height presets would be a good way for EA to incorporate height differences in the future without having to fully redo the animations for every possible height. It seems like it would be easier to have variations of the same animation for a few different heights than trying to make the animation scale to any possible height in that way. Hoping for some good stuff in the future!
With the way tech has advanced i dont think they would have to make individual animations, just use a tracking system from the hands to object for example. Like paralives said they're doing
@@rowanart4810 That’s true, it probably wouldn’t be as hard to implement that into project rene since the technology is already so much more advanced than it was when the sims 4 originally came out. Fingers crossed!
Yeah! Even if it was just 3 heights.
Preach! I’ve been saying this for years. Honestly, the only animations that have issues due to height are the romantic ones. Most animations still look okay even with the height difference.
So with presets it wouldn’t even be that many animations that need tweaking.

When rigging a character, you can define specific points where the characters will "glue" their hands to during certain animations. That's probably the reason why hugging and caressing their cheeks works well, because the shoulders and the cheeks are those defined points! :)

Yeah the only issue there is how it's handled. Since the game doesn't really know how to handle it, it just stretches out the arms or dislocates them. So the hands are no matter what going to be in the right spot but the arms will either suddenly grow or just not look attached. You notice it with the hugging and Bella's arms suddenly being longer.

With that in mind, it's probably to do with the body customizations that can already be done. Cheeks can be thinner or fuller, shoulders can be slimmer or broader, etc. Height is not the only factor that can make those animations look wrong.
It was honestly kind of sweet to see Mortimer kiss Bella's forehead and Bella snuggled into his chest. 🥰❤️

There’s been a height slider mod for a while like a few years. Clare Siobhan used this in the latter half in her dream house series.

Honestly if they did do height sliders officially, it’d be so funny if sims could do height-specific interactions, because that would make some really funny and more realistic interactions.

"Talk down to" for a sim talking to a shorter one. Depending on how big the height difference is, the shorter person could have a mad moodlet because the person isn't even that much taller.

Even the preteen mod they're still really tall for being like 12-14. Atleast with the height slider you can make the parents a tad taller and the preteen- teen a tad shorter. To give an illusion of a smaller preteen. I really want ea to just make a preteen stage

I love how in so many of the mod videos, Kayla already has the game open and needs to close it first. I know she's probably just trying to info you you need to close your game first, but I love the idea that she just literally never stops playing lol
for anyone who wants pre-teens, the pre teen mod is AMAZING!! It makes preteens shorter and makes them go to middle school (: they also go through different puberty centered situations
I love tjat mod! I have them go to high school but I use the chose the high school mates and then only have other pree teens in their class. Super cool!

There is an automatic shorter teens mod on mod the sims that makes the teens automatically shorter than YA and A sims. You can also choose between two heights so they can be a little shorter and even shorter. And animations are fine because all teens are the same height and there isn’t clipping with adult sims either.

HIGHLY agree with your point about preteens. We really just need a teen overhaul tbh. In Sims 5 I'd really like to see something similar to gradual aging for teens? "Teen" kinda covers alot of ground, so maybe as you progress through the teen lifestage their height and interaction options could change? For the latter is imagine it'd be similar to how toddlers interactions change based on their skills.
Yes! They could actually go through 'puberty' and how far along they are in it will affect how they look, in addition to other puberty stuff like acne and body hair and menstrual cycles (I know that those stuff exists in modes and some of the packs, but I really want puberty to be a proper thing, like a random bar somewhere, or a teen-specific skill, or maybe something similar to the fury system in werewolf) having them grow in hight based on how close they are to YA is the most realistic
@fruity4820 Maybe the body hair and menstrual cycle could be toggleable? Blood makes me squeamish and I don't like my sims having body hair 😭
I’d honestly prefer a teens refresh over the babies refresh. I (wrongly) theorized that because we had such a long gap of packs before High School Years that this must have meant they were doing a teen overhaul and they would finally look different, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I’m still optimistic though
I used to play w height sliders but it can make some interactions look awkward if the sims are too tall or too short :/ like when they kiss other sims or interact w certain objects it looks glitchy lol
Lol yup, that's the only reason why I didn't like the height mod. The animations look weird when sims were too short or tall
That and the fact that some heights tend to make your Sims' feet disappear were the main reason I ultimately stopped using this mod. It's a shame. Because if it works, it adds so much to the game.
I also found this mod recently and it's a must-have for me! Something about seeing sims at different heights adds more realism and personality for me 😋
I do hope Sims 5 adds height sliders. I think it would make a world of difference. Luumia is a very creative modder. Their body hair mod is amazing.

this is something that i really wanted. like you said we arent all the same size. im 6'4 so naturally i am taller than "most" people so when i play games that allow me to create myself i want to make my character taller. it adds to the immersion.

