- UPDATE: I made this video 10 years ago, thinking no one would ever see it. I have no clue why the algorithm got a hold of it and started promoting it. No need to complain about it being too long, too blurry, too noisy, fake, dumb, or boring. Whatever snarky comment you're thinking about typing, trust me, it's already been said... multiple times. Only reason I leave this video up is because so many people have benefited from it. Thanks for watching.

Used this solution and method on dried red wine stains on a white carpet and it worked like magic. Can't wait to spill more stuff.
Excellent! May I recommend spilling a 1993 vintage Mountain Dew?
@James Cronin I just split open my jugular to give it a trhgiuuviivigvivkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
@James Cronin joe is dead now, this is his sister
@James Cronin no, I am greiving the loss of my brother at your cold and callous hands.
@James Cronin sorry, I would rather kill myself with a rusty butter knife 🤷♀️

There many stains on my carpet for over 6 years. I used this solution and they are all gone now. Thank you!
Wow.
Google User I like reading comments like this!
Really no shit??
Then there is hope for my carpet YAYYY😁
My spots and stain aren't that old, so there's hope! Thanks for posting!
I have to agree, I love this guy. How generous of him to not only share this with us but to offer his email and phone number??!! BRAVO.
My husband accidentally spilled black shoe polish on the floor... I looked up this RUclips video, tried out the rug recipe and it SUCCESSFULLY WORKED!!!! Thank you so much.
Nice!
Nina Daniel
You said your husband spilled shoe polish. Was that liquid polish or the paste as in the video?
Holy smoke! This totally got pink nail polish out of my beige carpet! You saved the day!
wow, I'm surprised because nail polish is extremely hard to take off.
The best thing is neat acetone. Doesn't leave a residue.
Windex works great on getting nail polish out on carpets 😉
We had a really hard time getting our puppy potty trained after bringing her home. I use a carpet shampooer on my carpet and I thought I had tried everything to no avail. This completely eliminated the stains and odor! I did still use my carpet cleaner with this recipe (I had a large area to clean) and it worked amazing! Thank you so much for this. It saved me so much stress!!!
fantastic!
This was the exact review I was looking for! Thank you for posting!
Thank you for your comment ❤ I have the same issue! Was looking for a fix! Glad to know this worked 😅 I was going to make a bunch and try it with my scrubber also because I’m doing my whole carpet at the same time, just pretreating with this…
I knew someone was going to comment about large area pet stain mess. Carpet guy made this look so easy. I actually realized about a month ago, by accident, that a wet/dry vac would actually extract unlike towels. Now I have a recipe since all the high priced 'pet stain removers' don't do a good job. Thank you, Carpet guy, and thank you, Nicole. I'm ready to defeat these stains, at long last.
New black bedroom furniture (2 bedside tables, a dresser and a chest of drawers) deposited 1" wide black outlines of the footprints on my new white carpet. That was over a year ago and I thought the carpeting would have to be replaced. Finally got brave enough give it a go. This formula and process removed them - completely!!
WOW! Your method really works! My dog vomited on an area rug and your secret recipe (and shopvac) cleaned it all out. Please don't ever take down this video. You're helping a ton of people!! -- THANK YOU! 😀
Save it into your downloads.
hi handsome, " my dog vomited", 😮 is he OK? offer him a light soup or a supper wet(with Italian water) & duck patte.
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!💡🎯🌟
* I am seriously stunned to hear that anyone would have a darn thing negative to say about someone offering such a helpful tutorial~ humanity can surely be disappointing, errggh. Your time & efforts are greatly appreciated~ THANK YOU👏👍😁
One can only assume it's from a competitor or rival channel! Or someone who's not well and gets off on trolling... 😒
@@221b-Maker-Street Truly. Who knew stain removal was such a hot-button topic, either way?! For the 30+ years I was involved in mental health/behavioral sciences, I might have found it an interesting study. These days, it's just irritating. Perhaps I've finally attained that grumpy old person, get-off-my-lawn status😂

Thank you for posting this. I followed your advice and removed a stain left by the previous owner. I had no idea what it was, but it came out great and the spot is completely gone. My wife was going to buy new carpeting and now there's no need. Thanks again.
