That really shows homelanders strength. He’s an inexperienced fighter vs three experienced fighters with power. Though soldier boy was rusty, and the other two weren’t used to their powers, they still had years of combat experience fighting people that were powerful, and all three of them do nothing apart from fighting. And here we have homelander, has never met a match, doesn’t really do any fighting but just walks around lasering bad guys, and is worried about other stuff like voughts numbers and promotional activities. And yet he still holds his own and does really well against these guys. And on top of that he was limited in a closed space. If this was a battle in an open place like a field or landscape, he could put on of his greatest powers, flight, into good use, gaining distance, going fast, attacking from multiple angles, repeatedly crashing down on the boys, and so much more. Really comes to show the power of the Homelander.
That mid-fight butcher grinning scene with blood in his teeth was an exact replica of his first encounter with translucent. Loved it. Billy is such a crazy guy; its enthralling whenever he gets into a fight.
There's a few parallels to Butcher and Hughie vs Translucent. In both fights, Butcher tells Hughie to run, and instead Hughie comes in from behind turning the fight the favour of the Boys. I love it.
Butcher was having the time of his life. The person he hates most and the main reason Butcher is on the path that he is. Homelander has been, literally, untouchable before and now Butcher has a way to actually fight and hurt him. Of course he'd be grinning when he's got Homelander working for his win
Anthony Starr deserves an award. Dude is legitimately scary. He could tell an entire story with facial expression. His eyes tell it all. A broken powerful man just wanting to be loved. His facial expression acting is unprecedented
There’s this point when he’s on stage with Starlight, an audience member shouts out his Nazi girlfriend is dead, and something just under the skin twitches. It’s so minute you can barely see it, but it felt so freaky I twitched with him. Amazing performance, everything with that scene and his speech.
True. I've seen 2 of his movies after this one and I kept thinking he was going to shoot lasers out of his eyes even though they were clearly not super hero movies
Homelander's reactions during the fight are priceless. He goes from being confident against Soldierboy, to shocked when Butcher has powers, frustrated when Hughie comes in and angry/scared when they all pin him down.
Like, does MM have a death wish? Exactly what is he going to do to Soldier Boy? It would be worse outcome than a one year girl old trying to beat up The Rock.
I love how Butcher just walked towards Homelander not even knowing if Temp V could put him on Homelander's level. How good it must have felt for him to be finally able to hit Homelander.
I think Homlander pretty much cleared it out at the Noir's death scene that he can see through people's clothing, so technically nothing new to him! or... he has always been seeing everyone naked all along! :D
I love the look on Homeladner's face at the end. For the first time in his entire life, he lost. Not through blackmail means like in the previous season, but in an actual physical fight. He had to retreat. He felt fear. And we can see every single one of those emotions come across his face. Shock, disbelief, rage, denial, desperation. Absolute perfection.

I love that of all the fights in the show, Soldier Boy seems to demonstrate the most realistic hand-to-hand combat here. He throws punches with intent and a meaningful target (e.g. uppercutting Homelander’s liver), manages distance, head movement, so forth. Pretty creative attacks like a headbutt, cape-pulling, slamming. Noticeably more strategic than all the untrained supes we see. Wish we got more Soldier Boy.
This show really doesn’t have many fight scenes when you think about it, especially with Homelander. They went above and beyond with this sequence. What an expertly choreographed battle
My only gripe with this scene is the power scaling. These guys are running into literal walls and stopping, it’s kind of telling us that these supes top out at around Captain America’s strength but with additional powers on top of it.
@@ben_jammin9470 I’m sure there’s a level of control that they have with their powers, especially homelander. If he wanted to smash Soldier Boy clean through a wall I’m sure he could do it. If you think about it, we all are animals IN OUR OWN RIGHT. That being said we may all identify with different savage beasts in the heat of a vigorous battle. Such times we call upon this beast (our spirit animal if you will) and we use not only it’s power but it’s animalistic wisdom to slash our foes from the kneecaps and below. Effectively disabling them from the fight. Once unlocked, this wisdom can be used to further the progress of man. That’s where most inventions come from. The man who invented the blow up doll we commonly use for penile satisfaction, was actually conceived by a man who fought a very dangerous but also oddly sexual bout with a bear back in the late 1800’s. Although his spirit anima is unknown, it is obvious it contributed to the wisdom he gained to invent such a technology, which was EXTREMELY revolutionary at the time. If I do say so myself. If I may.

