Hori needs to make split pad pro that has motion controls, rumble, wireless compatibility, and a charging rail that connects both controllers into one controller.
Those are far too many features for the target price. The least HORI could include without raising costs too much is rumble. The others are far too cost consumptive.
@Jack Alexander as someone who hated the size of the original joy cons and the joysticks, this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. These are my favorite controllers ever. When I bought them, I didn't know it had turbo and was ELATED when I found out. I love em. I would recommend 100%.
I just got mine last week and I love them. You can't remap the buttons which sucks because I like to switch the buttons to mimic traditional controllers, but they are super comfortable, especially for long gaming sessions.
First day impressions.. Things are insanely comfortable and allow me to play fighting games/shooters at a higher level. D-Pad is accurate when it comes to advanced motions, the analog sticks have minimal dead zones for small aim corrections and the triggers are big enough to rest your fingers on.
So are these still the go-to for a joycon replacement? I'm honestly downright disgusted by my Nintendo licensed Joycons and how crudely they were made.
Yeah someone said whenever you move the sticks on the joysticks it wears away underneath the controller that just seems like a terrible design, I haven’t used my joyCONS at all since I brought the splitcons and haven’t had any problems whatsoever with them. When I’m playing in docked mode I always use my Zelda breath of the wild wired usb controller works great!
I highly recommend the Fixture S1 that's designed to use the Nintendo switch pro controller to play hand held. It solves all issues because you have all the features including hd rumble in this configuration.
Got mines the other day on Sunday 8/22/21 after watching your video Saturday. Love it! Thanks for sharing. Also got a certified Split Pad Pro Case to go with it.
I bought mine for my birthday last month and I love them. While I do still use my Switch while it’s docked, these controllers are so much more comfortable and natural than the average Joy Con. The Joy Cons have always felt too small to me, especially in comparison to the Wii Remotes from the past couple generations, so needless to say, playing in handheld mode is so much better to me now. Plus, on the rare occasion that I have to use the standard Joy Cons for motion control games, at least now they’re free and I won’t have to worry about charging them as much. That and I use them with my iPad.
im in the same boat, as soon as they came out in Australia i believe in September i have not taken them off and they are the best controller you can get on the switch, i used to use the satisfye grips which are good but but this is a genuine high quality controller, all it needs for an upgrade is rumble and motion sensors
How do these compare to the pro controller? Are they just as comfortable? Is the thumbstick travel just as good? I'm stuck between getting a pro controller switch mount and one of these.
In Metroid Dread, I can shooting INSANELY fast with the Turbo button. It's the highlight of the controller for me. It's like a built-in macro for auto click. And I don't think I'll have to worry about getting banned from a game for using it. Been thinking about testing it in some online FPS/TPS games
The split pad pro analoge sticks have a bigger deadzone so they are less likely to drift, because its harder to get out of that circle. But u will need to push a lil farther to move something ingame.
I bought the satisfye grip because the split pad pro wouldn't fit in my case (carrying the satisfye grip seperately is pretty easy), but not that I spend 90% of the time in handheld, I might look into these. Thanks for the review. I came here from a RGT85 referral.
Yeah bought these things last night and I’m waiting for them to ship. It’s good to know they’re durable and don’t drift. Main concern is the size, I think I have what could be considered medium hands, but it would be great for there to be some kind of reference I could use. Like , how big is it compared to an Xbone controller? From the video, it looks like it could be the same size and bulkiness but also the switch is really small, so they could be smaller than that?
just got mine today! it's HUGE! but you are right, it is sooo comfortable, would definitely have no more wrist fatigue. Note that I have the mumba grips, skull&co, satisfye, tomtoc for my OG V2 and Lite. All have their own advantages, but if you dont mind loosing the rumble, gyro and nfc, and are just looking to play comfortably for long sessions, then you should check it out. Great review, man! Hope to see more content! (maybe even recent games that can benefit from the turbo and bask buttons) 😉 Cheers and stay safe!
This is a good controller for me coz I have huge hands and I needed that back button for playing doom and outer worlds. The turbo is a plus for me. For the side scrolling games.
For me when I first bought them they had slight Joy con Drift But after about a week it went away and never came back I've been using it for a few months now and it hasn't came back since
I started to have drifting after my Switch fell 3ft to the floor with the SPPs attached. My right one survived, but my left one started to drift downwards. Detaching and reattaching it temporarily fixed the issue, but it became common after a few days. I've had it for a good five months and will buy a new pair after quarantine.
