- Since you've just discovered ASMR, I decided to put together this special video just for you. I experiment with a variety of methods and objects, some old and some new, to determine which ones work best for you. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll all work!
For those of you who aren't newbies or don't experience ASMR, maybe there's still something new in here for you, or at the very least it'll help you to relax and sleep.

What is ASMR?
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills.
ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
“My name is Paul, but a lot of people refer to me as E.R.”
Many people refer to you as “Daddy Rift”, too.
And Uncle E
Funsyze this needs to be a top comment
Papa rift
E meme
Funsyze you want a fucking scholarship?
I really like the fact that he wears suits in his videos. It makes me feel very comfortable. I don’t know why. And the dark background is just perfect. He really knows what he’s doing
I really appreciate the dark atmosphere in ER's videos. Too many ASMR videos that are overly bright by comparison...and if I'm trying to sleep, the bright doesn't help. And it pisses my wife off. So the dark atmosphere is appreciated.
Regarding the suit(s?) - my gut tells me it's mainly for the fabric noises.
Destiel your profile pic is everything!
Destiel he's the best out there, I think
Rae Black thank you 💕
Chad Caughmann yes many ASMRtists use bright backgrounds which actually makes me avoid watching the video and just listen to the audio. ER is one of the best in my opinion
I've never been so happy to rush to an ER.
Ewan Walker it's 10 AM and I haven't slept

At first I found the ASMR videos cringy, but now it's a part of my daily routine.
Chicken Burrito XD is cringy.
There are still a lot of ASMR videos I just can't deal with. Darling, as nice as she may be, always ends up creeping me out more than relaxing, and a lot of the ASMRtists that do lost of tapping videos are way too aggressive and fast with them...
'xD'
same
Chrom Fell Well, I almost never watch the mainstream ASMR channels, I find channels such as Rift, ASMrtica and early Taffy videos way more creative and overall funnier to watch. Also it’s very subjective what triggers work for you, I need aggressive tapping in order to not fall asleep haha
I’ve been watching these videos for a few months and although I can’t experience “tingles” I watch the videos every night as I find it very relaxing and it helps me sleep
Skydra maybe youve experienced way more intense stimuli *wink* that can be the reason, for tingles, atleast for me, isnt a very strong sensation
I know I am kinda 5 months late, but i saw this and I feel the exact same way, they are relaxing but I have never felt a tingle.
This is an international crisis
Somebody rush this man to the E.R.
I used to get tingles easily now I don't get them nearly as much and when I do they are weak
Sad

Hi There you're a God 🙏
Hands down one of the coolest ASMRtists.
Not just an asmrtist, but aso an awesome actor
ASMR Darling: 100+ videos of her brushing a mic..
Ephemeral Rift: Overflowing with creativity like a late Beatles record on LSD!!
Mario Venditti one of he is
Funny enough, he was doing the hand motions (specifically moving them down) when I read this 😂
Fax
I remember the first time I stumbled upon ASMR. The tingles I got were insane. Wish I could go back to that moment, again.
haha, same!
The first hit is always the best. 😂
Blue Azure luckily, I don’t think you can OD on it.
random falling asleep is just the OD on tingles
lol sounds like we're talking about drugs. But for real the first time is always the best.
Let me know if I missed any trigger(s), feel free to correct me wherever is needed to:

