He had bought it becuase he was bored and had just been cruising around Detroit all day, and he let me take it for a spin. Ill never forget our conversation about the moon after a show yearssss ago. The roadie had to tell him it was time to go! I still have my signed shirt. Seven shows, helped me through my brother's death (when i heard i fell to the floor, rushed to my bedroom, played COB.). Roope you are wonderful. So kind when I met you after my brother passing....
This man is a god level musician when you look at his career. But this is it... This is where drinking like you dont care about anything eventually takes you. Drinking and playing was so glamourised to me, thanks to guys like dimebag and alexi. I used to watch their "home video" dvds over and over. I got in a band and went on tour and realised pretty quickly that the lifestyle would kill me... I left the band, went to AA and got married, got a house, had kids... It feels like a gave up on my dreams but i recently picked my guitars up again, got some lessons sorted and im enjoying it again... Seeing what happens to alexi, to guys like Roope. If i had a shred of their talent or success, id have ended up in the ground 100% people dont realise how fast and easily it can happen to you.
Thanks Chaos zine ... I'm from Iran and never seen Roope, but he's one of my biggest influences in music ... And I can feel his feeling ... He's sad and that's breaking my heart 😞 We need your music Roope ! You are an amazing guitarist .. Please come back to the music scene ..

I was on the backstage with Roope in Kuusrock '88 festival in Oulu (here in Finland) after Stone's gig (and couple of members of Stone too and Junnu from Airdash). Super cool dudes all of them and lots of funny moments happens. And Stone's gig too was awesome & wild! Those were the days...
Thank you Roope for your contribution in Children of Bodom, Stone and every other project you were involved with. Alexi wouldn't be the same player if it was not you. We really miss you and we happily recollect all the crazy tour memories we shared together. Can't wait to see you on the stage again. Take care! Cheers from Poland
I am glad that he has mentioned about Japan especially Osaka as I was born there :) When I last saw him with COB, it was Osaka show at Namba hatch,Osaka,Japan in September,2013.
Roope is so much more than "just" a quitarist in COB. He is a legend! God damn, STONE, maybe there hasn't been so many Finnish bands without STONE and his influence. C'mon man, get a grip and put your shit together! Please... we all love you, as a person and as a great quitarist. You are a diamond! Just start everything from the start. And live. And enjoy living. Wow Roope, I could feel your voice right down to the soles of my feet! It's great 🔥You're one of the great guitarists, the chemistry of Bodom after you, was not the same. Don't go the way of Aleksi, stay healthy and happy 🤘🏻😎 And your hair still looks amazing.
Good work with the interview. I think it is important sometimes also to tell the parts of the story that are not all just glory and glamour. Pure honesty. Respect. Roope is a legend and cob is a legend. I truly wish him just the best whatever he chooses to do in the future. And of course hope to see and hear him play as well some day.
It's sad to see him in this condition, he is a mere shadow of what he used to be. His guitar playing in Stone, Sinergy and then Bodom was exceptional in the early 2000's. I just hope that he would realize to ditch the drinking before it's too late.
Great to hear that he's at least planning on getting back to making music, hopefully it materialises into an actual band at some point! Stone reunion would be awesome.
Hard to watch but I too, like the majority of the commenters, have been extremely curious as to what the great Roope has been up to and looking forward to any of his projects. It's really hard to find anything on this guy so this interview was something I was looking forward to watching, especially since he's one of my guitar heroes. He's struggling with demons as we all are, I'm hopeful can overcome all this and get back to his music making self. It was difficult to understand what Roope was saying (booze demons) but kudos to the interviewer for trying his best to keep Roope focused on the question, great interviewing techniques but in the end, you can only do so much to try to accommodate for the interviewee's communication style/bad habits. In conclusion; Roope we love you and wish you the best and look forward to seeing/hearing more of your music. Please get better! Great job interviewer for doing your best to keep the interview authentic, great questions.
Arto Mäenpää , excellent work in this interview. You did a really great job here and alot of Roope's fans (myself included) are glad to know that hes still around and kicking. Here's hoping we get some music from him in the next few years.
