Regarding tutorials foe Melda Plugs: Personally, I feel if someone were to release that quite a few people would be interested. I use and love Melda Plugs and know that I don't even use a quarter of the capabilities. I would 100 percent be interested in a set of tutorials that went into depth with these plugs, along with suggested use cases. Whether you released it via an established company or via Patreon, with the prerequisite marketing, such a set of tutorials would do pretty well imo.
As a long time Melda user I just don't get the UI arguments. I'm not looking for great audio tools that allow me to dial in the sound that I want for my sounds. Nowhere in that process does something need to look nice. In fact the opposite can be true. If you compare Melda's total bundle (Which I use and love) to something like waves you can see why melda operates this way: If you learn a Melda plugin, you will know every plugin. If you leanr a waves plugin, none of the things you learned in that interface carry over to other plugins. The flat, basic, no bullshit interface of Melda allows you to focus on the things that matter: the parameters that allow you to change the audio signal running through the plugin. I also don't really care about the depth of the plugin like many others. THat's the point of the tool. if I need a simple compressor I'll load something else. I've loved melda stuff for a while now and I can only say after a few years of use it becomes the most powerful set of plugins by a long shot...
Unfortunately looks matter, it’s why aesthetics is a field of study. Personally I don’t like Melda’s gui n that’s the deal breaker. Same reason I don’t fancy IK Multimedia plug-ins that much. @@lasgidikingin I disagree. The uglyness of melda plugins has no effect on me. I can produce with then fine and have done so for almost a decade... Aesthetics are important in other fields including, as you said, the publishing of music but in this case for me it doesn't matter. I believe professional audio tools should be judged on their audio processing capabilities and the way they integrate into your workflow, both of which Melda has absolutely nailed. making the plugin look better won't do anything for the first bit and may actively ruin the second part. I'm glad melda isn't listening to the aesthetics artuments too much and I think anyone judging the tool based on aesthetics is making na uninformed choice... but that's just my opinion... :)
Sound quality was the number one reason I finally went all in on the MCompleteBundle. Absolutely no regrets other than not realizing what Melda offered much earlier on. Yes, that's partially due to the interface. But now, jumping around between the 112(?) plugins, this unified style is great. I don't think about it anymore. It's efficient considering the insane depth of the plugins. Thanks for helping putting the spotlight on Melda.
On Reaper DAW we have the same "Problem" with the Rea-Plugins, but i think its wonderful and keeps me concentrate on hearing. Like a Mixingengineer once said: it's audioenginEAR , not audioenginEYE
Thank you, love you putting a perspective on Melda I had never heard before, though I used their software freebees often, I really found it both helpful and inspiring for me to look closer at Melda! I have been on the music train for as long or longer than most! ( Going back to my first Sony 1/4" = 2 track, about 1973, about 1985 integrating midi to my Tascam 1/2 " 8 track, with my Atari ST - locked on with Hybrid Arts SmpteTrack that I used through the 90's) And my love affair with the art of writing and recording music is still as exciting to me now as it was at the very start! Great input on Melda.....Thank you!
The thing is, they are *not* for everyone. It's down to individual taste. I found them to be an acquired taste, but once I acquired it, they became the ones I reach for first. Sonically they're the equal of the best on the market, and some of them do things that other plug-in manufacturers aren't doing. Unfortunately, especially in the case of the unique processors, the documentation is sparse. If you're the sort of person who likes tools that get the job done quickly with the least amount of fiddling, you'll probably not take to them. If you're the sort of person who likes having tools that can do so many things that you'll never exhaust their potential, then you'll find that with MeldaProduction
The reason I used to prefer other brands wasn't even anything technical at all. It was just that I didn't like the UI specially the colors. I knew the plugins were really good but I just didn't like the UI. However, they added themes with detailed customization and I found one very nice dark theme that I just love. Their addition of multiband plugins was very welcomed by me, and sometimes they have really good sales like for Black Friday where they had some of them as low as $9.00, and so I bought a lot of them and now they are some of my favorite plugins.
I love Melda - I pretty much always reach for their MAutoDynamicEq when i need a quick and easy EQ - quite often, having that saturation knob on the EQ comes in handy. I think their multi-band plugs are incredibly useful. This viddy is reminding me i should use more of my Melda stuff more often!
