillators and filter settings may introduce some nonlinearities over time, which excludes making it same sample by sample. But as this is the chip emulation, what I'm doing in the vid is that I'm running exactly same software synth, which is housed in my rack. Its THE SAME MACHINE :)
It’s not a vst remake of it.. the motorolla DSP is emulated and the original virus OS is run on the emulator as designed. It sounds exactly the same as a TI because it is the TI.

I’m wondering if the chip company might have a problem with using an emulation of their chip? I don’t know much about out it. It would be amazing if they did release it as a plugin. Avenger and viper are doing a great job.
One of the ways that chip companies like Motorola, Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, stay big and powerful is by ruthlessly enforcing their intellectual copyrights with teams of lawyers. They aggressively target Chinese start-ups that ripoff bits of code and they definitely don't want a bunch of nerds making perfect software emulations of their code and giving it away for free. Even if the chip is discontinued (like old Nintendo consoles) the lawyers will protect the copyrights and send scary 'cease and desist or we'll send you to prison' letters. This is why we can't have nice things.
Where in the licence it says you can run the firmware only on the hardware chip? This situation is simply beyond any regulations, they never thought someone can actually emulate the hardware. Not to mention that the firmware with no hardware means you lose the keyboard and knobs of original synth..
@@FoliaSound Remember, the original synth is hardware. There is no such thing as licensing hardware. Buyer got a synth that he paid for, he did not pay for no licence.
@@FoliaSound Don't know about Access, but Apple says in their EULA that you can't run the OS on non-Apple computers, but we have no EULA in Europe so it's completely legal.
I think Christoph Kemper should release an official and optimized VST version of this synth. It sounds great but the emulation of the Motorola dsp introduces some cpu spikes. Spire, more or less, has the same features and presets and runs very smooth and it's more punchy. The magic of hardware synths comes from the dacs, the OsTirus sound is raw and needs a good equalization. Modern virtual synthesizers are developed trying to replicate the analog side of the dacs+preamplifiers characteristics.
But if you use a TI with the VST, the audio is sent to the machine over USB and bypasses the DAC. As for an optimised VST, that would mean rewriting the 24bit fixed point DSP to use integer maths on an x86/ARM, and working out how to use the vector registers for efficiency. Since the Virus firmware is written with a lot of DSP-specific assembly this will not be easy.
If you have the update software used to update the firmware for your Virus TI, you can copy the PKG file to your Mac and then right-click on it and select something like "Show Package Contents", which will let you navigate the files inside of the PKG. There might be another PKG file you have to copy to your desktop and then do the same with it. You're looking for a file with a BIN extension.
Kemper should sell Access Virus IP to someone who cares about the community and can manage capital to produce a new generation of Virus TI 3. Perhaps TI 3 with built in sequencer and arp / scene switches and OneShot mode patches (like drum kits or how BassStation II one shot mode across each key))
Good comparison... The Terratec Komplexer was a VSTi 'clone' of the Waldorf MicroQ. Komplexer will load MicroQ sys-ex. The DSP56300 VAVRA VST is NOT a clone of the MicroQ. I loaded same MicroQ Factory banks sys-ex on Komplexer. Sounds completely different than loading SAME MicroQ Factory banks sys-ex on DSP56300 Varva. Terratec Komplexer was a VSTi is a vst/dsp 'clone' that ran their own code and build to build the Komplexer VST. DSP56300 VAVRA VST is running same original firmware of the Waldorf MicroQ. VAVRA isn't a clone, either... just like OSTIRUS isn't a clone. I'm really amazed by 'what' DSP56300 project has done. Waldorf Microwave II/XT is coming in the near future as well.
Tried to run it, but my virus protection tells me that there is a threat in the .exe file. So, I'm not sure if I should restore that .exe file. Has anyone run in to this problem?
My view, if the product has been discontinued, what does it mean? it means that in a few words the company won't give a crap about what happen to it, meaning you will not get any support, and there will be not product updates or fixes. They stop selling it! which it means they will whatsoever dont make any money out of it, right? meaning they will not lose any money if I go and sell it or give it to someone else. Sales will not be affected!!! remember that, Sales will not be affected!!! so if i go and find a firmware for the virus TI and I use the OsTirus software, will this affect the company financially if you remember well what I said before that sales wont be affected, they will not receive any income or lose any money, their sales for the virus TI will be just 0, no sales, because it is discontinued. They will not lose any money!!

