Just got this not long after getting a switch bc my thumbs got sore from playing with regular joy cons. These are perfect for me especially since I really only play in handheld mode
Why won’t mine work from the Lock Screen? Seems the screen has to be showing something for them to work. Super annoying how you can’t wake the switch up with them or is it just me having trouble?
Not just you. I show that in this vid. It seems like they will wake the Switch up if you’ve recently turned your Switch off but once it’s been a little while, nothing happens. Definitely happens because these aren’t independently powered. Thanks for watching!
Rather just use the SkullNCo grips if the issue is going from dock to handheld while having satisfactory ergonomics. Hori’s biggest deal is the D-pad and the procon-like sticks, which are nice for games that intensively use them like MC dungeons and Daemon x machina. The lack of motion, rumble and wireless feels like a rather big drawback to me, the protective “legs” in the back of the split pads where one of the screws are at also are kinda deal breaker for some that have those protective shells for their switch main units, as most would wrap around or grip the top of the main unit around that area. On the other hand, if you do care about motion controls and rumble, you can compromise by using one of the joycons on one end while using one split pad on the other.
at 11:51 it looks as though there's battery meter LEDs as well as L & R buttons on the rail side of the controller, this makes me think it is a different version of the controller where it has wireless connectivity and they used the same housing, does anyone know ?
Haha me too man! I unfortunately ignore it a lot of the time. But to answer your question, no, there’s no light around the home button so the alarm won’t work. So many people don’t even know that light is there on the joy-con. Thanks for watching!

Hey mate, had a question for you. Just bought these and mine seem to have a fairly large deadzone on the thumb sticks. I.e. it takes a bit of movement of the thumbstick before it registers, which is particularly noticeable in the menus. Do you find this issue with yours? Or is your movement instant from the moment you move the thumbstick? Thanks!
Sorry for the late response. I haven't really experienced any dead zones with mine, but I have seen others mention that. It might help to try recalibrating the sticks in the Switch menu, but I don't know if you'd have to do that every time you disconnect them from the Switch. Thanks for watching!
I just don't understand. You can argueably get away with no amiibo support, no rumble and maybe even know wireless. Got it for $40 at amazon. It feels perfect for control feel if you dont care about exrta feature. Love it so far. I just hated original controllers flliping out of screen and those fukn analog stick driftn
Ya the joycons would cramp my hands and 2 pair after like year of barely using would stop recognizing one or other joycon is connected to switch mid game so far no issues with that from the split pad pro
Just ordered mine as well, hopefully it’ll be great for me since my left joycon has a stupid amount of drift and the L button is unresponsive as hell which is EXTREMELY bad for BOTW and Monster Hunter, sending it to be repaired as I receive this by Tuesday
@@hit9819 i was able to fix the drift by spraying wd40 but it always cameback so I got tired of it. This feels much better than joycon in hand, enjoy it!
My daughter has a Nintendo Switch Lite and she has Multiple Game Cartridges..will she b able to use them for this System..or does it only come with games already built in if so I'll just get her another Nintendo Switch Lite
it's just contoller for switch, no game comes with it. It won't work with switch lite cause controllers non detatchable on lite.@@Smoovmoney1979
I'm a little late, but these dont fit with most switch with snapped on case. I had the deamon x machina, and I won't fit unless I take off the case. The legs on the pads is design to perfectly fit/support the back of the switch. Anything that made the switch slightly thicker will prevent the pads from slide in all the way.
That’s a good point, hadn’t thought about cases that just go around the Switch tablet. Thanks for watching!
I know this might sound dumb but can you play it detached?
Like take off the controller and give one to your friend to plat smash or mario kart?
Nah that’s not dumb. Unfortunately these won’t work detached since there’s no battery inside. They only work when connected to the Switch. Thanks for watching!
@@NeiltendoPower oh ok, thank you!
How do you get your split pads controller connect to the switch because my left one doesn’t connect suddenly
They must be connected to the actual tablet, they will not work wirelessly.
I want this because my switch has drift issues
if u have drift isuees use rubbing accihol it willl help
@@Oatway still that is only a small fix it wont last forever
I turn rumble off Xbox and everything else I use a controller on, it actually effects your accuracy alot especially in fast paced games like Fortnite or Cod.
THANK YOU!!! Have been having the same issue with them not waking the device from a locked screen and was worried I was the only one. Guess that’s just how they are. Got them so I wouldn’t have to keep scratching up my new white joycons on my oled
I wish the macros could both use the d pad for left and right buttons
That would be nice
I'll be completely honest, the reason I want these is because I absolutely love the blue color
I really enjoyed this review, really helped me decide whether to buy this. well done 👏🏼
If youre curious, I decided to buy
Cool! How are they?
