Also you will have to manually check the sublimation ink and can refill any time. Sound like you are good to go. But make sure you set up your computer and visit www.epson.com/support/ will send video if you haven't watched, also to setup print preferences and colors (send link)
If you already have setup and download print drivers and all, skip to 9min and 27second marker for the rest ruclips.net/video/aLpdCW_yQkw/видео.html

I have a workforce 7840 and I'm looking to change it to sublimation, it uses 812xl ink and it cost like a 100 dollars and I don't want to keep buying that ink. Can I change this printer to sublimation even tho I already used it? If so, how can I do it?
Hello. Before you decide to convert this printer to sublimation, please be aware you will still have to buy chips every time printer say low ink. Epson EcoTank 15000 all you have to do is fill sublimation ink (prints 13x19s & 11x17s too). But as asked here a link give you direction: www.etsy.com/search?q=wf%207840%20chips
@@diywithkenny8399 ok so it's not worth it to chage it cause it would be the same.
Hello. The link above comment would be cheaper, the rest will depend on your situation and/or personal/business model. So works or best ootions for you.
@@diywithkenny8399 so every time the ink runs out I have to buy those chip and also the ink when it's finish from the bottle?
No the chip and printer thinks regular ink and runs out; you will have to manually watch your cartridges to refill as need. BUT once chip expires have to buy and replace, there is no software, chip rest devices, or infinite chips yet. Why i recommend Ecotank 15000
Hello Kenny i forgot to add my micro chips are not staying on....is there some type of tape I can use?

@@diywithkenny8399 Thank you so much. I felt so disorganized with trying this conversion. My et-2720 sublimation conversion was very easy.
@@marleymarley1360 Welcome. Thanks for watching.
Please help someone!!! ;( Just got all the ink installed into this printer and it will NOT work! It prints but it's like there isnt any ink. The paper is completely blank...So frustrating
Hello, when you filled the sublimation ink, did you take off the near the back the color rubber part and use that for the plug? [When you filled, you move the plastic rubber that not color.]
Fast forward vid to about 3:30 when I remove cartridge.. you should see the color rubber part where you refill ink, i took that off from the rear from refill cartridge
Watch this and forward to 6min
ruclips.net/video/PI5RadxJX8M/видео.html
The clear plug is where I put the ink in and the colored plug is in the other spot
The clear plug is where I put the ink in and the colored plug is in the other spot
If you kept the cartridge full by filling the ink periodically do you think you would still run into that error?
Regardless you will have to monitor the sublimation ink, so refill as needed. Issue is the chip life & replacing every time the printer warning "low ink".
@@diywithkenny8399 Thank you so much for getting back to me! I did find someone who sells the refills with the chilp already in them, just to confirm s each time this printer says low ink I would have to go and buy these chip cartridges each time?
Hey when I refill my cartridges I have lots of air bubbles. Can I still use them with no problems? If not, how do I get rid of em

