Hey Donut, Model T guy, here. $6,000 for a 1927 Roadster sounds about right. People don't buy Model T's for their engine, they buy it for the experience of owning a simple machine. I also found listing the engine specs amusing, because to Model T people, all that matters is if it has an original Model T engine in it. Max: * lists the cubic inch displacement of the Model T * Me: * *laughs in tolerances that made the displacement range from 2.7 liters to 3 liters* *
I have been wanting one to go around town in and do some light off-road stuff. I live in an old time mill town and can’t believe nobody rides one down Main Street.
uh old cars before they're classics no but something like a frame off restored 1974 Chevelle SS 454 yeah as the Chevelle was discontinued in 1977 base MSRP for the SS in 1974 was 4,500 which is equivalent to $29,000 dollars in 2025 money around the same as a new Toyota Camry LE Gas model mind you an American midsize car like the Chevelle had a 20 gallon fuel tank in those days and gas was cheap and plentiful 34 cents a gallon for regular and 36 cents a gallon for premium so it cost around $7.00 to fill the tank where as it would cost nearly 80 bucks to fill that same tank now and around 4,100 for the year where as to fill a Hybrid only 2025 Toyota Camry it costs about 2,100 per year as that has a fuel capacity nearly 7 gallons smaller and weighs between 200 and 350 LBs less than the Chevelle
Yeah. Now it's the '80s and '90s cars that are spiking in value as the Gen Xers and milennials start snapping them up. I had a third-generation Camaro I bought in 2018. Low miles, great inerior, paint was shot but it ran great and I paid $6500. An equivalent car today sells for twice that. In a few years IROCs will be regularly selling for over $20K, and clean low-mileage cars will be over $30K. When I was in college you could get a reasonably nice one for $1500 and a case of Bud Light. I'm glad I got the chance to own my dream car before they got super-expensive.
More importantly, their retirement accounts aren't keeping up with inflation. All the boomers that didn't catch the coke train in the 80s are struggling financially now, and are becoming unhoused at an alarming rate.
Classic Cars are tied emotionaly to there demographic. No one outside of bomers wants a 57 caddy or. Bel air. Are they cool sure but I'm not wanting to pay 80k for one and maintain it.
Where I'm at it's 25 years, and when I go to renew my registration I'm gonna try and get historic plates for my truck. Saying 1999 is old still doesn't feel right
For those of you younger cats playing at home, this is what is known as the Model T syndrome. As an early 80s baby, I remember when model T's were insanely expensive, even after coming down from the 70s all time high. A stock model T can be had for 3 pistachio shells and pocket lint. Why? The people that were paying big money for them, and the ones relevant, aren't alive anymore. Terry, Phil, and Steve are all dying off, and Stetson, Neveah and Paxton don't care for clutches, carburetors and bias plies. I'm not saying there are no muscle car fans anymore, I'm saying there's not enough to necessitate driving the value up.
You're right about the boomers, but I'm gonna be honest with you I don't want classics to be cheap because if they're too cheap, people won't preserve them as much... on the other hand, new cars should be cheaper.
Thank Mecum and Barrett Jackson for the price hike. Everyone thought their cars were made out of gold bricks for a while there. This is great to see if you not trying to flip them and just wanna have fun with them.
I'm 40 years old and have a 1970 Chevelle Malibu that I do nearly all the work on from maintenance to a Tremec TKX swap. I can tell you the majority of guys my age and younger do not know anything about working on cars old or new. I live in a HOA and the looks I get when I have my garage open working on my car is hilarious. Same thing last week when I had to put new calipers, rotors, and pads on the back of my 2015 Silverado 1500. All the car guys I hang out with are 50+ up into their 70's.
Yeah but tbf for a lot it's just not possible to work on their car and gain actual practical knowledge. I'm 25 from central europe in a 2 mil people city, i don't have a garden in my 4th floor apartment that I could put my car on, let alone a personal garage and thats the case for a lot of carpeople nowdays. If I put a car lift on my apartment garage spot they're gonna ask me if someone shat in my head 😁 I still try to do everything I can do myself on my beloved summer car which is a 2002 Alfa Romeo 156 sedan with facelift Momo interior and pre-facelift exterior
Boomers truly fucking ruined everything didn't they? Classic cars were affordable, homes were affordable, jobs paid ok. Boomers came in and fucked up everything.
I am not surprised. I walked Barrett Jackson when it happened a few weeks ago and the number of classic American cars was huge. Maybe it always is but we didn't walk the whole thing. Once you see the 20 late 60s or 70s Mustangs, Camaros, yatta yatta, you have seen them all.
When I bought my 1936 MG 2 litre I went to the garage in Hull, UK and the upholster said to me "Being a young man at your age, why are you interested in such cars?" So I replied to her: "Y'know back in my country you have a lot of supercars that cost millions but you can't import classic cars. So that's something hard to find. But the funny thing is when you drive this and park it amongst a group of modern expensive cars, people will either see your car as "Pretty" or "Weird" but hey they'll look anyway because it's so out of place and time!" We laughed XD Also massive respect to you Nolan, keep going :)
No. The final white number on the right is tenths of a mile not a whole mile. Nearly all older vehicles only had 5 digit numbers for whole miles with the tenths of a mile counter on the right.
