- Bike packing with an E-Bike will let you travel further, ride more amazing trails and potentially even carry more. But this also comes with choices: hotel or camp? What to pack? What to carry? Doddy joined Steve for an epic ride through the Welsh countryside to compare which is best, 5 stars, or a night under them

More adventure videos like this please. It really showcases the versatility of an e bike. Those drone shots were brilliant.
That's great content there. This shows the whole point of e-bikes: exploring, technical climbs and descents and long days out.
Thanks mattdedasc! What else would you like to see?
Electric Mountain Bike Network it would be nice if you could put links to maps of the journey you took and links of places to stay or visit whilst on the ride. I have just bought an e bike conversion kit for my bike and finding this Chanel is great.
natural trails are sooo much better compared to any bike park. great video guys. so much fun to watch. really high quality content. wanna see more of that kind of videos 👍🏻
Thanks Mr. EIT!
It was four years too soon, but I thank you for sporting the Argentinean team colors in anticipation of this 2022 World Cup. You inspired us to win the group after suffering a terrible loss in the first match. Thank you lads!😘🤣🤣🤣
Ive been mountain biking since the 80s, but the emtb brings me back to what it was like to ride a bike as a kid.
one of the best EMBN videos ever ! great job !!!
That’s my type of riding loved it 👍👍
There's good chemistry between these two. More please!
[Insert dirty joke about the Welshman in his field of sheep]
Just what E-Bikes are for ! if only there were ways of finding these routes without knowing them
Get out and explore your local trails, try finding new places to go near you
We already do but living in the Home counties we can't cover those distances without using too much road, locally we have rides from 20-30 miles using the Chiltern Hills and parts of the Thames Path, but we want more..... We are greedy and Jealous of all those open spaces
Electric Mountain Bike Network I use RideWithGPS set to OSM Outdoor map type, which often shows up trails you don’t see on OS Maps.
Jones killing it on the facts, love it
He's just full of them!
Oh, my love, Wales ❤️🏴
These two are great together, good dynamic, some great footage and what looks like an incredible ride!
Good job lads.
I watched this last night and it looks like a great trip. #AskEMBN Do create GPX files for the routes you do and would you willing to share them?
Great ride guys, beautiful!!!
I enjoyed every moment. Thanks. Great views, nice tracks. We planned to do similar traveling in Austria when it is warm enough . (Where I live)
Good thing bringing out Doddy to his normal habitat: natural trails. 😁
Well done chaps. Great piece around my local stomping ground.
Amazing routes. Loved watching.
Two great presenters
👍
Yeah! I don't know why some people dislike Jonesy!
Awesome video! Great to see Doddy on an E-bike too!!
Just fabulous guys
Great video guys! I live in Chatel in the French Alps and have been riding a Cannondale Moterra LT since spring. It has enabled me to do way bigger mountain rides than ever before. During the last 6 weeks I have also been able to use the lift system. Combining this facility with Swiss mountain trains for long transitions, the rides I can now do in a day are total monsters, with huge amounts of descending. I am pretty much riding back country natural stuff all the time which gives me a real personal mountain experience (and no brake bumps) By looking after my battery I can easily do a full day of alpine terrain and still have enough in the tank to get home. The Portes du Soleil are now putting charging stations at various points, not that I have had to use one yet! My Moterra has 160mm of travel and descends like a mini DH bike. An e bike like the Moterra really has no compromise as it's a do it all bike. In the 17 years I having been living in Chatel I have always had to compromise in terms of building a bike that descends well but one that still climbs. Not anymore! I also work as a guide and riding an e bike whilst working has already proved an amazing tool. I could rattle on but the bottom line is, I am already a total E bike convert and as much as I wanted to find a reason to dislike it, I can't! I am lucky to live where I do for sure and like the terrain in your video, the alps is perfect E Bike country. The haters are always going to hate but honestly, if they actually tried one and saw the benefits (including fitness) I am sure most would love it. Bring on the E evolution!
Sounds like a fantastic ride and great place for it too! Nice one Lloyd!
Amazing content, EMBN is smashing it.
Awesome! Love it on a bike around the Abbey, Red Darren, Cats Back, Hay Bluff and Twmpa. Also further over near the Grywnne Fawr reservoir and up on Crig Mawr. My favourite riding area for sure. Great job guys, hopefully see you up there one day.
