    Sorry for sounding like a broken record but, I really want to help the viewers who are still a little lost understand this topic. If you understand porosity really well, help a sista out and answer some questions (below). The next video will be on how to tell if your hair is MEDIUM POROSITY.

      Green Beauty Channel ™ can you also tell me why when my hair is SOAKING WET, it still looks like it is dry. No shine no hanging, just little drops of water sitting on top of my strands throughout every single time. I could've ran my hair through warm (or cold, I've tried both) running water in the shower for 10 minutes and it still appears that way. I already know I'm low-porosity, so I do clarify often (weekly), I deep condition, I seal with Shea and other butters, but is there anything that can be done about it? I just would just like my hair to "look" wet when it is wet, lol (maybe I watch too many high/med porosity hair gurus on YT or something, am I brainwashed?)

      Thanks, I'm a new natural and your videos have helped me understand and identify my hair concerns. I still a little confused about the LOC & LOC method far as the products. Liquid leave in or cream leave in, C ,shea butter mix or curl cream.
      Over all your videos are very educational. Thanks Happy Fu for the referral.

    My natural hair has characteristics of both low/high porosity. It dries extremely fast yet is hard to moisturize (once it's moisturized, it stays that way for days), has high shrinkage, tangles easily, benefits from moisturizing treatments, and needs to be clarified more frequently.

    I always thought my hair was medium porosity because it's healthy. After watching these videos, I've learned that my hair is likely lower on the porosity scale, but it's healthy because I've been inadvertently doing things that work for low porosity hair, like deep conditioning with heat. Now I know the why behind my hair taking forever to dry and the LOC method being too much product for my hair in most cases. Thank you!

    • @FineNaturalHairandFaith
      @FineNaturalHairandFaith 7 лет назад +1

      your hair sounds like mine! I have normal porosity all over but low in the bulk of my crown. The only thing I do different is I do use LOC in the winter (or LCO). I also use lots of protein. I think porosity is not the only thing that determines things like the use of heat and protein. The thickness of the strands definitely plays a role.

      How long does it take your hair to dry?

    • @nphowe
      @nphowe 7 лет назад

      If I do a flexi rod set, I'll sit under my hooded dryer attachment for 1.5 hours. I've been fully natural for almost 5 years and up until last year, braid outs were my go-to style. I'd have to wash my hair in the morning for the braids to be dry by the following morning. Even then, my braid out would never look quite right on the first day; even if my hair was fully dry, it didn't dry "nicely". I learned that when styling my hair wet, I have to do twists because twists give more air circulation than braids.

    • @nphowe
      @nphowe 7 лет назад

      I think our hair is a bit similar! I was watching some of your videos around the beginning of the year. I live in New Orleans but I'm from Jersey, so I imagine that I'd do the LOC method in the winter too if I was home. The only time I do it now is if I'm banding my hair to let it dry and then twisting the next day on dry hair. I don't remoisturize my twists, so I like to make sure my hair has enough moisture before I put them in. I'm not sure what my strand thickness is... maybe medium with some fine. But I have a very dense head of hair.

For example week 1 clarify, week 2 co wash or even by days. I'm having trouble trying to find a good curly hair routine. Like how many times a month do I shampoo my hair, how many times do I co wash, how often should I deep condition, how often should I do protein treatments, f I should put oil in my hair every night and etc. Please help me and all the other lost curlies out :( lol thank you!!!

    When my hair was shorter I had no problem taking care of my hair. Now that my hair is on the two-year mark going on three years it's breaking bad and I basically had to do another big chop. I thought I understood everything I needed to keep my hair in check, but now I'm learning that there is even more steps to this.
    And my hair is fine too? That's another 600 steps. This struggle is so real, but this video taught me a lot. Thanks Green Beauty.

I have been doing the LCO method since May 2013, and it kinda works for my low porosity hair since I have retained length, but I think that the leave in and oil or the leave in and cream methods will work better for me. I'm really struggling to work out what my hairs porosity is, as I feel like it has characteristics of both low and high. Any help would be deeply appreciated! I have
    The low porosity characteristics it has are:
    - it takes quite a bit of effort for my hair to get wet - water beads up on my hair strands
    - Moisturisers and creams tend to sit on top of my hair easily rather than being well absorbed
    - Likes Deep conditioning with heat (but sometimes too much moisture can leave it feeling brittle, hard and mushy - high po characteristic?)
    - Takes a very long time to dry
    - Prone to product build up
    - Doesn't like heavy oils as sealant
    - Significant shrinkage
    The high porosity characteristics it has are:
    - not too protein sensitive / likes moderate protein
    - I feel as if it takes in too much moisture from the air especially - prone to frizz - styles and curl definition does not last
    - My hair sunk every time I did the float test (on conditioned, clarified, deep conditioned AND styled hair)
    - I have quite fine hair strands
    - My hair is relatively easy to stretch
    - Breaks quite easy - not very strong
    Characteristics of both
    - Hair feels a mixture of bumpy and smooth when I slide up my hair strand) but mainly bumpy
    - Prone to tangles as well as single strand knots
    - Feel like light oils aren't enough to seal moisture but heavy oils leave my hair feeling brittle
    My hair is entirely 4b/c natural, never relaxed nor colour treated and I rarely use heat so I don't understand why I have so many high porosity characteristics and I get high porosity in all my tests! Help please and Have a beautiful day everyone x

