Their first US show Milwaukee Metalfest August 2000. I was there and stood near where this was filmed in the 2nd row. The place was packed! Setlist: Moonlapse Vertigo Forest of October Advent White Cluster Demon of the Fall

The anticipation for this show was something i will never forget. The place was packed and the band performed all the classics from the first 2 albums: Setlist: Silent Night, Bodom night Lake Bodom Warheart Bed or Razors Children of Bodom Towards dead End Touch Like Angel of Death Downfall Deadnight Warrior
I love Mendez's no bullshit aproach at every turn
Hail finland for some of the best music put to ears
The story behind this one is insane, that the bands all had to share the same instruments since the organisers said 'don't worry about bringing any equipment overseas'. Katatonia literally handed Opeth these same guitars as they got off the stage. Nuts haha
Hello, where can i see this interview? 😊
OMFG I WAS THERE.
wow... Downfall always gives me the shivers
I was there! 21 years old, living in the Bay Area. I went to Milwaukee Metal Fest specifically because it was the first time OPETH, KATATONIA, and ANATHEMA played in the United States. I also remember seeing NOVEMBER'S DOOM and TODAY IS THE DAY play amongst many others. What a time to be alive. Damn, time flies <3
You were so lucky. Thanks for share your memories🥺
So, did they fly to Milwaukee just to play these 9 song, or were there other shows they played?? I know the first actual US tour was 2003
Janne and Jaska played super solid. Didn't hear any mistakes.
At 18 yrs old, me and 3 friends drove from Twin Cities on our first road trip to Milwaukee Metal Fest just to see COB for the first of many times.
Wow young Alexi!
Alexander kuoppala is an underrated guitarist
singlecoilpeth
Reading the interviews where Mikael has made statements like "this gig saved Opeth" really show especially when you see vids of their Orchid/Morningrise line up shows their stage prensence was so different then, You can tell Mikael wasn't used to crowds such a massive size or highly praising them with a warm welcome like "OPETH OPETH OPETH" yet. It's truly a beautiful sight to see how happy yet caught off gaurd he was here.
The glory days of cob. Those first 4 albums were beyond badass. The Alexander era. Rip Alexi 🌹
This is pure gold, what a band they were. Thank you so much!
I really miss this lineup.
Damn This is awesome
que increible sonido en vivo de esta banda!!! la puta madre!!
This was my favorite lineup of the band. My first show was deliverance sitting cross leg on the stage in between Peter and Mik,s pedal boards. 😊
i m in raptures over And you ????
What a fucking set. Forest Of October is a fucking beaut, they are all favourite songs.
This is gold
Mikael was so confused of the hype😂
o.k.
First time in America!
That drummer plays so damn straight that if they start tripping over the frets, there's no question of where they're at. Iron Clad Tempo.
Martin Mendez is such a freaking beast
WHAT THE STRATOCASTERWHATFUCK?? just glad they evolved sounds into PRS juggernaut departments and Nah, not truly a mindless PRS fanboy i just love anything that is SG Gibson-like sounding and became very sick of overrated Stratos and most of fenders HUMBUCKERS of honor baby anyway was cool to see Pete upthere
Does matter wearing a Godflesh t shirt?
Looks like mikes rented strat is loaded with hotrodded pickups. Maybe some hotrails
It was actually the festival's rented strats/bass. All bands shared the same instruments cause they were told not to worry about shipping any gear over haha
I filmed this. SO wild to see a generate copy like this hahaha! They kept yelling at me to stop filming too.
Brad, i bought this VHS from you, I probably played it 50 times before i uploaded it LOL! :) I can still hear my screams between the songs! :)
@@ejd715 Hahaha! Amazing! Glad to stumble upon this one 24 years later. I used this show to practice my filming as i lived 10 min away lol.
And they say you can’t play metal on a Stratocaster 😅
All of them were so talented at their fiel
11:09 - 11:15 is the tastiest addon of a song ive ever heard
They sounded amazing. Right off the bat.
Wars the name of the podcast? Greetings from Sweden 🤘🇸🇪
Weeee
That's my Triple Rectifier Peter is using. I watched this set from the side of the stage. Good times.
That's awesome!
I watched it from 5 people back. Epic
After a certain amount of beer it hurts too much to watch this as I will never get the chance to see them (Alexi) live.
We're Children of Bodom from fucking Finland and we tuck in our shirts \m/
I do believe I was shrooming at this show, and I do think Mayhem was there for the Grand Declaration Of War album all black light show which tripped me out, lmao, also think Opeth played late and played Black rose immortal, I could be wrong, set list don't have all bands for all shows, if I had all my flyers from them I'd not be here trying to remember my past.
Nah you can find Opeth’s set uploaded on youtube. They never played Black Rose Immortal live until the most recent tour.
I miss Milwaukee Metalfest. Those were better times. Awesome bands came together in the brew city. I live about an hour north of Milwaukee so its basically in my backyard. Bands still come to Milwaukee but having a fest like this brought them all at once. You have to go to Chicago to see bands now. I saw incantation, dark funeral, belphegor plus others on one bill at the concorde club. It was great except dark funeral was way too loud for the size of the club.
Here we are again, 2 years after the passing of Alexi. Again, thank you all for the awesome comments on my video.
Alexi brought back what a guitar player was supposed to be. Not only that he was a fierce front man. At a time guitar players were just breakdowns and bullshit he brought back the solo
If not for this festival In mid America, Opeth may have not even continued to make the next 6 albums or so, Thank god for this day, I love Opeth so fucking much
FUCK. Why wasn't I there instead of being 5 in England?..
Young and hungry. This was something special and ofcourse from fucking Finland. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🔥🔥
Just epic.