I remember in Kindergarten when we used to play massage games all the time or drew on our backs with our fingers. Defenitely my first ASMR expirience :)
sofiesusi sameee
Mine was when i was really little, and my friend was drawing a picture. He was just doodling and i sat there and i had no idea what was going on but it felt so great. I kept asking him to draw pictures for me and he must've thought i was crazy.
Lol same. I loved to watch people color with crayon. Also, my teacher used to tap her fingernails on her desk....oof I felt so weird
Yes! Having my hair played with as a kid was a big trigger too 😌
What school did y'all go to xD
He's really committed to dropping the man-made fabrication of time and I'm loving it
Honestly feeling ASMR varies for me, I can have a day where I have to click through a couple dozens videos to find something, sometimes I just Know what will trigger it, and other, like this one (for the time being) just about everything gives me goosebumps. What usually is a big trigger, and probably why I like Deep One Dave, is someone speaking in a language I don't know, or being inaudible. as I like to fall asleep to ASMR, and when I don't know what the person is saying, my brain doesn't focus on it, and I can fall asleep easier.
Dylan Fuller Love the way you articulated this. Now I understand even more why I love listening to korean ASMR. The way my brain doesn't work overtime to focus on what they're saying as well as the crisp pronunciation of their words.
Blue Azure
I like to listen to this ASMRtists (Ephemeral Rifts) videos with Deep One Dave, or Cthulhu (these are just a couple in case you wanted to check them out, he speaks it in other videos too), as they'll sometimes speak in the weird Lovecraftian language. If it's not them, I like to listen to Polish ASMR videos, idk why my brain likes Polish, but I sometimes listen to them too.
Susurration & sibilance seem to be very very good triggers.
Have you seen Dr Tingles inaudible videos my faveeee! My fave is “the most misunderstood cranial nerve exam”
@@vessigerauaa yeah I have the same problem and a similar issue with inaudible whispering because I always try to make out the words and then I’m so focused on that, that I can’t fall asleep xD
Man this video me think of the times when I WAS new to ASMR. Found GentleWhispering about 6 years ago and it was the biggest "AH HA" moment of my life. So awesome to have watched the ASMR community grow since then!
Thanks ER for another great video!
Captain ASMR 6 Years?! Damn what an OG!
Have you heard MassageASMR? Dmitri, in Australia, bald guy. He's one of the best and he cites GentleWhispering as a source of much inspiration. Personally I only listen to Paul and Dmitri, they are consistently high quality.

It’s Riftypoo 😒😒
I like to call him Uncle E
I dont understand this daddy/momma stuff in these asmr threads
Ryu Zane
Naw youre good, it's still uncle E
I feel like ER puts the most heart soul and effort into his videos than majority if not all the other artists. He is always coming up with new fun creative ideas rather than the repetitive click bait and same old triggers that happen in almost every other asmr channel
I'm in a weird position, I can remember getting ASMR as a little kid as my mom told bedtime stories to me, but then one day it mostly stopped. I've only gotten ASMR from a video maybe once. I feel like I'm about to get it a lot, but it ends up being kind of like not being able to sneeze.
It's the same for me, it's frustrating
Yeah. I've only gotten tingles from a Video a hand full of times unless it's a real life situation my ASMR doesn't trigger. The second a person whispers to me in person or at my eye doctors it goes nuts. My eye doctor for the past 10 years and a few dentists I had a as a kid both triggered my ASMR. So as a kid I was always excited to go to the dentist or eye doctors.
its like ASMR blue balls
I have days like that, and holy shit 'feels like I'm about to sneeze' is the most accurate thing 😥
@@samsonfgc3472i’m 5 years late to this but this is perfect 😂😂

During the hand motion “lever pulling,” each time you pulled, I swear my eyes just kept shutting more and more.

Hi Paul - I thought I had lost my ASMR until I listened to this. My tingles returned! Some really great trigger sounds - thanks and greetings from the UK. by the way the rain stick was fab.
That inaudible whisper was AWESOME! your quiet whisper videos are my favorite of all time, I keep going back to them time and time again. Do you plan on doing another Art of Quiet video? I highly recommend doing more of those inaudible whispers... :-)
eddie bobadilla Inaudible whispers are my favorite trigger. That and wood tapping. I highly recommend his Relaxing R’leyhian & Cthulhu Blocks with Deep One Dave!
I love inaudible whispers too, that and bottle cap stuff, gentle sounds are some of the best :)
Thank you for the recommendation!
Dylan Fuller I forgot about lid sounds! Another favorite!!!
eddie bobadilla You are welcome!
All of them are quite soothing. However, if I were to select a main three that really trigger me...
1. Whispers, both clear and unintelligible, in any language
2. Soft tapping on objects like lampshades, produce, take your pick
3. Fabric sounds
I've experienced ASMR since I was small. I just dismissed it as muscle twitches or just a physiological response to heavy bass (first manifestation). Now that I know what was/is happening, I don't feel so nuts.
Thanks, E.R.! Keep up the grand work!
P.S. I love that fucking pillow
Thank you so much for the liquid pouring test, It’s a weird one, but it is definitely my strongest ASMR trigger. I appreciate your inclusion of it greatly. 😊
thanks doctor strange for helping me fall asleep
Preston Garvey doctor strange asmr roleplay is needed now holy shit
Stop marking stuff on my map
Whomst'd've Am I? Sorry general. But I’ve gotten a word of a settlement attacked but feral ghouls, I’ll mark it on your map
But I need aluminum for power armour
I need to go scaving
the inaudible part is the only thing that can give me slight tingles right now, especially the change from whispering to inaudible whispering
I've been using ASMR for my sleep issues, and thank goodness I've now just discovered you, E.R.! I couldn't sleep last night, and I came across the master lock combination videos, and those were some fine tingles! Thank you so much for your vids!
the "picking the stress off with your hands" was an amazing and surprising trigger for me. I always thought hand motions wouldn't trigger me but I think the combination with the whispering and sounds of your shirt was super relaxing
Great first experience, Now I don't have to watch strictly Bob Ross
I've been watching your videos for a couple of months now and one thing really stands out to me from the rest of the ASMR crowd. It's your dedication to production values. From making sure the volume on your recording is balanced, to the way you make sure you capture the sound fully and clearly, the speed of your tapping, background, and use of common objects to make pleasing sounds.
So, thanks you ER, I am always impressed with how great the sound is you get from the props you use, and the overall tempo is a treat.
Oh, and your ideas are fantastic.
Thanks for the great production quality and keep making videos.
You should pour mercury for asmr, safely of course.
What about gallium?
Your shits too good man, even though I've been around the ASMR community here and there, I love coming back here even if the context of my being makes no sense
Zoxz Gerasimov I appreciate you