Butcher really won the lottery with that Temporary Compound V giving him basically the same suite of powers that Homelander has. Hughie can't even teleport his clothes..!
My guess is that butcher has fighting in his DNA, hughie always runs away. The plot ensures the compound v gives powers to help their specific situations. You can tell Hughie still doesn’t hit as hard as Butcher. If hughie had lazer eyes and super strength he would have ripped ATrain apart.
Seeing how compound V does thing to your brain, an possible explanation is that Butcher only thinks about homelander. So the compound V took that to make the power. Same as Hughie, who only thinks about vanishing. That, or the producers thought it would be cool
Butcher with powers similar to Homelander was way better and cooler than the weird slimy tumour tenticle powers he has now. This fight was really the prime of Butcher
Ive seen a theory that compound vs effects are directly correlated with the subjects will and intent, Butcher considered Homelander the strongest supe and believed he needed to be on his level to kill him So he developed his lazer eyesight And his strength and durability to match him But he wasn't insecure or felt the need to be above anyone So he never developed flight like homelander did But im actually excited to see how a fight with the tumour butcher would look like

I don't think Homelander wants to live without Butcher, since he makes his life more interesting. He could of have killed him at any moment before, but hasn't. @@sara-vf5xz yeah, they showed a little bit of HL being thrown into an acid pool (or something like that too)
Many people ignores that Diabolical's eight episode is actually canon lol
Don’t forget they trained him young in combat against stronger supes
He is fucking Superman
Butcher really won the lottery with that Temporary Compound V giving him basically the same suite of powers that Homelander has. Hughie can't even teleport his clothes..!
Nearly the same except he couldn't fly, what a shame.
@@TakeshiMitsuhideor maybe he doesn’t know he can 🤷
Poetic really
My guess is that butcher has fighting in his DNA, hughie always runs away. The plot ensures the compound v gives powers to help their specific situations. You can tell Hughie still doesn’t hit as hard as Butcher. If hughie had lazer eyes and super strength he would have ripped ATrain apart.
Seeing how compound V does thing to your brain, an possible explanation is that Butcher only thinks about homelander. So the compound V took that to make the power. Same as Hughie, who only thinks about vanishing.
That, or the producers thought it would be cool

Oh, he's been waiting a decade to trade sluggers with HL, and never thought it was possible. This moment is a delight to him.
This scene was one of the most satisfying comic book scenes ive seen in a long time
The buildup and payoff was so worth it
1:20 Starlight : "MM please the fans are really hyped about this fight"

LMFAOO so true
If MM had intervened, he would have been killed instantly and the fight would have happened anyway.
Butcher with powers similar to Homelander was way better and cooler than the weird slimy tumour tenticle powers he has now. This fight was really the prime of Butcher
rea
It was the show at its prime. The writing has made the show feel underwhelming and anti climatic especially with the political ideology
Ive seen a theory that compound vs effects are directly correlated with the subjects will and intent,
Butcher considered Homelander the strongest supe and believed he needed to be on his level to kill him
So he developed his lazer eyesight
And his strength and durability to match him
But he wasn't insecure or felt the need to be above anyone
So he never developed flight like homelander did
But im actually excited to see how a fight with the tumour butcher would look like
parasite butcher is more stronger