I met Roope many years ago after a show in Seinäjoki, Finland. Super cool and down to earth dude. We drank some beer and discussed about the show until somebody from the crew came to get him because they had to leave to the buss. I don't know what the hell went wrong, but Roope definitely did not deserve the kind of treatment he got from COB! I hope we will hear some music from him in the future and can see him play again!
When I first saw Bodom on stage, the guitarist in front of me was Roope. I've been thinking about you ever since I found out that you were fired from Bodom. I am also glad to have met you through the Internet. Thanks for the good interview. I wish much happiness to my favorite great guitarist.

Roope is an amazing guitarist, same level as Alexi for sure. He shouldn’t let alcohol waste his life like this. I hope soon he finds the motivation to start writing some good stuff like his Sinergy days. Maybe start doing it with Kim Goss now that she’s also back, it would be awesome.

@@CreatureFeature1313 that was nice of him to go see his band even though he was done bad. Sad how the band had to disband, all the brotherly love lost and death. Every great empire must one day fall.
Yep and Roope is right about not watching most of the show lol. I ran into him in the bathroom during Lake Bodom. I regret crowd surfing I didn't realize that it wasn't allowed lol.
I wasn’t gonna comment anything, but… ”Deathcrew Hateroll”.
actually like that better than the original
Ruistopuisto nevaforget
We used to call it hatecrew egg roll
sounds like a sick name for a bodom tribute band
crazy how he can remember intricate bodom songs but not the names
Ill never forget our conversation about the moon after a show yearssss ago. The roadie had to tell him it was time to go! I still have my signed shirt. Seven shows, helped me through my brother's death (when i heard i fell to the floor, rushed to my bedroom, played COB.). Roope you are wonderful. So kind when I met you after my brother passing....
My brother Roman died too. I feel your pain my friend.
I like his honesty. Typical Finn, no pretension, ''it is what it is'' attitude.
Heartbreaking as fuck. He's been through a lot.
We love you Roope! Get better & stay that way ❤️
I’d like this comment but didn’t want to spoil the 69 likes 😂
WOHOOO Interview with ROOPE!! Been waiting for this!!!! Bring the man up again, he deserves it!! HYVÄ ROOPE! TSEMIÄ!!!
I love how he called himself a “homie”, meaning that he spends time at home.
I wish he was active on social media so us fans can show him how much we love and miss him ❤ 💔
So many people love his work and he doesn't seem to know. I would love just seeing Roope cut his lawn on ig.
Especially now that Alexi passed, the other members need to talk to roope and let him know they're there for him
I agree with you. They should do it.
i dont think roope would agree to that but you never know
Yeah probablynot
But would Roope want to talk to them? Henkka just seems like a dick. This was a sad interview.
But they're not there for him.
Thank you for interviewing Roope. Absolutely love the guy and his amazing guitar influence.
Really hope to hear and see more from him.
I know many fans feel the same way.
Roope is such an incredible musical mind! So happy I got to watch this just now! Thanks for chatting with me/us one time after the show Roope! Cheers
We need a new Roope interview!
That's the most important thing. ❤
Well put, thanks for the nice message
Roopeeeee !!! Edit for after watching: I'm so happy to see him again with his funny personality but also seeing his heartbreak is make me feel sad. I'm wishing a happy and healthy life to Roope with my whole heart. I hope I can met with you one day in person, old wolf. Greetings from Turkey.
Alcohol and drugs suck!! Sobriety seems like hell at the beginning, but its wort it, I hope Roope gets better someday
What are you talking about, he’s laughing and seems fine?
@@Fabulousideiumn You are not so bright
Good work with the interview. I think it is important sometimes also to tell the parts of the story that are not all just glory and glamour. Pure honesty. Respect.
Roope is a legend and cob is a legend. I truly wish him just the best whatever he chooses to do in the future. And of course hope to see and hear him play as well some day.
It's sad to see him in this condition, he is a mere shadow of what he used to be. His guitar playing in Stone, Sinergy and then Bodom was exceptional in the early 2000's. I just hope that he would realize to ditch the drinking before it's too late.
omg cant wait....been waiting to hear from roope for a looong time :)
Dont know what went wrong? The man sadly has alcohol issues, and is pretty much drunk all the time.