    I did the float test and my hair floats, that made me assume I was low porosity. I had been using low porosity products and noticed my curl patter didn't have as much structure after months. My hair seems to like protein, it gets wet fast but does not dry fast. Day 2 3 is usually when my hair is more dry and the curl feels set. My hair usually holds some of its pattern while wet but I have been noticing alot of wet frizz lately. I don't think I have the protein moisture balance I just can't tell my porosity

    This is so mew to me. I have 2a-2b hair, air dry time is about an hour (it’s long and thick), super dry ends, kind of frizzy, and snarls easily. It feels like nothing can ever really moisturize my ends - so would that mean low porosity?

    I usually use the L.C.O.G method lol leave in, cream, oil and gel. I add the gel after to reduce flakes but to add hold. I also have to use heat because my hair will not stay stretched if I dont use it. I use the banding method along with my blow dryer to get the most stretch. I definitely feel like I have characteristics of both. I’ve heard using warm water on either porosity level is good because the cuticle can absorb the products better since the warm water is lifting the cuticle to slow moisture in. That’s definitely helped me because I never understood the cool water thing 😂

    So I've been watching your videos for a little while now and I LOVE them ❤, but I really need your help. For a while now I thought my hair was high in porosity only because it was so dry, I found out this was because I didn't moisturize my hair, but now that I've watched your how to identify low porosity hair again I think that my hair might be low porosity. I've noticed that whenever I moisturize my hair ( I use castor oil on my hair) it feels very weight down and just like it has too much produced, keep in my mind that I thought my hair was high in porosity so I was just packing it with products. Do you think that this might be a sign that my hair is low porosity? It would mean a lot to me if you'd reply and if anybody else can help I'd appreciate it, Thanks.

    hey can anyone tell me my porosity? ok so I have hair that frizzes up really easily, like basically hardly holds a style. I always pre poo, my hair loves it. my hair also likes to be sealed with a shea butter mix (everytime I tried grapeseed oil--a light oil--my hair would feel very moisturized while still damp but when my hair dried it would be Bone dry with lots of knots). When I apply my deep conditioner , I noticed my hair responds way better with soaking wet hair.If my hair is properly moisturized it'll take anywhere from 10-15 hours to dry but if I wash my hair at night and put no or minimal product in it it'll dry completely overnight. But when I consistently use the same mask on my hair , I feel like over time my hair stops responding as good. That's why I had to stop using the Shea Moisture Superfruit Masque and again the Manuka Honey Masque. My hair also gets really dry with their coconut and Hibiscus line , which has high amounts of protein, especially the curl and style milk. Small amounts or no protein my hair is fine with(well come to think of I may do a protein treatment soon) My hair may also not like aloe but I'm not sure yet. I find if I apply products to my hair when its not damp enough it doesn't feel nearly as moisturized. I feel like I must always start any style with spraying water on my hair or it won't penetrate. In general though, I don't feel like I have to fight to get moisture in my hair. My hair on a good week can stay moisturized for 3-5 days. If my wash day doesn't go good , my hair will be unmoisturized in a day or two. Sorry for the long comment , I just have no idea of my porosity because my hair shows characteristics of both high and low.

    Can you do a video on repairing hair from overuse of protein and henna glosses? i was doing glosses every 2 wks. weeks. i took a break for approx 6 wks and used Apoghee...ever since, my hair started to create major tangles easily, hair now feels feels like cotton wool and I'm unablw to wash it loose anymore. After researching what to do i keep hearing to do lots of DCing and moisture moisture, moisture. Its been at least 6 months and my hair texture is still not returned fully to normal. I treat my hair like low porosity but i dont think my hair takes 'forever' to dry. I weart my hair in a 'dry' version of a WnG (meaning i add gel to my dry hair after wash/DC/ spray with AVJ, add LI:SMCES, SM Styling Milk optional, and Castor oil to seal) instead of wet. Dont know why but i get really high definition curls and they dont tangle very much on my 4b 4c coils). Plenty compliments and it lasts for days looking like it was day one curls!!! Light spritz and shake in the morning and ready to go. If i did wng on wet hair the results are lower definition, more tangles etc. Natural for 7 yrs and just finding what works WNG-wise! Length approx 11". How do I get my texture back?

      christine1962ful you can't repair hair. the only option is to cut. unknowingly I changed my 4ab to 4c. overuse of protein being in everything from shampoo to leave ins & moisturizers. I my hair was dry, brittle, stiff. I had to suck it up & gradually cut off all the damage. took 2 years to get back my hair health.

    Is African threading a good way to stretch low porosity hair? I would use a blow dryer to stretch my hair out, but I do twistouts to much and I know I would have heat damage. I'm planning for my regimen to be wash day, stretch with African threading, short term protective style for a week, and then do a twist out or other stretched styles. Would this be a good regimen? My hair is dense, and coarse as well.