These are the best type of video's the channel does just 2 mates out on their e bikes going places you wouldn't normally go on conventional bikes ,to me the whole point of owning an e bike
I'm guessing Steve charged his battery overnight at the BnB? What I'd really like to see next is the guys going completely off-grid and investigating unique methods of charging in that situation (i.e. solar / emergency chargers etc.). Would be great to understand if there are other means by which you can eek out a whole day of epic riding without having to rely on coffee shops and hotels being somewhere near the route.
It's a great idea Ice Reef! Maybe that's the next step, taking it completely out there with no help.... We'll see!
Yeah I’d like to see that too 🤙🏽
I doubt that's possible in the UK. It's hard enough just to keep your gadgets charged on a completely off grid bike trip and I've tried. Realistically you'd need to carry extra fully charged batteries and swap them over.
Nice to see you all had a fantastic time, and the weather stayed good and Ken Dod, is a convert ,,, cheers Shane uk
Great work loving every episode
Thanks for all the love Dan
Now that's adventure..
Amazing looking trails!
Nice Oakley Time Machine Doddy!
Fantastic episode! Perfect combination between entertaining pretty views and educational remarks as to how to climb and what’s in the backpack 👏👏👏
So good to hear, Alex! Thanks for the feedback.
Great banter ... loved this
Really enjoyed that! It looked like one of those old school routes I haven't done since the early 90's back when we were sure the Biopace rings were "definitely helping". I could totally see myself out in the Lakes on an E-bike as a great way to spend a day off.
This is honestly the kind of ride that I (and I think many MTBers) dream of, just epic natural 'proper' mountain biking. Sure it is probably just about possible on a 'normal' mountain bike, but it would be so much of a struggle that you'd be missing out on so much of what makes being out there in the wilderness, on two wheels, so great! ...and I for one genuinely enjoy Steve's 'factoids', particularly the geological/graphical ones which I feel set a wonderfully positive and awe inspiring tone for enjoying the amazing scenery, and it really shows his enthusiasm and passion for the area he's riding in ... so, if you're reading this Steve, keep on dropping those 'knowledge bombs'!!
At 75, this looks really good to me! Can't wait to get my new Trek Powerfly FS 9 Equipped which I ordered a month ago!
I've enjoyed every video and adventure Steve has put up on the EMBN. I'm not sure I would have ever considered buying an ebike until watching your videos. Here in the US there have been mixed opinions and some closure of trails to ebikes. I hope that trend stops and ebikes are accepted everywhere in the future. I see how they could be a perfect way to explore more trails and cover more distance while still getting a great workout, as Steve said, ebikes are not cheating in any way. Thanks for the great videos.
That's so cool george. We hope they do too!
Loved this. Was on those hills last month
I take extra battery on multi-day rides...next ride is coast to coast! Great video guys! Come on over to the states and I will show you some amazing trails!
Please publish this route Steve. It looks amazing.
Hi Sam we'll see if he can do that!
Electric Mountain Bike Network Cheers. A bit of information on how you made the batteries last so long. Amazing video. This was my favourite video yet of your series.
Would love see this route as well.
Me too. A GPX file would be great!
You don’t need it just go there and see what happens either way it will still be fun
Nice one Steve - Doddy needed a proper day out 👍
Couldn't agree more about bike parks. They're great fun, but they're not what mountain biking is about.
Leave the bike parks for the cool kids with their new bikes that they bought with their parent's credit card...
Excelent video, it shows how to use the e bike for long rides hapy to see you riding
Even without being ebike specific I thought this kind of adventure ride video was brilliant! Love to see more of these! You should ride with Jason Miles on one of his epics.
Black mountains is an amazing place and naturals trails are the best option for e-bikes!
The Jones & Doddy show. This what Mtb is about, discovering, have great time and sleeping with sheeps.
hi🌷
this was really awesome! what a treat!, beautiful ~ love to watch💕
Amazing video showing the true usefulness of a EMTB. I only hope all the anti EMTB would take a minute to watch you’re video and see that responsible use of these bikes is a plus for society. Keep up the great work.