@@Night_Rider83 sry for the late reply - they are great! Makes the switch into a real gaming device.. if you find the Switch controllers too small then you will love the HORI split pad
@@wakkowarner9522 No worries! I actually got it for my birthday a few months ago and it's brilliant!
if they add motion controls, this would be a buy for me..
What do you need motion controls for? What functions
@@TheAssassinscreed91 certain games use motion controls
@@vitalirogel5938 Honestly the only game that it would suck for me is Mario Party, so I could get my joycons for that, and I don't play Mario Party too much so it's good for me
@@secretshadow9515 honestly the lack of rumble is a bummer for me. The motion controls are only good for certain games some of which aren’t worth playingn
Just got this not long after getting a switch bc my thumbs got sore from playing with regular joy cons. These are perfect for me especially since I really only play in handheld mode
I need help with this
Why won’t mine work from the Lock Screen?
Agreed!
at 11:51 it looks as though there's battery meter LEDs as well as L & R buttons on the rail side of the controller, this makes me think it is a different version of the controller where it has wireless connectivity and they used the same housing, does anyone know ?
No
A really helpful video, helps me decide to buy it or not. Thank you!
Great review, thank you!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching!
@@NeiltendoPower Absolutely, I have ordered one yesterday. :)
I have an alarm that goes off everyday to play ring fit will the home button light up just like my joy cons do ?
Haha me too man! I unfortunately ignore it a lot of the time. But to answer your question, no, there’s no light around the home button so the alarm won’t work. So many people don’t even know that light is there on the joy-con. Thanks for watching!
Neiltendo Power damn I ordered one today well atleast I won’t feel bad about ignoring my work out so much now 😅 thanks for the vid though very informative can’t wait to play smash ultimate with these
it has a downside nobody talks about, and it's important. Being bigger than joycons make them act as a more powerful lever when certain buttons (D-pad and Y, mostly) are pressed, which may damage Switch rails in the long run.
I love the d-pad on these. Very accurate and a nice feel to it. 100 times better than the shitty d-pad on the pro controller.
You can still buy the original one on Amazon new.
Currently you can’t!!! I’m trying to get one!!! No one has them anywhere
@@switchunboxing I got DaemonXMachina version like 2 months ago v:
@@Addstral Unfortunately that was the only design available at that time. I’m glad to see them making more variations!
@@switchunboxing there is one that is black with gold pikachu sillouette, and another green with pink eeve and pikachu sillouette. They are like 100 usd though. Still, So beautiful if prices drop I will get another one.
@@richyroa Yeah that’s funny I just put up my review of those yesterday here on my channel!
Hey cool review!! how is the split pad pro when it comes to Slide scrolling platform games? i like playing switch on tv but my controller i use has a very stiff d pad. I know you said it was mushy feeling but is it mushy like a GBA/ SNES or mushy like a cheap piece of crap
One of my siblings broke my right joycon (there are bite marks on it wtf) and the left one drifts so I might just get this for handheld mode since I already have a pro controller
My joy cons drift like hell, it's really bad. Especially with Animal Crossing. Probably gonna get the Split Pad Pro too
@@Night_Rider83 I just got it and it’s pretty comfortable, the buttons aren’t bad either. As a handheld-only controller I’d say it’s worth it. The only flaw is that clicking in the joysticks is a little weird when they’re touching the outer ring
@@bradyp634 Whatever I need to be free of drift, I'm going for it.
These seem to be a good option if you actually want to use the switch in handheld mode. I find that using the right buttons cause me to hit the bottom stick too often
Cool review, just placed my order. My wrists started hurting when I play first person shooters on the switch. Hopefully this will help
This is great for shooters & RPGs on the Switch!
How does a split pad pro work when it comes to its durability on the track is it wobbly?
Just got one today, its awesome. I wish it had rumble, but I can live with out it.
Hmmm... I was thinking of getting this for repeating crouching in Smash Ultimate to earn coins without doing anything. Does the turbo button work with control stick movements?
When I got these I was sad to see motion control and rumble to go but after a while it’s completely fine
I wasn’t too mad about amiibo cause I could just get my other joy con and attach that for 20 seconds
the comfort and the turbo/programmable buttons make it worth the purchase
Ok 2 years late but I just got these and wow they are amazing! For me there’s no mushy feeling and I hate gyro aiming they only con? I got these for 80$ yeah… bad price but good joy cons!
