Thanks for a great, simple video! I just did this in my 2007 Impreza and your video made the process easy. I did two things to help the process for those reading. One, I ordered the Metra cable thing pre-wired from Crutchfield. Was like $20. Made that part of it instantaneous. I could have made the cable but my time is worth a lot and that little bit of money was worth it. Also, I covered the whole area with a white towel. Reason: if you drop a screw it can disappear quickly (I know because I did twice). Just a tip.
@@RonPrieston I did. It's been 2 years now but I vaguely remember exactly what I posted. I bought a pre-made harness thing that I just snapped together with what was in there. There was no splicing or soldering or joining that I had to do. Took like 10 seconds to install. Totally worth it. I used Crutchfield as my supplier. They were extremely helpful in it all and I highly recommend them. I have no connection to Crutchfield other than I was a satisfied customer of excellent service.
@@Snackwog Thank you, I was not interested in splicing all those wires, but have no problem with a harness that plugs in, I was playing with MP3 FM transmitters and they suck.
@@RonPrieston They are all colour coded so easy to do. I soldered and heat-shrinked as better than crimping and will last longer. Got to hand it to Subaru though, they make access and replacement dead easy.
I already have a stereo I want to install, and I just ordered the wiring harness adapter. it looks like that's all I need from this video, but a website that sells the stereo I have, says I need to get a dash kit too. can anyone help me out here?
It's a good idea to look at the harness schematics as well as your subaru's manual to see which colored wires are for which components. In my case, I also had to connect blue to blue/white as the components they control are the same, but there could be further slight variation depending on your model of subaru - it's a good idea to run through them just to be sure, but for the most part it's just matching colors
This is how all tutorials for radio swaps should be. A+ bro

I was told from Crutchfield for the ready harness you have to order the stereo from them. Is this true?
You mean you can get a harness that does not require splicing them together?
