      France, and the rest of Europe have lost their minds when it comes to ebikes. And unfortunately their actions are setting ebikes back by years. In the long run what this means is that all the euro ebike motor producers are going to lose out to other companies like Bafang that don't feel the need to follow laws that don't make sense. The people who support these nonsense laws are the same people that want cameras following your every move everywhere you go. The same people who think the government should have complete control over your life. Its pathetic.

      You forgot to mention the upto 1 year in prison aswell as €30k (2 years if your the retailer who sold it). So worst case is you get a year in prison, lose your job, and when you finally get out you need to find 30k! Not worth it.

    E-Bikes saved my life. 1,5 years ago i was smoking and drinking heavily on a daily basis (working at a club/bar didn´t help).
    Started Hiking at the start of ´19, did around 2500km till october, while still smoking daily, but reduced drinking already.
    In October i bought a trekking Ebike (Giant Explore+), put 2200km in 3 months on it and decided to stop smoking completely and reduce drinking to one drink a week at the start of ´20.
    One month ago i bought a real EMTB (Canyon Spectral:ON 7.0) and already put 800km on it, looking forward for better weather, so more trails open.
    Never felt better in many aspects of my life, I´m more fit an organized, have more energy and motivation in general.
    Only downside is, I´m spending way too much money on tools, parts and accesoirs now; but no euro feels wasted at all.

      Better to spend the money on tools and bikes than drink and cigarettes. I'm very similar to you but for me it was just an ordinary full sus trail bike that got me riding and it was fast food that was my issue. I went from 80kg to 113kg in 4 years. Slowly going back down now due to mountain biking and living 15 min away from bike park wales.

My second one that I've just purchased is a 2019 Voodoo Zobop with the Shimano Steps motor. I've literally driven to work less than ten times in the last 18 months & only because I had to go somewhere afterwards. Rain, snow, wind & cold doesn't deter me. Like it's been said already, the money you save on fuel pays for your new bike. It's a no brainer 😎😎👍👍

    Agree totally with rob, I've never rode an electric bike to 3 weeks ago and demo'd the SL levo and loved it instantly and last week road the full fat turbo levo and it blew my mind. Normal mtb time on my circuit in the iom is; 58mins to 1hr 6mins weather depending.
    SL- time 46 mins
    Turbo levo- 36 mins, and could easily have done twice the range I was well impressed, just got to save up now.

    Here in France they have E-scooters doing 50km/h in town.. No one gets stopped... Now they are a danger to others and themselves...
    So don't worry about any unenforceable law...
    Do treat elderly, children etc with respect and keep the speed down when passing.. Common sense should prevail over crazy laws... 40km/h should be the sweet spot.. With restrictions on shared paths where pedestrians walk..

  • @peterreber7671
    @peterreber7671 3 года назад +1

    The power cut-off at 25km/h is laughable. Even on a non-e-bike I can easily get up to 30 kmh/or more. The old mopeds were limited to 30 and there was no problem. It should be possible to have a system that starts reducing power by 10% for every 2km/h over 25. So at 40 km/h one would still have approx. 20% assistance, zero at 45.

      I highly doubt that under the current deal that this is anything that happens in the next five years.
      Product standards are still basically the same between EU and UK and they would have to diverge quite a bit before increasing the legal limit seems feasible.

    • @Minecraftrok999
      @Minecraftrok999 3 года назад

      But at least that's a realistic hope you've got there, I've seen so many British people claim Brexit would allow the UK to fullfil their personal wishes no matter how unlikely or even impossible. But given the enormous amount of straight up lies that was told by the campaign that is to be expected.

    • @Minecraftrok999
      @Minecraftrok999 3 года назад

      But I do agree, the 25 kmph limit is nonsense, something faster would be MUCH better, especially for replacing a car (as it has for me).
      And an S-Pedelec has the huge issue of not being allowed to ride it on cycling lanes or anywhere else basically that isn't a road also used by cars.

    Doddy, in regards to your question about cold weather winter and e-bikes...I live in Southern Ontario, travel around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) where this winter (december 2019-march 2020) my Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo 2019 endured more than 1500kms while the coldest ride was below -40C at times because of wind factor (30 to 60 kph). Battery did suffer a bit but 2-3 feet of snow was a big factor plus using more "trail" and "turbo" assistance was another, compared to nice weather (over 5C in canadian terms) a typical daily run of 25kms had a usage of no more than 15-20% while in winter it was a 20-35% for me and my 50year old body+ 95kg dead weight. Battery in "Eco" mode does save a lot like in spring or summer and is almost the same except on long uphills (i blame the ice/snow/wind factor altogether). Expect a 3 day usage on a full battery in winter with proper management or 70+kms instead of a nice 5-6 days of good weather riding for about 100+kms. I personally spend more time cleaning the bike of snow than riding it hehehe....cheers

    Honet question with no ill intent. I've always though in the U.K. that The government was more responsive to what people want and/or you were much better than the U.S. at democracy and turn what people want into law. So why all the ridiculous restrictions on e-bikes. Like 250W motors maximum for instance. That won't get you up even a moderate incline withut pedalling. And since unhealthiness is one of the main reasons use e-bikes . . .

    • @embn
      @embn  4 года назад +1

      That's just what E-bikes are and we're fine with it! You should have to pedal to get up a climb, otherwise it's just electric motor biking, we're still mountain bikers at heart, so we don't mind the restriction at all. It's not unhealthiness that drives us to ride these either, it's the love of every bike ride being a massive one, with a big grin all the way, whilst still being allowed to ride trails for mountain bikes.

    Guys, it really is getting kind of old. We get it, Specialized is your major sponsor and you are pushing the Levo whenever you can. But there are plenty of ebikes from other nice brands out there that offer significantly better value at lower price points and when it comes to up-hill trails or longer tours, many Cubes or Canyons leave the Levo in the dust. Pretending that great ebikes start at the price of a Levo is not even funny.

      @Electric Mountain Bike Network I know, I know, obviously not climbing but for when you most need to go fast in flat long sections the 25 km/h limit make the assistance a bit useless.

    I'm French. Our country is a land of many restrictions, which is a shame but the other day I was coming out of my alley, didn't see the bike coming in the road mirror and he nearly smashed into the car, he was flying. These bikes need lights and stuff to be seen but regulations will surely make things better still. 25 km/h is far enough for a bike. It has to remain a bicycle.

    Very addictive this channel, keep it up guys. Cheers. Re illegal e bikes, it has to be stopped because as usual the idiots ruin it for everyone else, riding at 30 & 40mph on pavements, it's bad enough at 25kmh hit someone at 40 mph someone's going to be killed, there's also lots of cases of undesirables drug running/ thieves operating on illegal e- bikes these idiots are going to ruin the reputation of all e-bikers if it's not stopped, just saying. High speed E-bikes should be allowed on the roads providing they have mot's, insurance, number plates, licences and protective gear etc and they should have to take a test too.
