      Why is the float test BS?

    • @tuttyfat
      @tuttyfat Год назад +11

      @@beyondview it doesn't take into effect the texture (fine, medium, coarse) of hair. Coarse hair weighs more than fine hair.
      I have super fine and very high porosity hair. When I did the float test the hair took longer than 10 minutes (which is "low porosity according the the test). However, I know, for a fact, I have high porosity because for the last 20+yrs every stylists has told me this.
      Hair porosity and texture are very important to know since they determine how to get and keep healthy hair, which products to use and how to use them.
      Curl type is the least important especially since everyone has varying types all over. Beyond knowing if your hair straight, wavy, curly or coily the actual, specific "type" (3a, 3b, 3c) doesn't matter.

      That can also be bad for your hair depending on how much protein is in the conditioner and how often. I almost ruined my hair conditioning every two weeks and sitting under the dryer too long. Also, it’s important to rinse good using very warm water to reduce buildup on the hair afterwards. Now if I use a protein conditioner it’s once every 2-3 months.

      @@bdestiny I’m not. But you can look it up. Our hair tends to be highly porous. That’s why it’s frizzy and dries out fast, which cause breakage. We can moisturize it and a day or two later it’s dried out and needs moisture again. There is this thing in the natural hair community where everyone believe they have low porosity hair but that not a characteristic of curly hair especially kinky Afro curly texture.

    Can anybody gives tips on how to regain moisture to low porosity hair? I been trying new products.. curl definers, conditioners, etc and it’s helped a little but I still experience hella frizz and dryness. I rarely oil my hair anymore because it feels like it glides over my hair if that makes sense. I need a gamer changer hunny lol, any advice?

    • @bdestiny

      Maybe try hair cream instead of a conditioner or hair definers. I like to use anything with honey in it. Try using a hair cream specifically for moisturizing hair. Also since you’re low porosity like myself, use warm water to wash/rinse your hair first then use the hair cream in sections. You can then use a light oil to seal the moisture. Hope that helps!

      I have thick fine and thin strand 4c hair and noticed Type A avocados for hair masks, aloe Vera juice and gel and the yellow shea butter my hair LOVESSSSS and finally get the best twists outs when wetting my hair and then twisting with shea butter or castor/or canola oil.
      Also noticed that water matters a lot to our hair type and good ph water. Washing or rinsing my hair at home afterwards my hair strands feel dry and feels like I have to instantly add conditioner but after going over someone else’s house and using their water I forgot my hair products but my hair was soft, manageable and soft the next day after staying over (after being in twists) and WITHOUT my regular hair oils and conditioners and that was when I noticed I don’t need them as much as I thought. They had really good and soft water. So I started to think of I can’t afford a shower filter I need to wash my hair under a big bowl or the sink with water bottle water with a good ph. If I can drink it so can my hair.
      I just need to have the right water that is not hard water that may give off high deposits of iron, calcium, lead and God knows what it in going into my hair while keeping it stretched with twists that have lest tension then when braiding my hair with loose braids. That or doing the rubberband and method to keep my hair stretched and surprisingly when doing that I can wear my hair out in a fro throughout the day when it is dried from my morning rinses and notice that it doesn’t knot up.

      No, low porosity is a sign of healthy hair. If you want more porosity you can dye your hair so you open a little bit your cuticles.

      @@jannymaria3367 porosity isn't a sign of health. Just like curly or straight hair, porosity of your hair which is affected by genetics. Dye won't change porosity but bleaching (lightening, highlights) will. Dye lays on top of hair, bleach opens hair shaft to remove natural color. Hot water will temporarily open hair shafts however excessive heat (straighteners, hairdryers) will open it but it causes damage. Consistently washing hair in very hot water will also damage.

      @@higherharoldelliot.r4182 Hey! I used to struggle with this until I created a regimen (hair routine ) for my hair on wash days. I would say to find out your hairs porosity (your hairs ability to absorb moisture) whether it may be high, low or medium.
      It’s important to know because it helps you to be better able when styling your hair. I learnt that I have low porosity hair, so I try not to use too much heavy creams and butters light weight leave in conditioners instead. Then, I apply gel using the shingling method. I also make sure my hair isn’t too wet (but damped) when applying the gel. This keeps my hair more defined and it lasts longer.