I'm 5ft 8, so im tallish for a girl. My bffs growing up were 4ft 11 and 5ft 2. Couldn't hear half of what they said 🤣🤣
@@KatelynxXxAngel 5'8 is definitely tall for a girl. that's like the perfect height though, my mother is 5'9. i had one ex that was 5'8 the rest have been like 5'5 max. lol my back already hurts, but when i got to lean over or bend down to talk/hear someone it sucks.
@@stevenwatts586 I'm 6"2 (when I stand up straight - i essentially gave myself Scoliosis as a kid/teen just trying to blend in). All my early BF were short, and the backache is real!
I actually want preteens for the whole middle school aspect. In previous sims games, we have never gotten the full picture of what life is like. It's nice now that we will have essentially, newborns, infants, toddlers, kids, teens, young adults, adults and elderly. We almost have all of the life stages we really go through. Adding preschoolers and preteens would kind of finalize the remaining gaps we have.
Been using this mod for years and it's great for adding more variety to my sims and I also used Luumia's body hair way before the high school dlc.
I agree I think it sound better updating the kids and teens rather than adding pre teens. I relation to the height slider I'm still a bit concerned abuot the caress cheek-animation if it was the lower person caressing the taller person's cheek - it might be that the lower person would stick their hand into the taller persons chest or something 😅 but all in all like you I wouldn't mind some wierd looking animations, it's still a nice feature, that I might try out when I play some more 😊 Thanks for your rambling content, I love the autenticity, don't ever change ✨✨💛💛
I mean sims 4 teens are like 16/17/18, and you don't grow after that so them being noticeably shorter than adults would be weird.
@@LangkeeLongkee exactly! honestly the only way to make it not seem weird IS by adding pre teens (12-15 yrs old ish even tho 15 year olds are alr teens), and by changing the childs age from 12 ish to 6-9 ish
@LangkeeLongkee you don't stop growing until like 18-20, which is an adult. On top of that, maybe we'd rather younger teens, since you start being a teen at 13, not 16.
@jeriel preteen is 10-12, since theyre PRE teenage years. Teens start at 13, hense the teen suffix at the end of each number there. It doesn't make sense for preteens to include teen ages. Honestly, the kids are already like 12 yr old size, they just act like 6-8 yr olds. An update that makes both teens and kids a little younger looking would be the best option
@@theekatspajamas I only said 15 cuz u still look young for the most part at that age, they should just add younger teens around 14 ish or maybe 12 ish and then make kids younger
i hope that some time in the future they actually put this in the real game because it just makes sense
Nice thing with the height slider is that is don't just stretch or squash the Sim, it also have a proportional effect on their girth. Taller Sims are broader and smaller Sims are thinner.
What would be GREAT would be for the Sims actually progressively grow up in the infant, toddler, kid and teen life stage.
I've had this slider mod installed since I started playing and it's a game changer. if your really short sim has a child with another really short sim, their child has a chance of being short as well, same with really tall sims. it's honestly so much fun

There was a height mod for Sims 2. I don’t mind as much that all the adults are the same size, but it really bothers me that there’s so little distinction between teens and adults in Sims 4.

this is one of my absolute favorite mods, has been a must have for me for a while because it’s really fun to make them different heights as it gives them more personality
I don’t really want preteens but if they implemented height presets, I’d love to see a random growth spurt feature where the kid gets taller but not quite teen height yet at the end of childhood to ease the transition into a teenager! I feel like going from 8 to like fifteen is pretty jarring lol

A pre-teen life stage would be an amazing Idea. Specifically in relation to puberty. There could be like a first period achievement thing, and like moodlets for like growing hair and voice cracks. They could add like a first day of high school thing in there, and like mood swings. Maybe a first crush thing as well. They already have a first kiss thing in the sims , but they could change it slightly for the pre-teens. Of Couse they'd have to add middle school which would change basically nothing except saying the sims are going somewhere else, but still. And best of all, they could do more than the kids, but less than the teenagers, so that it seems like way less drastic of a switch between ages.
I haven't used mods or CC at all in the past- not for any major reason, I'm just lazy- but this mod might just be the one that makes me start using them because it really is a good change. And seeing the way the animations changed isn't much of a problem to me. I find things like the portraits and incorrect kissing animations to be funny, honestly.
also i gotta say i love the fact that the sims has so many amazing creators that they end up working for the actual game , i dont know a lot of other video games that is that much accessible
I also want more distinction between young adults and adults, they seem so similar. I'd love to have some more gameplay specific to young adults. Maybe with an elders update!😂

