I love the way Codies does racing lines, where speed is indicated by marker height - once you get in down, its so easy to "drive the track", instead of "driving the car" Only just loses out to my favourite driver aid ever - the apex markers in GT7 - you don't even need braking zones or racing line, entry and exit point markers hit all the same bases
Playing this on my Xbox Series X atm since it came out on Game Pass. Looks beautiful at 120 Hz and it's surprisingly sharp. I didn't even realize it wasn't running at native 4K. When you move around your camera (left or right), the 120 Hz refresh just makes it very smooth and not headache inducing. I think it looks better than Gran Turismo 7, which I also play on the same TV.
I love me some fun arcade racing and am also glad to hear the 120hz mode holds up in races. I'm planning on getting an LG C1 soon and will likely pick up GRID Legends on sale. I would also LOVE to see NFS Heat get a 60fps update (and a toggle to disable film grain). The Crew 2 is getting 60fps this summer. EA needs to get on it!
with some of the destruction derby like races where cars get caught up together and grinding and crashing a lot, be ready for a lot more frame rate loss than you think and is talked about here. My experience of the likes was happening with the Series X in 4K mode.
I'm not into racers but this even looks good to me. I like the balance between graphics and buttery smooth frame rates. A fine compromise for this sort of title.
I'd suggest just playing the 10 hr trial on EA play on Xbox though. 10 hours was plenty of time for me to enjoy it for free or it's plenty of time to see if it's something worth picking up in a sale seeing they have so many of those a year now :)
Hey there. Grid Legends, got feel of speed and dynamic. It's brighter. Locations look more fun and not sad and boring like this in GT7. On Grid Legends locations look more beautiful and graphics is more cooler. Full of details, full of colors. Driving mechanics is fun. You can take it full arcade way of gameplay or more sim racing when you turn of driving helpers. It's cross platforms. It's have a story mode, that reminds me of Capitan Tsubasa :) Feel real but have great emotions in it. Every race is fun. AI drivers feel so real that I have a feeling that they are a real players. This is the very best racing game ever created, period. It's fun, and games need to be fun :)
i didn't even try this game before because the last grid i played (autosport) didn't amuse me. but i was wrong. just tried it now on my series x and it is actually a super chill arcade racer that somehow feels cutting edge and nostalgic at the same time. felt like what a racing game for a dreamcast 4 would be like. i just wanted to see it, but i ended up playing for an hour. it's extremely polished, plays well (ngl the 120fps goes a long way to help that feel) and is just good old fun. i missed this kind of game.
I’m truly not sure what to think of this game. I love the GRID series… i’ve actually played this game via the trail for many hours and love it, but can’t help think that this is simply a full price rehash of the prior game. With upgrades really only to trackside objects and maybe reflections. So I can’t support paying $60 for a very simple upgrade. I will probably pick it up when it’s $15, but even then I have an issue. Because it is essentially supporting paying full price for an upgrade that should’ve been free for the last game. No new tracks and even one less track exacerbates this very issue. They couldn’t even make one, five or 10 new tracks? Which screams that it was rushed to simply appease investors to have something to release to make the company some extra income. Again, I love the series. But, probably won’t buy into it again until we see more tracks, more cars and a true next GEN update to the engine. Which, they should be easily able to do real time raytracing via global illumination and shadows at 60fps on a closed course racer. I’d also like to see day/night cycles and varying weather throughout each race. Which other racers are doing. This is truly the closest thing we have to Project Gotham Racing. One of my favorite racers of all time. I just hope the developer takes a year off to update the engine and add more additional content… in tracks, cars and features.
Lmao EA is not losing sleep over you not paying $60. The whole video shows its been a massive improvement from Grid 2019. And at 5:31, it shows there are new tracks. You typed an essay, because you don't like a game. 😭 Shower and touch some grass.
I have a similar feeling. I have also played the "demo". As an old fan of the Grid/Toca games, Legends simply offers me too little new to justify the price. But I honestly don't understand why Grid 2019 is praised so much in this video. That was the weakest part of the series for me.
@@JamieRobert_ i typically avoid being needlessly hostile towards new members of a team but this guy has 0 charisma or attention to detail, I've yet to see anything he's done that even I couldn't do myself
Sony should consider allowing players to save settings for performance and refresh rate settings on a per-game basis. While I agree that it'd be ideal for Codemasters to just put these settings in the game and simply have them work, I feel as though these system-level settings are mentioned often enough that there must be some issue with devs outright bypassing the system-level settings.
Has anyone else noticed the front wheels don't turn in any of the replays in any of these racing games? There's plenty of turns yet we always see the wheels facing straight forward, why is that?
Thanks for this, I didn't realize I was playing in 120 FPS mode on my Series X until I watched this video, I'll have to switch my system settings and see how much difference I notice in the graphics playing at 60 FPS. I've played through quite a bit of the game in the 120 FPS mode and enjoyed it, found the handling via my Fanatec CWB v2.5 very good, so I'll probably keep playing in that mode, but nice to know about the option.
This looks amazing. I don't want to pay the full price just to get it though. I'll happily get it on sale a couple months from now. I want to play grid 2 again and Legends outdoes it at every angle.
This video already has more comments than the peak online of this game on Steam. I fear this might be the last game in GRID franchise, considering it's now under EA and EA already has their own arcade racing franchise.
I would have liked mention of Dualsense support and loading times comparisons. About the game, i wish it still had split screen support like Grid 2 and Autosport, and Dirt 5.