Even that I knew that it's in beta, I bought hardware TI anyway. It's more fun than plugin + it has exactly zero CPU usage :) So I can put heavy effect plugins for mixing instead. I'm waiting for NL3 emulation because IMO second hand is too expensive for what it can do (only 4 layers).
Hey, I understand where you are coming from when you say they sound identical. They are close BUT they sound different to me. I did a blind test and was able to tell which one's which. The Virus has a better low & mids and sounds thicker where as the Ostirus sounds like a software synth, it's got thinner lows and mids and some aliasing? going on which makes it less crispy. Can we by any chance have a null test on more static sounds?
Emulators donts sound exactly the same as real things, i have TI2 and virus powercore, they sound more accurate in quality, have narrower stereo image, by another hand, vsti emulators sound more blurred
Having just watched your AI music vid (of 1 month ago), why is Access' copyright on its Virus firmware be such a problem if AI could create a new "virtual analog" synth modeled after the Virus, with a UI modeled after it, and with presets (and unlimited new sounds and variations) based on Virus presets, and with better, more opended-specs, and possibilities, and audio quality? After all, Virus itself is very much a clone of analog electronics with digital improvements...

Well, if he explains where to find the .bin of the firmware on the internet he will have trouble with Access/Kemper because people who don't own a Virus TI will be able to do the same. So you have to find by yourself but this not very complicated.
I dreamt about virus ti. When I finally bought it second hand, audio out didnt work, usb only, lots of win BSOD. Then it died and took me a lot of troubleshooting, capacitator change to fix it. And then came viper vst. Worst case of synth bad luck and waste of money 😁

I do believe Mr Kemper will return to the Synth Arena one day. He'll eventually get bored of those long haired 6 to 8 string strummers. It's a shame that the guitar planet is larger than the synth one. His bank account and the man himself is happier I guess compared to the Virus days.

No problems here. It's awesome!!! Just find the firmware.... it's there to find.
While a load of patches sound identical I’ve also come across plenty that don’t sound the same while A/B testing with a Ti
They would make so much more $$$ selling as a plugin compared to what they’d earn with hardware owners. It’s a NO BRAINER!! They’d be silly not to! Great video and new sub - thanks🙏👊👊👊
Does this work for Mac???
yeah, my mate got it going
Yes. I have had 18 running well on my base M1 Mac
Yes I have it working on my Mac Mini.
I would love a detailed explanation on how to get this going on a modern mac. How do I get the firmware from the installation file etc.
my dreams have finally come true
That U.... Found what I need....
Another realy big twist is that this thing is consumming a lot of CPU;
On my macbook m1 pro it's such around 50% when I load some complex preset.
It's crazy!
Maybe the emulator is a complexe algorythme, cause I'm prety sure that viper adam szabo how sound exatly the same, is that king of plugin how's consumming maybe 10 times less.
Has anyonee experienced the same issue ??
Yes. It is VERY CPU hungry. There is a setting somewhere on the top right of the plugin, that allows you to tweak it so it runs a bit better though.
I have a Macbook Air M2 and I have never seen the CPU above 15% with this synth...
I have an old i7 3770k, and i can run 4-5 instances without any problems.
@@MrKeplerton same here, I have a 9900K and I dont break 5%
Hello Paul! I would buy the firmware in an INSTANT if I could emulate a Virus TI as a plug-in. I am however tempted to buy a used TI but the TI-software is no longer supported on current OS X versions, so this OsTIrus is indeed an option... all the best, keep on making your videos!
Thanks! Yes, MacOS stopped being supported by Access Music, which isn't a cool thing :( Hope they release the firmware oficially. I think I'll even write to them tomorrow :)
@@FoliaSound Please do so! I don't think that Mr. Kemper has any real reason NOT to sell the firmware at this point since his endeavours are focused on the Kemper amps. Keeping the Virus alive would be not only a viable financial option but a great service to the Virus and the music community🙂
@Hummelsbusch
Bud, I had a Virus ti, the software was always glitchy for me. If I used it on the USB only mode with streamed audio it would crash and glitch out, but if i used the the plugin with USB and the line input option straight into my USB audio interface it was fine. There's actually a lot of really good midi controled plugins fot the Virus Ti's now, some are free and some are not, but theyre are more stable and they have OS X versions aswell.