My left Split Pad Pro actually started to “drift” two days ago. It at times it goes on a long down press. At first I though the extra button was assigned to down by accident but it apparently wasn’t the case.
Drift is possible for all analog sticks, it's just that the teeny tiny Switch Joy Con sticks were designed in a way that causes them to drift way, WAY sooner than other sticks, so if you're worried about drift, any controller or slide-on controllers that use a normal stick type instead of the worthless little things on the Joy Con, will work fine.
Found those controllers in Best Buy during my game browsing. Only one left there on the shelf and I was looking for a new set of controllers (sent my joy cons off to get fixed) so... yeah I bought it. Comfortable as heck, I can finally play Crash Bandicoot and Smash Bros comfortably again.
I usually go through 1 or 2 pads(sometimes 3) each year due to how much strength I have and often break them in literal pieces. Nintendo joy cons gave up in first week. First, one had massive drift after first two days and second I pushed analog inside so its noticeably 2mm lower than the other. It has o drift but also not much of response. Nintendo switch for me is the flimsiest console I ever had. And wouldn't probably have it if it wasnt for HORI. I bought mine on black Friday last year (so 10 months ago) and both left and right have a drift but it is bloody tanky! That drift is still manageable in game and I will probably buy new one on next black friday. T Best part? Cost me less than 40$
My mom really wanted to get me something for Christmas last year and she got these other third party joy cons and honestly they were great and held up nicely. But last night I broke mine 🥺 I hope these last longer.
I bought these shortly after they came out and they have held up wonderfully, they are super comfortable and the analog sticks feels really good. I’ve dropped these so many times and nothing has happened to them. Definitely worth the price and a perfect replacement for the joycons
Have you noticed if yours have gotten looser on the switch, like if they wobble a bit more now? I’ve never dropped mine, but I’ve been using them over 6 months and they’re starting to feel kind of “wobbly”. Just a little, but I’m concerned it might get worse. Im guessing it’s because they put so much leverage on the attachment rail.
With the split pad pro not having rumble isn't an issue for me. I don't play games like Super Mario Party and I just hate vibrating. I play Animal Crossing and Minecraft as the good free games from the eShop and I never use rumble. So this thing would be perfect for me.
I want someone to mod theses with the good stuff of the joy cons like the rumble, motion/gyro, nfc, wireless, and batteries. Just take the stuff from the joy cons but in a controller that won't drift in one month
i just read a reddit section that have been experiencing the same issue as me. if you DO get the hori split pad pro, make sure to make some adjustments. my right hand side of the pair had suddenly stopped working about a year after owning it. there is currently no ongoing solution, which makes this issue 100x harder. im not necessarily too sure when you should expect this issue to arise, or if it will even happen. i have currently owned two pairs that have stopped working. make sure to check the rails of both the switch and controller, or just dont overuse the power of the turbo and assign buttons. hopefully this doesn’t happen to any of you because it is a waste of money and a bummer.
I wish there was a split pad pro (or any attaching controller) with a D-pad where the stick usually is. The stick can be lower, or heck, remove it. I only want to use these things for retro games anyway.
I wish there was a wireless option, as that's my favorite way to play, with the Switch propped and joycons in my hands. But, I finally gave in and ordered one today as I am DONE with the joycon drift. Once these arrive I'm sending the joycon to Nintendo for repairs, enough is enough.
I wish there was a charger or grip that could support this joy con. Because of the little thing in the back you can’t fully put the joy con through the rail therefore making it uncomfortable or unusable depending on your case.
Mine is sucky wont work wont stay connected and have joy con drift on the left and the turbo is glitching and just got them for Christmas. Im ready to send it back sadly . Turbo button glitches so bad I want to break them . Makes me not want to play at all.
Nice! I just got these a few days ago after all the reviews Brett and I have to say they are really awesome. Wish they were wireless and had the option to at least toggle rumble but otherwise these are awesome for me With the switch since I have bigger hands.
The Runaway Kid yeah Nintendo really needs to fix their shit when it comes to joycons. I’m on my third pair of joycons and I just ordered my own hori pro controller. Hori is seriously stealing costumers from Nintendo rn lmfao. The controllers are worth the buy tho!
I just got these for my OLED and love them! The bulkiness doesn't bother me, often I go out with a backpack so throwing a Switch in a case in my backpack is not a big deal. Obviously, my other case was too small so I found a larger one made for OLED Switches with the Split Pad Pro. That is coming tomorrow and then I am all set with my new OLED! I also have a launch Switch, so I plan to hack that into an emulation machine and I can use my other Switch case for that.
