      This is my story too! We bought our house last yr and yard is a mess. Dead and bald spots! We hired landscaping contractors to fix the ground because we had more than a dozen tree stumps removed cause it was getting too close to our house's foundation. Anyway, you inspire me that we can have a lawn like this one!

    I gotta tell you something. That step where you pat the seed down with your foot might be the most important part, and people often forget it. I’ve always heard how seed to soil contact is important. But a few years ago I replaced the cover over my sprinkler valves, and when I was packing the dirt in around it, the parts where I packed it good with seed popped SP much faster than the parts where I didn’t. And it was kinda junky sandy soil too! Definitely important. Beg/borrow/steal a roller if you’re doing a large area!! I also like peat moss! Had good luck with just sprinkling some soil on top too if that’s all you have handy.

    The garden weisel works great if the ground is soft. If its hard and dried out, i will usually water it for a while to soften it up. Also, if the ground is basically mud, it will straight up rip out adult grass instantly and the roots. So you gotta pay attention to the status of the soil. Good video.

    Learned something yesterday. Went to Lowes today and bought their version of the Weasel. It was $35, and it was worth it. Did one large spot in the back yard that has been troublesome for a while. Rolled it, seeded it, rolled it lightly again then dropped some Milorganite and watered.
    Took care of the side of the house where it was dug up to replace a water line. They did a lousy job filling and leveling the dirt and then seeding. I fixed it once and got some growth. Took the tine tool to it today as well with the same process. Got some rain coming this week. Hoping to see some good results within a week or two.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Ive had one of those hand cultivators for many years and I do the same and when the fall comes I take all the plants and hanging baskets and i add seed and cultivate it into my yards low areas and thin spots, and I recycle any plastic pots… good day …👍

    I like to use scotts turf builder soil in the green bag, its easy, its got peat moss and mild starter fert mixed in. I used my garden weasel today lol, forgot how awseome it was.

    All good stuff. I would've gone ahead a put down some starter fertilizer and definitely watered the area daily for maximum results. I've also seen some ppl use regular pottery mix instead of the peat moss. Both work fine in this scenario.

    • @LawnAmateur
      @LawnAmateur  8 месяцев назад +1

      I always wait atleast 7-10 days before putting the starter fertilizer down to give the seeds a chance to germinate first
