You are the only one that answers any comments, thank you for that and for the videos. How much ink should I use if I’m using the chips that came with the printer? I heard they show empty really fast. Or can I continue to use them even though it will show empty? Yes I’m new to this, lol
Very much welcome & thank you as well! The big wait is the new software for microchips, so you will have to purchase new epson ink for the chips for now (unfortunetly), but can use cheaper versions like 812XL. Hello. Just have to try. Whenever placing the refill cartridges, try to keep them straight and also when taking out. If chip falls off, just try to angle chip to place it back. Angle in to the top part and push it in. Just take your time. 😎
Ok: Did you use any of the original ink before converting? Also double check that the chip is facing correctly like the others, and not coming loose when putting in cartridge. Be careful taking out and placing in cartridges, do not angle them.
@@williebrown9012 ok. Did you match the chips with the same colors? Meaning took Cyan chip off original cartridge and place on the cyan refill-cartridge? Same for the others?
I don't understand. My current chip is telling printer that the cartridge is empty. So moving the chip to a new cartridge is still going to tell the printer it's empty. Do these printers keep going even if they think there is no ink? I'm also reading comments about getting new chips, when available. At some point you will need new chips anyway?
Yes if your chip runs low and can see in the supply on printer, have to get a new chip even if you have ink in cartridge. They have not made the certain chip where we do not have to swap yet (why you hear chip shortage and that stuff).

Last thing, no need to do anything with the etsy refill cartridges but this, make sure the chips are facing up correctly by checking original epson cartridge chips, and the clear plug to fill ink can trash it, the color rubber seal will be placed there after filling & prime ink.

Hi! I currently have the one time use chips installed on my 7840. When I go to change out the chips, is it possible to use the original chips that came with the printer and place them on the cartridges?
Nope. You may have to setup a preset preference only for sublimation, that way will not have to worry about mirror image, also size paper, and color setup I do video for that too.
Hey Kenny love your vidoes - I have a question. So I have this brand new epson wf 7840. I have done and followed the steps, changed the chips myself from the original cartridge and replaced the to the refil cartridge - but for about 4 days now it’s keep saying the same thing no matter what I do” cannot recognize cartridge” Although I haven’t downloaded any software from Eason website What should I do?
He y there can I ask if is it true that you need to replace the sub ink cartridges each time you run out of ink? I can't see that being good for the chips to keep moving them around that much. Let me know your thoughts. I really need a wide print printer for my business but before I invest I want to ensure it's a good one. I was also looking at 1500 however I am hearing it does not print bold colors. Do you have an opinion on that as well? Thank you in advance for your help!!!!
Better off getting the ET-15000. The WF 7840 is good, but no infinite chip made as we know it, replace chips due to software, then worried about firmware (because IF you update firmware, then no more 3rd party chips would work).

Also NEVER UPDATE FIRMWARE on printer.. i know they will have the chips made so no more swapping for this printer sooner or later..any further questions feel free to ask any time.
Hello. It can vary for busy usage, normal usage, or every now and then (including design sizes). Hello. For 13x19 the WF 7840/7820 (cheapest converting $300 more or less), Ecotank 15000 also (estimated $600 more or less) Printers. Price difference, but ET easier converting FYI. These are printer prices only. Hope I answered your question.
hey Kenny, looking for some assistance here. I followed your steps but now that I am done I get an error. “Initial cartridge detected. Printer already initialized.” Are we using the chips that came with the printer on the new refillable carts? Or do I need to buy replacement printer cartridges with chips and use the new chips on my refillable carts?
Hello. Did you download the recommended drivers from www.epson.com/support? Can use the chips off original cartridges or buy them out there (Etsy, Ebay, other places).
WF 7820/7840 would be the cheapest option because of print sizes 11x17, 13x19. The firmware chips are not made yet that would cure the swap chips whenever running out. Now another easier option that is good is EcoTank series, but if you want bigger print size the ET 15000 around $600 be overall best option no chips, just buy sublimation ink. Hope that explains it.