Excellent video, the trail looked really good. Steve looked shattered after day 1😂
You guys are converting me, I think. When I first started hearing about ebikes, I thought I'd never touch one and that they were cheating. But I never realized how much work you still have to put into the ride! The theme I'm seeing is that you work as hard as on a conventional bike, but go farther. I recently went to a downhill lift-access park for the first time, and did 50 miles of descending in one day. I was blown away by how much I improved my skills over the course of the day! This led me to think about the kind of rides I usually go on at my home trails, which by the nature of the trails consist of long exhausting climbs and descents that are over in 3 to 5 minutes at most. So I spend 4 hours out riding, getting totally exhausted, but spend maybe 20 minutes of that descending in total. I also don't have a car, so I usually take a 45 minute ride with 1000 feet of climbing to get to the trails. After seeing all your videos, I'm considering an ebike for my next bike. I've been working hard and wanting to improve my skills, and I think an ebike could be a great tool to help me get in more time descending and practicing those skills! Especially with the way my local trails all are laid out.
Now I'm a bit bummed because I've been doing more research and a lot of the trails I'd want to ride don't allow ebikes. It's not just that they're not allowed, but a lot of local riders seem really vehement about it, to the point of being venomous. It's been weird to see how divisive riders in my area can be, with flow trail riders both hating on ebikes, calling other people XC weenies, and yet shuttling while bashing the idea of lift access. It's all the same sport with different styles, we should be united
My recap since I have my ebike is that I ride triple or even more per year than I rode with my conventional bike. This means I put the same effort as before, but enjoy longer trips. So I don't call ebikes cheating, it's more like a range extenderb i.e. more fun!
What a fantastic trip a lot more interesting than the bike park videos👍🏼
Good video fella's and I honestly think Steve had the best idea when it came to sleeping. Mind you I think Doddy or Phil must have been able to charge his battery for him !.
Intense creek crossing at 12:07!
I'm off on a 1100km ebike ride through the Bush in Western Australia called the Munda Biddi trail on Tuesday. Should be awesome gonna have to charge where ever I can like cafes etc
Amazing! Send us some photos or videos: upload.embn.com
Love Hay on Wye ... roast lamb in “The Black Lion” .... delicious.
Ps you guys have you tube’s best drone pilot ! Great shots Phil. Nicely edited.
14:45 Hats off in church gentlemen! Great film BTW
Excellent guys💪💯❤️👍it's realy nice to see doddy,,,, Steve, but I don't think your ever going to get his hair out of place on those decents 🤣🤣🤣👍brilliant 💖💖😋✌🏻
The UK is beautiful!
love these adventures Steve watched all of them. any chance you can put a map or description to the routes ,also do we need extra battery for them ?.best .Simon
First a big thumbs up to your production crew. Brilliant footage from start to finish. As for the trip, a 5* guide to what makes real sense of ebikes. Would be a great help if you could post online the route details as not far from here and worth covering at least a full day of part of your trip. Finally, even though you’re Welsh Steve, I’m sure it’s illegal to be “worrying” sheep! 😎
Great vid which has made me even more indecisive about my next bike purchase! If you'd used Komoot, you could have tracked the route and made the GPX available.
Will do
I like your music in this video
Amazing! Gmbn should do similar things too!
Watch this space, there might be a pretty special GMBN video coming soon
Great video, would be nice to have the trip stats to see what those batteries are capable of
Fantastic video this is exactly what i would use an e-bike for,my only concern is battery longevity over a days cycling could you get 7-8 hours out of a battery over say standard trails ?.
Great video, love the concept and I assume Phil is the Camara guy. Great mix of drone, slow mo and other angles. Steve looks like he has another convert to ebikes. How many KM was each day?
's is awesome! Push RUclips, push!
Brilliant video! It left me wondering which ridge the final descent on day 1 was. Anybody know??
what kind of backpack did you use on this adventure ?
would have liked a bit of info on hours/battery life ,the different modes you were talking about at the start of the vid and ,well, the basic functionality of these bikes. great stuff as always tho thanks.
Phil, the camera man, he’s good at his job, he philms videos very well (ba dum tss)
Phil philms, I see what you did there.
Great video once again chaps. Looked an excellent 2 day trek, must take a trip across to Wales sometime soon as it looks amazing. Who are the 5 thumbs down? No pleasing some people.....
Any chance of getting the gpx files for this ride ?
Exactly...
What is that?
I’d also love a gpx off this ride looks amazing 🚲💨💨👍🏼😍
Yes please!
Great guys. Have you a copy of the route you could share as gpx?
Loved it. That’s why I’ve just got an e-bike.
What about packing a map and compass? Wouldn’t want to be lost out there when the weather changes...
With such key facts like those, Steve no doubt knows this area backwards.