Wow this stuff is amazing. Yesterday I spilled an entire medium Sonic cherry slush and I tried two carpet cleaning sprays we had and I scrubbed and it was pink. I just did this and it worked like magic! I’ve always been guilty of scrubbing carpet. Thanks again, so much better than store bought!
How can I get a pollen stain out of my carpet. I have used a carpet stain remover but, it is still there .
if you use dish soap make warm soapy water and soak it. put a dry white cloth over the stain and iron it. if needed repeat. I got a red kool-aid stain out that had been in the carpet for months before i tried this. after repeating it was gone.
I have been using this method for about 3 years now and it works better than anything I've tried in the past. Shop Vac is key! Anyway, thank you so much for posting this video. I can't understand why anyone would have negative remarks about this very helpful information.
Just moved into a home that BADLY needed carpets cleaned. Tried your method including the 1 gallon shop vac. It worked! Spots gone! The shop vac is so easy to carry around. Don't have to lug a huge shop vac up and down stairs. Thank you for putting something out there that does exactly as you said it would do!
Are you a renter? I came up with an agreement with each landlord I've ever had. And it always works!! I tell them I'm allergic to cats (which is true), but I also don't know how well the previous tenants cleaned and how often, so I want the place CLEAN no exceptions!! So, I tell them if they have the place professionally carpet cleaned now, then when I leave I will have the place cleaned again for the next tenants. They always agree. Now if you keep a clean place like I do and have a machine to clean carpets or a good vacuum or some kind of combination, that you don't have to pay someone.
I have never commented on "Do-it-Yourself" videos before, but your tips worked! I was able to remove a day old spot, using your recipe and my vacuum hose. Thanks so much.
UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE! I can't believe how well this worked! We have just done an extensive renovation on our house. The downstairs is all hardwood and the upstairs, including the stairs, is carpeted light gray. Well...I LOVE cabernet sauvignon. RED WINE!!! The first night in the newly carpeted bedroom, I knocked over a "pretty much full" glass of red wine. Ugh!!! Ouch!! That was 1 year ago. This method completely cleaned the stain. The new carpet looks new once again! Thank you SO much for this video!
This is lovely to read - a success story!
pro tip shop at the dollar store. they have spray bottles soap and spoons, rubbing alcohol and rags all dirt cheap.
Ok.

Didn’t he say NOT to use a carpet cleaner machine 🤔
@@indigowarrior6469 - I THINK as long as it has a suction to it, and not use the steam part?
AnnWith APlan Agreed 😉👍🏽😄
@N gate Good to know, I have Bissel spot cleaner and was debating if I also needed a shop vac. So thank you! :)
Wow, thanks for the information. What a team player you are... may you be richly blessed for sharing and explaining in detail how to do “AND NOT” how to do it. A joy of beauty and a sight to behold... after the cleaning process! 💫
Thank you for this video and to anyone complaining about the age, they can piss off. This info is priceless, and considering you do this for a living it's insane you posted it for free. May you be blessed immeasurably.
I used Oxiclean instead of alcohol and got similar results. Pet stains are a pain, thanks so much for providing the precise proportions, it really works!
I use this exactly like this demo for my counters in the kitchen, the dishes, my keyboard, everything. It's my favorite cleaner. I love to use distilled water which doesn't stain and spray the couch and chairs and suck it off with my Rigid.
Been using your spot cleaning technique for years on home reno's and rentals and residences. THANKS A MILLION!!
Excellent video dude! So well articulated and so detailed. Bravo👏🏻
WOW!!!! I'm sold on this! Thank you so much for making this video!
I used to clean carpets & upholstery professionally (not these franchise types). This guy is spot on. Pun intended.
You are the man!!! That was a great tutorial, the carpet looked perfect after you were done.
Never use vinegar for cleaning any type of fabric, unless you want the colour to adhere to the fabric. Vinegar is a colour fastener and stops dye from running in the fabric. The first time washing dark colour jeans, just wash with vinegar and cold water to keep the colour dark.
Waaah! I wish I knew this before chucking a load of 'vinegar and bicarb' mix on my off-white carpet... 😱
Thanks so much! I had hair dye on my white carpet. Bought the Walmart vacuum and followed all your instructions. So happy it worked!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You saved me a lot of money with your suggestion. I had no problem removing light and tough stains from a light colored carpet. You made my day, thank you.
