    So, the next mod should clearly be a water injection kit to help cool the intake charge and keep it in the sweet spot of 30-40 degrees.

    OEMs will usually add torque limits to various gears, pretty common. You should be able to log SAE engine load and final spark OBD PIDs on the dyno. This will give you the best indication if the ECM is reducing load in various gears. Maybe the boost control isn't fully adapted with the lower delta P across the turbine so the proportional in the boost controller is over-correcting at higher mass flows. Pretty common for this stuff to happen with aftermarket mods as we never test it with low cell count metal matrix cats.

      do you work for an OEM? I was under the impression that toyota petrol boost control is open loop not closed loop but i could be wrong.

    • @AndrewEG
      @AndrewEG 3 года назад +2

      @@OFFTAPnz yes I work on pre production OEM calibration for a German manufacturer. Toyota use either Hitachi or Denso controls and the boost control is based on turbo turbine power pre control with a slight proportional derivative control. Most OEs will have boost control that is modelled which is multiply levels more complicated that aftermarket ECUs.

    I can totally see why Toyota chose the smaller IC, for regular use and the occasional amateur track day/ twisty roads, it's good for response with smaller diameter pipes and IC.
    plus the car heats up quicker for emissions, it's probably one of few ways for a car like this to exist in today's market. the good part is we can change it :D

I added a Burger Motorsports JB4 on Map 1 in 4th gear made 217whp on 91, 234whp with a blend of 91 and something I'm keeping under my hat. Only tested to Map 4 = 251whp. It has the ability to run 12's in the 1/4 mile. It's done 9.2@78.5 on Map 1 with 91 octane. Only second time at the strip, no weight out of it. I can get into the 13's on 91. I don't care about circuit racing/hot lapping. We can compare FWD 1.6L 4 cyl vs 3 cyl AWD.

      He needs water methanol injection, much more effective. I don't why everybody wants to be a parts changer. The car has an intercooler, make it work better. Replacing it does nothing when ambient temps go way up in the summertime. It's only slightly better than stock at that point. He can pick up a full second without changing anything even if he already has. That is what I'm out to prove with my Forte GT.

      Any downpipe on the stock turbo is a waste on modern turbo cars the most you'll get is 10-15. You would be better off getting better short times. 10hp is about a tenth but dropping your 60 from 1.95 down to 1.85 is 3 tenths in a turbo car. AWD cars get down into the 1.5's with some work.

      @@MotiveVideo So your still one of those noise maker guys. I know you have fast cars Hawkins but your in my world of small turbo engines and noise doesn't equate to performance. I picked up 65whp with just a tune and different fuels. I don't care about intake noise and the stock exhaust snaps and crackles a little, must be that I'm 50. I care about whooping arse

    If history has taught us anything.. it shud be safe to say.. one of the most common power mods for proper power is to do the rods.. it means u can push the car to the next power bracket.. go one step further.

    • @MotiveVideo
      @MotiveVideo  3 года назад +10

      Huh? Stock supra engine has gone low 9s. Stock RB26 bottom end has gone 9s and the list goes on. Bad tuning 20 years a fo is what broke rods. Modern tech and tuning means the days of needing rods and pistons early on are gone.
