I understand basic Sanskrit. Unfortunately, there are very few people in India who are fluent in Sanskrit. Many Indians think Sanskrit is a very difficult language to learn, but almost all the Indian languages are derived from it. We use many Sanskrit words in daily conversation without realizing. If we can be fluent in English, a foreign language, why not in Sanskrit, the civilizational language of this country for thousands of years? I hope we can revive Sanskrit in this country.

I am not sure of other states in India, but am west bengali, and many people here who have studied in bengali medium school, sanskrit is a must thing that is taught (atleast that was there not sure if it is there in future generation or not) and i have neighbours who have triple MA in sanskrit, many people in here knew foreign languages and sanskrit fluently but now people are pushing their children to english medium schools like ICSE, english med schools were always there here but it has become more common now and am from ICSE board and I was never taught about my culture's history and ofcourse not sanskrit and so we dont find any need to learn the language as curriculum is very competitive. our education system needs reform, mad competition should be less and we need to be taught basic sanskrit, if my Parents knew sanskrit hindi bengali english fluently and also graduated decades back then when Internet was not there, I guess future generation can surely do that and should not be difficult. we just need to train our mindsets that way, the unnecessary competition of being top scorers without really absorbing much knowledge needs to be stopped for real!

    7:32 I get your point,
the answer is, many people see ved vyas as someone who compiled the knowledge along with some of his own inputs.
You see, In Hinduism we are not required to believe in anything we are free to question even the validity of The Vedas and still be a hindu, you can read "nyāyasutra", it's an important hindu scripture, it describes about the way of reasoning, logic, questioning, epistemology etc basically it talks about how to get knowledge without being impartial.
You can also read about the "Nāsadiya Suktam" which is in Rigveda, it questions even the validity of supreme being, it says whether there is a supreme being or not we don't know, From this Suktam comes charvaka philosophy which is an atheistic school of philosophy within the umbrella of Hinduism/Sanātan.

Hey Zuzana, Maharishi (Great Sage) Veda Vyasa is the compiler of Vedic knowledge. When the writing documentation system developed in India around 1500 BCE, he was responsible for documenting the entire Vedic knowledge which till that time was orally transmitted through Guru Shishya Parampara (Teacher Disciple Heritage). I think this will clear your doubt.

The Vedas are said to be eternal scriptures. They were written down only when people's intellectual capacity started decreasing and writing became important. Otherwise it was being passed down orally before it. They are eternal in nature means that a advanced yogi can tap into its frequency and it will be available to him. Thanks ❣

fun fact: martial arts was of indian origin called as kalairipaitu the oldest form of martial arts in the world mentioned in the purana as well ❤❤
Vyasa is the legendary author of the Mahabharata, Vedas and Puranas, some of the most important works in the Hindu tradition. He is also called Veda Vyāsa (वेदव्यासः, veda-vyāsaḥ, “the one who classified the Vedas”) or Krishna Dvaipāyana (referring to his dark complexion and birthplace).
Vyas Gufa is a small cave in Himalayan mountain, in Mana village near Badrinath. It is believed that Maharshi Vyas had composed Mahabharata and 18 Puranas in this cave. There is also another cave, Ganesh Gufa, nearby where Lord Ganesha had written the epic Mahabharata dictated by Maharshi Vyas.
Sage Vyasa was the one who compiled the Vedas. He came up with the great epic Mahabharata. After conceiving this idea, he started to think of ways he could put this story out into the world. Lord Brahma told was the one who told Vyasa to make Ganesha his scribe.

In this process he, also, created different branches of learning, and as an aside, he was one of the greatest teacher, who taught, a plethora of students. In fact, to this day, when you hear a pandit reciting the vedas, anywhere in, Bharat, he is reciting the way, the first teacher, Ved Vyasa, taught. This is the greatness of the man.