Have to add.. when WF 7840 or 7820 chips says ink is low, then you would have to buy new set, but there an Etsy seller (link in description) sells refill cartridges with chips as set for $40 to $50 around there.. little more cheaper than buying real epson inks or 3rd parties to swap.
Hi Kenny, We refilled the ink on the converted chip cartridges for the first time. Getting a "Ink level low" still. Do we have to buy new chips after refilling before using? Thank you in advance!

Awesome to hear! Just manually check your sublimation inks, because the chips will read if it was normal Epson inks. Hello sorry late reply, i would try a few "Print Head Cleans" (its on your printer maintenance area), then do the print out which is the 2nd step (its optional), then print out a small design or shrink it down to test it out (repeat if needed using same sublimation paper so wont waste more ink). Depending on your printing use, I would recommend that you do a "print head clean" weekly to keep your colors right. Treat the printer like you would your vehicle. Let me know this works!

I want to purchase this printer and convert but I'm confuse about all the talk of microchips

Hello i came across your channel and i am looking in to getting in to printing shirts and have a few questions about converting a printer i think you are very knowledgeable at this and would love to talk with u about it
Not sure if you know of a good one but do you have a recommendation for sublimation ink for a wf7310?
I use Cosmo Ink.
Thank you Kenny. Question if I’m converting a printer that has already been used, do I need to reset it and download the drivers after filling and putting in the cartridges with sub ink?
Hello and thanks. You should be good converting. If you downloaded the print drivers from www.epson.com/support (search printer) you are good. Question is did you did any firmware updates? Be on printer end, if you have then it will not read the chips (aftermarket), BUT if you didn't do any firmware updates then DON'T. Also can turn off on printer in settings. So verify your end if you have or haven't 😎
@@diywithkenny8399 Thank you for responding to me, you’re awesome. I’m not sure about if a firmware update has been done. I purchased it from someone who just utilized it as a printer. Do you know which firmware version that won’t work? Maybe I can find what firmware version it’s on now.
Hello. That I have tried to research and only found older model epson to reverse. Only way to know if there no firmware update is to use 3rd party ink-cartridge and if printer accepts or say "not recognize" or you see on the panel red X even though its full of ink, but if you see ink is full on printer screen you are good (hard to explain but something like that). Company is only want us to buy straight from them. Can read this article - www.compandsave.com/epson-printer-firmware-reset-downgrade
can i convert my 7840 if i have used the regular ink? and what kind of paper to you print on that turned out awesome
Did it work?
Hello Kenny I had another question when switching to a different brand of ink when it runs out, would I have to buy new refillable cartridges or would I be able to use the same one?
Hello. Can use the same cartridge with any inks 😎
will these refillable work with wf 7830
Do you have to change the chip at every fill up ??
Hello Mr. Kenny,
Hope all is well. I purchase the WF 7840 last week and the 802 refillable ink cartridges. I look at your video over 4 times step by step to make sure I'm doing it correctly. After replacing the chip off of the original cartridges onto the refillable cartridges, fill the cartridge with the hiipoo sublimation ink and once the WF-7840 printer stated to install the ink cartridges, I install all the ink cartridges the way you stated, and the printer would not recognize the cartridges. So, I remove the cartridges from the printer and then unplugged the printer the plugged the printer back in and install the refillable cartridges again. The printer still not recognizing the refillable cartridges.
Please :( help!!!!!!!
Thanks Maxine
I am having the same problem. 😢
get a chip resetter..
Good day Sir, I was wondering during do you know how to download grade the firmware update that just came out? It gave me an error to replace my ink cartridges and I just bought them.
Hello. Hmmmn did you update firmware at all?
Also I will get back with you soon as I can.
