Man, the Original Reverse Flash suit was perfect in almost everyway. All that it was missing were the red boots, which were meant to contrast with the Flash’s golden boots, but it didn’t bother me that much. Now he looks like a giant lemon.
The season 1 reverse flash suit was so good. It not only didn’t look goofy considering the color scheme, but it actually looked menacing paired with his red eyes and blurred figure

So the reason why Barry had the season 5 cowl on in almost every scene even emotional ones like Nora dying was because they told Grant he could get a haircut for a different role and didn’t consider that Barry would look completely different with almost a buzzcut look (you can see it in behind the scene photos) so that definitely adds to the annoyance
It’s so crazy to me that they designed such a great suit in season 4 and just ditched it for no reason. Edit: S/O to everyone who provided context for why they changed the suit for season 5. “No reason” was obviously a bit too much of an assumption in hindsight. Still wish they had designed something visually closer to the season 4 suit.
I don’t know why they felt like they needed to remove the chin strap on Barry’s costume. That was such a huge mistake. Looked so much better with the chin part of the mask.

Yeah for the flash suits they just don't translate well to live action the original suit and the season four suit were well designed and looked like an actually practical superhero suit. The more comic accurate suits just look like pajamas because of the bright red and yellow
Seasons 1 - 3 are peak Flash in terms of overall story, dialogue, costumes, and VFX. For the costumes, they used to do their own original take on the costumes from the comics and I prefer their look to most adaptations. They added a level of edginess/realism to the costumes that stood out and put in visible textures in the costumes, which looks better due to this being live-action. (Season 4 didn't have bad costumes either by the way)
The actors who had to wear them, like Grant for example, felt they were too annoying to use for long periods of time. Reasonable since it's likely there were days where he had to keep the suit on for many hours at once

I find it funny because the OG suit was following the old trend of leather suits even though it makes little sense for the flash. Yet looks better than the other suits that would fit someone who runs better.
I mean I see what the bottomless mask was going for, a good few versions of the flash don’t have a bottom portion to it, but it could’ve looked less goofy

Lemon head wells is the example of why going comic book accurate is not always the best of ideas. I mean the suit itself is not bad, is just the top that looks... well like a lemon. The color doesnt help, the suit looks way better when barry wears it.
Season 4 suit is goated. The only little issue was that it was a little too bulky, but all they had to do was fix it and then add some little extra things over time just like Grant Gustin wanted like the Golden Boots which were meant to symbolise Barry reached his full potential.
I think Barry’s NEWEST suit by the end of the show is great, but Season 4 was peak CW Flash in terms of fitting with the tone of the original seasons and upgrading the design.
S4 of the flash suit was the best. Reverse flashes original suit was better to. They could've kept the suit and made it a scarlett brighter red. They also could have still given him the ring and golden boots with that suit.
They knocked it out of the park with the initial suit designs and then went "too perfect, lets fuck it up." I get that the full leather costumes were a huge pain for the actors to film in, but there must've been a better solution than ugly bright spandex. Even just changing the colors to match the old suits would've been so much better.
Honestly all they had to do was make it less baggy and give it the gold boots, the Season 6-9 suit was decent and an improvement over the Season 5 suit, but to me it just didn’t compare to the Season 4 suit, that one looked straight out of the New 52/Rebirth comics
Very uncomfortable for actors. Season 5+ suits are designed so the actors don't have to suffer in them, and at least the season 8+ suit looks good and comic book accurate at the same time
The seasons 1-4 suits were causing harm to Grant Gustin. Specifically the cowls, which we’re leaving bruises and causing migraines. So yeah, despite how great the season 4 suit was, it was good idea to get rid of it
100% Agree, the newer suits just dont feel right. Of course they are more comic accurate, but i don't care about that. The older suits felt so much more grounded and realistic compared to the nylon, suits or whatever we have now. I also miss the old CGI and running scenes at Night that accentuated the speedsters lightning.
They tried to be more like the comic but also less like the dark theme of Arrow, giving Barry bright vibrant colors later on. Cant say I'm mad at them tho for trying new things. A new suit every season didnt bother me too much

Mainly since it was made for Grant in the Armageddon crossover. They didn’t design it for Tom for some reason, which leads to stiff movements and such.
Unpopular take: it would’ve been weird if thawne had the same leathery suit while Barry had his more cloth looking suit. They should’ve combined leathery parts like what thawne had on his shoulders and Barry should’ve had that aswell. Injustice 2 had a really good mix of this.

