Is the 'Up to speed' series coming back? I really miss it, and it is the series that got me into donut media and more into cars. I learned a lot thanks to it and i've been wondering where it went. God bless you James and Nolan and all the other people at donut

So ...SO wrong on the charger my man...we built our own hemi. The 265 hemi with 3 side draft Webbers. it was the charger R/T E49 and packed way more power than the v8 model, it had 303BHP for it's 4.3L inline 6 and a 4 speed manual. It's extremely sought after today.
This comment needs more likes. The E49 is a beast and highly underrated in Australia despite a highly successful racing career, especially in New Zealand. Also, they showed a 4 door Valiant Pacer for most of it.

Those kinds of small trucks like chevy Montana (here in Brazil we call it "picapes", a derivative pronunciation of pick-up trucks) are really common around cities here, big trucks are a little rare and there's a variety of kinds of these small ones like Fiat Strada and VW Saveiro

Yes James, us Australian's would call the Chevy Montana a ute. Also, in regards to the Ford Falcon, they had a few engine options, a V8 version, as stated & a straight 6, in 2002 Ford Australia decided to put a turbo on the straight 6 (its called a Barra), they are insane engines, people are making HP figures above 600+ on stock internals, minus an oil gear pump & valve assembly upgrade.

In the USA during 2017 and 2018, if you picked up a brochure for a Honda Pilot, you would see in the brochure a photo of a dashboard control that power folded the exterior rear view mirrors. Next to the photo was a disclaimer that the feature was "only available in certain models". My wife bought the "Elite" model which was the highest end trim with very few options available. Not one of those options contained the folding mirrors. Seems the only models that had this feature were only available in Canada. Not only that, but the wiring harness was so different between the two countries that it could not be easily retrofitted.

There were rumours that the true figures were closer to 400hp. You also missed a handful of other Falcons from the 70’s. The XA, XB and XC coupes were some of the sexiest cars to ever be produced. There was even a still born. A GTHO, only 4 were made

I've owned three Falcon V8's 67 Fairmont XR, 1968 XT and now i have a XC GS Rally Pack 1978. All have been ball tearing speed machines. Some Holden's have been up there with the power but have handling issues along with poor braking.
Cortinas were sold in the US at least for 67 and 68. My Father bought a 67 in Wichita. When I took it to school I met a kid that had a 68. The only 2 Cortinas I have ever laid eyes on.

I’m a Aussie too and I can clarify that the GTHO stands for grand touring with handling option but they where originally going to make the ho stand for high output but the suits at ford were like “hey we can’t make a car with that much power kids are gonna buy these cars and wrap them around poles” so they just made it stand for handing option

The XY Falcon GTHO (orange one shown in vid) is waaaay more famous in Australia than the XB. Its THE car everyone here thinks of when Aussie Muscle is mentioned.

The E49 Charger R/T with the 265 Hemi is the Valiant I want ;-) . The Phase 3 GTHO was reportedly the fastest 4-door in the world at the time, good for 140mph from a 4-speed, and those power figures are said to be more like 385hp, but they downplayed it for "social and political responsibility". So much history.
in brazil we actually have a very hot “truckito” market where chevy and fiat basically dominate everything. In the countryside, if they need heavy duty stuff done they’ll use somewhat of semi trucks but if they need something that’s not that big of a scale to be done quickly they’ll use a little truck like the montana and for that they became pretty popular even in the city. I guess brazilian people like having the practicality of a truck but don’t need those big trucks with bad mileage like the f150. Ah the Calibra! I absolutely love these cars, I grew up around them in the early-late 2000s as my dad has had a Calibra Turbo 4x4 since 2000. Genuinely beautiful cars that are becoming rarer by the year, partially due to rust issues.
If by “ute”, you mean a coupe utility, then the Montana is absolutely a ute. It’s a pickup based on a car (in this case, the Agile). It’s not built on a truck chassis, and it’s not based on a crossover (like the Honda Ridgeline or Hyundai Santa Fe). The doors and front clip are all Agile. It’s unquestionably a coupe utility. The thing is, many Australians today call any pickup a “ute”, even traditional trucks like the Toyota Hilux and Ford F-250. To them, it’s not a specific body style but a catchall term that describes anything with a bed (or tray, as they call it).
Sorry, but you're not entirely correct about what we Aussies call a ute. I should know, I own a 4wd ute/twin cab, and live in the outback. A true ute is usually a 2wd utility bodied vehicle based on a 4 door car, such as a commodore or falcon. This is what we exclusively call a ute. A Hilux or Navara you would call a ute, or a twin cab, or 4wd, or even some people would call it a truck. An F250 a ute or a truck. A tray back you would call a tray or a ute.

