- Hey guys! Today I am sharing a super EASY way to make your own DIY Carpet Cleaning Solution using just 4 ingredients.
DIY Shampoo Solution Recipe
* 1/2 cup of Peroxide
*4 tbsp of dawn (or ANY dish washing liquid)
*4 tbsp of white Vinegar
*1/2 of a cap full of your fabric softener of choice

I use the same recipe to clean my car seats, minus the vinegar. My steam cleaner has a hose attachment specifically for upholstery cleaning and with this DIY cleaning solution it does a great job! As an extra step after I run the steam cleaner with the solution I follow it up with clean water to remove soap residue. Just like washing your laundry, ya gotta give it a good rinse after washing! Otherwise the residual cleaner in the carpet or upholstery gets sticky and collects dirt again very quickly!
4 Tbsp=1/4 cup...No disrespect in any way 😊,just an easier,faster way for me...All in all, this is amazing and it works great...Thank you for sharing 😁

Eyyy I have the same carpet cleaner. That thing works great for such a decent price. I honestly just use the purple fabuloso. I'm married to a Latina so you know I had to try the fabuloso out lol. But surprisingly enough it worked really really well! Now that I've seen this, I'm interested in trying this mixture out. I bet it smells great. Thanks for the video! ✌🏻

I've been using your recipe for a while switching back and forth from several different store bought ones and this recipe in my opinion cleans the best, and considering i have a small dog who has accidents thats saying a lot !

This!!! I already had the ingredients and it worked beautifully! I have 2 dogs my carpet was filthy nasty. The solution that came with the shampooer was garbage! It looks 100% better. I also did my stairs I put it in a bucket of water used a little elbow grease and they look good too. Thank you!

Hey heads up guys if you can get your hands on some citric acid..[its like 5 bucks w/ prime shipping for a few pounds of it on Amazon] it would help with adding to her already perfect solution.... 1, it has strong antibacterial properties. You know not all that smell is coming just from the mess you made or your animals made. Bacteria have joined the party also. And 2. Citric acid is used in many high dollar cleaners as a preservative. So if you plan on makeing a whole gallon of this stuff so you always have it ready and on hand like i plan on...some preservative might go along way. If your not sold yet... Umm its organic.
My livingroom carpet had not been done for 10 years, due to the weight of the furniture. It's hard on the body moving it alone. I saw this and decided to move stuff around and get it done. While the carpet under the furniture was a lot cleaner, the whole room is now done. Looks great, and I love the fresh clean smell. Refreshing.

I literally bought a shampooer last night! This is going to be so helpful. I can't believe how much the solution costs, I even got great value brand and it was still $12-$13 a bottle and the name brand was $24!!
Yes girl! The solution is SO darn expensive...and if you have a big house you need quite a bit of it. I usually have to fill up my shampooer 2 or 3 times just to clean the living room. This homemade solution makes your house smell just like fabric softener. I love it! Hope you like it too if you try it out! 😀

Thanks for the video I'm about to use this recipe for spot cleaning. And just an fyi for you, please be careful doing your own carpet cleaning, non commercial carpet cleaning vacuums are notorious for not sucking up enough water. I once had a mold problem under my carpet due to this lol. My advice is to run the vacuum over it a second time without the water.

Thaannnkkk yooouuuuu It worked very well and I used exactly what you used (measured a little more extra) and used the Clorox for colors (saw someone on this video say it in the comments Thank you) and my carpet is as good as new and smells so good in here 😊😊❤️
Do you put the mix of ingredients in the "solution" part of the cleaner or mix it in with the water tank?

In all the written forums what I could find is that it is not recommended to add fabric softener to a wet carpet cleaner solution since it can demage the mechanism of the machine. It is cheaper but on the long run, if you have to replace a gasket or a seal or the pump itself, it can be a risky saving advice for others.

Hello, I watched and got very excited to try this.. this evening as I already started the shampooing and don't like the chemical smell. My lungs can't hang. I always read the comments to get an idea of the product. I did read a few diff warnings on mixing hydrogen peroxide & vinegar. I'm only popping in to kindly share..I did a lil research and ya is very dangerous for lungs. I'll try with one or the other but both. On that note may I suggest a friendly thought? Maybe you would consider removing just this post simply To protect yourself and others. I saw you mentioned you don't exec have carpet these days and if it's dangerous you would never want blow back. Lord knows folks be reaching these days. Heck maybe just change to one or the other🤷♀️☺ just a friendly suggestion

Just one question - is the 1/2 cap of fabric softener used neat like from a sachet or as it would normally be diluted please?
Here in Australia Cuddly comes in a 300ml sachet which dilutes to make 2 litres in a bottle.
I would assume I would use 1/2 a cap from the 2 litre bottle of diluted Cuddly.
Use the diluted solution you make from the sachet. The fabric softener is what is referred to as a defoamer in the carpet cleaning solution. If you don't use a solution with a defoamer you will fill your machine with foam and break your carpet cleaner. I use a pine cleaner solution as a defoamer I have been making for over 20 years with my carpet cleaner. I use 1 or 2 capfuls per 2 gallons of water with maybe 1/4 tsp dish detergent. I love the smell of pine cleaner. I also blow box fans at the rugs after I'm done to dry them. Keep moving the fans around to make it dry faster.

I'm not a chemist, did took a few classes in college, correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't mixing hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid would result in a neutral solution? you know like water is neutral?
Many cleaning videos show that ammonia, boron, peroxide, they all do a great job at cleaning, I believe the finish is what is neutral or slightly acid.

Hello, did I hear someone say "How Much Water" did you use for this recipe? It would be helpful to let everyone know what the dilution ratio is!
I'm thinking you put half in (because she said its enough for 2 times) and then fill your shampooer container.
My machine has measurement marks for water and solution on the side
There is a line in the bucket where the water goes and it tell you how much water it takes.

Soap and fabric softener leaves residue in carpet and builds up over time
I add some bleach to the waterside. And use some laundry detergent, water, and fabric softner on the cleaning liquide side. I have light carpet so it works well.

Add 2 tbsp of borax. Safe for all colors and gives it a boost for stains

Hi, are you sure that this solution will not hurt the machine? Are you using this solution for long time?
Mixing hydrogen peroxide and vinegar can create peracetic acid, also known as peroxyacetic acid (PAA) or corrosive acid. Peracetic acid can be toxic and corrosive, and can irritate your eyes, skin, throat, nose, and lungs. In high concentrations, it can also damage the surface it's applied to. The gasses from the reaction can also irritate your mouth and cause skin burns.
Will give it a try, however I am trying to clean carpet. Not make my house smell like a perfume factory.
I use all brand detergent for clothes and white vinegar also downy and works so good! The carpet cleaners give me a headache smells like chemicals

This won't work in a regular vacuum. Only carpet cleaners which are separate machines.

I have the hoover smartwash and it has a separate tank for the cleaning solution because it mixes with the water automatically. How would I use this??

Hi Fernando! I am not entirely sure as I've never tested it out on hard floors. If you do try I would suggest testing in a small area first before doing the entire floor. Let me know how it works if you do test it out. I'd love to know! 🙂

Dawn is used to clean animals in the ocean that have been exposed to oil spills. It's worth its weight in GOLD.