I been on the melda bandwagon for years. There are a few of their plugins that are my go tos vs waves or any other more well known manufacturers. Their EQs sound clean The limiters get loud and stay clean The multianalyzer is a must That one that fixes phase issues .. amazing stuff
To me I found Melda plugins was intimidating when I was starting up as a musician, now after 19+ years of experience I find them more useful than other brands and simply I have more knowledge of what im doing when mixing and mastering my own songs. I pretty much use the native in my DAW and Melda and less analog sim EQ style now a days. I'm even just using Airwindow no-UI design plugin for sound design.
You should try clicking the "Settings" button at the top right of each of the Melda plugins, and there under "GUI & STYLE" click the "Style" button. There you will find 15 styles, a way to resize components and not just the windows size, and color customizations for several things and it includes presets. My favorite style is "Argon"
Hey, I should have mentioned it in the vid, you're absolutely right! Yet I believe that proposed styles don't really fix the problem of Melda plugins general UI and UX factors. I was thinking about something more substantial than offering some half-3D skins. I believe, that Melda layout lacks a bit of visual hierarchy, which could be acheved by making it more 3D, for example, or more color shades. Argon is the only new style, that improves anything for me and makes Melda more pleasant, the rest orbits absolutely same planet of sweet clunkiness and outdated ideas. Anyway, that doesn't stop me from loving Melda plugins, to make it clear! And I'd like everybody to test them out!
Each plugin has an incredibly detailed help menu, and for me personally, I've learned more about the technical fundamentals of working in the box from the various help menus in Melda plugins than from anywhere else. Not only do they explain what the various knobs and buttons do and how they shape the sound, but they also explain how tweaking them effects things like CPU / memory usage. It's actually really, really useful information that is often conceptual in nature, which means the knowledge gained can be applied to all of your other plugins too. Yeah, the UI could be better I guess, but I honestly don't mind it at all at this point.
Another thing is the company-wide antialiasing built into all their plugins. And I love the instant benchmarking, which is really a way of showing off how efficient their plugins are (I can run 580 of these? Okay!).
Yeah, I forgot to mention the crazy good cpu efficiency as well. I've ditched many a cool looking plugs and companies because of their disregard for my cpu cycles. :) Voitech has mad skills!
I eventually bought the whole Melda offering following Ian Shepherd's recommendations back when Melda offered it at an extremely good price, and I use them regularly. I also buy some of the associated plugins built using his plugin kits. I have no complaint ever about sound quality, but I do acknowledge that some of them take quite a lot of thought to get going... the third-party ones have more obvious GUI's though steadily that is improving...
Thank you so much for making all these great videos!!! I am also a fan of the Melda Plugins! So Powerful & so many convenient features!!! Regards from Detroit!
They seem good to me, speaking as an owner of the complete bundle. Still learning everything though. They are not always best in class, it depends on if they fit what you’re doing just like any plug-in.
Of all the fx plugins I use, Melda are the best looking. Of course, the only other kind I use are reaper stock plugins. For my purposes, I only care how they sound though.
Sometimes I feeli like you want to discourage people to do anything. Maybe you personally like them secretely, but don't want others to use them😉 Joking. I like Meldas, it's everything about personal preferences and imagination.
1,2 & 3 = user interface. I have all Melda plugins but took a while to warm to the interface. I think Melda has described it as a Technical User Interface. V powerful plugins.
For me, many years ago I bought the big synth they do, didn’t really get on with it and then found out some complicated & greedy reselling policy which meant it wasn’t worth selling. Maybe a small thing, but it stopped me looking at their products forever, I doubt it will ever change.
I adore Melda plugins but here's the litmus test: press the 'edit' button on their flagship Turbo reverb vst and within 5 secs you will either have suffered a nose bleed or break out in hives....Yes, you can design your own reverb algorithm right down to the placement and size of individual reflections. The usual barb thrown Melda's way is people don't like the GUIs but with about 15 to choose from in any conceivable contemporary style, if you can't find one you like: better check your pulse pilgrim.
People are afraid of them because the user interface is awful for new users. However once you learn it, you can easily adapt and translates well to other plugins released by Melda
(note: I'm a programmer, not musician.) I think the reason Melda's plugins look complicated is because they do not make single function plugins. For example, Melda does not have MGate or MDeessor. That's because they are compressors. Of course, Melda's compressor has Gate and Deessor presets. But to find them, the user must have knowledge about them. Likewise, Melda doesn't have an MExciter, but I don't know what an Exciter is. Personally, I like the Melda's way, but I hope they will offer a long lecture on sound creation for understanding their methods.
