It seems to me that Iran also has a very, very long tradition of making some of the worlds most incredible carpets. There is a difference between the common household “wall to wall” carpet and the plush carpets from your county.

    Great video.
Just a couple of things that might be useful for people to know...
    1) this is a rug, not a piece of carpet.
They are constructed differently. A rug may be able to take the soaking that was demonstrated in the video, where as a carpet should never have the backing wet. As a professional carpet and upholstery cleaner I have seen the results of this from people using rug doctors and over wetting their carpets. This can cause the latex backing of the carpet to degrade which leads to delamination.
    2) I would charge my minimum call out fee (£65 approx $80) to clean a rug this size. You wouldn’t have to spend any time doing it and it would be dry within the hour of me finishing!
I also only use pet and child safe products 😉
    3) it is super important that if you try and clean a rug this way that you thoroughly flush out any cleaning agents that you use. Otherwise it can lead to premature resoiling and possible damage to the fibres.
It looked like you did a great job at flushing out the cleaning agents you used 😎
    A great way to help
Speak up drying is to raise the rug off the floor and place a fan above and below it to move air around the fibres. This will dramatically reduce dry times.
Loved the video though. Keep up the good work.
All the best from the UK
    Tom

Recommendation, buy an extra bucket and drill holes into the bottom. Place it on top of your carpet, make your mix in another bucket, then simply pour it into the one with holes and quickly pick it up and it basically is like a watering can. Makes it so much easier to disperse the solution all over without missing spots.

My cat got sick on the rug a few weeks ago and my daughter reached for a bottle of spray cleaner which had oxy in it. She left it sit and when she cleaned it , I had a bright spot on my carpet. Fun video, but way to much work and way to hard on the area rug, being that wet for that long the backing will brake down and the rug with become a rag. Do Not do this with a wool rug!

For all that effort and mess, I would recommend taking it to a professional rug cleaning place. White carpets have to be the most impractical color for anything other than out-of-the-way decoration. I have found that for darker, shorter nap carpet, a spray of stain remover and a damp mop will take out stains. Let the stain remover sit for about five minutes, spray again, and mop well. Rinse the mop and go over it again a couple of times.

If the foaming is a problem, fill the bucket with water first when making up the cleaning solution. Then add the other ingredients, stirring gently to mix. Also, be VERY SURE the attachments for your shop vac are clean, or they will leave streaks on the rug. The rug will dry faster if you get it up off the ground, and drape it over something like saw horses or even the backs of furniture. Allowing the air to move under and around the rug will help it dry more evenly and quickly.

Dry it with fans next time. The longer it takes to dry will cause alkaline browning. Also if you do get browning just mist it with white vinegar, this will neutralize the ph level and clear the browning. Just thought I’d share some knowledge here. I sorta do this, I put my carpet out in the driveway before it rains, covering it with baking soda. The rain and baking soda does most of the work. When its finished raining, I let it sit and let some of the water run off, then move it over on the driveway and keep doing that until its dry. I use baking soda as it cleans and deodorizer and I don't have residue on the carpet.

  • @claytonroot806
    @claytonroot806 4 года назад +4

Pretty much EXACTLY what the professional carpet cleaning guys say NOT to do, ie never use Vinegar, don't scrub the carpet as it damages the fibers, and don't super saturate the carpet as you'll probably damage the underlay. An ingredient THEY tend to use in their mixture is 90+ percent Rubbing Alcohol. For drying, use a wet/dry shop vac to soak up the solution without scrubbing. Also, don't use excessive dish soap as you'll end up with a foamy mess which is harder to extract. In this case, less is more.
At any rate, it's your carpet so do whatever the hell you like.

Yes, I pressure washed some area rugs at the car wash 25 years ago and they looked like brand new, even the outside rug by the front door. They even have heavy duty clamps at the carwash. I recommend a few adjustments to what you do with this. First I would wet the rug first before you put you mix on that way you don't have to do that later, second I would suggest you get a curved squeegee to push more of the water at a time and lastly I wouldn't worry much about the tarp just lay it down then put your carpet on top of it that's it. Other than that this is pretty much how I clean my rugs and will be doing once I get my business up and running here shortly.
Edit:. Also you can use a leaf blower to help dry it quicker you would just need to elevate the carpet a little to do so.