I got these on launch. And zero drift. I pocket them the time. (Coat pockets, screen in my hip pocket) ⊙The turbo is something that you'll abuse early, till you learn that you are better off mostly without it. EVERY button can be turbo, but just don't xD ⊙the assignable buttons will become a great friend, making that carefully inconvenient placed control into an easy to mash trigger. ○The only issue i feel needs a revision is the lack of gyro and NFC.
I saw these at my local Walmart one day about 2 months and bought them because they looked more comfortable than the normal joy cons. And I have to say since I bought these I actually like playing my switch handheld ALOT more now than with the normal joy cons. I probably played my switch docked about 99% of the time before I got these, now I love playing handheld mode.
I haven’t found any personally that was one of the things that annoyed me about the joycons and of course the terrible drifting issues, these are much better and more comfortable to hold I would say
I’ve had them over a year and hundreds of hours later they are literally by farrrr the best grips for the switch…also very essential for monster hunter
You forgot to mention the lack of HD rumble. I didn't know it had those 2 buttons on the rear, that'd be very handy for the left & right stick click in buttons, since it's very awkward to click them in when you're still moving them (& it wears the joycons faster).
Might have to get one of these... I barely use the handheld mode since I really don't find the standard joycons comfortable with my averagely large claws.
Mine stopped working after 2 days. Set the switch on the dock yesterday and picked up the game unit with the hori controllers on it and no response from the controllers. Touch screen works so I know the unit is not frozen. Any ideas? Took them off, put back on - nothing. Battery on switch unit is 100%
In reality if the horizon split pad pro had better quality buttons ,some rumble , gyroscope controls these would be perfect and if I could play them wirelessly I would pay happily 90 dollars for this

I didn't even think how useful it would be for Animal Crossing - I imagine it'd be good for speeding through dialogue and crafting too.
This comment just sold me on it. Thanks! Now my farming will be easier 😊
If only it had HD rumble or even just regular rumble. 😞
These are my favorite controllers ever. When I bought them, I didn't know it had turbo and was ELATED when I found out. I love em. I would recommend 100%.
You said split pad pro so many times haha almost too much. Even for a review. Loved the video. I bought a pair of the red ones today!
Ive have mine for about a month now, makes time fly at my second job where I have lots of free time lol
You missed your opportunity to put an Amazon affiliate link to this in the description
Thanks for doing a follow-up video! I love mine and haven't had any issues with it either!
I just got mine last week and I love them. You can't remap the buttons which sucks because I like to switch the buttons to mimic traditional controllers, but they are super comfortable, especially for long gaming sessions.
Something told me come to RUclips for a review, literally got it in the cart on Amazon. About to purchase now 🔥🔥🔥
First day impressions.. Things are insanely comfortable and allow me to play fighting games/shooters at a higher level. D-Pad is accurate when it comes to advanced motions, the analog sticks have minimal dead zones for small aim corrections and the triggers are big enough to rest your fingers on.
I ordered my today off amazon can’t wait ❤️
Has drift or something broken?
Why not just have the Fixture S1 clip mount that is designed to use the Nintendo switch pro controller and solve all problems lol.
How do these compare to the pro controller? Are they just as comfortable? Is the thumbstick travel just as good? I'm stuck between getting a pro controller switch mount and one of these.
Thumbstick travel is better than the pro controller
Thanks for the video pal, Im loving this controller!
They are definently on my wishlist. I play mostly in bed next to my wife and a sleeping baby, and the joycons are just way to clicky.
I still really wish they were bluetooth and there was a way to connect them and have a pro controller and side joycons in one.
The split pad pro analoge sticks have a bigger deadzone so they are less likely to drift, because its harder to get out of that circle. But u will need to push a lil farther to move something ingame.
The back buttons sold me on this, I hate using my thumb to press buttons, i wish they had all 4 buttons on the back tho.
I bought the satisfye grip because the split pad pro wouldn't fit in my case (carrying the satisfye grip seperately is pretty easy), but not that I spend 90% of the time in handheld, I might look into these. Thanks for the review. I came here from a RGT85 referral.
I ordered the satisfye grip years ago to Canada and they charged me $70 at the border! The split pad wasn’t around at the time ☹️
Yeah bought these things last night and I’m waiting for them to ship.
These are amazing, so much more comfortable than usual switch controllers, they should have been the regular controllers.
just got mine today!
it's HUGE!
but you are right, it is sooo comfortable, would definitely have no more wrist fatigue.
(maybe even recent games that can benefit from the turbo and bask buttons) 😉
Cheers and stay safe!