I KNOW RIGHT. It's so weird. It feels so nerdy and lame but also and MORESO it feels cool!!
The laser eyes meeting, people catching each other's punches, HL and Butcher strangling each other... The whole fight felt like something out of Dragon Ball Z.
@@pablerarav9016 nah dc comics and marvel came before db
@@hirokakhand6584 I don't really see how one coming before the other has anything to do with what I said. I said it feels like it's from DBZ, not that DBZ came first. I didn't even mention DC and Marvel.
I just realized, how does Homelander not know something is up when he lasers Butcher in the beginning? Whenever he lasers a non-supe, the laser slices through them. Only supes get knocked back without being torn apart like that. With how much Homelander uses his lasers, you’d think he’d know
Maybe he held back. He is able to control the intensity.
I don't think Homelander wants to live without Butcher, since he makes his life more interesting. He could of have killed him at any moment before, but hasn't.
The laser he threw at Butcher was also short, and we've seen before that he can control the temperature of it 👀
I see it as a Batman n Joker kinda ship
Or he’d smell the V in his blood
@@RemoteLogicHe would never hold back especially against Butcher
Butcher appeared dead at the moment. And Homelander has different types of lasers. Superman type lasers that cut through stuff, Cyborg type lasers that knock things back, and heat ray lasers that slowly fry things like Stillwell or the breastmilk.
Homelander's face when they were holding him down was fantastic. He knew that he was close to death for a second there.
How. Maeve took that same blow in episode 8 and she survived.
He didnt knew that , he run away because he felt that couldnt win , idk if he could btw
@@joaquinlucero5814 he would have lost his powers too, so soldier boy or butcher would easily finish him off
@@shadowking1358 You dont know that. I mean, its hard to say if it would work on Homelander, he isn't Kimiko... Homelander is much more powerful than other heroes so just because something works on them doesnt mean that it will work on Homelander too.
@@sheriffackerman9520 that's the whole point of soldier boy. It doesn't matter what hero are hit, it remove power. Even if he is super strongh, it would have kill at least 60% of his power, which is enough to make him "weak" versus soldier boy/butcher or most of the super hero in the show.
Soldier boy just does it for me, ya know?
While not having that much screen time compared to other characters, he still manages to steal every scene
He's like a morally grey version future Gohan in a sense. Man, I can't wait for his return
That and the fact he was Homelander before Homelander even came about. They’re both destructive assholes, both their teams want them gone. They are the ideal supe, yet they can’t act as the Hero because they’re the worst. But something about Soldier Boy just screams HIM.
3:08 I just noticed Homelander saw where Hughie was going before he reappeared - nice detail to Homelander's powers
Nice catch. Didn't notice that first time thru.
Really good observation right there
He has superhuman senses so that makes sense.

@@Mariushaas-zb4dmThere is no disagreeing with this it’s a fact and you’re an idiot. After this fight he’s literally terrified of soldier boy
Such a wonderful scene ... everything from Homelander's initial arrogance to the way he's dogpiled and has to flee the site in terror is perfect.
Lol they had to 3v1 him, he was beating both of them
@@2014saisdYeah, they had to 3v1 him to beat him, and with 3, they were beating him, which caused him to flee in terror because, they were beating him. You'll find the character of Homelander to not really care about powerscaling, but his own life rather. Whether it was 1 supe or 3 supes almost killing him, it's the same to him, he doesnt want to die, and dying scares him, so again, he was fleeing in terror, doesnt matter that it required 3 supes to almost kill him, not to him atleast.
@@kamixakadio2441 Homelander's not really that special in terms of how he feels about fighting. He did care that he was getting beat, like literally everyone, but he still hangs onto the idea that there were 3 people to establish that he was stronger, again, like literally everyone. He may also know deep down that nobody in the show cares that they're fighting dirty when they hate him so much and have been trying to take him down for the past year.

Facts
It's the best episode of the show. Everything at it is great 🙌
I love seeing how Homelander fights when he's faced with an actual challenge. It's clear he never actually has had to work on his form, he throws very telegraphed haymakers, wide hooks, and aggressive punches. Throughout this entire fight, he's being mostly protected by his ungodly high power and strength.
Still did pretty good considering there was three of them and butcher had actual combat training.
@@mank89yeah, but in all fairness butchers powers weren't nearly as good, like, you can tell he would've died if he wasn't SAS
Equally, I love the fight choreography in The Boys in general. Homelander instantly lasering Butcher without first some long winded standoff. Direct, hard punches and grappling, rather than throwing people stupidly across the room. etc.
@@TheJimblesYeah I mean that's the whole point of The Boys: If villains and heroes were really only looking for results and went straight to the point.
@@mank89Idk about that, Butcher has real experience in fights but as a supe hes just ground and pounds like a street brawler, kinda like Homelander but hes dealt woth many supes before that were far weaker, only exception being maeve, Nazi girl and maybe Black noir who he killed easily, The real show case of his experience is when he fought SB a real veteran here, he even beats Butcher and many others in a fist fight even being held down by 4 of them including Meeko whos as strong as Black noir.