@@diywithkenny8399 yes sir I did and it messed up everything
@@diywithkenny8399 okay I appreciate you
Hey Hayes. Check back for reply, I gotcha shortly 😎
quick question I'm thinking of getting this one however it has been refurbished by Epson, is there any extra steps I need to take when converting it or should it just be the same since it's like new?
Hello. Did you get the refurbished printer yet? If not I would recommend getting new or EcoTank 15000 (prints 13x19 and no chips)
After only 12 prints my wf7840 is saying "Cartidge not recognized" on the magenta cartridge, these chips are the ones that came with the epson ink cartridges in the box with the printer. Any suggestions?
Hmmn, have you remove cartridge and check to see the chip is not loose?
Also just asking the printer never said "ink low"?
Kenny T.V. Yes about 6 times in the last 3 days. I have made sure it’s installed properly…. It was working just suddenly quit.
Cartridge is half way full with ink, I can not get it to work
Kenny T.V. No never said ink low
@@hopeshaw8310 Ok. Did you remove the magenta cartridge and check chip and put back to see if that worked? Only thing i can think of is that chip moving 🤔
Hi! where do i get the 802 cartridges and do i need to do any settings to the printer?
There are a few options to get the refill cartridges (2 links): tinyurl.com/fmhkd67t (full set, ink, no chips) or tinyurl.com/ukb5j9vk (refill cartridges with chips no ink)
Also you can check out video description, where you can buy the ink, and other sublimation products.
Would watch this after labor part, but make sure you setup your printer wifi: ruclips.net/video/_ynd-X5A13Q/видео.html
Then you can setup up your preset settings for printing (start at 9min 27 seconds): ruclips.net/video/aLpdCW_yQkw/видео.html
Last thing, any questions feel free to ask anytime
I bought the 7840 last night and I’m having trouble finding a video…can I use this printer for regular heat transfer paper??? Thanks a lot a great vid btw
Hello. Yes you can and recommend to use regular jet-ink on heat transfer paper.
Thanks man I’ve been hesitant to open it up. I really appreciate it 🙏🏼
Welcome. Feel free to ask anytime. Can always conver to sublimation and back to normal
Sorry to bother you on the weekend but I’m having some issues. So I have my printer connected and everything is running smooth. But i having a problem printing plain heat transfer paper at 11x17. I tried the settings on both my hp laptop and Epson 7840 printer. Is there a setting I’m missing? I get a errors that say paper sz doesn’t match
…your print setting
You sound just like Ice T. I love his voice!
As for turning this printer into a sub printer, I appreciate the effort but; it doesn’t even seem worth it. I don’t want to purchase and waste ink just for the chip. I sure wish someone could figure out how to bypass the ink level thingy on this printer.
Guess I’ll keep waiting...
Lol thanks. Firmware chips are not made or not in this country far as I know. When my current chips get low, will try some solutions I have dug up. But for now it is what it is 😅.
Oh yea.. i did remember you can convert any EcoTank easily by using sublimation ink, just have to figure out which printer.. just in case.
Ok did I everything right the paper came out but now it’s saying that the paper is jammed but nothing is in there and this is a brand new printer
Can this process be used with the epson expression hd xp?
If it is the XP-15000 ecotank then yes! The expression hd have no conversion kit (yet).
@@diywithkenny8399 first of all THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING!! the box says expressions photo hd xp 15000?
Any Epson Ecotank are good, if you want bigger prints ET-15000 & ET-8550. WorkForce requires using chips and aftermarket refill-cartridges. If you could find wf-7710 or 7720 they print big and have reusable chips, newer ones like wf-7840/7820 the chip reset or reusable chips not made due to plandemic as of yet. Hope that helps explaining.
Greatly appreciated
Welcome.. feel free to ask anytime.
Hi, I followed all your step and my pages still print blank
Hello. Did you download the recommended drivers from www.epson.com/support (have to find your printer, then download).
Also let me know how it goes.
