nice, would like to have some similar trails nearby. did a simple loop this morning 28km , +1600m elevation and steepest klimb was around 20% gradient and longest was like 15% for +/-1.5km and had 46% left on my 400wh battery when i got home . kept it on eco+ and boost for the hardest klimbs and im like 106kg heavy. longest run was around 70km and still had a litle over 1 bar of batterylife left
Yesterday I did 96km (60 miles) and over 1500m over the Burma Road and up Cairngorm Mountain...icy sleet at the end, but second battery is amazing (my a$$ cheeks say different today...ouch)
I must say, I‘ve never really wanted to visit the UK, but all those great places you guys are biking through is really inviting. Thank you for your great program. Love it.
Would love to see a "two battery epic ride" and what kind of ride it will be?!? Love that you are doing these videos in all kinds off weather. Miss Steves rubber boots though ;-)
Made this exact trip apart from the Buttermere incline and decent when I was a kid around 37 years ago... I was in the Rough Stuff Fellowship and we travelled down to Barrowon in Furnace for the annual AGM.. I can remember camping at Ennerdale YH.. we carried are bikes up the tops without the panniers and saddle bags... we then had to go back and to bring them up again.. I can still remember the hikers laughing at us struggling.... but will never forget their faces as we flew past them downhill... great days.. just in case your wondering I rode Claud Butler Majestic with upgraded wheels.. super champion rims, double butted spokes with Campagnolo large flange hubs..
pizzagorgonzola He said some of the best not all of the best. The rest of the best are all over the world including the places that you named, lighten up!
Omg those wet rocks, I was holding on to my chair. Love the place, I was married in St Olafs, the little church next to the Wasdale head. Thats it, the ebikes going there. Epic ride, it must have been cold, Steve put his gloves on, just keep it up guys, you are becoming the Topgear of ebikes.
I’ve cycled up skiddaw and helvelyn on a non e-bike. Great fun 😂 Helvelyn was tough as I had to start at the Keswick end on the old coach road and ride over a good few peaks to get up Helvelyn.
Another top video....thank gawd the clocks have moved, now I can go wherever I want in the Cairngorms after work and camp out...e-mtb, the best thing ever -what a time to be embracing this sea change in mtb'ing....I really pity the luddites, drive to ride, use batteries in all mod cons every day but have such a stunted mindset....I passed them all yesterday with a grin not a grimace...
“I am a machine!” That’s what biking in the north will do for you.....way hey 👋 Great video, proper off road cycling weather, those surfaces are pure evil when it’s wet - punctures, sliding, big hits, deep water, glad you pointed that out for those preparing to go hell for leather downhill in the Lakes. Not had the pleasure of an EMB ride yet but I’m revved up to try one ☝️
I’m on the Giant E-trance SX size XL, im 295lbs, my bike is 55lbs plus gear and I brought an extra battery in my camel pack so maybe 365lbs total. On one 500wh battery I did 18.5 miles and 3,600ft of elevation on eco mode before I swapped batteries! We did 5150ft and 26 miles that morning. That’s just awesome! My friend has the blue E-Trance and she’s 150lbs including all her gear and she did the 5150ft on one battery on power level 2 of the 5 power levels and still had a whole battery led light when she was done. We both did parts of the Troy Lee single track at skyline in Corona, Ca.. simply amazing what these bikes can do!
Ben, what ebike do you have? I don't have an ebike yet, but am looking at getting the 2019 Bulls e-stream evo am 3 27.5+ with the new 750Wh battery. I'm in northern California with plenty of trails to ride.
burnx45 I got a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 SL , it runs the Bosch CX with 500Wh. The first ride i did about 40km not to technical but still had 2 bars of power left, coming from my old analogue MTB I am surprised how well the bike rides even with the motor off.
Great video👍 The lakes does have some great riding just done a 70k ride around keswick mix of road and bridal ways. 30% battery left on my Levo 460 battery.
I fancy this ride next weekend. I'm on a Trek Rail 750w/h battery, do you reckon that's be enough or should I take charger & do as you did in Wasdale Head? TiA
Would the same ride be possible with a non e-bike? I purchased a Yetti SB 150 about 6 months ago,, and last month I purchased a Commencal Meta 29er e-bike,, My beautiful Yeti is now collecting dust, but I am smiling everyday with my e-bike
yes i've done it and many others like it. quite a bit of this look is hike a bike so an e bike would be hard going, perfect for the massive slog up honnister though.
It really shocks me how little traffic this channel gets especially when you see how many cyclists are in the UK it's not like it's a small community. I'll share this all over my Facebook and hope that people take the internet this is deserved, great video guys.
Lots of things to consider. Battery size (performance)old vs new, rider weight, and trail. Rocky vs muddy. Issue with EMTB specially doing this kind of adventure is battery anxiety. Gotta plan ahead.
What rear tyre did Steve use #askembn , was it tubeless? Double down wall may have been a good idea and 100ml more fluid ? what are your thoughts on that ?
Awesome! What is your Lake District eBike tour company called? Let me know, because if there is one, I'm coming over and bringing my friends. I've got a Shimano 8000 Motobecane bike and that trip looks wonderful.
EMBM Please could you answer this? why can you not just do most of the trail with the assistance off ? surely you don't use the motor for the whole journey? or is it just not possible to ride this kind of trail without assistance?
did this ride a few years ago, smashed my full face in half on the first descent and had to do the other 3 passes after! the ride was ok, first descent mega, rest stupid stone man made slabs apart from the odd nice section. Also a lot of this is hike a bike, how did you get on carrying them up blacksail? i was hurting up that just carrying my reign let alone an e bike.
I Love a challenge, but there comes a point when it's torture and not fun, that looked pretty close at times. I bet it was such a relief and achievement at the end. looked grooling, well ridden guys.
#ASKEMBN So- I have the expensive SRAM EX1 drivetrain.... Do I Not use the battery and Eco and potentially trash the CNC machined cassette which from low(1) to 5 is one piece, and mega expensive- £350- by pedalling under my own steam in this range, or use the battery and put it in gears 6-8 which 3 sprockets I've just bought on line for £26 and are replaceable? The EX1 is mad when you look at it- 5 gears out of a solid block and 3 fairly bog standard high gears that my digital vernier calipers say are not the same width anyway.....
8 Speed but not 8 speed spec- it's 8 speed running 10 speed spec to narrow the chainline. It works well, but when it dies I'll be going NX12 but probably MicroShift Advent 9 Speed (shifter, mech, 11-42 cassette= £113). The Bosch 16T equals 40T V 48T so 0.833. A 14T Bosch plus 42T low is 0.833 too.... £750 drivetrain versus £125....easy no brainer that!!
@@RideBikes_Walkplaces yeah I think I like the look of the lakes district rides. Theres one there which kinda reminds me of the trail in Steve and Adams vid. Nice. I guess that trsil reminds me of our local trails only if you can imagine it in a subtropical forest, ie. tall eucalypts and jungle surrounding the trails. Our local stuff is not as good for scenery though, because you cant see outside of the trees lol. The lakes looks like the trails of our hinterland but placed around Kosciusko for vegetstion.
Have you done any huge loops like this on your E-Bike? ⚡️ Let us know 👇

