Thank you for your enthusiasm - your videos are great motivation to me to get out and explore this wonderful country that we are lucky enough to live in - you are certainly an extremely skilled angler - that big brown was stunning - I learn something new in every one of your videos - sounds like the technology that I carry is a bit more advanced that yours 🙂 - I carry a Garmin InReach to drop breadcrumbs every 10 minutes and to message my wife when I am out of 3G/4G/5G reception (as well as for the SOS / EPIRB function) - and a Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar to track my route in granular detail (battery last days in UltraTrac mode). Lord Gadget.

O nice! the InReach looks like a good option - it's just the subscription fees that have previously put me off a bit. Definitely worth it though for your partner's piece of mind - it also has the weather text feature right? Can you load the UltraTrac mode data up onto mapping product? My apple watch's battery is pretty ordinary - I think this Gaia GPS app might be the solution. Might check out the trial to see if the paid version offers any significant benefits.

I’m trying to get my head around the rig you are fishing. It’s 15 or 20 years since I’ve done much fly fishing and I’m out of touch. Is that a long tapered leader and tippet, or a long leader of single-diameter mono? It’s difficult to see but I’m guessing about three or four kilo mono? How long? Cheers! Chris.

G'day Chris - check out this recent video I did which hopefully explains my setup. Not sure how well i did explaining it so let me know if you need me to clarify anything from that vid.

Cheers mate, thanks for that. Pretty much what I was expecting. Good explanation. I assume with that mono leader and fine tippet you are casting weighted/beaded nymphs, relying on the weight of the fly to drag out the line rather than the weight of the line to deliver the fly. A bit like lure fishing! No judgement here - I’ll happily toss lures if it’s too windy for me to manage the fly. :) Makes me wish I hadn’t parted with my 13 ft Drennan Tench Float rod (English coarse fishing rod). That would be ideal. Perhaps a blackfish outfit with centrepin reel would work well with that approach too. Chris. @@p3p_flyfishing

Ha ha, don't know why you didn't just drive down there, others have! What a relief to get that first fish. Well worth the effort, but you need just one to justify it 🙂 Looked like a great trip. The rain really came down, we're in the Snowies and we've had nearly 200mm. Looking forward to the rest. Driving me crazy trying to figure out where you were. 🙂 Good stuff. Cheers PP

PP! mate the rivers are hectic - was down there yesterday looking for a lost rod (covered in next video) and it's amazing the difference in the river size. Can only guess you are fishing the lakes? Will have to catch up sometime down that way to share some stories in person.

@@p3p_flyfishing Maaate - fishing the lakes would show a distinct lack of commitment - and wayy too much common sense. No, we've stuck to our guns and dealt with snagging heath and grass 10ft out in the current and pretending the fish really do love fast water. The lightning and storms have been a bit off putting, especially above the tree line. I think my young bloke's commitment is waning ... was thinking the same thing, I'll see if I can figure out Insta and contact you. No pointing and laughing, though. 🙂