The main issue is not lacking the knowledge of Sanskrit since plenty of translated texts are readily available but that we've already accepted the modern theories about everything. When we find contradictions we therefore tend to stick to our modern theories and dismiss those ancient texts as mere earlier attempts to understand the subject. We cannot really fill a cup that is already full. 🙏

When one says 'written', it simply means compiled into written format. Bharat has had an oral tradition of passing down knowledge from teacher (Guru) to Student for a very long time before shifting to written format because anything recorded on palm leaves is at a risk of getting disposed off easily or getting stolen. So yes, the Sage had compiled everything he knew across sources into textual format.

ved vyasa a deep scholar , connected, blessed by gods, compiled (with his team) and decoded various ancient texts.. lot of knowledge handed to him with deep meditation post research of texts and simplify while not missing any key points... able to experience and validate various extenal factors that can positively or negatively affect various types of life on earth/cosmos, env, events etc through purity of internal reflection and meditation.. that level of purity that could be achieved then..cannot be achieved now due to major changes in cosmos ( earth included) which leads to less pure environment to connect with various facets of existence..however its a cycle that can come back anywhere in cosmos based on intersection of key factors in universe coming together to create a new spark.

    Structure of Knowledge:
*All knowledge is divided into 2 parts i.e. Para & Apara
*Para means that which is beyond; which is obtained through the grace of Guru
Apara means that which is not beyond- that which is enumerated and which is studied under a preceptor. Apara is divided into two types- Shruti & Smriti
It’s is said in scriptures “Anantai Vai Vedah" ( The Vedas are unending)
*Veda comes from Sanskrit root Vid which means to know. The knowledge which is the basis of all creation, which decrees the nature of things from stars to atoms is Veda. When Rishi’s dived deep into meditation they perceived aspects of this knowledge.
*Shruti- that which was heard- is manifestation of knowledge that has been existing since the beginning of creation and perceived by Rishi’s & brought into the realm of expression.
*Smriti- that which is remembered- comes from experience of Mantra durasth tas- seer of knowledge
*4 Vedas, 4 Upvedas, 6 Vedanga & 6 Upanga constitute the Shruti whereas Itihas, Purana & Agama constitute Smriti. In each of 4 vedas there are different Pathas or style. Each version is called Shakha.
*The Rig Veda consists the hymns in the praise of various divinities.
The Yajurveda is the practical application of Rgvedic hymns in Yajna or sacrifice.
SamVeda deals with the musical chanting of verses. Atharvaveda contains mantras with which one wards off misfortunes and brings about destruction of ones enemies.
*Each Veda divided into Samhita: These are the verses or hymns. Samhita forms the base much text books.
*Brahmanas: These are practical application of verses. They are commentaries on 4 Vedas dealing with proper performance of rituals.
*Aranyaka: means belonging to wilderness. They discuss the significance of rituals & meaning behind rituals. These could be equivalent to research papers of modern times where scientists discuss significance and workings of nature.
*Upanishad- Sanskrit meaning sitting close to the Master/ Guru. There are 3 different interpretations. Shankaracharya Adwait, Madhavacharya Dwait & Ramanujacharya Vishistdwait. Shankaracharya wrote commentaries on 11 upanishads which are considered to be the main upanishads.
*Each veda has an upveda (like sub veda). Rigveda which is concerned with Philosophy & Structure has Sthapatya as it’s Upveda. Yajurveda concerned with method of Yajnas has Dhanurveda as it’s upveda. Samaveda associated with rhythms has Gandharv as it’s upveda and Atharveda with Ayurveda ( Ayurveda=medicine or how to keep ones mind and body healthy)
*Vedanga. The knowledge of veda is so vast that we need some help in learning all of this mix Vedangs support the veda and enables us to use in daily life.
*1st is Shiksha- method of learning, where we learn sounds of alphabets where they produced from & how to learn.
2nd is Nirukta-meaning of sounds.Stringing alphabets gives meaning to them.Deciding which words means what is role of nirukta.
3rd is Vyakaran- Grammar. Now we have words. We need to make sentences. This is science of grammar. Vyakaran & Nirukta give meaning to what we talk.
*Chandas- The Rhythm. Even though we know the meaning of shlokas, we need to chant it in a particular rhythm. This is Chandas.
Jyotish- is the Time. There is time for everything & jyotish tells us about that eg. Suprabhatam(early morning) is appropriate to chant in morning.
*There are 3 parts of Jyotish- Astronomy Astrology and remedies.
Astronomy is an exact science which helps us to calculate the position of planet duration of astronomical phenomena phases of moon eclipses etc.
Astrology talks about effects of these movements on our life.
3rd aspect is upaya or methods to remedy these influences. The last one Kalpa- This vedanga decides what is appropriate for what situation. Purpose is to create harmony & Happiness in our lives. As truth is multidimensional. There are 6 upangas/ Shad darshan.
*6 philosophies inherent in vaidic scriptures. Nyaya- deals with logic. How do we know what we have studied is correct or not. how to recognise the proper logic. So Nyaya is abstract logic. Vaishesika- which is specific. What is special about object vaishesika answers.
*Vaishesika talks about matter & what it is made up of.
Sankhya- where vaishesika goes into microscopic, Sankhya goes into macroscopic. Origin & Size of universe, what are the stars, how many lokas (dimensions)
*Sankhya also concerned with analysis & divides creation into purusha & prakriti(masculine and feminine or the duality). The three gunas (good attribute) , panchkosha (5 elements)etc. These discussions found in Sankhya. Yoga- where Sankhya analyses, yoga synthesises. Yoga is not just asanas but a whole Philosophy. Refer Patanjali Yoga Sutra.
*After we obtained depth in yoga & meditation 🧘‍♂️ The Puja or Yajna becomes more effective. Thus poorv meemansa deals with yajna, temples etc. Uttar Meemansa or Vedanta- Literally means the end of veda. It deals with supreme knowledge in Vedas.
*Itihasa & Purana- Itihasa means it happened like that. Purana- Pure nava means that which is new in town. Thus this knowledge is so relevant & beyond time. It’s not surprising that most beautiful tools in spirituality- Bhagwat Geeta & Yog Vashishth - form part of these Itihasa
*Agama: Even though ultimate knowledge sees advaita everywhere, yet for the mind. Worship is the easiest tool to reach the divine. These Agamas consider 1 form as supreme. Ganpathya- Ganesha as supreme. Shaiva- Shiva, Shakti- mother goddess, vaikansa& panchatantra - Vishnu.