It its sad, but it is what it is
All the best to Roope and thanks for the interview!
Yes!!! Thank you for this! Can't wait to know what he has been up to!
Roope is amaizing skilled guitarist! Hoping all the best for him💥 Keep on rocking totally Roope🤟
ROOPE #1 !!!!!! The most badass fucking guitar player of all time. This man will never be a sellout like the rest of them
Hope he comes back to the music industry again. He's such an amazing guitarist and musician. Wish he takes care of himself more.
When I first saw Bodom on stage, the guitarist in front of me was Roope. I've been thinking about you ever since I found out that you were fired from Bodom. I am also glad to have met you through the Internet. Thanks for the good interview. I wish much happiness to my favorite great guitarist.
Roope has always been my guitarhero, and you always will be!! Hope you are well, and we fans want new material as soon as possible. No one is like you Roope. Your the best and have the most unique style ever!!
We need Kekkonen back on stage and FAST! Dude is a beast on guitar and so nice guy.
that guy is so sad. You can see it and hear it in his voice too. fucking legend. Hope he will be happy again
I've waited a looking time for this. I'm glad to hear his side of the story. Thanks for the upload!!!
Kaveri on alkoholisti, päihdepsykiatrin apua tarviis.
Roope is an amazing guitarist, same level as Alexi for sure. He shouldn’t let alcohol waste his life like this. I hope soon he finds the motivation to start writing some good stuff like his Sinergy days. Maybe start doing it with Kim Goss now that she’s also back, it would be awesome.
kim is back???
Brilliant rhythm player!
@@ironbar5786 yes, she’s active on Instagram and looks like that she has plans for future.
@@mpalin11 lead and rhythm. He was overshadowed by Alexi in CoB and rarely played lead but in Sinergy and his own band Stone, he was a kick ass lead guitarist and one of the bests in Finland. That’s why it’s sad to see him in a state of despair and low self esteem.
@@mpalin11 Not just Rhythm. He can play almost anything. I have seen him play some crazy shred licks without even trying hard.
This whole thing is so Finnish. ”Got kicked out of the band no one spoke to me.” Old bandmate dies ”nobody told me” After the call, ”kept sweeping the floor”.
Nice to see him! Legend.
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been wanting to know his side for a long time. Really glad he stepped up to tell us his story. Bodom wasn’t the same after he left.
He is such a great guitarist, I hope he starts working on some new music again or gets out there and plays for someone who needs a guitarist. His solos were always cool. I want to hear his playing again.
Roope you are a talented one! And we need to hear many more of your works cause we love them! Take care of yourself man!
Saw Bodom 11 times……each with this dude on rhythm. I hope he is happy. Legend
Люблю этого мужика. Боже, пошли ему счастья, долгих лет, здоровья, творческих идей и их реализации! Он достоин быть счастлив!
Love to Russia from America. We love you guys bro.
@@al69420 Спасибо большое! Тоже люблю всех людей. Мы все братья, но некоторым правителям выгодно нас разобщать. Надеюсь, скоро мы изменим мир к лучшему. Для этого есть только один путь - социализм. Alcoholism sucks.. this is heartbreaking to watch
much love for this guy. i was first introduced to him thanks to bodom, but i'm happy because that led me to stone. it sucks seeing roope bummed out. he's way too talented to not be doing what he does best.
Yes! You finally did it. Thanks so much for this!
YOU ARE LOVED ROOPE, ABSOLUTE LEGEND OF METAL ONE OF MY HEROS FOREVER I LOVE YOU BROTHER 💪🏼 🤘
Thank you,
Chaoszine! :)
Roope is the man, would love to hear more music from in the future.
I can't imagine all the rage, paint and sadness that he must've felt after being "left behind"... like, what's next in my life? now what should I do?
It nice to see him getting better
He really is getting better for sure! Not sire why some in the comment section argues his health..
Hell fuckin yeah!! The fuckin Legendary ROOPE!! He's fuckin back!! Can't wait for you to melt my face away with your godlike shredzz!! I met you one time as a teen when y'all came to house of blues Anaheim California. You inspired me to pick up guitar brother!! Miss you!! Looking so forward to seeing more brother please take care!! 🤘🍻
very sad to see Roope in that condition
This was indeed though to watch. Wish all the best to Roope, and for his helath and future to be bright and filled with music.