I like Melda plugins but I sure wish they'd do a better job of explaining some of the functions on the plugins. Not too crazy about the new interfaces. They seem kinda odd. Additionally, though I like AutoDynamicEQ, I sure wish it was easier/faster to add filters or change the filters to Mid or Side. Too many clicks to do this. Needs improvements for sure.
True, there's definitely room for improvements. But to have come up with a generalized, mostly very well functioning UI system for over 112 plugins? That's quite the accomplishment.
If you care what the interface looks like then music making may not be the career for you. Effects plugins are tools. I also don't care what colour the handle of my screwdriver is.
They look intimidating, technical, advanced, the UI is not very welcoming. However I know they are really good, I just never get to really learn them and use other plugins instead
Once you drop TurboEQ into plugin doctor you basically find out its just MEqualizer with another GUI... everything is exactly 100% the same down to the harmonics and noise floor, which all of them will lack until you turn up the saturation knob. Completely outside of Melda's philosophy tbh... not something one should buy from them when MEqualizer is just there for FREE, with more features. The very best thing Melda has is their TurboReverb, now that's something. Easily the best reverb on the market today.
I own the complete bundle, I still not use it much as I should. Sadly there is not really much channels treating Melda here. Chandler Guitar is probably the best and only resource for in depth knowledge. Msoundfactory is powerful but as many say the UI is not inviting to experiment or build patches. No matter what it is amazing powerful and MAutodynamic is my go to resonance killer
Very powerful and deep plugins, but I rarely have need to go that deep with what I do. I don't mind Melda's UI design; I'm also a fan of Voxengo's UIs, so that doesn't say much (apparently). However, I do have issues with the UX which I don't have with the more modest tools that I do use regularly. Perhaps if I was patient I'd give Melda more of a go, but for me it's more the destination rather than the journey (at least to start with). Any road-blocks, however small, impede that no matter the other merits.
I believe for me anyway that the UI does help, but for me it has to be clear and show what is going on. I'd sooner turn a lovely dial than slide a boring slider that's next to other boring sliders, it's more like being on a console which would be preferable but totally unachievable with it's price for the average user.
There are some great plugins there but time is money, and when you have bad UI it’s just a trade off with how much time it takes to use vs a simpler laid out plugin.
The UI arguments aren't always about looks. Some people don't work well with tiny interface elements especially when a plugin is extremely advanced. There's so much good stuff but I feel for people whose eyesight is worse than mine. And screens that open on the right and left of the main GUI can be confusing. In fact, the "edit" button at the top of the interface is tiny, on MAutoDynamic EQ. I think I spent several minutes trying to figure out the basics of the interface before I could work with it.
I kinda judge melda by their auto tune plug in. Which definitely feels like a half ass made free auto tune. I used to use it for a kinda destructive but tuned sound but I switched over to the free spoton plugin. I really wanna try out the melda comb filter though.
Melda plugins are too complex for most people of today, people want plugins where the plugin does most of the work without having to do much and the UI does not indicate or inspire that train of thought. That said, they make amazing stuff. I am a victim of that mindset, I need to dive into Auto Dynamic EQ 😉
I haven't even watched the video yet, but I'll answer the question. The GUI is clunky and not intuitive, the plugins are ugly, and for the amount of years they have been around, there are very few tutorials.
The lack of good tutorials is a really problem. I really believe it's harming their sales. To make matters worse the manuals are just a clunky as the UI/UX, so yeah, I'm going with lack of info in how to use them as one of the biggest factors. Honestly just information in general. Take msoundfactory for example. There are three versions and it's super unclear as to exactly what the differences are, even watching their video on what the differences are leaves you guessing. Such a simple thing to fix. JUST ADD A COMPARISON CHART ON THE PRODUCT PAGE MELDA!
@@Windiguana yes I totally agree. I truly think whoever the owner is or the decision-makers just doesn’t care, or doesn’t want to give up enough money to market properly. One of the biggest piss offs is that I bought MSoundfactory and was looking up tutorials on it, and there is barely anything. It doesn’t matter how much power a plug-in has if most users cant figure out how to use it.
I stopped using these plugins because the UI's are terrible and confusing. I get tired jus looking at them. It's not about the complexity, I like complex plugins,.... but my eyes must like them too. The colors Melda use seem to stress me.
i still use the special free package that could be upgraded by 50bucks or so, plus 3 other ones i purchased. i always liked the ui, especially the color scheme. some plugs need some time to things sorted, but thats no prob. its not like youi need days or hours to learn it. bujt i dont like the synth and the drummachine ui with that design and layout tbh
The reason I hate, not afraid of. I hate Melda plugins is because I once installed their free bundle on an old computer and it was a virus, I was totally unable to uninstal them. They worked ok, they sounded ok, they were actually pretty good and interesting plugins. I didnt like the interface or how they worked. So I decided to uninstal them because , they, just weren't for me. Well, that proved to be impossible. Luckily I was saved by a major crash on the computer which facilitated a total factory system reinstal... ...At last I was rid of the swarm of Melda plugins which were living on my hard drive; unfortunately, I also lost some of the best and hardest worked projects that I had created until that point.