I love height sliders! The one I use is feet based, and I’ve noticed that it forces npc sims to have variating heights because of this. Brant Hecking is SO TALL 😂
sadly this mod is broken by the infant patch and luumia shows no sign of updating it soon...I definitely regret updating my game because I would rather have the height difference than those annoying infants 😞 Gaaahh!!! Does anyone know other height sliders that work with the latest patch? PLEASE tell me

Redhead sims actually has some sliders for that, as well as one for aduts/teens. I actually prefer that one since the legs don't bend weirdly on short sims, but you can use it together with Luumia's since they're in different places.
I resonantly messed around a lot with sliders in sims 3. And a lot of the times the sims would snap there hands to the thing they where trying to touch and it looks kinda the same here. So it seams that hand positioning inset hard coded into the game. Meaning that implementing more height options would work.
I’ve been using this mod for maybe a year now? And I absolutely love it! Yeah your sims clip and some animations look weird, but it really does add depth to your game!! (I know I basically just repeated everything Kayla said, but I wanted to renforce it!)
Preteen life stage could be so cool though. they could make the sims have more emotion bombs, different quirks as well as maybe having more hobbies they pick up and they can have them start going through puberty through that life stage!

This would honestly be really helpful for me as I’ve wanted to do a sort of “ my life in the sims “ game/video for a while now because when I was in primary school I was significantly taller than the other kids and this would help.
There’s also a mode when you can change the body type of a child!
Honestly as someone who is five feet tall in a world made for people who are at least 5'5, the fact that short sims don't fit properly in the portrait thing and u can only see the top half of their head is realistic.
i used to have a similar mod in my game (whichever one it is where you adjust the height by changing the size of their feet) and i had a sim couple who were slightly different heights. just enough that when the taller one kissed the shorter one "on the cheek" he actually kissed his temple. it was adorable and i looked like the surprised pikachu meme the first time i saw it fr

Yes, preset heights would be great, it would also help for storytelling when the kids inherit different heights and how they feel about it, maybe some mean interactions related to height... I dunno

BTW I have a similar mod in my game, but the slider is in the sim's feet. It also makes existing sims in your game different height automatically. Can't remember the name tho..

i would just love more realistic and dynamic body sliders in general. for example, the fat sliders only *expand* things like the arms and stomach and stuff, it’s not really that realistic how real bodies look. if anyone knows any good body slider mods please let me know!

I'm surprised you haven't seen/mentioned this mod before, I've had it for maybe a year or so now and it was the first mod I went looking for when I got back into simming. you can also adjust the height at the sims feet by moving your mouse left or right over them. I'm excited you're bringing more attn to it though! 🥰😃
i feel like proper height differences would be possible in ts4 if they made teens a little bit shorter by defualt and had height presets that are a little bit different, but enough that you feel. like you're customizing sims. and then they would only really have to tweak the animations a little bit. to make them work.

why am i getting emotional about bella goth being short like me? i never really thought about sims heights before but it'd be so nice to be able to have short and tall sims.
I think pre-teen stage of life could be a cool feature.
A sim becomes slightly smarter and encounters his/her first real tasks and responsibility. In this age kid absorb any information so fast and they start to reflect their parents. So I think it could influent further character traits and some additional perks maybe. So it's gonna be a hard time parenting that could add some challenge for the player.

How they could make it so every interaction works would be for kissing: lips to lips. And those two points attract to each other (like magnents) instead of it being “at this height will be the kiss”

There’s multiple height sliders out there, one of those mods set the Teen height to be shorter by default. And, I think it came out a few years after TS4 released.
A few of the other height sliders don’t have the stiff leg or bendy leg issue Lumia’s mod has when making sims taller/shorter.

I was actually my adult height by the time I was 14 though, so I actually feel like it is realistic for teens and adults to be the same height. The issue I really have and why I want height variation has more to do with not every adult is 5’7” or whatever, not every child is the same height either. But I actually think most people reach their adult height by the time they are teens.
Like, when I was in 2nd grade I was a whole head taller than my best friend (also in second grade) and only a head shorter than my teacher
i agree, especially because some teens (who reach their adult height) are taller than most adults, it'd be awkward and unrealistic for all teens to be shorter
Females that is the case a lot but males can keep growing until they are 25.

I've only used the Lumia height sliders, but red headed sims has hight sliders for toddlers up incase you want to try those out and compare

if a modder can create the Wicked whims mod and create se..xual animations from scratch, i am sure if someone wanted to do so enough , someone could create custom alternative animations+social interactions to go along with a height slider.