My maximum was 80 km and 1900m ascend roundtrip. Afterwards battery was empty but i (my ass) wonˋt go any further.

Ok :)
I have been everywhere in the world on my e bike and think the best riding is in Patagonia or Peckham .
This is the type of video and test I love. Pushing both man and bike
🤙
Best video you've done yet for me... Really made me want to ride my bike right now👍
Been going through this channels back catalogue of videos. Absolutely love ebikes
That's what I'm doing now, 5 yrs from this post. Lots of vids. Quite the evolution.
Wow, those were some serious trails
Looked like a rough ride. Not for the faint of heart. Great video!
More of this with Adam great Steve!
Really tough terrain in the lakes. I love it there, so glad I'm only an hour away from it.
Love the epic rides.
Best video yet!

Thanks, great day, big challenge. Well done. Hard Knot Pass next?
Awesome video guys 👏
6:10 it is not possible to have regenerative breaking on going down so you don't need to turn off the battery?!
Specialized Kenevo Expert (504wh)
26 miles
4300ft climbing
Finished with 23% battery remaining so 5000ft easily achievable
Mixture of Eco & Trail
Riding Raven & Gorlech at Brechfa forest
amazin! again pls
That looks awesome, but beyond me again..hopefully I will get to that level one day..

Lakes is life, lakes is love.
For massive ascents, to save battery, is it better to push slowly in eco mode or have a faster cadence in trail mode?
Spin not grind is best for battery i believe.
Amazing
Lots of things to consider. Battery size (performance)old vs new, rider weight, and trail. Rocky vs muddy. Issue with EMTB specially doing this kind of adventure is battery anxiety. Gotta plan ahead.
A really sypatic "friendly fire" ;)
What a beautiful...yet unforgiving landscape.

Well done adam

how many amp hours are these batteries? What is the wattage of the motors?

Great ride but I wonder how those motors do in all that water!
That was a proper flogger
Can you guys do a parody episode of the Grand Tour, but with bikes?
Hiya..what chest camera were you using?
I’m tackling the montytrax in the welsh hills 30 miles and 4500 plus feet on one battery in June 👌
Respect for riding those Steve I live close to the lakes and know how gnarly it really is
EMBM Please could you answer this? why can you not just do most of the trail with the assistance off ? surely you don't use the motor for the whole journey? or is it just not possible to ride this kind of trail without assistance?
You can do - they ride fine downhill & on flat powered off and save that all important juice for the uphills 😀
Hi. Do you have the gpx for this pls 🙂

Thats on the chesty?
We’ve hiked it. Can’t imagine riding it. Nice one.
I have to visit GB! My biggest climb with one battery was 1635 m in 18 km and after that 13 km trail run to the bottom.
joss....
Greta vid. Don't suppose you can post a .gpx file of the route can you? TIA