how can we get it
I don't understand it either. Sometimes the opportunities are so simple and obvious that you scratch your head and think, “WTF? Really? Why don't they make it available for a fee and make a ton of money literally out of nothing?” It seems like they are asleep and not listening to the community at all. What a shame.
I have a virus snow for live use. I use ostirus for testing out sounds and sysex export. Great combination
Great synth and thanks for sharing. Why didn't you invert the phase to demonstrate the patch was the same.
What are the firmware files for the Virus Ti that you can download from the access Virus website!? Can you use them!?
I explained that in the vid, actually...
No you don't! You only say it is illegal, but I like to know are you talking about the firmware that you can just download from their website!? Can I use it, does it work!?
@@AllmedialabNlyes but afaik you can only access those donwloads if you have an account and you can only create an account with a virus serial number.
Hes an ignorant prick, just do a google search for the firmware you will find it pretty easily @AllmedialabNl
@@koncreteto2758 No he's not, and tbf, there's no 'firmware files' to download from their site either. If the OP had bothered to Google this in the first place... we wouldn't be discussing it. #Lazy
Access should just make a proper VSTi plugin, can't be that hard when they have all the software.
Yes, that would be it, absolutely!
They should sell the firmware for 100$ and give Virus TI a great virtual future.
E x a c t l y !
Yes, absolutely.
the should make a virus engine like a fire stick..
I’m wondering if the chip company might have a problem with using an emulation of their chip? I don’t know much about out it. It would be amazing if they did release it as a plugin.
Avenger and viper are doing a great job.
It’s discontinued
One of the ways that chip companies like Motorola, Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, stay big and powerful is by ruthlessly enforcing their intellectual copyrights with teams of lawyers. They aggressively target Chinese start-ups that ripoff bits of code and they definitely don't want a bunch of nerds making perfect software emulations of their code and giving it away for free. Even if the chip is discontinued (like old Nintendo consoles) the lawyers will protect the copyrights and send scary 'cease and desist or we'll send you to prison' letters. This is why we can't have nice things.
@@AutPen38 no they don’t care. There’s a massive community of nes emulators and similar video game systems and nobody cares
Good video! I think it wasn’t long ago when I took a look at how much a Virus TI costs….
It took me 2 Minutes to find a reddit post with a link to a googledrive with the firmwares :-) My CPU (M2 Max) has a load of around 2-3%
Where in the licence it says you can run the firmware only on the hardware chip? This situation is simply beyond any regulations, they never thought someone can actually emulate the hardware. Not to mention that the firmware with no hardware means you lose the keyboard and knobs of original synth..
I believe, that the license says that software is an integral part of your synth purchase. That's it.
Does anyone knows where is the ti firmwere file located on osx?
If you have the update software used to update the firmware for your Virus TI, you can copy the PKG file to your Mac and then right-click on it and select something like "Show Package Contents", which will let you navigate the files inside of the PKG. There might be another PKG file you have to copy to your desktop and then do the same with it. You're looking for a file with a BIN extension.
Hello My Friend Great show
Heeey, James, good to see you again!
`congtars to 10k subs
Komplexer was an aproximation of the Micro Q, Vavra is a clone (exact copy). The DSP is identical and so if the firmware running on top of that.
Tried to run it, but my virus protection tells me that there is a threat in the .exe file. So, I'm not sure if I should restore that .exe file. Has anyone run in to this problem?
upload the file on virus total and let it analyze
_have fun!_
I've owned a Virus B rack, Virus Polar TI, Virus C, had a firned's Snow TI for a year, then bought a Virus Indigo 1 and now this. I can finally stop buying and selling Virus synths....I think.
Yap, if this was a commercial plugin available to everyone, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Right?
what is it like with computer resources?
not bad at all.
The question is, where is the ROM/Firmware file?
Hello sir ,
Saw yr eye opening videos.
is it possible to get any of my song recorded here in SF , free of cost , with music ?
Who can help?
I arrived from India last week in SF and will remain here till May .
It's pretty buggy... I noticed playing it while moving certain knobs .. it buggs out
Your thumbnail picture makes you look like garry lineka
Anyway love ma a ostirus ✌🏻
Even that I knew that it's in beta, I bought hardware TI anyway. It's more fun than plugin + it has exactly zero CPU usage :) So I can put heavy effect plugins for mixing instead.
I'm waiting for NL3 emulation because IMO second hand is too expensive for what it can do (only 4 layers).
I grabbed the plugin , and i want to buy the HW !! but no way to find one recent !!!
wdym recent? The Ti2 came out in 2009.
What kind of filter creates that effect? I hear it in loads of stuff from the 2000s, and I want SOOO badly to recreate it. I7:18
You're modulating a bandpass with an LFO or a gate stepper. Don't forget to crank up the resonance.
@@Mopark25 Thanks a ton man! Will any gate stepper work?