I grew with my parents owning multiple Sierra Cosworths I remember my dad had a late 4x4 drive version with about 450bhp! I loved getting picked up from school in them, really turnt some heads. There very expensive and rare to own or see on the road now.

The Calibra was an awesome car with tech way ahead of its time. Rebadged multiple times, South America is was Chevy, UK a Vauxhall, South Africa and Germany an Opel and in Australia it was a Holden. Also there was a Ford Sierra XR8 that was only built for South Africa, 250 were made with the same V8 as the Detomaso Pantera.
id also be tempted to add the lotus cortina (which is a ford) and the lotus carlton (which is a Vauxhall/Opel/gm) that think for its time was insane. and if homologation specials are allowed the ford rs200
Ian Stockings, who did most of the engineering work on the Phase II, III and IV GTHOs, said in a 1983 letter "I did find some old dynamometer test sheets from the engine tests I ran on the 1971 Alan Moffat and John French race engines just prior to the 1971 Bathurst race. Those engines produced 370 brake horsepower at 6000rpm." These engines had the $250 QC (quality control) option. This meant your engine was blue printed by Ford Works Race Team mechanics.

@@mitchellbaker4847 the hemi 6 didn't start out as a 215, the yanks originally designed it as a 4 litre (245) but chickened out in favour of a v8 for a base truck motor. The yanks told us it wouldn't handle boring bigger, but the 265 is not the same casting as the 245 so no problem there.

...SO wrong on the charger my man...we built our own hemi. The 265 hemi with 3 side draft Webbers. it was the charger R/T E49 and packed way more power than the v8 model, it had 303BHP for it's 4.3L inline 6 and a 4 speed manual. It's extremely sought after today.

Also, in regards to the Ford Falcon, they had a few engine options, a V8 version, as stated & a straight 6, in 2002 Ford Australia decided to put a turbo on the straight 6 (its called a Barra), they are insane engines, people are making HP figures above 600+ on stock internals, minus an oil gear pump & valve assembly upgrade.

In the USA during 2017 and 2018, if you picked up a brochure for a Honda Pilot, you would see in the brochure a photo of a dashboard control that power folded the exterior rear view mirrors. Next to the photo was a disclaimer that the feature was "only available in certain models".
My wife bought the "Elite" model which was the highest end trim with very few options available. Not one of those options contained the folding mirrors.
Seems the only models that had this feature were only available in Canada. Not only that, but the wiring harness was so different between the two countries that it could not be easily retrofitted.

All have been ball tearing speed machines.

I’m a Aussie too and I can clarify that the GTHO stands for grand touring with handling option but they where originally going to make the ho stand for high output but the suits at ford were like “hey we can’t make a car with that much power kids are gonna buy these cars and wrap them around poles” so they just made it stand for handing option

in brazil we actually have a very hot “truckito” market where chevy and fiat basically dominate everything. In the countryside, if they need heavy duty stuff done they’ll use somewhat of semi trucks but if they need something that’s not that big of a scale to be done quickly they’ll use a little truck like the montana and for that they became pretty popular even in the city. I guess brazilian people like having the practicality of a truck but don’t need those big trucks with bad mileage like the f150. If by “ute”, you mean a coupe utility, then the Montana is absolutely a ute. It’s a pickup based on a car (in this case, the Agile). It’s not built on a truck chassis, and it’s not based on a crossover (like the Honda Ridgeline or Hyundai Santa Fe). The doors and front clip are all Agile. It’s unquestionably a coupe utility.
The thing is, many Australians today call any pickup a “ute”, even traditional trucks like the Toyota Hilux and Ford F-250. To them, it’s not a specific body style but a catchall term that describes anything with a bed (or tray, as they call it).

A true ute is usually a 2wd utility bodied vehicle based on a 4 door car, such as a commodore or falcon. This is what we exclusively call a ute.
A Hilux or Navara you would call a ute, or a twin cab, or 4wd, or even some people would call it a truck.
An F250 a ute or a truck.
A tray back you would call a tray or a ute.

The Calibra was an awesome car with tech way ahead of its time. Rebadged multiple times, South America is was Chevy, UK a Vauxhall, South Africa and Germany an Opel and in Australia it was a Holden.
Also there was a Ford Sierra XR8 that was only built for South Africa, 250 were made with the same V8 as the Detomaso Pantera.

Those engines produced 370 brake horsepower at 6000rpm." These engines had the $250 QC (quality control) option. This meant your engine was blue printed by Ford Works Race Team mechanics.