I believe that during 2020 to 23 or 24 we reached the peak of the market to every car, and now the after party has passed. So now the prices are going down and I believe they will go down more, at least for a while.
The folks who grew up coveting these, and spent money on them in their prime, are now past the time that they will spend money on similar cars. Their fans are just aging out. Who today wants, or even knows, a Hudson?
As I’m approaching half a century here on this planet, I am realizing I could very well be keeping my low mileage S197 Mustang for the next 30 years (assuming I’m around). It’s 19 years old, but feels more like a relic of the past every year. It’s going to go to classic status, then winga-dinga. 😂 And when I bought it, I figured I’d enjoy it a few years and get something else. Back in the mid 80’s, in the foxbody days, I’d pine over vintage 60’s Mustangs. 20 year old cars back then. And now that my car is near 20 years old, I can’t believe the difference 20 years makes now compared to then. But just being alive and in to cars in the 80’s makes me OLD these days! 😅. “Tell us about the dinosaurs, grandpa!”
Antique tractors follow the same wave. Steam engines used to be insanely valuable, and then people realized having something that’s almost impossible to move around and you have to chuck coal into is not enjoyable. Now the 1920’s stuff is dropping, and the 1950’s stuff seems to be peaking, anything newer than that can still be used
Funny, I was browsing a few European sites, including a German one, and I was surprised at how cheap old cars are over there. I saw a few very nice MG TFs for $2,500 nearby in Netherlands. A Mazda Miata in similar shape here would be at least triple that if not more. Same goes for old FIATs, Skodas, Volkswagens, and Opels. They're like less than half a similar old Ford, Chevrolet, or Dodge here, at least in my area.
My grandfather had a model T and when he died I had a hell of a time selling it. Nobody wants these anymore and many will just go back in garages and rot away.
I kind of want to annoy some people by asking for a build series of modernising Model T (modern engine with modern systems, maybe modern wheels and tires, and then my idea falls apart from here)
I believe that older or boomers cars are getting cheaper because tech is becoming lost(less parts, less mechanics=more complexities). Thus people are avoiding some of them because they wouldn't care for it properly. Some of them are going to straight up in value though
The people who grew up with those cars, and most desire them, are going to nursing homes and cemetaries. And their families don't care about Pawpaw's old car. So they go up for sale just to get rid of them and get a little extra cash to cover final expenses/medical debt.
Part of the price decrease is demographics, the people who drove the prices up are now not as numerous as they used to be. Basically, what caused the prices go up and up, is not as present any more (can you tell I'm trying really hard not to be morbid?). Obviously doesn't explain all of it, but yeah that's definitely going to be a factor. Also, when did Nolan get good at guessing prices?

Great to see the MGA! I have a field find coupe in the garage right now, doing a full supercharged 3800 hot rod-esque rebuild! It’s great because they’re not worth much and cost a ton for parts 😂
The Hornet sold for 9K because it's a four door post car, if it were a two door in those conditions I can see it go for 20/25K easy. Remember that these cars cater to the kustom car crowd the most, and we like hard tops, 2/4 doors, or in this case two doors, as older cars all had posts/B pillars, in both two or four doors form. Post cars can definitely be cool though, don't get me wrong, I've had a couple myself, but they'll always be cheaper and I hope it stays that way, as some of my favorite cars are four doors, 30s four door sedans are imo some of the most beutiful, and so are 60s/70s four door hard tops. The Barracuda is not "made to look like something", it's a 440 with a 4 speed on a racing chassis, what the fk are you talking about? The ignorance is strong here.. kids these days 😤
They are just returning to market price. However, there are actual classic cars that will never be disputed. A 55 Chevy is a boomer car and it may go down in price but it's NEVER not going to be a collector car by any generation: a 68 Mustang GT500, a MK4 Supra, or a 2023 Hellcat are all examples of cars that will forever be etched in history.
I have a 1969 Camaro that’s in great condition and was affordable. Has a 350 sbc. As long as it’s not number matching or pro touring they are affordable.
All the people that collected and hoarded these cars for years are dying off. There will be many many more cars coming available over the next 20 years. Look up Sumner Nebraska car collection from 3 years ago for the biggest local one so far.
Justin has a huge lack of knowledge on old mopars and just because he don't know shit about them doesn't mean anyone is tired of them. All old cars are overvalued and seeing everything come down is great for all car enthusiasts.
Its nice to see that prices are going back to normal after the pandemic but I'm gonna be honest, I don't want to see any classic car get CHEAP cheap ever. Because if they ever get too cheap people (no matter the age) won't take care of them as much as they deserve... won't preserve them for the future generation (even the boring cars). On the other hand, new cars should be in fact cheaper!
