So completely impressed by your respect of that fish. In todays social media age that fish would have been manhandled for ten minutes of photos before release only to belly up later. Congratulations. Fish of a lifetime.
They keep a lot of fish out of the water longer than I would generally do, but still short enough for pretty high survival rates. I also know it's a lot harder to get clean releases off a boat, but I try to keep fish out of the water for 3 seconds max.
The collective silence the moment after you let that fish go says it all.. those are the moments you live for. Congratulations man. Thanks for bringing us along for that ride.
Tons of respect for how you handled the fish; didn't even drag him into the boat at the risk of her getting away. The number of youtube videos of anglers handling fish with dry hands, dragging fish across the shore, etc. is terrifying.
You got back in the boat and got your friends on fish. Good man. That was a monster. Your career has peaked. It’s all 10” fish from here on out. Great vid
there is a LOUD quiet on the boat when you hook into one of those, you know what is at stake. well done landing and even better job getting her back into the water quick, everyone who fishes that stretch dreams of that fish!
55 years of fly fishing, and I have never seen a brown that big. Great job, my friend. Oh, one more thing take that sticker off your truck that sez I suck at fly fishing!
Bro, I've been guiding 27 + years at Lees Ferry and to hear another guide say you feel like your floating is great to hear! Congratulations on a beast of a brown and a great crew to boot. Cheers
So, we are from Wisconsin and in March of '21 we took a tandem kayak down the Colorado through Horseshoe Bend to Lee's Ferry, might have been your boat rental ? I've never seen so many trout and waterfowl in my life! I'm 66 and that week I knocked 2 off the bucket list, Angel's Landing and 2 days later down the Colorado. As I ran back to our vehicle to put the paid sticker on the dash I fell and broke my left toe and pulled my right hamstring! But, the boat wasn't leavin' without me. Love that area.
What’s the biggest rainbow you’ve seen at lee’s ferry? I fished it 23 years ago and have been thinking of going back now. I remember a 5wt wasn’t big enough.
It amazes me that a trout can get so big in a river I couldn’t even imagine seeing a fish like that I honestly wouldn’t believe it let alone catching one
Finally getting a chance to watch this one while I’m sitting at the vise, and wow what a day! Dope moments for all 3 guys. THESE are the days that we live for - this is why we spend countless dollars on gear, countless hours on the water. Absolutely love it.
Loved the video Ben. One of the most upbeat, buddy fishing videos you’ve made recently. “Good country there Kyle!” I can’t speak for everyone else, but it would be cool to see you do a more technical video on rowing techniques and how you manage different types of water. Thanks again for making the content. Cheers with a lagerado!
Holy Toledo. Fish of a lifetime. After six or so years of following your channel you've certainly lived up to the name. Love it! It's all about memories and for sure many other fisherman won't believe that story. But I will
For a guy who sucks at fly fishing, I think you did a pretty good job with that huge brown trout 😅...many congrats ...fish of a lifetime ...guess you'll be retiring from fly fishing now :)...glad your rod and set up etc was there for you too
Unreal Ben. Love how raw your reaction was. Best fly fishing video I’ve seen this year. What a beauty. Thanks for being real, no bullshit giant fish setups.
Such a cool float. You found one of the prehistoric units on that stretch - good job! Biggest one I've seen come out of there yet! Awesome to see it on video, thanks for sharing!
haha the stress in your voice when landing that EPIC fish is a feeling i know all to well. especially with trout, trying to land a beast but also making sure to not hurt it is battle all by itself. well done dude.
not often i see a quick release on a trophy fish... I gave you a thumbs up for that... most fisherman what 10 minutes of pictures at different angles then to release a exhausted fish that needs 10 minutes of reviving... nice job you guys
My favorite YT fly fishing vid of all time. Maybe not the "best" (whatever that means) but after faithfully watching your videos for a while, that catch and release was just an awesome display of good fortune meeting a finely tuned angler along with great teamwork from your companions. Just perfect man. I will think of this every time I put on my hoodie and hope that some fine day, I will suck a little less.
After catching a fish of that caliber so many thoughts run through your mind you basically just wanna sit back and enjoy your experience and see your buddys catch fish lol I love those days
Unbelievable. I was so nervous for you during that fight and my Mouth was wide open when I saw that monster. Congrats and thanks for keeping it wet! Nice job.
Ben, you really are a huge fly fisherman. Really appreciated the hat with the monster fish. But not really about the fish but being out there with people who are more excited than your are that you caught it.
If the dudes I used to fish with had caught that fish, they would have been hopping and hollering, measured it 20 times and taken a pic from every angle imaginable to let it go back in belly up. I like seeing someone who can handle their fishing
17:10 that gave me serious anxiety. I caught a 32” brown inland in Wisconsin on my fly rod and it was 2 lbs short of the inland state record. I’ve lost even larger on spinning rod and reel. Location will remain undisclosed until I catch the state record 😉
As a fellow cheddarhead please give me a hint, lol! I'm 66 and this year I've fished the Brule, Pine, Wolf and a couple others in the U.P. while kayaking with my wife. Landed some trout and smallies up to 3lbs. How bout you? Got any favorite regions you fish?
Congrats on catching that absolute dinosaur of a brown, looks like you need a bigger net for your boat now though, and if anyone questions it just point to this video.
Ben!! Dang brother, what an epic battle and fish!! That was incredible. That was an awesome day of fishing ... makes me miss rafting and fishing in Montana with my brothers! Keep up the great work, my friend. 🙂✌️🎣
One beautiful brown right there!! Your expression said it all Ben!! Congrats are in order Ben! That's why a lot of us get lost outdoors ON PURPOSE!! (: :)!
Damn. I miss that section of water. I've caught quite a few submarine sized rainbows in there, but that is by far the biggest brown I've seen in that stretch. Nice job!
Awsome fish and even better the way you treated it. Having the composure to say "Keep it head in the water" while doing so can possibly loose a fish of a lifetime says alot about you as an angler.
So completely impressed by your respect of that fish. In todays social media age that fish would have been manhandled for ten minutes of photos before release only to belly up later. Congratulations. Fish of a lifetime.
We have that problem in salt water too. I hate seeing people spend 10 minutes with a giant tarpon just for a monologue.
They keep a lot of fish out of the water longer than I would generally do, but still short enough for pretty high survival rates. I also know it's a lot harder to get clean releases off a boat, but I try to keep fish out of the water for 3 seconds max.
The best part of this video is how absolutely speechless Ben is after landing that monster. WOW. Well done sir.
Lol, I thought the same thing....when Ben is left speechless, it's been an epic day.
Yeah, it was funny how they didn’t talk for awhile. They were just speechless!
What flies and size are you using? and
It did fit in the net!
That's why it called Minnow Creek
The collective silence the moment after you let that fish go says it all.. those are the moments you live for. Congratulations man. Thanks for bringing us along for that ride.