well putting it simply, the Hindi is written in Devanagari script which is the same script used to write Sanskrit (at least the most of it) so we can read it speak it but understanding is a bit different. As you may know that most Indian language is related to Sanskrit so we have words and sentence which might be similar to Sanskrit, so we can understand that part a bit. But other than that very few people know and understand Sanskrit even though we are taught Sanskrit from grade 5th to 8th (it's not that deep just basic Sanskrit).
i think the government wants people to know and learn Sanskrit and they often launch some program but it's not on the level of Israel where they had massive push to speak and write Hebrew, but still there's an increase in number of Sanskrit teachers and professors schools and colleges are hiring so maybe they will give a big push in the future.
I myself don't speak Sanskrit that much but my older cousin did his PHD in Sanskrit and for some time everyone was making fun of him but not anymore and i am planning to learn Sanskrit from him in future, also i want to make an online repository for scriptures in future as it will require some money and free time, although there are some people who started doing this so maybe i will lend my hand.
sorry for making such a huge comment if anyone read all that.

Disclaimer: I am in no way an academic or expert on Vedas/Ancient Indian texts/Sanskrit. Having said that I would like to add my two bits here FYI.
    1. Do Indians speak/write/know/understand Sanskrit? Ans: No. Absolutely not. As per 2011 census (the last one done in India) less than 0.002% of Indians spoke/comprehend Sanskrit. However there is a lot of Sanskrit around us in India. Understand this. All Sanatan/Hindu religious rituals are performed in Sanskrit. This is a massive usage. But the thing is these are hymns or shlokas and other ancient texts that are chanted in rituals or used as 'mottos' for Governmental agencies e.g. Satyameva jayate (Truth will prevail) etc etc. Many Indians study Sanskrit as a third or fourth language in school (this includes yours truly) for a couple of years. That is rudimentary learning and is seldom retained over time, unless the individual pursues an academic career in Sanskrit, which is miniscule in number. There is only one village in Karnataka state where the local language is Sanskrit, if I am not massively wrong, this village is one of a kind. What about the priests/purohits who perform the religious rituals in Sanskrit? They mostly memorize the stuff, although some may have basic or advance knowledge of Sanskrit. Now understand this. Vedic Sanskrit is very different from the post-Panini Sanskrit (Panini was a 4th or 5th century BCE linguist who codified the Sanskrit grammar that is used to this day). So knowing Sanskrit does not automatically mean a person will comprehend Vedic texts in its entirety. So, Sanskrit being a vastly understood language in India or anywhere is not true.
    2. Do Indians read Vedas/Ancient Indian texts? Ans: Again. Absolutely not. Not even in translation. Most Indians have a good understanding of the two 'Itihaasas'(ancient historical texts/epics) Ramayana and Mahabharata from various sources: verbal storytelling traditions/TV series/comic books/translated abridged and unabridged editions/movies/drama etc etc. Other than that almost no Indian (except the academia or religious learners) read anything significant from our ancient texts. They might read some hymns for praying or some may have read The Bhagvad Geeta at most. This number is also quiet small. I personally have read The Rig Veda, The Bhagvad Geeta, Vishnu Puran, Kautilya's Arthshastra (Penguin English translations) and of course Ramayana and Mahabharata (in my mother tongue Bengali), and be assured I am a very, very small minority, this I say without any sense of pride (I mention it here since the subject calls for it). It's important to note here that The Rig Veda is written in a very poetic and philosophical way, things are often vague and peculiar and need interpretation. This is why the narrator in the video says 'one needs a guru/teacher to comprehend the texts'. This is absolutely true, but I can tell you if you actually take a dive in you will discover how illuminating ancient Indian philosophy is. Problem is, Indians do not read Rig Veda or other logical ancient texts like Arthashastra which has lead to a poorly-understood, ritualistic belief system which is mostly devoid of logic and the beautiful and pristine concepts have become dogmatic practices. For example, ancient Vedic people practiced both cremation as well as burial and a specific ritual was chosen over the other according to the situation, not some arbitrary illogical reason. It's all there in Rig Veda. Today if you tell a Hindu about burying a Hindu they will call you a heretic. Same goes for cow meat but I don't want to stir up an inferno here with an ill-educated/ignorant mob.