Hello I just watched your video and I was curious about getting the conversion kit that you have, but if I don’t like the ink can you use any sublimation ink to fill the cartridges
Yes you can for the ink, I now use Cosmo Ink.
Awesome thank you for the quick response
Welcome, feel free to ask any time.
Hey I just replaced my ink as it said my ink was getting low. I replaced the chips with my “initial setup cartridge” chips, and it says those are for initial setup only. So now I have full ink but it’s reading empty. I need to buy new chips or is there a way around this?
Yo. Unfortunetly have to replace "the chip" when the printer say change. Can refill manually as needed but chip life will continue it course. We all still waiting on the chipless/chip resetter stuff.
@@diywithkenny8399 right. I replaced the chips. My problem is, is when I first got the printer. It came with Initial Setup Cartridges. I didn’t use them, I went right into sublimation, so when I first setup the printer I used the refillable cartridges from an Etsy shop. Well now it’s reading that those are empty, so I swapped the chips with the Initial Setup Cartridge chips, but it’s telling me those are for Initial Setup only.
Is there a way around this? Can I not use these chips?
Hmmm. That is weird. I assume you use same colors per chip, what you can do is remove all cartridges, then turn off printer, and then unplug amd let it rest for 10 miutes or more. Comeback, plug in, turn on, replace cartridges (make sure the chip is placed firm and facing up correctly. ALSO - Whenever you see FIRMWARE UPDATE "on" printer, DONNOT UPDATE, can turn option off on printer in settings. Let me know.. worse case scenario may have to buy a set of chips, cheapest I seen are on Etsy, but research.
@@diywithkenny8399 ok cool
Thanx man. I’ll give it a shot
@@Aspire7 Forgot to add once you turn on & put cartridgesback in, try a print head clean (option to do 2nd step printout BUT not neccesary). Let me know.
My printer will not recognize the black and cyan cartridges since I changed them
Yo Kenny! Thanks so much for the video super helpful. I have a WF 7820 & I did everything step by step, but for some reason the printer is reading error. It says install the right cartridges. Any advice? I have 812XL cartridges from Etsy.
Hey. Now did you remove the clear rubber seal to fill in ink? Then replace it with the color seal from back? The color seal plug needs to be in the front end where chip is.
The clear rubber seal plug thing can throw away.
@@diywithkenny8399 thanks so much for responding! I figured it out I had the chips on the wrong way lol wow a huge difference
@@RougeWorld Oh cool, and welcome. Just remember to manually check the refill cartridge to refill if you are printing a lot.
Hey, so i have a brand new wf7840 on the way. As well as the conversion kit. Do I do everything you did in this video before setting it up with it's original ink? Also, are there refillable cartridges that you can keep using or are all of them one time uses? as far as the chip goes...
Yes you can run the setup with original epson ink until your conversion kit arrives. Only swap would be the chips that one time use (just how you would buy them; prefer Etsy shop and search for best prices).
Just remember to download "Recommended Print Divers" from www.epson.com/support .
NEVER UPDATE FIRMWARE ON PRINTER, can turn that off on printer.
@@diywithkenny8399 ok cool. Thanx man
Feel free to ask any questions anytime when you convert. I try my best to answer fast. You got this 😎
Nice video. I have a 7840 that I am thinking about converting since they stopped selling the 7720's. Thank you for sharing.
Hello. Thank you for watching.
I have the WF-7840. I followed the sublimation conversion but my printer is not printing ink at all. It is going through the motion but it is printing blank sheets. Please help.
Hello. Ok so I assume wifi is connected. Then please visit www.epson.com/support/ Then type in your printer "wf 7840" or other versions, then download "recommended" print drivers.
@@diywithkenny8399, that is done.
Ok.. let me ask you this, when filling up the refill cartridge, did you throw away the clear seal, and take the color seal from back to replace it?