I also want to give creds to the interviewer. He seemed like a chill guy, who was respectful and it seemed like he cared for Roope. Wasnt too pushy. Asking those questions are difficult and it keeps a solid face to tackle those answers. But he managed good and let us hear Roope´s side in this whole band drama.
finns are immune to awkwardness, they have no issue at all with it
Thanks for this interview. Good luck for Roope's comeback!
My favourite guitar duo is Alexi and Roope. Roope is such an amazing guitar player
He said he has been ask for many projects but i think it should be something real before he would do it. There is no point to joint just for some new bands publicity. If the right project comes to his way, i am pretty sure he would clean him self quickly. Respect Roope!🤘
Been waiting for this so long. Nice to see you Roope again 🤘
I watched some older Children of Bodom videos (not music, just them goofing around and having fun), and Roope was speaking clearly. Watching him like this is sad. The dude has been through rough times. I hope he'll eventually realize that booze doesn't make anything better. He is amazing and has SO much to offer to the world.
Brutal how honest this guy is to himself while being interviewed.
Gotta love Roope, just awesome!
I vividly remember seeing them absolutely kill the show in Orlando at the Beacham theater with DTP. Fuck has my mental gone down after my idol past. Kinda even going down the same route at 26... this interview hurt but thank you for it. Hoping the best for Roope
Stray off the path bro
We love you, Roope!
I hope that 2022 may bring you all the luck in the world Roope! You are a true guitar legend!
The Man himself, thank you for making this happen
Roope, please make more beautiful music….ur music are so unique and beautiful…
Yes plz
Armoton hinaaja!
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD hahaahahahhhhahahhahaaaaaaa
Hey, we miss you a lot!!! Come back to music scene. I hope your parrot is doing well! 🥰
So wait Roope was kicked out for alcoholism? They were all alcoholics!
The band was fucking incredible. They were all crazy musicians. It's sad to see Roope like this, and Alexi dead. I was a huge fan as a teen. This is devastating to see.
They were, but others quit drinking and it became hard to watch him drink while trying to stay sober themself.
With roope being so salty i would not trust 100% what he is saying, i think truth is somewhere in between as always
I think it might have been more than just booze.
Alexi was abit of a dick. He had to always be the authority on everything and didn't want Roope's input. Sucks
@@Hiihtopipa salty?. That's the word you use? He's fucking heartbroken you can see that. And he's right. He shouldn't have to change just coz Alexi is. That's the problem with recovering junkies or alcoholics. They expect everyone else to facilitate their changing.
I've told you before and I will tell you again. We love you Roope!!!
I don`t know how i could meet roope, but i really want to meet him sometime. I never got to see any children of bodom show.
Roope stay strong you are one of my most favorite metal guitarists. Stay healthy and strong.
All my love man, thanks for the music, hope you find joy in your life x
I like how he got Dimmu's "Death Cult Armageddon" album title right, but previously said "Death Crew Hate Roll" haha. God bless you, Roope. Hope you get into a better place and I hope you can forgive the guys and patch things up.
This man didn't have the recognition he deserved during his time with COB. OK, he's well documented and well spoken of in their documentaries. His solo in Banned From Heaven is state of art and some people may not even know it's his solo (the second one). Jaska Raatikainen was the only one reportedly missing and feeling sorry for Roope's removal from the band in the making of their first album without him.
Roope - great guitarist and awesome influence, awesome player - I am glad to hear from him ! - long time since 2015 !!!!! - take care, stay safe and get back to the guitar !!!
It's nice to see you! 😎😎
I really hope to see Roope release his own music as some point in the future. He is as raw as it gets, and very talented. It breaks my heart to hear him talk about how he doesn't want to pick up a guitar, but i can't blame him.
Been watching you from the USA for over 15 years Roope. Thanks for helping me stick with guitar man. Hopefully you see enough of us old fans missing you that it makes you pick yours back up.
Toivon sinulle hyvää terveyttä ja onnea (Google translate lol)