    3. Regarding your question about Vedvyas or one particular saint writing all the texts, how is that even possible? Ans: All I have to say is this. We are dealing with a vast body of work which was composed thousands of years ago and over a thousand of years. Just to let you know that of all the ancient/historical Sanskrit manuscripts that exist today roughly only 10% has been read and translated. 90% of the texts are still unread. Who knows what lies there in. Academicians are working on them but the progress is slow, as the scholars are few. So its important that we keep this in mind: these are very old texts with arcane customs and peculiar way of narrations. Symbolism, poeticism, lyricism, rhythmic timing etc. were the basis of these narratives, therefore one must not take things literally but philosophically. One must set apart personal beliefs and study these critically as historical/anthropological documents. So to answer your question of course one person didn't compose the texts. And any logical person will know that and not fall for blind religious belief (thankfully Indic religions are not absolutist faith systems like say Islam, where scriptures have to be believed literally). Ancient Indian texts were formed over hundreds of years. The oldest ones, The Vedas were not even written. they were composed and memorized through the generations and were hence called 'Shrutis' meaning 'memorized through hearing.'
    4. Ancient Indian texts are a large collection of incredibly well developed ideas of science, politics, war, philosophy, education, medicine, law, music, literature, poetry among many other things. Do keep in mind they are old, so some ideas/knowledge must be wrong in the contemporary sense, but when you compare this knowledge system with Abrahamic knowledge system one can see Indian system was millennia ahead. Some of the concepts are so complex, they are almost contemporary to particle physics or cosmology of our time in essence, if not in equations. Big Bang, Big Bounce, time dimension, multiple dimension, parallel worlds, wave functions, atomic theories. I'm not kidding. By now you hope you realize I am not one of them 'bhakt' type (blind-believers), so I wouldn't bs. It is sad how the West till this day malign India and its ancient past as something primitive, but that is actually a defensive stance, a veiled inferiority complex, as the West knows their ancestors were hanging in the trees and living in the caves eating raw meat when the ancient Indians were doing maths and cosmology and building megacities with advanced sanitary systems. Its a vast subject. Exploring it would take years, but if you are curious, my suggestion would be to dive in with a free mind and by beginning with authentic English translation. Learning Sanskrit and studying the original is reaching a bit too much, unless you are some mega-freak Vedic scholar to be, lol, then sure.
    5. Although an atheist, I was born to urban Hindu parents who are believers. Me, I do not practice, never visit a temple, eat all kinds of meat including beef and is considered a low-life or even traitor (lol) by some of the family and friends. Thing is Sanatani/Hinduism in its essence is a fluid and free system: even if you are an atheist you are still a Hindu (Charvakism). Also being Hindu is closer to a civilizational/geographical denomination than a religious denomination but it'll become too long to explain this. Anyway, instead of being a ritualist and a blind believer, it is better to seek truth in the ancient Indian texts/traditions and the Harappan (Indus-Saraswati) Civilization through systemic, critical self-learning.
    6. The topic is very close to me. I am in the process of writing a novel (contemporary crime) that touches upon on some aspects of Harappan civilization and the subsequent fake Aryan myth cooked up by the wh*te-supremac*st Germans and British colonial criminals. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this never-ending comment. Hope you had the patience to read it haha. Cheers. (Excuse typos/errors, I went in a flow :P)

