If you use Air8, you know the cost. With that in mind, you can get the rollaerator. Its expensive, but its so fast. Just aerating at the end of the season is ok, but if you want fluffy soil you’ll need to be someone who has an aerator and compost spreader. Top dressing your lawn after aeration. Dethatch, aerate, seed, top dress. If you have the right tools, this is the most satisfying part of lawncare. And for anyone saying they don’t have space for a rollaerator, dethatcher and roll spreader, I think its a shame you can’t problem solve, because its so fun to see this type of results.
I'm convinced that the Amick aerator roller that Yard Bruh uses is the best manual aerator. I plan to purchase one this winter when the prices go down.
This is the one you can aerate every month like the golf courses do! I doubt the price will come down. This piece of equipment will do wonders with a compost spreader right after! The Amick rollaerator!
When I was younger I aerated my whole yard (3200 sqft) with something similar to the black one you have. I did it over several weeks. But now that im older theres no way Ill do that again. I been using this manual aerator called the Rollaerator for the pass 6 years or so. It makes manual aerating a lot easier and faster. Its kind of on the expensive side for what it is but I think its worth it.
I have a two-tine manual core aerator. I have found that if I keep my foot placed on the aerator and then use my whole body weight it reduces the amount of jarring my foot has to undergo and is more effective than trying to smash my foot on the tool and using my leg strength to drive it in. For me, this reduces the amount of muscle fatigue and is more effective in going deep. YMMV, especially for different soil types. Also, when clearing cores stuck in the tines using a screwdriver, I found it is more effective to insert it in the bottom of the tine and push it towards the top where the cores are normally ejected. This is easier at removal because the tine's internal diameter is normally narrower at the bottom than at the top. However, if you get a rock jammed in the tine, you might have to knock it out from the top.
I have a small area that seemed hard, so I was shoving my pitchfork in it and wiggling it back and forth to break it up. Not a ton, just enough to kind of crack the soil. But it can go deeper than those which is nice. Seems to have helped, but oh MAN it was a lot of work haha
I was looking at one that you put Cinder Blocks on and you push it more so like the spike method. But you're right, you will be all day with the manual step on ones
Great video. I like to dethatch in the fall once a year with my Greenworks machine, which I got at Lows. But core aerating? Holy moly is that a workout even with the machine. So I might try that once every three years. But I won't lie; it's kind of scary. Have a good day.
I have the yellow one like you, then upgraded to another type with springs on it. They both suck. The cores will get stuck and then you have to battle trying to get the cores out with a screw driver. Best tip I can give is use these type of tools when the lawn has the proper moisture levels, and even then you will have clogs. If you do it on a dry soil you will get alot of clogs. I gave up on these tools, and in fall I will shell out the bucks to either rent the aerator machine or pay someone to do it.
If I dethatch my whole lawn with a machine like sunjoe. Do I have to aerate after with a seperate tool or does the dethatcher rip it up enough? Great content!
I have a twist tiller but I occasionally used it for patching purposes to loosen the dry, hard dirt. The weasel as you know is our main go to. If that didn't work, I'm going old skool, steel shovel. 😋😭🤧🤤
I have one of those twist tiller also 🤣🤣. I have a lot of lawn tools. When I first started I was just accumulating tools on tools. Used them all once or twice and put them away 🤣🤣🤣. I realized alot of them were unnecessary over time
@@LawnAmateur Yeah my dad gave me a garden hoe years ago, and I still today don't understand why it's still in my garage. I wasn't preparing a garden.😌😌
I have the spike shoes aerator. I let my neighbor use my core aerator like your new one. Don’t ask me how ?!?! But he some how some way they bent the core hole and only two core holes work. I’ll order a new one 😂😂😂. I do get a workout when using the manual core aerator, spike shoes not so bad. My brother has 1800sqft and uses spike shoe aerator 😂😂😂. Good video ❤
@@LawnAmateur I never looked at it that way this is true. Also since you told me raise my HOC, it’s working. I raised it, did a spike aeration and applied some Root Ruckus, Green Envy, FourPlay and Dawn dish liquid and a pinch of Ammonium Sulfate. I’m a sprayer, I love to spray. I’m looking good for the heat so far. Also been deep watering 6am and 5pm it’s been so dry here in Maryland
A rolleraerator people talk about are useless on a clay soil and I have that yellow one and for a little section here or there its ok but it gets plugged up all the time.
Best channel for people trying to get their lawn handled without all the complicated jargon. Thanks man. This was great.
Thank you 🙏🏾
Yes it is
I appreciate the content enough to say it as well
Great video. Helped me decide what tool to get. Core aerator is the way to go.
@tpaineredux3745 thank you for watching I'm glad I could help

I also use a rollerator on my 6000 square foot yard. It is a good workout for my 81 year old body.
I agree it's definitely fun and satisfying seeing the results

I never seen that one. I'll have to take a look into it 👌🏾

Thank you so much for this video. I am planning to aerate my lawn this weekend and you uploaded this today. I am so glad. God bless you brother!
No problem I'm glad I could help.

Wow I can't imagine doing that 🤣. That's alot
The manual aerators are great for barespots or slightly larger areas. I suppose you could use these and do small sections of the lawn over time.
It can definitely work

That's a good method because it is definitely a workout on your legs

Yea, the pitchfork is always an option.
I was looking at one that you put Cinder Blocks on and you push it more so like the spike method. But you're right, you will be all day with the manual step on ones
It's definitely a workout lol that I'm not interested in
Even with a cinder block it is too light! I seen a guy put 2 45lb weight plates and it worked better!

The machine is definitely a big work 🤣. That thing is a beast

I totally agree with you
If I dethatch my whole lawn with a machine like sunjoe.
Do I have to aerate after with a seperate tool or does the dethatcher rip it up enough?
Great content!
You could do both if you want but the sunjoe is enough
Can you do a video about leveling your lawn if your lawn is bumpy?
I may try that later in the season around overseed time
You can reduce clogs by spraying some lubricant into the cores
Smart thinking. I didn't think about that 👌🏾
The side yard that you did the aeration...what do you use to water that area?
Just hand watered
@@LawnAmateur for how long? Your be there forever to get an inch to and inch and half of water. Yikes
@HangryPandaMike that side doesn't dry out that fast because it doesn't get alot of sun only like 2-3 hours tops and that's being generous
@@LawnAmateur wish my Bermuda was like that. My sides need alot of TLC. Hates the shade and wants lots of sun and water lol
@@HangryPandaMike yea cool season grass thrive in shaded cooler areas.
Damn bro your front yard is super green 🙌
Thank you, The front yard does really well

Good video I did use the manual way and got a nice work out lol
It works, but you'll work be tired afterwards
What about the one you roll thinking bout buying one cause I been using the stz green liquid one
The roller is better
But I'm try to decide on the shoes or the roller what you think is better
@juniouswilliams2680 the shoes may be easier because you can put them on while walking the yard and mowing. That's what I would do
What to do for moles in your yard
Man, I know I stand no chance with a manual core aerator if you could barely get it down. My soil is heavily compacted clay!
It's tough
I never knew what or why this was necessary. I was like, dang those are some kinda groundhogs. 🤤😴🤨🤔👍
🤣 thank you 👌🏾

Best way is to rent the gas powered machine from HD for $100 and call it a day
@@SeahawkAz I don’t have that much yard. So my shoes and manual work best for me
I did that last year and weeds grow in those spots.
That'll happen with exposed soil