If that ever effects the Dodge Charger... who am I kidding? So long as F&F's running, there ain't gonna be any decent Chargers out there. Last two ones I found were not even 440s and even less 426s and still cost over 120.000 Euros. But I do have to say, my near perfect 1976 Oldsmobile 98 only cost 12.000 Euros, and that's a lotta car and a lotta comfort, and that's in Europe, too.
These classic muscle cars are insanely expensive, it never should have been that way. A 1967 gt 500 may look awesome, but it shouldn't be going for over 150k, especially when newer, more powerful, better performing Shelby mustangs are 50-80 grand all day long. Heritage matters, but not to the degree we've seen in classic cars over the last 10 years or so.
Sadly i haven't seen the prices drop much yet where im at. Especially not the late 60s early 70s muscle cars. Other stuff maybe a little, but well known classics even non car people know about still seem to be very pricey.
Hey can we get a T-shirt with Nolan's face, a gasser doing a fat burnout and text saying Hell ya. Do it in that funky cartoon style where they overexagerate features

Sick dude
No
Did you like that
Great to see the MGA! I have a field find coupe in the garage right now, doing a full supercharged 3800 hot rod-esque rebuild! It’s great because they’re not worth much and cost a ton for parts 😂
That Camaro needs to be brought back to life!!!
Turns out nostalgia only drives up prices of stuff until the generation that desires that stuff starts dying.
This clip changed my perspective on this!
Nolan's Spidey-Sense this video was insane
Vim wiki made a post of unobtainable race cars selling for millions, and Donut follows up with a banger
Thank you for sharing this, very helpful!
@2:00 Who else knew that that car is called the Hudson Hornet because of Disney's Cars? 😁😁
The nostalgia price is aging out, it happens to every generation, initially devalues then nostalgia props it up for 20 years then goes back down
They’re getting cheaper because of economic downturn.
Yep,boomers despise sedans/wagons for some reason
“The hornet isn’t even a V8” obviously she doesn’t know anything about them 😂 twin h power was crushing V8s for a a few years 😅
What does Justin know!? I'm a Brit and I have a triumph! Probably worth about £800! 😂😂😂
Now I’m waiting for C7’s to actually depreciate from their new MSRP 😂
I’ve never heard of the Karmann ghia until this video, and now that I have, I am also like “Yeahhhh”
Nolan's fit is pretty fashionable. It isn't YOUR fit steph, but it is a fit. It's a nice shirt.
Love these types of videos from donut! 👍
$9k for a mint Hudson Hornet with the Twin-H is insane
It’s up to you guys! Rebuild the muscle car era!
Thank goodness we don't have to pay over 100k for an old car, basically a shitbox at this point
15:54 ouch🥲
Ditto 😂
You guys should really do a build on an old car, like Steph’s Camaro would be sick to restore and make some power.
Dude that FJ at the start. What the heckkjkkk. If only I could win the lotto and start my dream car museum.
Steph went from Car Enthusiast to Mech Tech way to fast.
Watching this made me remember that donut hosts actually have no idea what they're talking about
One boomer car that will always be expensive. 1959 caddy.
The older generations are passing away, and their kids are selling their cars.
Draft kings actor is clearly tj millers cousin.
Love the older car content!
I have a 1969 Camaro that’s in great condition and was affordable. Has a 350 sbc.
As long as it’s not number matching or pro touring they are affordable.
All the people that collected and hoarded these cars for years are dying off. There will be many many more cars coming available over the next 20 years. Look up Sumner Nebraska car collection from 3 years ago for the biggest local one so far.
speeed. this channel is almost nothing w/o James. y'all are ok, James is the glue.
hot rods are cheap but food is over priced, these are odd times
Justin has a huge lack of knowledge on old mopars and just because he don't know shit about them doesn't mean anyone is tired of them. All old cars are overvalued and seeing everything come down is great for all car enthusiasts.
Y'all need to do a restoration on that Camero
2:00 Doc Hudson
13:30 The King, Strip Weathers
I'd written off owning a decent classic as wholly unrealistic, but $17k for the Z is making me reconsider.
The market is just so saturated with cars in general... and people are passing on everyday.
Nolan with the fresh cut leave some kitty cats for the rest of us man
Its nice to see that prices are going back to normal after the pandemic but I'm gonna be honest, I don't want to see any classic car get CHEAP cheap ever. Because if they ever get too cheap people (no matter the age) won't take care of them as much as they deserve... won't preserve them for the future generation (even the boring cars).
On the other hand, new cars should be in fact cheaper!
$9.5k for the Cuda 🤤
My Grandpa had one when he died in '78
Nolan is my spirit animal
It depends on how "collectible" the car can be. I sold my 68 falcon recently for 12k and that's about the norm in CA
First good Donut video in a while. More of these guys and less of the new mullet dude!
Glad the game show came back!
I high-key would manual-swap a 2000's Newbird and daily it until I die, zero farts given.
Can we get a series where Steph just works on all the cars shes got?
Just LOVE to see all these exaggerated reactions that are SO HUMAN
Portraying A guy with a gambling problem in the ad is crazy
Promoting gambling now, sad.

You could turn off the auto focus on the stationary, non moving cameras. Objects arent moving too.