I used them back in the day, very harsh processors. I had tte complete bundle when they first came out. Very finicy to use. Not a very good lnterface to play with. They had their day.
I've used some Melda plugins in the past but never liked them that much. The sound was ok but the GUI was terrible, I never could achieve the result I wanted to hear fast + I always had something else that sounded better in a mix. So a) slow to use b) sounded ok but I always could find something else that sounded better easily c) I can't stand the look of GUI. But if they are working for others it's good - just not for me
I use several Melda plugins regularly and have been very impressed by the sonic results, but never by the UI. I think people are put off by not only the UI but the website. Website has a look that seems unprofessional and "freeware-ish", and needs to have better writing to describe what the plugins can do with examples, user testimonials, etc. Downloading the free bundle also downloads all sorts of other stuff, which is annoying.
They are too convoluted, that's the answer. I bought the bundle years ago to support him and have NEVER used them. There is truth to the phrase "too much of a good thing". I don't know if he has improved them but the GUI's were also awful. BTW, for anyone reading this, the plugins are sonically good and very powerful, I just don't like the workflow. No, I am not "scared" of them FFS, I just don't like using them. I use UAD, Softube, MCDSP, mastering the mix and plugin alliance as my every day mixing tools and am very happy with them. Very.
GUI is often not very intuitive and often have a long and confusing learning curve, takes too much time to learn, and therefore easily forgotten, not intimidating, just too much time needed to operate
It's not fear, it's disgust: 1) they look like s**t, especially with the native alternative skins they provide - it's so called "programmer art" 2) each plugins has 2-3 versions, which is confusing 3) if you install their free bundles, it installs whole bunch of paid stuff as well, making it confusing again Technically, they're brilliant.
What do you mean it installs a whole bunch of paid stuff as well? You download the installer and select what you want to install. Calling it disgust is a shame, Melda has really good consumer practices such that any product you buy comes with updates for life. The UI is a bit busy/ugly, but they're great products with great consumer practices in my opinion.
@@ChrisPFuchs Lest time I installed their free stuff it was installing full versions, that were disabling some features but they were clearly there in the UI. That's what I mean. Perhaps they've changed that. It must've been 3-4 years ago. The distaste remained.
Dear Melda Audio of your teams is watching right now, you’re losing more customers because your aesthetics is ugly n cumbersome. In human psychology good looks screams safety n trust even though the person may actually be a psychopath
I think alot of it has to do with comprehensive tutorials. The ones that you can find are over a decade old and the ui is just not intuitive. I have the full bundle but phaseplant is just so much more intuitive (also arguably just as ugly so its not the gui). I can put an lfo on something and customize it in less than 5 seconds in phaseplant. In soundfactory i need to click thru 3 or 4 windows before i even can see an lfo
Their kinda modular UI style is just awful (in my opinion as an architect and designer), that is it. Sounds good, looks and more important feels uninspiring and tasteless.
The UI is cumbersome and there are too many settings. I appreciate the swiss army knife abilities, but they are just a workflow killer. And productivity is crucial to my mixing workflow. There are too many tabs/buttons all over that reveal even more settings. This is not a bad thing if they only made a handful of plugins, but they literally make dozens of plugins. To explore, learn and remember just half their library is a daunting task and I have deadlines to meet and other plugins that get me to the final vision much quicker.
Because they unauthorise themselves halfway through using them in a track after you paid £50 for it. Then when you contact them to ask why they blame you for doing something wrong and then when you say that's not helpful they get really pissy with you. Don't be a fool like me . Avoid !

I personally love them.
Danke!
Their phaser is one of the best sounding ones there is
People are afraid of them because the user interface is awful for new users. However once you learn it, you can easily adapt and translates well to other plugins released by Melda
great show paul!!
(note: I'm a programmer, not musician.)
I think the reason Melda's plugins look complicated is because they do not make single function plugins.
Kisses from France 🇨🇵 😘
Hellooo, France!