This is a good controller for me coz I have huge hands and I needed that back button for playing doom and outer worlds. The turbo is a plus for me. For the side scrolling games.
Exactly the small buttons, small shoulder buttons, and the small sticks on joycons drive me insane
On your last review, made me buy it, I love it, soo comfortable thx you, great review 👍
Thanks! Glad you like it too! :D
@@Nintendoenthusiast -- thank you once again!!!
I’ve had these since day 1 & had no problems with it at all. It stays on my switch
Thanks for review man!
I forgot this existed! Hm... I suppose it could be nice to have... The joy-cons hurt my hands when I play lying on my side. Haha
No rumble kills this for me unfortunately. Got a grip for my switch instead and im happy with that.
This accessory and the bigger, better screen is tempting me to upgrade to the switch oled from the switch light when it becomes available
At least they’re half the price of 1 fucking joycon. Totally worth the buy
@@PhyxSuccs I agree, I love mine they make playing in handheld like playing with a controller very comfortable
I have those since day 1 of their release and use them daily. Awesome product
Awesome! Think I will do a review of the new colors coming
Turbo Mode allows you to rapidfire a button without trying to destroy it LOL it is really helpful for preserving the buttons so it is a great addition
Finally ordered mine. Couldnt say no at £30!
My left Split Pad Pro actually started to “drift” two days ago. It at times it goes on a long down press. At first I though the extra button was assigned to down by accident but it apparently wasn’t the case.
You might just need to disconnect /connect it, works for me every time
Mine just arrived yesterday and i liked it it more better than the original joycon
Dope video! I appreciate your follow up.
This is exactly what I need. I seen this at Walmart but instantly realized carrying this around wouldn’t be fun
Yeah they are great so much more reliable than the joycons I play rocket league and crash perfectly now!
The only problem I have with the split pad is that there is no rumble. Everything else is amazing.
T
Best part? Cost me less than 40$
I thought they felt cheap at first but after using them I love them. Only thing I hate is that you can’t wake it up with the home button
Just press the power button.
@@ewing.michael77we don’t like that I’d hate for that power button to break
My mom really wanted to get me something for Christmas last year and she got these other third party joy cons and honestly they were great and held up nicely. But last night I broke mine 🥺 I hope these last longer.
I dont care about the size I just purchased mine like 20mins ago lmao Cant wait!!
The gym challenges in no more heroes require godlike button mashing skills and the turbo button just makes them super easy.
Buying one tomorrow 🔥🔥🔥
Do normal joy cons still work? So is the damage just on the hori?
@@pokefreak-zk2hl The damage is just on the Hori.
Great review...
Pro controller for that is better
Yeah the pro controller is dope
I lost my hori solit pad pros on the floor ONCE and now the shoulder button's spring doesnt work or whatever holds it up
What kontrol freek works on those hori joy cons
VG Mobster sounds great still no issues?
Yep still no issues
VG Mobster I’m definitely going to get one as my joycons have serous drift issues I don’t mind not having no motion controls or other things
Ok awesome then it’s def worth it
The Runaway Kid yeah Nintendo really needs to fix their shit when it comes to joycons.
Can you send a link to the case you got pls, I'm having a hard time finding one .
I got these on launch. And zero drift. I pocket them the time. (Coat pockets, screen in my hip pocket)
⊙The turbo is something that you'll abuse early, till you learn that you are better off mostly without it.
EVERY button can be turbo, but just don't xD
⊙the assignable buttons will become a great friend, making that carefully inconvenient placed control into an easy to mash trigger.
Been using this for a year now. Never had any issues.
I had drift problems with this controller but fixed it with quick dry electronic contact cleaner.
My controller keeps disconecting
Does it have any creaks or wobble like the original joycon?
I haven’t found any personally that was one of the things that annoyed me about the joycons and of course the terrible drifting issues, these are much better and more comfortable to hold I would say
I'm getting a set of these from ebay, they looks awesome
I’ve had them over a year and hundreds of hours later they are literally by farrrr the best grips for the switch…also very essential for monster hunter
If the controllers "drift" then disconnect and reconnect to auto-calibrate
Still doesn't work after calibration. Smh
You forgot to mention the lack of HD rumble.
I didn't know it had those 2 buttons on the rear, that'd be very handy for the left & right stick click in buttons, since it's very awkward to click them in when you're still moving them (& it wears the joycons faster).
I bought mine in June 2020, it has been used regularly and I now have controller drift on left stick.
Is it more comfatable then the Satisfye grip?
Yes, for me. I have very large hands, and the satisfy grip (newer model) is great, but the split pad is far more comfortable.