Very well done video. Loved it. Highly professional.
It’s 7/2023…you are fine. Thanks. Appreciate you. And tips.
Thank you so much. I’ve been putting off cleaning carpets. I’m going to try this tomorrow.
I really hope life is beautiful and filled w awesome things for ya and whoever's else is responsible for making this video.. I really really do!! Thank you very much.
I also tried the same solution when I needed to clean my kitchen doors, bathroom and the walls out of curiosity as the bottle was already made up. It seems more effective compared to any commercial products. And it seemed to excel at getting stickers and pen off my kids bedroom doors.
Well yeah it's alcohol lol
Love!! Used this on my fabric couch, took me a few turns of alcohol to get it off. There’s only a faint line of pen ink left but you really have to look closely!! Thank you. Definitely need the wet vac!
This worked very well, in fact perfectly. Delivery guys rolled in a new fridge and left black grease marks on my white carpet. I figured I'd try this and was pleasantly surprised. Even bought a wet-dry vac. that I've used several times since for other mishaps. Truly a five-star video that was appreciated.
Very nice video. Thanks so much for doing it. Slow and steady so easy to follow. Most helpful.
Thanks Ross. I'll give this a try on my couch. My cat had a day of diarrhea and made a mess of my couch. Your tips are the best I have watched. I love the secret spot cleaner and the explanation on using a wet dry vac.
I used this method on cat vomit and some old stains on our rugs. I have to tell you it works! We have a light colored carpet that holds onto any spills. We tried many times on one stain for two years and as it dried the stain would reapear within 24hrs. This method got the old stain out for good. Thank you!
thank you , it really worked , i mixed it just the way you did and it worked , thank you , thank you
Had spots on a cream colored carpet that were more than 10 years old----we just used the room for storage---now room is clean carpet looks horrible so gave this method a try.
Worked perfectly. Did not need any extra alcohol.
Can't thank you enough!!
Family thinks I'm magic!!
nice!

That's amazing. A massive thank you for sharing this tip. And thank you for not making it boring! 😁
This is the best pro tip for cleaning spots on carpet that I have seen! I had two blacks stains on an old carpet for which I have tried every other type of stain remover over the last 15 years. I added a little more alcohol to the mix and then used some Goof Off for carpets because I had some type of sticky substance (gum?) remaining. Carpet looks great now given that both stains are gone!
Super helpful! Thanks for the recipe and technique. If I were in Indianapolis, I'd definitely do business with you.
Fantastic tip. I've had some stains on our stairs to the basement for close to 2 years. I've tried several things to remove them, unsuccessfully. Ross' concoction removed them with only one application...although I did work the carpet quite a bit with the tips of my fingers. Vacuumed it all up and it looks beautiful. Thanks Ross.
What a pleasant, calming voice sharing what appears to be a rather miraculous carpet spot- cleaning process...Thank you!
Yes, he has a really lovely demeanour!
Thank you so much. You saved my light blue wall to wall rug. Over 10 feet of water stain from roof leakage. The rug looks new.😊
I’ve watched 6/7 videos on shoe polish removal from carpet today. Your description of why extraction is so important makes terrific sense. Thanks. Well done.
Dude you made my day. My dog left a cow patty on my carpet this morning. I just watched your video, made the concoction, brought in the wet vac, followed the steps---worked like magic. Thank you sooooo much!
Nice, glad it helped!
Hi. I just used your solution and technique on some dried 3 day old diarrhea stains. THANK YOU for sharing this. I didn't think I would be able to clean it out of the carpet and now it looks SO much better. I even used it on an old upholstered bench from my Grandmother (I used cool water there) and it worked there too - no bleach or anything that damaged the wool in the upholstery in your recipe! I can't tell you how thankful I am to you for sharing this. This is such a load off of my back!! Be blessed!
excellent!
Wow, this worked perfectly on some stains of unknown origin on my carpet. Thanks very much!!!
I'm so excited to try this. Thank you.
Love this video! Hoping it can work on some areas that I already treated. From now on I will use this on my beige high maintenance carpeting. May still have to hire to get old stains that I set in by (ugh) scrubbing.