I ran into another dilemma tho. I just setup my printer for the first time. With the refillable cartridges and ink, but when I do test prints. My pages are blank, and now my black ink is half empty. Any idea what I should do
That video I sent you should just backtrack, did you download the "Recommended Drivers" from www.epson.com/support (then find your printer, then download).
@@diywithkenny8399 I got all the drivers installed before and did the initial setup with the sub ink cartridges. I think where I messed up is when my ink was charging, I still had the vent plugs plugged in because it’s still printing blanks…
Will a ciss system work?
Sorry what is a ciss system, I dunno?
@@diywithkenny8399 it's a continuous ink system. I have been researching the 7840 and found the ciss system. It seems as if you never have to change the cartridge because there is a reservoir that feeds ink into the cartridges continuously.
oh lol i know what it is now. Never knew the name. No so far because of pandemic the claim is chip shortage for whatever reason. So will need the infinite chip or chip reset device for that. Be nice to have, have done all my research... better off getting a eco tank 15000
May I ask a question.... I accidentally broke the original magenta chip on my WF 7840. I followed your instructions on converting my WF to sublimate. I went to the Epson store and purchased a new magenta ink and changed the chip but now its telling me that I'm low on magenta ink; however, my chamber is full? I have done several test prints to no avail. My printer is indicting that my ink is being used but no print out? Could you help me out.
Have you done any firmware updates? Also when replacing the cartridge with aftermarket chips, where did you get them from?
@@diywithkenny8399 I purchased a magenta single cartridge from Epson. I contacted Epson and they suggested that I do several head cleaning; however, to no avail?
@@pizeno60 Did you do a "Firmware" update on printer?
@@diywithkenny8399 yes sir I did
@@pizeno60 That is kinda weird if you are using a Epson chip? Have you tried to remove all cartridges, then turn off power for 30min, and plig back in, place cartridges in?
I had my printer for 5 months now, converted it awhile back. My black is showing the x stating it's not recognizing the ink. I changed it with a new chip twice. This is frustrating
Hmm. Have you tried print head cleaning? Where did you get the chips to swap the black color?
Also make sure the chip is facing up correctly (4 copper things top and more copper on bottom). I have switched chips with no problems. It is either a print head cleaning (need to run like 5x), check the chip placement. You got this 😎
Etsy, the other three works fine. Just the black. I'll do the head cleaning. It's so annoying. I'm regretting of ever converting
Dang sorry to hear that, it does take few extra to maintain.. even for the ecotanks. But least with ecotanks can do the print head cleaning, and no worries of chips. We need that chip rest or chipless firmware, but have to wait.
Hi Kenny! I was only able to get my printer to print 3 sublimation sheets and suddenly just won't print anymore - any suggestions?
Sorry to hear! Check printer panel for:
Is the printer saying low ink? Then change chips!.
Also have to manually check to refill cartridges to see sublimation ink inside there.
Then run a print nozzle test. Let me know.
well, the cartridges are new and filled and worked for 3 sheets then it stated "printer can't read cartridges..." I then removed and replaced but now it just won't print - Should I move to just buying an epson eco tank 15000?
Hmmm. Could just power off, trouble shoot that way. But yea if you can get ET 15000, less stress.. just get the et sublimation ink from www.cosmoink.com which will have the nozzles to fill up. Hope you get it working WF.
Hey Juan, just thought of something.. double check the chips, see they are stable whem replacing back into printer
Hello! I'm getting a error message for my magnets. Its reads all colors except for that one. I've changed ink cartridges, primed it, shook it a few times...and nothing is working!! Help me please...
Carefully remove cartridge, make sure chip is snug and facing up right, also your color rubber seal should be where you fill in ink, no clear rubber seal (throw away) and magenta color rubber seal near front where chip is. Carefully place cartridge back. But main thing is make sure chip facing correctlly and not loose
Also did you shave the bottom plastic nub part where chip goes?
@@diywithkenny8399 I did everything I seen you do on the video. I've taken it put several times and even changed to a new ink cartridge. I think it is the chip itself. I'm going to try replacing it and see if that works..

Hello. Gonna have to ask a few questions.
Either you swap or bought the etsy chips, are they facing correctly?
After removing the clear rubber seal to fill the sublimation ink, did you replace it with the color rubber seal (throw away clear ones)?
Last question; after connect wifi, did you download the "recommend drivers" from www.epson.com/support/ ? Watch this video for that step: ruclips.net/video/aLpdCW_yQkw/видео.html

Ok. now before you converted, did you use those chips off the epson ink?
Also. If you only swap the Magenta color only, does the magenta showing full or empty?
What is the printer screen saying?
Excuse me for asking just need more information.
Hello, thank you for your videos on the wf 7840 conversion...I have purchased 2...one to convert to sublimation. And the other to have to print out larger prints...for the sublimation conversion..it seems like this would be costly having to buy new chips each time. The cost could really add up. Kenny what do you think? Wondering if I should send one back and look for other large print machines to convert where I wouldn't have to keep replacing the chips. Thank you once again...I have 2 days to return the wf 7840...
OK. Yes for now there are no "FIRMWARE CHIPS" made yet. Will have to buy new chips again for this WF printer. I am still working on research to by pass. Best option is Epson EcoTank 15000 estimate $600, get inks from www.cosmoink.com.
Thank you,
@@marleymarley1360 Make sure you manually check your sublimation ink on the WF if you running a lot of prints. Always around to answer any questions. 😎

What if I have already started using my WF-7820 as a regular printer, but wanna convert it to a sublimation printer, is that possible, and how do I do that?
Hello, you can still convert it; for the left-over original ink inside the printer, can just do a few "print nozzle test" until you see a "dull" look from sublimation ink.
Whenever you decide to convert, I am around for help. 😎
@@diywithkenny8399 I’m VERY new to the sublimation world 😩 so could you explain a little more as to what I do with the regular ink that’s already in the printer…please?
@@regenasimmons2534 Leave original in there until you have ecerything you need to convert. Once you replace the new refill cartridges, with ink, just run a few print nozzle checks on normal paper.
Sublimation is for polyester garments at 100%, 65%, and 50% (vintage look), can also use on ceramic mugs. Certain vinyl can sublimate designs on. Cannot sublimate on darker colors, because no white ink. Hope that made some sense 😎
EPSON SUCKS. I have 2 Epson and they will now not accept INK. "Ink cartridge not recognized" Emptied out reset, turned off and back on replaced cartridges still the same old thing. WF-7820. On the other hand I have 3 Canon and 2 HP printers that work flawlessly. Personal feeling EPSON SUCKS.