Try the Salmon River in NY for the Fall spawning run - where i grew up or any of tbe Great Lakes rivers and streams.
Congrats Ben, that’s the fish of many lifetimes ! You deserve it, well done !
Bro, I've been guiding 27 + years at Lees Ferry and to hear another guide say you feel like your floating is great to hear! Congratulations on a beast of a brown and a great crew to boot. Cheers

@peteshallcross787 hello, it wasn't me. I only guide for fishing.
It's a beautiful office, ues.
What’s the biggest rainbow you’ve seen at lee’s ferry? I fished it 23 years ago and have been thinking of going back now. I remember a 5wt wasn’t big enough.
Now you can really focus on tenkara fishing.
nice one
It amazes me that a trout can get so big in a river I couldn’t even imagine seeing a fish like that I honestly wouldn’t believe it let alone catching one
Spechless here. The change in music made the anticipation even better. What a video and fish!
Finally getting a chance to watch this one while I’m sitting at the vise, and wow what a day! Dope moments for all 3 guys. THESE are the days that we live for - this is why we spend countless dollars on gear, countless hours on the water. Absolutely love it.
You should have checked that brown for his New Zealand passport!!! That is a beautiful fish! Holy cow! Nice catch dude!
Subbed because he didn’t say “let’s go!” Congrats on a magnificent catch!
The look on your face, Ben is priceless! Well done my friend. That was a hell of a fish!
Amazing fish! Congrats Ben! 100% deserved and love how it truly impacted you!

Wonder if the monster you caught spooled another guy and thats where the cast away fly line came from. Congratulations man, you earned that one! 💪
Three guys on a rockin' float, streamer slinging and hooking up. Fun stuff all the way down. Thanks for the ride !
Holy Toledo. Fish of a lifetime. After six or so years of following your channel you've certainly lived up to the name. Love it! It's all about memories and for sure many other fisherman won't believe that story. But I will
Respect for that quick release.