I am so pleased to be able to say that this method really works! I didn't have anything terrible like shoe polish to remove, but all the spots are gone!! I invested in a 2 1/2 gallon wet/dry vac and consider it a very worthwhile purchase! It has many uses besides the carpet cleaning use. Thanks to Ross from Indianapolis I will be able to keep my new carpet in great shape.
Excellent, this guy knows his stuff. Thanks Pal.
I was at my wits end with a spot in our home that we just purchased 4 months ago.I followed your instructions to the T. You are the spot genius. Thanks for the help, I mean,
THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!!
Thank you for sharing this info and for the great demo.
Bless you for sharing with us such helpful knowledge that saves us money and puts a star in your crown.
I tried this on two cat vomit stains that my cat sitter had tried to pick up with a cloth while I was away and had rubbed into the new carpet. This cleaner recipe and strategy worked like a charm!
Thank you so much I used this solution on my rug and it cleared up everything !!! I was so happy I was upset till I looked up this video
Thanks a thousand times for sharing this!!
WOW! Very informative. Thanks!
This worked thank you! I was so glad to get the oil stains out of my car carpet.
This one of the best way to remove the spots with great results. Thanks for posting this,
The eyeball! Very good information. Nice job.
WORKED like a CHARM!!! Wish I had found this video earlier!
Wowww!! I'm amazed. I was looking for info on another carpet problem & you were in the mix. So happy to have learned this information. Thank very much for sharing it.
thought i had ruined my mother's new white carpet with grease from a drill (carpet installed 1 week before), but this trick saved my life from a flying slipper! The mark is entirely gone, thankyou so much!
Thank you so much! I just installed new carpet and promptly had a pet get sick in several spots. Commercial products weren't helping but this worked like magic.
awesome!
Thank you so much for this easy DIY spot remover. It works! I had an old spaghetti sauce stain on carpet,, which I attacked with everything that Ross said not to do!, & just made it worse, so I gave up. Wouldn't you know, I spilled chili on the same carpet, but this time, I searched for a way to clean it, before doing anything. Reading not only all about this diy solution, I read all the comments, plus viewed Ross's other videos. It's obvious that Ross has a lot of experience, & cares about what he does. It's a great solution for everyday spills. No, you can't put it in your carpet cleaner. No, it's not intended for cleaning up major traffic areas such as hallways, stairways, your living room carpet--some stains even professionals find difficult to remove--you tracked in wet cement & your wife is upset??--be reasonable folks. All the details, the do's & dont's, are explained in the video. For a simple DIY spot remover for everyday spills & messes, this recipe works a treat.
This is the best spot removal demonstration ever. Thanks again!!!
I have had hard stains from years ago that the kids made and have had professional cleaning done. Nothing ever worked. THIS IS FANTASTIC. THE CARPET LOOKS NEW. I AM SO THANKFUL I FOUND THIS !!!!!!!!
This method worked excellent for me. I somehow spilled two globs of black cartridge printer ink on the beige colored carpeting. Using these ingredients I sprayed the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes and then used the shop vac and a lot of the ink was gone. I sprayed it again and this time I worked the mixture into the carpet with my finger and let it sit. After three minutes I vacuumed it up and the ink was completely gone. Can't thank you enough for this video!
Thank you!! I tried this on my new light beige carpet and it worked!!! 😉
Thank you for sharing your secret and knowledge in carpet stain removal in the carpet.
Easy recipe. Just tried it and my sister's carpet looks a lot cleaner removed several old stains
This demonstration gave me the chills. You're the best, TFS.
Wow, I knew I had animal magnetism, but I didn't know it was strong enough to give people chills!
@@CitruScrubCarpetCleaning Lol
Just tried this on an old stain and it worked like magic. Thank you. Thank you.
Wonderful video. A couple of points if you have a lot of wall to wall carpet and older pets. !. Buy the Vacmaster Beast 5 gallon shop vac and only use it for wet stuff. It has so much power the carpet is practically dry when you are finished. 2. HomeDepot has a Zep spray bottle that is short and wide. You can unscrew the sprayer part and put the bottle in your microwave to reheat the leftover spot remover. It seems to work better if it is almost hot. Don't boil it just keep it on the hot side. Thanks for the video and recipe it always works.
