In early 2000s We talked at a show for a few minutes. He found me later and gave me a signed COB shirt, gave me the horns and left. I wore that shirt for all the shows I went to for a while. Super nice guy

I made eye contact when he was playing a show in Seattle when I was a small kid maybe 12 years old and we gave eachother the \m/ sign while looking eachother in the eyes. Then he gave me a signed poster by the band. He has the same name as me, and he died on my birthday, and also, cobs management team is my last name (Davis Management). Lots of parallels between me and Alexi. Favorite artist of all time by far.
Sadly his mental problems made him a not so nice guy towards the end.. :/

he was so genuine, no ego displayed whatsoever, and super polite. every interview i've seen with him he is such a class act. not to mention he was the main inspiration for me when I became obsessed with metal guitar at a young age. RIP Alexi and thank you.
Once I met him just by accident. He was in a hurry but still he spent like 10-15 minutes to chatting with me. He was so very nice, polite, thoughtful...he actually apologized that he didn't have more time for chatting. Before he left, he went back inside to get me a T-shirt and signed it. I was 17 back then and they were just starting the Blooddrunk tour, so the year I met him must be 2008. Will never forget his laughter and smile while he was joking with me.

Actually he’s quite socially awkward. You can tell he’s very uncomfortable. It’s sooo obvious. And apparent that he’s an introvert. Probably why he drank so much. Still he was a genuinely nice guy and sweet person and he certainly didn’t deserve to leave this earth at such a young age especially after all the music he’s given us and I’m sure he had left in him to give still smh what a shame. He will be sorely missed :(
@@merrittmussorgsky2937You don't know what are you talking about...thats not how social awkwardness look at all...he was just very bubbly. And "introvert" and "socially awkward" are not synonymous but two completely different things.
thats often what happens when you actually put thousands and thousands of hour into a craft, it humbles you cause you know that you had to work your ass off to get where you are, and it was hard. Thats atleast my expirience. Most if not all of extremely good guitar players ive met are incredibly humble, much more so than even the average person. For some it goes the other way, but i actually dont think thats what usually happens

He had to be one of the most humble rockstars to ever live. Fuck I'm so heartbroken over his passing. His great personality almost overshadows his insane guitar playing.
I don't think the loss of any other musician could hit me so hard. Broke my 4 year non-crying spell. I've done a good job of keeping my life light and breezy for a while now. I don't sweat the small stuff, I embrace poverty while constructing a sustainable fantasy life, but every once in a while, something so powerfully darkening happens in the world that makes even the most distant amongst us suddenly reattach to the world. Alexi, I'm talking to you on the public comments section of some Rock Magazine's RUclips upload of your interview from 15 years ago, ranting, already feeling embarassed about it before even posting the comment... because... your loss has basically broken my fundamental behavioural sub-structure. I am functioning at 35% and it's going to take time, to accept that you're not out there like 5000 miles away... chilling, writing songs. I gave you a painting once in Toronto. I wonder if it ever made it back to Finland with you. I'd like to think it did, and for a few moments over the years you looked at it, and realized that you inspired creative minds everywhere. It wasn't just the beautiful music man. It was everything. It was what I see here in this interview. I hope there's a beautiful afterlife where you can exist forever, but regardless, even if I live to be 100, I will be listening to your music till the end.

The first time I saw CoB was in Dallas, Texas in 2005. I was like 18 years old, maybe 19 by that point. They played with Amon Amarth and Trivium. Dimebag Darrells widow was there who I knew from some guitar stuff I did after Dime died the year prior.
It was such a good show. Afterwards we hung out by CoB's tourbus for like 2 hours waiting for Alexi to come out. In the meantime I had long discussions with Jaska and Henkka. Super nice guys. Eventually Rita (Dimes widow) and Alexi came stumbling out of the tour bus and came right over to me. She poured about 5 shots of whisky down my throat and introduced me to Alexi.
We talked for about 10 minutes but eventually all the other people crowded around to the point he couldn't be rude so he focused on signing stuff and pictures.
Eventually everyone kinda went away and I was hoping to party with Alexi more but Rita left and Alexi said he had to pass out, so that was the end of the night.
Still an epic first time to meet them. It was never like that again. Their tours and productions got larger and larger to the point you basically couldn't even get close to the bus after their show. Alexi grew more reclusive.
Such a tragic loss of talent. RIP Alexi.

What a cruel world we live in with him no longer in it and being taken from us adoring fans at such a young age. When you watch these videos of him it still doesnt sink in that hes dead but he is, and a year on soon fuck. RIP you legend from me and many other heartbroken fans
Awesome interview. I seen Children Of Bodom for the first time on the Unholy Alliance Tour. I went for Slayer and Lamb Of God had no idea who Bodom was and they blew me away they were so awesome. Probaby the best band of the night along with Slayer but that whole show was awesome. I didn't know one song and was instantly a fan after seeing them live. Still till this day one of the best shows I ever seen. Follow The Reaper is my favorite Bodom album.
If you idolized Alexi ,you know how to laugh. Deadly intensity and laughter. Duality is the fuel.
Still my heart hurts. We love and miss you Alexi

I despise cigarette and alcohol companies so much. I worked as a respiratory therapist for a while and people underestimate these 2 drugs so. fucking. much. They have taken so many influential people in my life. People who were a part of my most cherished memories. I know it's all about personal choices...but goddammit.