Hey Paul - just sent you a few bucks 🎉 thanks for your work and inspiration 😎
Thank you so much, I really appreciate this :) Good to have you as a viewer of my channel!
Melda is great. Tried them long ago.
Very reasonable, short analysis. Thanks!
I believe for me anyway that the UI does help, but for me it has to be clear and show what is going on. I'd sooner turn a lovely dial than slide a boring slider that's next to other boring sliders, it's more like being on a console which would be preferable but totally unachievable with it's price for the average user.
Melda plugin are amazing... Nothing more to say....
I use MPlugins for a long time... I never had any complaint...
9:16 WHOA. You can control the transient of each band? Add harmonics to just one band? Apply them by the fundamental? What?!
There are some great plugins there but time is money, and when you have bad UI it’s just a trade off with how much time it takes to use vs a simpler laid out plugin.
I don't think people are afraid of plugins they are just not visually attractive.
yes your channel is very visually attractive.
The comb filter is nuts. Definitely check it out.
Yes!!!!!
They got sooooo many plugins.
UI sucks!
Loading the one's you want is a nightmare.
I stopped using these plugins because the UI's are terrible and confusing. I get tired jus looking at them. It's not about the complexity, I like complex plugins,.... but my eyes must like them too. The colors Melda use seem to stress me.
I felt the same and I suffered from sharp headaches two days in a row. This problem was fixed by a simple visit to the local doc for an eye checkup.
I don't care for the stock color schemes either. I set my own colors. I didn't find it hard to come up with something I liked
that 700$ pricetag or whatever is the scariest part IMO
i still use the special free package that could be upgraded by 50bucks or so, plus 3 other ones i purchased. i always liked the ui, especially the color scheme. some plugs need some time to things sorted, but thats no prob. its not like youi need days or hours to learn it. bujt i dont like the synth and the drummachine ui with that design and layout tbh
I don't seriously think there's anything like a virus inside Melda plugins...
I used them back in the day, very harsh processors. I had tte complete bundle when they first came out. Very finicy to use. Not a very good lnterface to play with. They had their day.
Melda (the name) sounds like a food brand..... The plugins are actualy very good...
i love melda
I've used some Melda plugins in the past but never liked them that much. The sound was ok but the GUI was terrible, I never could achieve the result I wanted to hear fast + I always had something else that sounded better in a mix. So a) slow to use b) sounded ok but I always could find something else that sounded better easily c) I can't stand the look of GUI. But if they are working for others it's good - just not for me
Voxengo is another sleeper people neglect.
Because they are intimidating, i know they are advanced i have seen Nasko and AU5 use them but i really do not have the time to figure them out.
See the vid to the end :) I believe they aren't as difficult as they seem. You can go deep, but you can keep them simple, too!
Embrace the "Edit" button! Do not fear it! Enter the rabbit hole!
Very.
Melda is for "plugin nerds", who spending time more on tweaking plugins but not making music.
GUI is often not very intuitive and often have a long and confusing learning curve, takes too much time to learn, and therefore easily forgotten, not intimidating, just too much time needed to operate
It's not fear, it's disgust:
1) they look like s**t, especially with the native alternative skins they provide - it's so called "programmer art"
2) each plugins has 2-3 versions, which is confusing
3) if you install their free bundles, it installs whole bunch of paid stuff as well, making it confusing again
Technically, they're brilliant.
Im afraid because they always lagged my computers.
I like Melda tools but find some of the plugin ui's convoluted.
The answer is...because the interface was ugly at beginning.
I not scared of the complexity at all, I'm simply repulsed by their dreadful 1990's UIs!
Try some UI styles out there!
Melda, Khz and reaplugins no need for anything else FX wise.
is this a statistic?
Perhaps people are subconsciously realizing this?
Because you need a engineering degree just to understand the graphical UI
Cause they are not fancy
To be honest I absolutely hate the UI in most melda plugins.
Melda has one of the best vst on the market.
I don't care about Melda plugins, I just care about that really nice jacket you're wearing.
Aaaahaha, thanks! It's made in Poland by a company called Lancerto. We actually have crazy nice manswear here in Poland!
One of the worst UI's I ever seen, cluttering meyhem.
Very Ugly Plugins.
Hey, did you try Argon style? You'll be surprised!
Because they unauthorise themselves halfway through using them in a track after you paid £50 for it. Then when you contact them to ask why they blame you for doing something wrong and then when you say that's not helpful they get really pissy with you.
Don't be a fool like me . Avoid !
Oops, never experienced anything like that, sorry to hear this...
