After I became more comfortable with my manager I did ask him why I was selected. He said most other candidates were, unfortunately, too old and had too much experience in one particular field (i.e. 15+ years in air quality only) so they would be more difficult to train since what we do covers many different fields. They also liked my personality because other candidates were too serious during the interview, which is why I stress the importance of being friendly and approachable. Our role really involves interacting with people. This, however, is subjective because your interviewers may want someone with years of experience and someone who is serious with their work. Hello Randy, I am thinking about pursuing a degree in environmental degree. Few things before, since you work a us Air Force base I thought you might have some knowledge and can answer my question. I have a felony on my record, which was expunged (erased from my record, but government or secret clearance checks can still see it). My question is did you have to go through secret clearance?
Yes, I had to go through security clearance. They do run a very thorough background check, which lasted 3 months for me. Mine was the fastest out of all my coworkers and some had background checks and reference calls that lasted an entire year. Since I just came out of school and was relatively young, there wasn't much for them to check.

The job opportunities will vary greatly depending on your location. Some countries and states are more serious about the environment than others. I am not an employer and do not hire anyone, so I cannot say whether or not you will find a job. I made a video a while back on who hires environmental engineers