Rishis have existed on earth even when there were no or negligible human population on earth. When you see a halo around their pictorial depictions, it is done to show they are divine beings. White aura comes out of enlightened beings. Thanks❣

You are absolutely right actually, the Vedas have not been written by just one person.
🔷 Firstly, you need to undestand that the Hymns in the Vedas are called to be 'Revealed Texts' to these 'rishis' or sages, who pondered and meditated to discover these hymns which have per say, always existed but they discover it, its like gravity having always exited was discovered by Newton, likewise these rishis can be an equivalent to the philosophical ponderers and greatest thinkers of the ages unravelling the intricasies of the existence.
🔷 Now about 'Ved Vyas', let us first understand the meaning of his name itself and you'll understand his contribution, it stands for 'The Compiler of the Vedas'. So basically, 'Ved Vyas' compiled all these texts which were existing or discovered by various 'Rishis' or Sages but not structured in a proper format and chronology for ordinary people's consumption to understand these hymns along with the commentaries of the rishis to whom these 'Sacred Hymns' were 'Revealed'.
🔷There are very valid arguments to be made if Ved Vyas was just one person or the name of a group of people who worked towards this project, I personally believe this to be the case.
🔷Now about the 'Puranas' they were wholly devised by Ved Vyas but since they are historical records they were constantly updated by the 'Rishis' of the times regarding lineages, etc.
Hopefully that helped😁, happy to help more, Namaste 🙏(Interesting Fact: Namaste stands for ' I bow to the divine within you ' )

14:51 I can understand Sanskrit a little bit but that is Classical Sanskrit, there are two versions of Sanskrit from two different time periods, Vedic Sanskrit and the modern Classical Sanskrit, Vedic Sanskrit is a little difficult to understand because it was of the earlier period, it was sort of a free flow version before the proper rules of the language came in or formed and I think you already know that Sanskrit was the first language that became a structured language with a set or defined grammatical rules etc.
P.S.- some texts are in Classical Sanskrit and some in Vedic Sanskrit, and also we lost many of the texts when the Invaders destroyed different universities or learning centers of India like Nalanda (about 8-9 million texts were destroyed in nalanda by khilji), Sharda peeth, Vikramshila, Takshshila etcetera.

