The OM-2n was the first camera I bought new and I still have it today. I bought after a couple of years as a newspaper photographer. I was issued a really trashed OM-1 and I liked it so well I had to buy the OM-2n.

Really liked my OM1. I kept the 28mm Zuiko Lens and its now permanently on my Fujifilm X-E1. The pictures are fantastic compared to cheaper modern lenses.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Paul, my first camera was an OM1n an absolute beauty too. I now own an OM2n with a 50 1.4 as my main film camera which sits next to my Leica in the bag and gets used just as much, maybe a little bit more. They don’t make them like that anymore !

Great video, Paul. I pair my 1.4 with an Om1 and I use the 35-70 f3.6 on my OM 2n. Love them.

The feel of the OM2 is kind of jewel like. I think it's the combo of compact size and the really nice feel of the focussing ring on OM lenses. Only downside is that it's limited to 1/1000s. Back in the day I remember lusting after these in photography magazines when it was way out of my price range. It's such a great looking camera.

Nice Paul, the Olympus OM2n is my go to camera and just love this camera above all other cameras I have owned film and digital. The simplicity of operation and the restriction of only having one lens with you 50mm is just so much fun.

Always wanted to try one of those. I was given an OM-10 a while ago and I really like that one. Plus most or all of those old Zuiko prime lenses are generally really good optically. They sure know how to make good lenses, even the tiny little XA rangefinder has one of the best lenses I've ever tried.

  • @markharris5771

I bought an OM10 a few years ago because of the 6 Zuiko Lenses that went with it. I meant to upgrade the camera, but it takes such good images I never bothered. I also really like the idiosyncrasies of the shutter speed attachment and I have a thing about cameras that shouldn’t be as good as they are. I keep it as my 'colour' 35mm set up because I have such a good selection of lenses, but I only shoot about 2 rolls a year.
You’ve now whetted my desire to upgrade again, but I think I’ll buy a digital Olympus and lens converter.
    Another great video thanks.

    Greetings, mr. Smith.
T.y. for your neat videos. The Oly. OM-system started in 1972 when it was presented at Photokina, under the initial, M, for the last name of the gent. behind the new system. It was a response to Leica at the time, but in an SLR-package, rather than a rangefinder. The first OM-1, was named M1. I have one I purchased via eBay, shipped from Japan. You should count on that all M1's are in Japan, at least mostly. All M1's I've seen on eBay are from Japan, meaning one has to pay customs, which I was wiling to, and did. Due to the emminent lawsuit by Leica, Oly. seized the producton of all products onder the M-name, and had to rename it. Approx 5.000 M1's were already produced. I don't know how many lenses and other things were produced with the M-name, but no M-produc was ever exported out of Japan.
My M1, is one with a red re-skin, and might be the only existing with this skin, and wear. I have with my Oly. PEN-F taken a sensorshift-HDR of my M1, you would perhaps have interest in seeing. You can let me know via a response to this comment.
    Good day to you.

Totally agree Paul, OM's are awesome! That damped shutter sound is great huh?! I've got an OM1 and an OM4 at home, same 50mm 1.4, a 35, 28 and 135. I've had an om2n also and the best thing about them compared to the OM1 is that we can put regular 1.5v batteries in them! Can't go wrong, an iconic camera used by many well known photographers.

I just found your video on the OM2n, you underestimate yourself. I have subscribed and now I have lots of stuff to watch. Cheers! As for inspiration, many ask me who I look up to and try to emulate. I know this might sound arrogant or something like that, but my answer is nobody. I shoot for me and my style of shooting. I do enjoy looking at the greats who came before me.I don't try to emulate anybody, because after all, it has been done already. I even have a history of photography page on my website.

Good stuff Paul .. Yer, the weather has been a bit miserable out their & the worst is yet to come my friend.
A great time to get some of that editing done that seems to always get put on the back burner & look at all the new ( Goodies ) coming out, with the latest this & the latest that, .. where i suppose it does get to a stage of ? ... how much cameras & gear do you need ... Lol !! . I mentioned a while ago that i was considering getting a better camera, but i'm actually finding that i don,t use all the cameras that i have got .. i think around 7 going' & about about 6 deceased ones sitting up on the office shelf like a War Memorial Museum !! ... finding i'm having a few issues with Adobe Pr crashing a lot lately ... don,t know if you have the same problems from time to time as in not responding ? However, i suppose the joy's of new technology. Keep that fire cranked & keep warm !!

    Great shots.
The best pictures I took were with a OM 2n and their 24 mm f2 lens. It just works feels good in my large hands surprisingly; the ads back then were right. Good metering as I only use to take positive (slide) film with it. Only thing is the viewfinder spoiled me, bright and accurate no DSL came close. My regret was not getting the 40mm and 100 f2 lens when they were first released, might be to expensive now for me.

Thanks to the legendary designer Mr. Yoshihisa Maitani, the shutter speed ring located in front of the camera was peculiar and fantastic design, and I loved that. I wish Olympus would do the same with their digital cameras too. I had OM 1, 2n, and 4 during the 80's and 90's. I guess, OM D M10 gives pretty close feeling of using an OM2n. At least, this is my impression with M10mk2. All of the OM series film cameras were great cameras. And, Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 lens was one of the best comrades of those cameras.

Always liked the OM series, but gravitated to Pentax primarily because I have dinner plates for hands. Plus back in the day it was cool to be a Pentax owner.

As I am sure you know Olympus is an off-shoot from Contax, Hence the good lenses. I never could get into the Olympus cameras but I know several really great photographers that also love them. Cameras are tools and any tool that fits your hands right are always the best tool. Just keep putting out the great work Paul. I suspect you can do nice work with any tool that offers a control of apeture, shutter speed, and ISO.

    • @neilmorgan6620

@tony aldridge - ? Contax began as a Zeis Ikon model in 1932 and was eventually produced by Kyocera, I do not know of, and cannot find, any relationship between Contax and Olympus - which was formed in 1919 and produced cameras from 1936. Can you provide a citation for your claim? I’m interested to find out about any link between the two.

    What makes a great camera?
    1. Range of good lenses that accept.
    2. Shutter speed, 1/8000 is a must.
    3. Viewfinder, 100% is a must.
    4. Easyness in changing setings.
What camera I like is another question.
(English is foreign language for me so is poor :-))