@@diywithkenny8399 I did not throw anything away. How do I take the cartridges out of the printer to check without messing up anything? (sad face)
place thumb towards back, and index finger to to press the clip, lift straight up... IF you see the color seal on back end of cartridge, it needs to be place where you filled up ink, the clear rubber seal can trash that.
I was converting my printer to a sublimation printer and this is coming up I have converted the chips into the refillable cartridges installed into printer and this is what’s coming what I’m I doing wrong
It’s said not Recognizing ink cartridge
Hello. Did you ever recall updating your "FIRMWARE" on the printer? If you did then that may be the problem. Let me know.
Hey Kenny,
I already used my 7820 a couple of times with regular ink.
Can I still convert it to Sublimation??
Did it work?
Outstanding
Thanks Larry 😎
What are the pros of converting your printer?
Becoming a crafter for fun, business, or both; that you can print designs and place them on many different products. Have to ask yourself this would be something I would like to do.
Ok so I have the conversion kit, followed your video to change the chips and ink. I know this is a stupid question but was I supposed to initialize the printer with the ink cartridges that it came with or take those chips off and put them on the refillable cartridges and then initialize?
No not necessary, now if you have the original epson ink already in printer, still convert it.
Feel free to ask any questions.
@@diywithkenny8399 I placed the refillable cartridges with the chips off the Epson printer before initializing and it's not recognizing that they are in the printer. It keeps giving me an error and stating to put the original ink cartridges in the printer
@@thomaswright2813 Ok. 1st remove all refill cartridges, turn off printer and unplug; then make sure the clear rubber seal plug is removed, and color rubber seal is replace near front of refill cartridge, make sure chip is facing correctly (4 copper thing on chip top). Check those out and them replug, turn on printer, replace refills.
Adding the clear rubber seal where you filled sublimation ink can trash it
Do you have to keep changing the chip when have to refill cartridges?
Hello, yes unfortunetly for this, sublimation ink do last and manually refill during current chips (good thing). No firmware chips made yet. Better option would be EcoTank 15000 if you want to print bigger.
@@diywithkenny8399 so I can change the chip for initial set up, but with cartridges installed still refill them if need to as long as I fill them before register as empty?
@@LauraSilveria Yes but if you have used original chips for normal printing, the chip life is less. Best purchase is here at Etsy (Chips & Refillable Cartridges) : tinyurl.com/ukb5j9vk
@@LauraSilveria Then you can purchase the sublimation ink, but make sure you get the surenges to fill refillable-cartridges.
@@diywithkenny8399 yeah I have all that already for my wf-3620 , just have to convert this new one. I hope they come out with reset chips or chipless firmware soon
Wht could cause the printer to not read black cartridge after new chip install
Try print head cleaning, use regular copy paper because printer will prompt a print out, can flip over and repeat. May have to try few times. Let me know if it works 😎
@@diywithkenny8399 Thts what I tried to do but it won’t allow me to print with the error. It keeps saying it can’t read it
1st time changing chip or 2nd? Make sure chip is facing correctly (4 copper things top, 5 copper bottom) Color seal is toward the front. Carefully pull out and check.
@@diywithkenny8399 2nd chip change everything is correct all 3 of the other one are reading full after chip change and refill with ink
That is weird.. i would pull out black, turn off printer, unplug, give it 5 - 10 min then try again. What chip did you swap with (from where)?

Awesome to hear! Just manually check your sublimation inks, because the chips will read if it was normal Epson inks. Any questions I am around 😎
@@diywithkenny8399 We have this printer. We purchased remanufactured ink and the green is a bit off. Sort of washed out looking. What would you recommend?
Hello sorry late reply, i would try a few "Print Head Cleans" (its on your printer maintenance area), then do the print out which is the 2nd step (its optional), then print out a small design or shrink it down to test it out (repeat if needed using same sublimation paper so wont waste more ink). Depending on your printing use, I would recommend that you do a "print head clean" weekly to keep your colors right. Treat the printer like you would your vehicle. Let me know this works!