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  7 лет назад +4

      That sound like a good regimen. Try it out and pay attention to how your hair responds. Over time you can update the way you do certain steps and find ways to improve the process. That's the best way to build a regimen, trial, error and update.

    • @GreenBeauty

      Be careful not to thread too tight with African threading, if done wrong, over time, it can damage your hair as much as a blow dryer can.

    It's funny because I've always said using heat on my hair, helped me retain length. I never knew why. But now I know because I have low porosity hair. It breaks more when I don't use heat.

    People are so confused. She INSISTS that high porosity hair stays wet for a long time. She says this is how you identify it and that we all have it wrong! That low porosity hair dries quickly.

    Can you please make a video on wether or not hot oil treatments are good for the hair? Your videos are so informative and i'm really curious if they'd actually help the health of my hair!

    • @Ossouko
      @Ossouko 7 лет назад +2

      avionmember101 yes they are. If you want to do it to give your hair a boost and protect it from the stripping effect of shampoos use it as a prepoo (before shampoo). If it's for repairing and hair growth it needs to be done on clean hair (After your a clarifying shampoo). I remove the excess oil with a very gentle moisturising cleanser.

    • @avionmember101
      @avionmember101 7 лет назад +4

      I was just curious because the act of coating your hair with oils seems kinda of counter productive. I would think that it would block future moisture from your conditioner, leave in etc. I know it FEELS good after we do a hit oil, but i'm not sure if it's really doing what we think it is

    • @Ossouko
      @Ossouko 7 лет назад

      avionmember101 if you have low porosity and possess a steamer use it to open your cuticles before you apply the oil mix. or you can spray your hair with warm water. I have good results both ways. The second technique is lengthy but I had the best results. I do it once or twice a month now.

    If my hair is high porosity will putting plastic bags on my hair for over 30 minutes be damaging? For example the video by GreenBeauty the onion, garlic, and cayenne pepper treatment for hair requires putting a plastic cap on for two hours or get under the dryer for 30 minutes-Will putting the plastic cap on for two hours damage high porosity hair?

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  6 лет назад +2

      Good question ... its true that every time you put on your hair (directly or indirectly) it further relaxes your cuticles. If you do it too often or too long it can permanently weaken your cuticles. Wearing a shower cap and/or sitting under a hooded dryer for 30 min will cause your cuticles to relax but not to the point where you can't reverse it with counter active efforts like the REAL Protein Treatment and using products with an acidic pH (pH of 4 or 5). Think of it as a balancing act ... you don't want to over relax your cuticles and you want to counteract the damage. B/c in reality every time you touch your hair you are inflicting some level of damage to it.

    My hair takes forever to get completely soaked up in the shower, but it dries like 2 seconds after I step out of the shower. Also, the LOC method works better for me because when I tried to apply cream to my hair, it just sat on my hair and created a white film. However, I noticed that when I applied oil, my hair LOVED it and drankk it up! That’s why I reversed from the LCO method to the LOC method. What is my porosity?

      No normal does not mean low and high. Does that even make sense to you? What’s so hard to understand people? It means just what it says, it’s normal. Normal porosity means your hair absorbs products normally and you don’t get any reaction or problems with absorption. Low means you have trouble getting products to absorb, and high means products go in easily but can’t stay in. It’s not this low/high mix up people are spewing. You are low, you are high, or you are normal. End of story

    Still confused on my porosity 😔. The strand floats in water. Oil usually sits on my hair. So I thought it was low porosity. But my hair also dries quickly, is dry, breaks and and tangles a lot like high porosity. Any advice?

    • @cknight888
      @cknight888 4 года назад

      You want to make sure you did the test accurately.
      You test it by using a CLEAN, INDIVIDUAL hair strand. The hair strand has to be free of product, oils, etc. and please make sure you use a single hair strand. Understand what a single hair strand is.
      Also, when doing this test, you have to stick one finger in the water (along with the hair strand) until the hair strand sinks all the way to the bottom. Once the hair strand has sank, you can take your finger out of the water. It should take 2-4 minutes for the strand to sink.
      If the hair strand stays at the bottom of the cup then you have high poro., if the hair strand floats up to the middle then you have medium poro., if your hair strand floated back up to the top, the. You have low poro.
      Hope I could help!

I'm not particularly great at putting my hair in twists/braids/bantu knots...or anything...I'm not one for manipulating my hair at all.....So I was wondering if it was totally necessary to put hair into 2 strand twists when doing this method? Or can I manage fine without it?

    Hi! So I have low porosity hair but I also have very fine hair. How should I go about doing a protein treatment, if any?

    • @Ossouko
      @Ossouko 7 лет назад

      InhaleWithJael you need to use hydrolysed protein. Ex : products like Hair mayonnaise from ORS or JBCO mask from Sheamoisture should do. I wouldn't advise products like Aphogee for low po but if you do make sure you use a good moisturising conditioner right after to balance it out.