When I open OSTIRUS in my DAW, no matter how much you tweek the knobs on the UI, no sound is coming out. How do you manage to make it sound?
browser
You need the ROM file of the hardware, it won't make any sound without it.
whoa
My Virus runs on digidesign HD3 cards. That use those motorola chips.
sorry ,don't understand , not english , is ostirus a vst that just can run on a daw ? thank .
That is correct
Yes it is, but it needs original, legally acquired firmware from the original Virus TI!
@@FoliaSound I really hope they do a Supernova 2 one as well. I own one and would love to have it inside the DAW :D
@@1wibble230 You have now free V-Station. Of course it is not powerful as (Super)Nova but good to go if you want Novation sound patches.
Hi , where can I get legally the firmware?
You can't. That's the thing.
you gotta buy the synth ~$1-2K
Hey, I understand where you are coming from when you say they sound identical.
They are close BUT they sound different to me. I did a blind test and was able to tell which one's which.
The Virus has a better low & mids and sounds thicker where as the Ostirus sounds like a software synth, it's got thinner lows and mids and some aliasing? going on which makes it less crispy. Can we by any chance have a null test on more static sounds?
Placebo
Emulators donts sound exactly the same as real things, i have TI2 and virus powercore, they sound more accurate in quality, have narrower stereo image, by another hand, vsti emulators sound more blurred
It is a great plugin for sure. One funny thing, from 8:15 on it sounds like a riff within my last song: ruclips.net/video/EEC3kpnPSAM/видео.html
i mean, that’s a basic sound😅
I have a virus registered on the access website. How do I find the firmware download to try this ?
c:\Program Files\Access Music\Virus TI\Common\
So basically if I pay 600.000 € for a new special Ferrari , and than when I own it I can use it completely for free ?
Having just watched your AI music vid (of 1 month ago), why is Access' copyright on its Virus firmware be such a problem if AI could create a new "virtual analog" synth modeled after the Virus, with a UI modeled after it, and with presets (and unlimited new sounds and variations) based on Virus presets, and with better, more opended-specs, and possibilities, and audio quality? After all, Virus itself is very much a clone of analog electronics with digital improvements...
Have you seen AI that creates whole programs including UI? Not to mention you would need their ROM source code.
Someone needs to use this emulator code and put it in an open DSP so that we can have it in hardware again
I have TI, can someone explain to me why I need this plug-in if I have TI because I don't understand the idea???
if you have this plugin, you can sell the virus😆
you dont *need* it if you have the hardware.
you could say its better to use the hardware as its not (heavily) running on your cpu like this vst
@@cyfrowakomunatv not entirely... for me knobs are much more inspiring than a computer mouse ;)
please check the viper vst by adam szabo. It's not identical but pretty close one
I know it and it's great indeed!

Very nice video, I have a virus to till now, so you mean if I download Ostirus Vst3 Plugin & open it in my daw then how to load the Firmware ? I have my Access Virus software plugin from my account I downloaded it so how I download the firmware ? Can you explain how I can do it ? If you have time ? Thank you so much if I am able to make it work this will be my dream came true again , thanks
Well, if he explains where to find the .bin of the firmware on the internet he will have trouble with Access/Kemper because people who don't own a Virus TI will be able to do the same. So you have to find by yourself but this not very complicated.
I already found it thank you it was very easy
@@amrsalahmahmoud3034Cool! 👍
I need the firmware
I am the legal owner of Virus TI but did not manage to run OSTIRuS under mac OS Sonoma)
I dreamt about virus ti. When I finally bought it second hand, audio out didnt work, usb only, lots of win BSOD. Then it died and took me a lot of troubleshooting, capacitator change to fix it. And then came viper vst. Worst case of synth bad luck and waste of money 😁
If you need a ROM copy holler
ROM copy please
i am hollering :)
I have Ti snow and all sounds and quality is the same :)
It idsnot true about the downloading the firmware....
CPU usage?
Moderate, I would say. This is not any rocket science ;)
Why? Is your CPU not there to be used?
Let me be honest at the risk of sounding selfish. Virus, is for Virus owners. If you bought one, A, B, C, Classic, Ti, Ti2, then it's fear game. Again, and I agree I do sound horrible : )). lol
I do believe Mr Kemper will return to the Synth Arena one day. He'll eventually get bored of those long haired 6 to 8 string strummers. It's a shame that the guitar planet is larger than the synth one. His bank account and the man himself is happier I guess compared to the Virus days.
there is a second twist. Look at your CPU usage for using the emulated DSP plugin. You didn't cover that aspect unfortunately.
I didn't run proper performance test, but my VST meter doesn't go crazy during the shoot, while having the ASIO buffer at 32 samples...
Any modern PC will run the firmware emulator without issue.
If you don't like your CPU being used, you can always turn off your computer.
i don’t think anybody really cares about legal issues here 🤣 don’t arguing if it’s good or bad, it’s just how it is..
btw. original access plugin doesn’t work on mac anyway, so for mac users is havong OSTirus actually bettwr option than having HW..
seems like everything has been fixed. Only CPUis a serious issue
I own a TI and feel like cheatet. Having an expensive device, which is not running on my newest mac, and anyone now can make the same music... My device is worthless...
not _worthless_ . currently going for $1-2K on reverb.
I dont have my virus anymore but im stil have a acces acount and with that i can download the installer en in there threre is te firmware so you dont have to have a virus i already playing with it for 2 weeks ist awesome :) btw they have also emulated the virus c so now I have them both