Congrats - fish of a lifetime - love your videos, and your attitude to life ❤️
WOW!, That fish was HUGE! Great video, awesome fish. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations! What an awesome fish. Your expressions told the story. 👍🏼
I've never been happier for anyone on you tube to get their hands on a fish! Great video Ben
haha the stress in your voice when landing that EPIC fish is a feeling i know all to well. especially with trout, trying to land a beast but also making sure to not hurt it is battle all by itself. well done dude.
Wow, what a great day. Everyone caught nice fish and that brown you caught, just amazing and a great memory. 😊
A 36-inch of this color in this condition is unreal!! Congratulations!
Wow, great fish! I was just waiting for the Roy Scheider voiceover - “You’re gonna need a bigger net!”
Wow! Just wow! Been fishing for a long time and I’ve never seen fish that big. Good job
thats insane man and ive never been more impressed with how fast you let it go! Most people would have taken pics for 30mins congrats
not often i see a quick release on a trophy fish... I gave you a thumbs up for that... most fisherman what 10 minutes of pictures at different angles then to release a exhausted fish that needs 10 minutes of reviving... nice job you guys
I can't even imagine. Thank you for taking good care of her.
Ben was speechless?😅. Fish of a lifetime 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What an amazing trout! My 35"+ was April 93. Watching you land that brought back some memories. Thanks for sharing yours.
Nice Jurassic fish!
I hope if I catch a fish of that caliber i can handle it as well as you did. Fantastic. Congrats.
a nice PTJ pellet fish,no doubt
I would like this twice if I could.
My favorite YT fly fishing vid of all time. Love how fast you released that fish! Many people would have taken 100 photos and probably killed the fish in the process.
He has the whole thing on video.
YES - I also thought about that.. They way to go..!!!
The dead silence after you let her go, everyone exhausted and in shock. So cool!
Dude, when you picked that fish up out of the net I got goosebumps! F*%king INCREDIBLE!
I screamed "OH NO!" when it fell out of the net. Insane freak of a fish!!!! Congrats Ben, nice work crew!
After catching a fish of that caliber so many thoughts run through your mind you basically just wanna sit back and enjoy your experience and see your buddys catch fish lol I love those days
ok, that was a big fish, a monster. I think that would round out the 2023 fishing season for anyone. Thanks
Unbelievable. I was so nervous for you during that fight and my
Mouth was wide open when I saw that monster. Congrats and thanks for keeping it wet! Nice job.
Amazing fish! I saw a brown that size swim under my canoe in a reservoir once. I’ve been dreaming about catching him for years.
Never thought I’d see a speechless Ben…..even forgot to name the beast….awesome to see!
Ben, you really are a huge fly fisherman. Really appreciated the hat with the monster fish. But not really about the fish but being out there with people who are more excited than your are that you caught it.
Nice job & excellent handling of the fish too many folks mishandle a great fish like that
That was fun. Nice fish. Like the quick release.
I am hooked on naming you fish - all named after movie stars and a quote, Mr. Trivia Man. Scarlett, tomorrow is another day!
That was beautiful handling. "Head in the water please." Is where it's at man. Let's goo!!! Great work doods
I commend your ability to stay calm, and most importantly the care of the fish! Congratulations!! Hope you buy a bigger net...
Jaws the river edition..." We're gonna need a Bigger net" that was incredible
That video made me feel warm and fuzzy. I think I’ll watch it a couple more times🥰
If the dudes I used to fish with had caught that fish, they would have been hopping and hollering, measured it 20 times and taken a pic from every angle imaginable to let it go back in belly up. I like seeing someone who can handle their fishing
Wow thanks for sharing the epic catch!
That is a day you dream about. Great scenery and beautiful fish!

Livin up to your name!! Great fish dude.
Congrats on catching that absolute dinosaur of a brown, looks like you need a bigger net for your boat now though, and if anyone questions it just point to this video.
Great fish! When I saw the description of 36" brown and then saw the size of the net on your boat, I thought... its gonna be a circus...
Ben!! Dang brother, what an epic battle and fish!! That was incredible. That was an awesome day of fishing ... makes me miss rafting and fishing in Montana with my brothers! Keep up the great work, my friend. 🙂✌️🎣

Great fish! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing!
Damn. I miss that section of water. I've caught quite a few submarine sized rainbows in there, but that is by far the biggest brown I've seen in that stretch. Nice job!
Few things can make a grown man cry. That brown is one of them!
That fish was AMAZING dude, nice
The best part of this for me is watching you hold that massive brown with a hat on that says I suck at fly fishing. Honestly tho beautiful fish man.
Fantastic release! Great job gentlemen, great job!
Man that’s the best fishing day I’ve seen in my entire life!!!
After landing that thing you can take that hat off now. Nice work.
Great fish. Talk about your gear for us new to fly fishing.
That was a MASSIVE FISH! Congratulations!
Well done! And I agree, I don't think I've ever seen you speechless.
Holy shit! That’s like one of the fish you see mounted at the old general store from 1978!
Ben, at a loss for words....
beastly. helluva fish. pretty awesome fishery to have a fish grow to that size!!
Awsome fish and even better the way you treated it. Having the composure to say "Keep it head in the water" while doing so can possibly loose a fish of a lifetime says alot about you as an angler.