It is not just one man writing all these scriptures. Maharishi Veda Vyasa and his father Maharishi Parasara had Universities with 100,000s of Rishi, Munie and students, where they first time consolidated and first time encrypted what was already known vedic knowledge in the form of Shruti (spoken from Guru-to-Shishya). If you search details of each of the 18 Purana scriptures, you will find collection or research and school of thoughts by individual Maharishi dedicated for that subject. For example, Markhandeya Purana is collection of thoughts from Maharishi Markhandeya, Narada Purana is of DevaRishi Narada, Skanda Purana is of BhramhaRishi Skanda, etc.

Reciting vedas is actually an oral tradition. But due to the declining human intellect through ages* Sri Veda Vyasa had to compile it and written down. The oral tradition is continue to be practiced to this day and is the oldest traditional and got UNESCO heritage tag, the written down scripture Rigveda itself is atleast 3500 years old so we dont know when the oral tradition actually started. Every Sanskrit Verse have rythm and tune (Samaveda) hence a grammatical mistake can change the rythm and tune thats how a perfect continuous system was created by the enlightened Sages.
    * According to Hinduism the time is cyclical and the Human intellect and body changes during these ages.
In Yuga time cycle the ages see a gradual decline of dharma, wisdom, knowledge, intellectual capability, life span, emotional and physical strength.
Satya Yuga - Virtue reigns supreme. Human stature was 21 cubits (33 ft 6 inches). Average human lifespan was 100,000 years.
Treta Yuga - There was 3 quarter virtue and 1 quarter sin. Normal human stature was 14 cubits (22 ft 4 inches). Average human lifespan was 10,000 years.
Dwapara Yuga - There was 1 half virtue and 1 half sin. Normal human stature was 7 cubits (11 ft 2 inches). Average human lifespan was 1,000 years.
Kali Yuga - There is 1 quarter virtue and 3 quarter sin. Normal human stature is 3.5 cubits (5 ft 3 inches). Average human lifespan will be 100 years.
In the present days we may be said to live in a Kali Yuga, which is said to have started in 3102 BCE with the end of the Mahabarata(Dwapra Yuga). This date is also considered by many Hindus to be the day that Lord Krishna left Earth and went to abode.

So it is always hard to believe that one person in the past can do/write/conceive philosophical concepts that are incredibly multi-layered/metaphorical in nature. IF you can find Hindu understanding of time (Yugas) and how human anatomy changed through these Yugas it will be mind boggling and senseless even. Satya Yuga humans were zillion times more capable of what we are capable of doing today.

in our school we learnt Sanskrit as compulsory till high school and French , English came later . Rishi Vyasa wrote the Puranas , but there are so many rishis who contributed to the knowledge bank . why in India we are more reasured that the were a thing to our culture in terms of our contemporary upbringing , is that lot of the modern science , including quantum science is rediscovering the knowledge that was written down by these rishis .so whether Vyasa who wrote the Puranas is beleivable or not is not the question , but unfortunately western science erasures these ancient texts of its legitimacy , and there is probably more to tally as science progresses and some of us Indians had too beleive in our own heritage often because of the western intellects approval and that is unfortunate .Therefore decolonisation in the head is key to rediscovery of the Vedas and ancient knowledge that is taking steam . And Btw , Hindus dont only believe the concept of " creation , preservation and destruction " represented by Brahma , Vishnu and Shiva main functions . But when you see that ancient worlds were very evolved in a different way not by material and texture of modern construt ,but of a different time and culture which got destroyed , and again recreated upto the current times which will perish in its own way , untill a new world and society will evolve in the relay of evolution . Most people the world will end but not literally any time soon before the sun dies on os or our planet loses the suns orbiy one day . but untill then the relay of new worlds and civilizations would have been born and died .