This is really awesome content!! I have a question for Canadian e-bikers. I'm in southwestern Ontario and have heard of so many trail networks who don't allow e-bikes so where do you ride your e-bike? I can't think of any places around here where you could do something like what they did in the video. Would love to hear some people's experiences because I don't see the point of an e-bike in my region if you can't ride it on most trail networks.
I love this video. Do you have the GPX file?
Went to Rutland water with my son and his partner, with my hardtail mtb, my son hired a Trek electric bike, and let me have a go for a couple of miles , must say my fitness isn't 100 percent and my heart beat I can't seem to get above 125 through tablets and stent in heart valve , anyhow well impressed with the bike ,, want one and pissed that I can't afford half of one,,, make that a quarter ,, ha ha , either way I completed the 15 miles round the place 2 miles on the electric ,,, might go again and hire one thanks Shane uk 🇬🇧
Just shared on eBike smile
Nice. You should do it again with a "5-star" vs *relatively* "budget" ebike though. Say £3.5k-sh vs nearer £1.25k. See how they last battery-wise, how quick they charge, how they otherwise compare for balance and performance on that kinda 2-day trek with technical bits. :)
Eyup. Steves bike spotted coming out of the BnB. BUSTED.
Where? Steve did sleep out in a field, we know that for sure.
I love my Haibike/ Bosch. But, I will never be able to drive a normal bike. I’m spoiled.
And yes. It’s about range& fun.
How do you charge an e-bike in a field :)
Great video guys, I like the adventure style videos. But why is Steve's bag so wonky in all the shots? What ever it is, I'm not having one. Looks really uncomfortable for riding.
The question is : haibike or specialised ? Best battery life ? Best climber ? Most versatile ? Info plz ???
Here’s one for ‘EMBN does science’ - just how much assistance needs to be dialled in to account for the (not inconsiderable) extra weight? Is the first 10% just accounting for that, or is it less? The mind boggles!
I felt so happy after watching this .. hopefuly in 2 years i can save the money to buy a decent full sus E bike.
Awesome Adrian!
Can anyone tell me the names that he said? I dont think im writing them correctly. I don't understand 100% of what steve said about the city names. Thanks
Did Doddy cut the sleeves of his jersey? Or is the prototype of the long awaited short sleeve version?
Sleeping under the open sky may not be quite budget. If you go lightweight, the price of the equipment will be worth more than you would ever spend on a hotel room. ;) Also it will be the best night ever, but certainly would not call it budget. :)
boys, mega vid, name check your drone pilot
Great video, even greater scenery. When does EMBN organise an Emtb clinic /meet and greet here?
Could you Please put a gpx track on your site.
🚵🏽👍
As much of the ride is on private land, popular footpaths, or across open areas with no public access by bike I would hope the makers of this film would not be so irresponsible as to publish the route on a public forum.
Can you guys post a map of the ride, would love to ride it on my ebike of course👍

Is lord Hereford’s knob where the don done his speed challenge?
What shoes Is dom wearing
track ID?
#howfitareyou. Love the video. You both must be incredibly fit as well as great riders. What about the common man ? Could a person of moderate skill and fitness do this trip ?
Love your videos guys ... I'm just getting into emtb and wondered what your thoughts were on the Scott e genius 710 ... been looking at a few bikes and the Scott caught my eye .
Cheers Dave
Hi Dave great question. The Scott looks like a decent bike, what sort of riding are you looking to do?
@@embn I'm a bit of a novice but a brave novice haha .. so I will be riding on trails and also finding my own route so to speak through the countryside near me ... also will be putting the bike in the van and venturing out into the unknown .. I'll be riding as much as the wife lets me ... prob sneak out at night when she's snoring in bed haha.
Dave, take a look at the Focus Jam2 (Jam Squared) with the T.E.C. Pack. They have a separate battery that attaches to the downtube to provide a total of 756WH. I bought one about a month ago and absolutely love it!
@@fatboyzmtb2264 cheers ... will defo take a look
People always ask about battery range.. Well I think it's an elephant in the room subject! Because there are so many variables in play, And when you do proper mountain biking like this or any rather long or large inclines it's gonna eat that pack! No matter how good the batteries are. What I will say for sure, Is your battery will never last as long as you think it will! Unless you truly are one of those that keep your settings rock bottom only ride on straights with little weight where you manage decent coverage, But I think that's pointless on an e-bike! Might as well save all that money and buy a standard bike if that's all you do? ;)
This guy didn’t even pitch a tent 😂😂😂😂