I’ve been asking myself this ever since I found him. Which is when heatherfeather disappeared for the first time. How doesn’t he have a million subs. Like. He is ONE OF THE BEST. Most reliable. Can always count on an upload. Great and amazing content creator. Probably the most inventive. Just. Amazing. I love you dude. Idk why but I just do. You deserve a million subs more than anyone.

The candle in the beginning was surprisingly effective. And him talking during it was kind of like someone telling you a story by a fire. Would really like to see something like that more fleshed out. Like a camp stories RP, or maybe even during some of his post apocalyptic RPs.
I remember back before ASMR was even called ASMR, and a video like this would've been so appreciated in the wild west days of the genre.
I was wondering which role he was gonna play. Then I noticed he played himself.
Don't be fooled so easily. There is no such thing as "himself", every video is a character, he just wants you to think that he isn't putting on a role for this one when he actually is.
*Seinfeld theme plays*
Thomas Graham I think you might have missed the pun.
Nah I get it, he played himself. Just offering another interpretation .
Watched this video 3 times now ... never get past the handmovements before I fall asleep, incredible work as always
The suit, speaking on this exact level of tone, inaudible whispers, plucking out stress, but really just more so of you talking, is already a unique and best trigger for me. So please keep it up and be the greatest ASMRtist of all time!
First time I experienced asmr was probably 30 years ago. It was while watching the original Dr. Dolittle. Starring Rex Harrison. I'd say a good amount of the younger generation probably associates Eddie Murphy with Dr. Dolittle.
Anyways, I first experienced asmr while watching the 1967 version. For anyone who's seen it they may know the scene I'm speaking of. In this scene Dr. Dolittle is giving a horse an eye exam. He has a pointer and an oversized eye chart. He points to the letters and the horse softly neighs and snorts. Afterwards he puts a pair of glasses on the horse and repeats the process. The combination of the tapping and the audio buzz from the camera would send tingles all over me.
I suspect I wore that section of the vcr tape out rewinding it over and over again.
kyle bohannon Cool story, thanks for sharing!
White Box ASMR anytime! I can safely say that in any other community people would think I was weird but it's completely normal within the asmr community lol
okay but the candle trigger is amazing. I love it. please do more
“It’s nice to meet you too sir” (shakes hand) “How is it that you’re standing three feet in front of me , but I hear you, as if your mouth is inside my ear... and somehow you’re managing to do this one ear at a time, and that’s what’s really freaking me out.”
I really, really, really love your button pushing, plucking, switching, lever pulling, and knob turning. Could you please, please, please, please make a long video of that?? I’d cry.
the quality of this camera is insane
You really know that you've truly captured ASMR when you can drink a whole pot of coffee, stumble on this video and be ready to go to sleep.
Did you know that Uncle E's first "Try This!" style video has 7.3 million views and that he is the objectively best ASMRtist?
Oh wow.
I never thought calming hand movements would trigger my ASMR so intensely, holy crap.
This video has every single one of my favorite triggers, unintelligible whispering, following the light, etc. Thank you for what you do!
man this shit is great when ur high lmaoooo