Excelente explanation. Thank you. I can't wait to give it a try at home.
Thank you. Well spoken, informative, and interesting. Not forgetting effective.
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe and detailed instructions. I experimenting with several different diy solutions and this works the best, like magic....btw even worked on my cheap 6 year apartment carpet stains and dirty traffic areas ... IT'S AMAZING!!!
nice!
I just made this cleaning mix, put it in my carpet cleaner and cleaned an old oil stain that was big, following the video, except I used a carpet cleaning machine as I don't have a shop vac. This worked like a charm !! I can't even believe the stain is 100 percent gone. This stain had been there for a couple months . Thank you so much for this video.
I plan to try this on a coffee stain but I first want to congratulate you on your ability to pour the solution into the bottle without spilling any!
I once heard that vinegar with carpet cleaning for machines is to be used to cut the previous soap residue left in carpest. As too much soap will attract dirt. I use it with my hoover as a rinse. but I love this tip for spills! also Hydrogen peroxide will lighten a dark dirty carpet. (make sure you test it on a small patch) so far so good!
This really works for us. I have 3 cats - 2 of them frequently vomit on my carpeting. We already had an old shop vac. We have no stains on our carpet which we have had for 3 years. The cat vomit has been on the carpet for days when we travel. We have had to use the cleaner several times but we have gotten the stains out. I definitely recommend this formula.
Thanks for the info and especially sharing you secret mixture. Seemed to work well. Experience does 'tell-the-tale'.
Thank you so much! From someone with white carpet and pets, you are my hero.
OMG! Cleaned spots out so well! Highly recommended!
I used this on a throw rug that we tried to clean a dog poop stain on, stain didn't come out. After a few weeks I tried this spot remover, it took the stain out like magic, highly recommended. Thanks a lot.
Great formula! Works like a charm.
If you already have a Bissel Spot Bot, it is great to use for extraction. I apply the cleaning solution by any means to get it into the stain, and work it with a brush, and a spray bottle of water for extraction. Keep using the plain water to remove the cleaning solution. You don't have to worry about using too much water, unlike adding more cleaning solution, which will stay in the carpet, because all of it cannot be extracted. On the other hand by adding additional water, the water will continually dilute the solution so that it is progressively extracted with each application of water and extraction. If you don't get all of the water extracted, it is just water and will evaporate.
A Wonderful How To video. I purchased the 1 gallon wet vac from Walmart online before the video was over. When you first said wet vac I thought that leaves out. I’m glad I continued to watch and found out about the 1 gallon wet vac.
Thank you so much.
GREAT! I can't wait to try it. I know that the alcohol/distilled water/ammonia mix for windows/computer works great, but didn't know to use alcohol for carpet spots. Thanks!!
if he is diluting the alcohol 10-15 times, how does it matter if it is 70% alcohol or 90% ???????????????
Omg! The solution really works! Thank you! It is awesome demonstration!!
THIS WORKS!! My mom's carpet is beige, over 20 years old, and has lots of "unique" stains such as jelly, old spots, etc. It is good to have a good extractor or steam cleaner to do a once over, but you will be surprised at how effective this is! You can't do without any of the ingredients, though. I tried that and wasn't successful! Thank you so much!!!!
Removed bearing grease that was tracked from my garage, up the stair runner, and into the light colored wool carpets in my kids rooms. Used 70% Iso, 1/2 tsp Dawn blue, 1 cup warm water and doubled the recipe. I wasn't able to get to the stains for several days as I was not in town, but it still only took 2-3 passes with the standard mixture and shop vac to remove the stains. I did pour 70% iso on a few of the darker stains and immediately hit them with the shop vac. Zero issues with this process when done correctly.
Thanks a lot for the recipe. I use it all the time and save money in my carpet cleaner. I've used laundry detergent instead of dishwash liquid as they are less foamy. That works as well.
Oooh, good tip on the laundry soap. Smells better, too.
Thank you so much for this. I've tried so many products and nothing worked so figured I'll try RUclips. So grateful your video came up. You're a real blessing. ❤
Amazing!
The alcohol and the shop vac are the key.
Thanks for sharing your super secret recipe
