I bought the SJE091 (Black Dial) version. I was fortunate to pick it up for $1,900 (including tax). I love the tribute to the 1965 version. The 6L35 can be regulated to be about +- 0.4 seconds a day (I had mine regulated with a timegrapher). I love the angular & retro look, the performance and the finishing. Before this watch, I had a GS Cherry Blossom SBG413 and I ended up selling it because the way the watch and bracelet was finished, it scratched too easily and it was difficult to read the time. The SJE089 & SJE091 are truly the best values on the market right now. If this watch was manufactured in Switzerland, you would be paying at least $6,000+. The cherry on top is that you can pick this watch up new for $2,000 if you do your research. What an amazing watch.

I have also been thinking about it a lot. I tremendously enjoy the looks but not the retail price. Id put some serious thought into purchasing it at 1900€ but what at what they are asking for. Also the very limited water resistance kinda puts me off on this.

Exact watch I’m looking for. Trying to decide the white or black. Where did you grab it for $2k?

👍 A bit more info on the bracelet with a full view would have been nice. Also would be good to know what movement is inside? Great straps by the way.

The movement used in this watch is a important one. It basically breaches the gap between old and new Seiko

I think there is too much text on the face. Remove the "King Seiko". I mean why repeat the logo? Leave "King Seiko" on the movement or caseback. I would also want the "Automatic" removed as well. We should be able to tell from the seconds hand. It's a beautiful watch ruined by the text. But it's a great size.

i think that desire is an over-simplification of the design language. as a long time seiko fan, i miss the seiko-grand seiko dial layout. the double seiko branding might seem clumsy, but it's very nostalgic in a more obvious way than the new seiko 5 or prospex logo. plus, if you look up vintage king seikos, there are some models that have almost eight lines on the dial. everything about this watch is elegant, but some seiko fans are hard to please.

Your 'history' of King Seiko is not accurate.

@@NikolausHirsch Seiko created two companies back in the 1960s, Grand Seiko and King Seiko. The purpose for them both compete to create watches that would take part in the yearly competition against the other entries in Switzerland of the established Swiss companies. The first year they entered, they did well, and each year they did better and better, until they did so well that the Swiss cancelled the competition. Grand Seiko survived but King Seiko didn't really survive long. But as you know, King Seiko have since been started again. It's early days for them. I personally like them and hope they expand with more collections, but it's difficult to know what other collections they can create that are distinctive enough not to appear like either Seiko or Grand Seiko.