I've watched ASMR for years to help me sleep, but I got tingles for the very first time when watching this video tonight. I hope I get to experience it again!
The very first time I heard of ASMR was from Good Mythical Morning a long time ago. (How to Give Yourself Chills. From 3 years ago.) They played a clip of the first Manly ASMR and I immediately sought out the video. After watching Iggy Manley for the first time I subscribed that night and ever since then it's been a routine for approximately 3 years.
Rift Level: Journeyman
Responding to your question, I dig your tapping and hand movements videos. I have found through personal attention and hair petting/brushing videos I fall asleep the fastest.
Thank you!! Love the inaudible whispering.
I really really like the candle sound, can you please make like a 5 minute video of just that noise??? It would put me to sleep so fast!!!
I remember the first time I ever watched/listened to an ASMR video. First experience was great, had some tingles and some sort of out of body experience almost not sure how to explain it really. Just super relaxed. Don’t get tingles at all now unfortunately but it’s still a part of my daily routine of going to sleep and something I look forward to.
Joe Baird sounds like immunity to me take a week off then when you watch again they should come back what i do anyway
Congrats on the 500k you absolute legend! Your Sunday Arrival collab with Phoenician was my first exposure to ASMR back in the day and I've been following you two ever since.

My favorite triggers consist of the hand movements you do, inaudible whispers, unintentional mouth sounds, your cracking the lock videos, finger tracing, the invisble string, random no theme asmr, and creative asmr sounds. You, massageasmr and Frivy have the best hand movements out of all the ASMRtists.
None of that handshaking business please don’t wanna catch COVID-19 ya know
I’ve been part of the ASMR community for about 2 years now, and honestly, I don’t even think I experience it 😂 I love the calm nature of the videos, and certain voices, but I have only very rarely experienced what I could call “tingles”. Idk exactly what does it for me, other than some of the really deep ear stuff, but I still use the videos to help me fall asleep, and I love everything Rift does, especially the character performances. Stay awesome my man.
Heading to the ER for an emergency session.
Nyarako-chan enjoy your stay!
For real why would you say that

Jim TM?
andrew mcahon im sorry, confused as hell
Hand motions always get me the best. I dont even have to look (I typically just listen while trying to go to sleep), I can feel it happening around me
it really seems like a lot of new asmr fans have appeared
like
the amount of subscribers has risen like crazy in the community
what do you guys think caused that?
zombie tears random channels having videos explode or going viral, making more ppl wonder what asmr is and then discovering how relaxing it is
Memes making fun of asmr probably make people wonder what it is, then they look it up and some subscribe, others don't. That's what I imagine anyway
zombie tears Popular channels that have nothing to do with Asmr keep making asmr related videos, also it's been all over social media.
I hear it's the result of some sort of Rift.
Probably random youtube recommendations
This volume of voice is my favourite, and the vocalized triggers seem to work the best for me. Ironic then that as you ask, you proceed to the most effective trigger for me yet with the indistinguishable words... I've been having severe anxiety today and lack of sleep, but this is getting me through. I keep in mind what you said in an older video about not relying on ASMR, and being able to handle life on our own, and to a large degree that's been possible just from having spent time quieting my mind with your help and then carrying that on in day-to-day.... thanks Paul, you've changed my life and I'll always be thankful for that

The blowing/flickering candle is absolutely brilliant. Definitely more of that, please!

ER: Emergency Relaxation
You know, this video still gets me even now. Thanks for your hard work again.
Old viewer + video for newbies = middle aged viewer
No no... A veteran
You need to make a whole video based around the inaudible breathy type whispering. That section was too good to not be used for a video
I have been here since the pope videos and I still haven't felt ASMR. These videos are mainly a sleep aid for me. As an insomniac this channel has been a great help.
PS just wondering is there some secret to feeling asmr, like an age thing, as I'm 17 and haven't felt anything.
for me i never noticed the 'tingles' until i hit about 20 - although i do recall moments growing up, like when a certain teacher would speaker i actually would feel fuzzy and then reallly want to sleep. but that was 6th grade lol. oh and smoking some weed (preferably a strain with higher CBD) will help unleash the tingles and set you up for some great sleep. best of luck
One tingle I don’t recall you doing for a long time is the slow motion burning of a match stick. I loved that. I also wonder what other sounds would be good in slow-mo.

I love love looove one specific kind of crinkle, and that’s paper that’s been water-damaged and dried out. Especially thicker paper like brown shipping paper or glossy magazine pages, but just printer or ruled paper is great, too. I’m also a big fan of the sound that a bag of pebbles/beads/etc makes when someone gives it a squeeze. And muffled rainstick. And who isn’t a fan of getting psychological validation whispered to them, really? There are so many good triggers. Thank you for the tingles!
