They really did. I saw them three times in the old days, between 2002 and 2006. I've never been part of crowds that were so uplifted by the music. Seriously. They brought the entire audience together in this feeling that we were part of something amazing. Throwing horns to people you don't know. Explosive applause. Sadly, I've never been part of anything that powerful ever again.

I saw them in same year here in Finland. I was just getting into metal and although it was a cool gig, I didn't know what I was witnessing. The gig was in very small town in middle of nowhere. There was another band playing in other small place that night, and we were had a dilemma which band we should go and see. The other band was Nightwish...
"I didn't know what I was witnessing." - I know the feeling. (A random Croatian guy who watched At The Gates who had just released "Slaughter of the Soul" thinking "wow that was a really good band" and never knew how important that album would still be years and years later.)
Alexi brought back what a guitar player was supposed to be. Not only that he was a fierce front man. At a time guitar players were just breakdowns and bullshit he brought back the solo
The uniqueness of the music, Alexi's charisma and the unbelievable amount of energy made COB a band like no other back in the day. I wish I was at this concert; it was the first show in the US not only for COB but also to Opeth.
@@jnunez825 Correct. This was the only time I ever traveled for a concert before...across the country from the West coast because it was Opeth, Katatonia, Children of Bodom, and Anathema was there too. What a show.

This truly was an amazing performance. I remember calling Jack Koshak, the promoter of the classic Milwaukee Metal Fests over the years, and asking if COB had made it over to the U.S. and were "for sure" gonna play. Other than a truly great performance by King Diamond the night before, COB stole the whole fest that year. There were a lot of jaws on the floor once the band got their sound figured out (there was no proper soundcheck and the keyboards were entertainingly problematic at the start of the set) and for the people who were familiar with the first two albums there was a lot of "I told you these guys were amazing!". It's too bad this classic line-up did not survive for long as it was by far the best COB line-up. This performance still ranks as one of the funnest and most impressive performances I've ever attended. Truly a magic night!
@@smallfaucet The worst thing that happened when Roope came is that COB stopped being guitar porn. When Roope came to the band i thought we'd have Sinergy with Alexi's vocals and Janne's keyboards. While i love all the COB albums and they're my favorite band of all time, that was a bit disappointing because Sinergy songs are insane guitar porn stuff and the potential of Laiho and Latvala got untapped in COB then.
I am super humbled by all the awesome comments on this video I uploaded 7 years ago. You had to be there to really experience the insane anticipation and packed like sardines we were in that room that summer day in 2000 for this show. I also attended the autograph session before this show and they had told me that they were going to be recording with Peter Tagtgren for their 3rd album (which became "Follow the Reaper") the week after they played the this show.

Thanks for the upload and great camera work! Its great to see these guys in their prime and Alexi before the injuries and partying seemed to have gotten the best of him.