I honestly just got this to protect my Animal Crossing Joycons from drifting. I know i'm gonna abuse whatever controller is gonna be on my switch for Monster Hunter: Rise
Why you gotta abuse your controllers man?
Haha same man. Been playing rise for the last week on my default joycons. I need to get something like this
Yooo exactly same here
Same hahaha
Update: I actually bought one of these last week and it works great!
I just subbed! You're underrated man!😉😉😉😉
My 43 year old hands cramp with the original joycons so I'm hoping these will help with comfort?
Is it responsive like joycons? Or is it have a little bit of input lag? Hope you answer
As far as I can tell, the response is just as good as regular joy-con. These aren’t bluetooth so they only work when connected directly to the Switch. Hope that helps answer your question and thanks for watching!
@@NeiltendoPower thanks for the reply. Yep i did not like bluetooth.. because of the input lag.. and the usb dock and usb of switch it self is slow.. more lag using wired that bluetooth. The switch console is a great console but also a let down due to the input lag.
do they make high quality joy cons with this kind of shape?
This is better than the real joycons. I have a pair I got them a few months back and there is no drift. When I play animal crossing it is so much better than my splatoon joycons.
Do they drift?
I haven’t experienced any drift with mine
Do they drift
No.
@@Night_Rider83 thanks I just got some now I hate drift and these will be perfect I played docked mode since day one because of drifting joycons now I can play portably finally
@@Cinder896 I know, drift is a real pain in the ass. It kills one of the biggest features of the Switch, being a portable console.
@@Night_Rider83 dude these are amazing
Does this controller creak or wobble like the original joycons?
I haven’t really experienced any creaking, but they do have a little bit of give, especially since they’re so wide
I have ocd so i just want my ORIGINAL joycons on at all times
Same. At first. But then I guess I kinda warmed up to other options, at least the officially licenced ones.
I got this because I have major joycon drift, and these sticks don’t allow drift.
But does it not have drift?
I haven’t experienced any drift with mine. The analog sticks on the split pad pro are the biggest improvement over the joy-con in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
@@NeiltendoPower ok thanks
@@NeiltendoPower well, I finally got it and it's pretty good. All I saw was the red version, but it's alright since red is my favorite color.
Can't find this blue one anywhere.
Just want to let everyone know, If you're playing Botw there are some Shrines that you cant use this Gamepad with. FYI. other than that they are coo.
The gyroscope shrines
I just don't understand. You can argueably get away with no amiibo support, no rumble and maybe even know wireless. But the gyro is essential to play certain games there's several puzzles in breath of the wild that don't even let you pass them without gyro. If it had at least that these would be a no-brainer for me.
Yeah these would be waaay more compelling to me if they featured rumble/gyro
Can you turn it on with the home button?
You can, but it’s definitely a little touchy. If the Switch has been off for a while it won’t work. I show it in the video at some point
Satisfye grips gives my hand a cramp after a while, so I was hoping the split pad would avoid that issue of mine
Yeah me too. After like only an hour.
That sucks to hear..would imagine satisfye grips were made to avoid cramps from long game time
@@harimakenji7608 I honestly think it's the weight of the switch just gets to your hands over time. Cuz it is very comfortable.
@@ryansmelly i still can't decide which grip to get. Satisfye grips are like $45 here in Australia on Amazon and for the kit with the satisfye case it's a whopping $85
@@harimakenji7608 yeah I don't have a case for mine just the grip it was like 35 dollars here in the US. I haven't gotten this hori split pad but I did got the binbok 3rd party one. It was really cool but I got joystick drift with it within a week. But if you disconnect it and connect it back it works fine for a while. People also say this was a problem with them straight out of the box. But others say it worked fine. I really wanna recommend that to you but I can't because of that. Lol.
My biggest concern is that if the Switch Pad pro doesn't suffer from Input lag when Undocked
Doesn't the Switch itself have gyro? Or do gyro controls primarily rely on the Joy Cons' gyro in handheld mode? Also, are there any carry cases designed for the split pad pro?
They had the red and black one in my walmart basically since it released and they still have the same ones in stock lol
At my local Target too lmao, these things don’t sell at retailers.
It's unfortunate that many games that I actively play make use of the gyro and HD rumble. While this looks great I personally still go with the Satysfye grip.
YOU GOT THIS WITH SCREEN
No, it doesn't come with the screen. The screen is a separate product.