Do like the season 4 suit, genuinely looks good but i'll never feel the love for it other people have for some reason. For me its absolutely season 2-3 suit. As a side, im guessing what they were going for with the S4 suit was to tie it together with the first RF suit, they are quite similar, maybe intending it to be Barry's final suit but later changed it for whatever reason (id personally guess Grant's comfort, does look like it'd get quite hot).
Agreed! Season 2-3 is my favourite, though I'm still partial to the red symbol from season 1. And the season 4 suit was basically the "future Flash" suit in 2024, so it was almost certainly meant to be a counterpart to the original Reverse Flash suit's design.

I actually like how lame the full Reverse-Flash suit looks. The first we see him, Thawne is a horrifying, calculating monster whose form we couldn't fully comprehend. Then the more we learn about him the more we realize he's just an insanely petty fanboy and starts looking more and more the part--his costume is a reflection of who he really is.

Hot take: s4 is the best flash suit in this show. I know people like the s6-9 suit but I think the leather suits fit the general aesthetics of the show better.
Cavanagh was better in the RF suit without the cowl up, or if it was up, when they did the eye effect and the distorted voice. Tbh, I liked his distorted voice like when he put the time device thing on his suit in the first season and says “merry Christmas” or “some would say I’m the reverse” Letscher looked better in the suit generally because they obviously picked him as the OG Eobard. He fit it well. I just wish he had more time to be RF because his time in flashpoint and the times they saw him, he did have that charm yet petty nature to him. But yea Cavanagh looks so goofy in the suit without the effects and I think that’s just cause he really doesn’t look like Eobard so it doesn’t work for me.

The older suits felt so much more grounded and realistic compared to the nylon, suits or whatever we have now. I also miss the old CGI and running scenes at Night that accentuated the speedsters lightning.
S1 with the red emblem and S4 were my favourites
They tried to be more like the comic but also less like the dark theme of Arrow, giving Barry bright vibrant colors later on. Cant say I'm mad at them tho for trying new things. A new suit every season didnt bother me too much

Mainly since it was made for Grant in the Armageddon crossover. They didn’t design it for Tom for some reason, which leads to stiff movements and such.

Unpopular take: it would’ve been weird if thawne had the same leathery suit while Barry had his more cloth looking suit. They should’ve combined leathery parts like what thawne had on his shoulders and Barry should’ve had that aswell. Injustice 2 had a really good mix of this.

You are joking right? S1 suit is a joke. Too dark, goofy mask (not as goofy as S5-S9 masks but still not THAT good) and too much red (even the emblem is red). S2 suit is definitely an improvement but still too dark and very noticeable leather. S4 suit is probably the only suit that has the least amount of problems. Not too dark and it looks great! Besides the fact that the suit looks very obviously baggy AND the lightning bolts on the side of the mask looks so strange. S6-S9 suits comic book accurate yellow thingy on the side of the mask looks WAY better in comparison. They should have just reused the S4 suit and replaced those ugly lightning bolts on the sides to those really cool yellow thingy on the S6-S9 mask which they probably should have done from the beginning anyway.

As a side, im guessing what they were going for with the S4 suit was to tie it together with the first RF suit, they are quite similar, maybe intending it to be Barry's final suit but later changed it for whatever reason (id personally guess Grant's comfort, does look like it'd get quite hot).
Agreed! Season 2-3 is my favourite, though I'm still partial to the red symbol from season 1. And the season 4 suit was basically the "future Flash" suit in 2024, so it was almost certainly meant to be a counterpart to the original Reverse Flash suit's design.
I will admit, the Season 2-3 Flash suit looks good and takes 2nd place on my list, just behind Season 4 since S4 Flash at least has a bit more yellow

I actually like how lame the full Reverse-Flash suit looks. The first we see him, Thawne is a horrifying, calculating monster whose form we couldn't fully comprehend. Then the more we learn about him the more we realize he's just an insanely petty fanboy and starts looking more and more the part--his costume is a reflection of who he really is.

Cavanagh was better in the RF suit without the cowl up, or if it was up, when they did the eye effect and the distorted voice. Tbh, I liked his distorted voice like when he put the time device thing on his suit in the first season and says “merry Christmas” or “some would say I’m the reverse”
Letscher looked better in the suit generally because they obviously picked him as the OG Eobard. He fit it well. I just wish he had more time to be RF because his time in flashpoint and the times they saw him, he did have that charm yet petty nature to him.
But yea Cavanagh looks so goofy in the suit without the effects and I think that’s just cause he really doesn’t look like Eobard so it doesn’t work for me.
