This is my go to for Handheld mode unless I need to do motion control stuff like some Zelda BOTW puzzles. The D-Pad and the Analog sticks are superior to the Joycons. Much more travel and feels more natural when playing 3D games and using the analogs. The joycons do a good job but I think anyone who has used them and then played on the Official Pro Controller can say that the Analog sticks really dont have as much travel for precision.

This was before these new spit pad pros were a thing. At first they kinda reminded me of having a game gear as a kid because of how big they make the switch feel. Compared to the joycons the joysticks are so much better especially for shooters. Almost as good as the actual pro controller.

Rather just use the SkullNCo grips if the issue is going from dock to handheld while having satisfactory ergonomics. Hori’s biggest deal is the D-pad and the procon-like sticks, which are nice for games that intensively use them like MC dungeons and Daemon x machina. The lack of motion, rumble and wireless feels like a rather big drawback to me, the protective “legs” in the back of the split pads where one of the screws are at also are kinda deal breaker for some that have those protective shells for their switch main units, as most would wrap around or grip the top of the main unit around that area. On the other hand, if you do care about motion controls and rumble, you can compromise by using one of the joycons on one end while using one split pad on the other.