Forza Horizon 5 in the 60fps mode runs at a dynamic 4k using high and ultra settings. I rarely drops below that resolution. Yet this game drops to a lower re4solution on the Xbox Series X and has worse frame rate?
Yes but FH5 has really bad pop in during performance mode. It is a fantastic game but I really really really hope they address lod management in performance mode at some point. It detracts from an otherwise wonderful game.
FH5 has a custom system in place, it drops visual settings before ever dropping resolution on performance mode, so it effectively holds native 4K most of the time. Honestly tho, I can tell the drop in visual settings coming from quality mode, specially LOD management.
@@andyward8430 yeah the pop in is too much and I’m not sold I’m giving too much to the gamer in terms of cars right away. It just kills the progression and gets boring fast. Also it is 1600p-2160p in performance mode on the series x.

There I was thinking that DF had completely forgotten about this excellent game like they did Psychonauts 2 and then the tech analysis video pops up! Very good, thorough analysis as always. I got the game for Xbox Series X as I had a feeling it might have some tearing so opted for the console with VRR (which the PS5 *still* lacks after 15 months on sale!). I am very happy with the game, it is a lot of fun even if it does feel very similar to GRID (2019). One complaint, other than the stupid decision to grey out the 120 Hz toggle, is that shadow draw in, which seems to be limited to mid-distance, is rather obvious and can be very distracting on trees and buildings at times as on some tracks they can suddenly pop in as if the game has realised it has forgotten to render them. Seems like a bug but it has never been fixed.
It's looking highly likely PS5 will only be able to do VRR at 1440p 60 as well due to issues internally with the console design and choice of hardware components. There is issues with VRR on Sony tv's as well so the best option there for gaming is still LG really.

I love the way Codies does racing lines, where speed is indicated by marker height - once you get in down, its so easy to "drive the track", instead of "driving the car"
Only just loses out to my favourite driver aid ever - the apex markers in GT7 - you don't even need braking zones or racing line, entry and exit point markers hit all the same bases

GT7 should be ashamed.
So happy I got this game! Looks amazing on PS5 with my LG OLED!
About the "new" Legends tracks, I'm pretty sure I've played Chicago, London and Dubai in previous Grid games.
I'd love it if all the fanboys commenting how their platform is better would just shut up and play Grid Legends. It's a great game.
Great on Series S
with some of the destruction derby like races where cars get caught up together and grinding and crashing a lot, be ready for a lot more frame rate loss than you think and is talked about here.
Game's looking pretty good. I have my plate kinda full at the moment but I'll probably give it a spin at some point in the future.
Imagine an utopia where every game is released like this. holy f...
The comments are really fun to read again. Mostly just fanboys arguing about which console the game looks or runs better on.
Grow up for once...
Well the video is titled PS5 vs Xbox... I know what you are saying tho...
Well, after the latest deluxe edition update Series X has severe fps drops! I hope they fix it, otherwise another game with better fps on PS5
Finally a game releases in good condition with good performance!
That first GRID was so damn good. I'm enjoying this one but it's just not the same...maybe just nostalgia talking I dunno.
I have a soft spot in my heart for that first GRID. It still is the best one. I'm slowly warming up to 2019.
Oh my god, is that dynamic car damage? I thought they said Grand Tourism couldn't handle it. XD
0:58 Dirt legends?
I think you got franchises crossed.
I guess nobody bothered to double check his video lmao
Lol this new guy is a joke
Actually he says DIRG Legends, not 'Dirt'! You know, GRID backwards. It's a stylish anagram! We're so lucky.
😂
@@JamieRobert_ i typically avoid being needlessly hostile towards new members of a team but this guy has 0 charisma or attention to detail, I've yet to see anything he's done that even I couldn't do myself
Beautifully narrated and edited. I wonder why Oliver still hasn't been greenlit to make an appearance in the Weekly Directs.
You can save the settings on PS5.
@@dripfoe_3307 On a per-game basis?
Has anyone else noticed the front wheels don't turn in any of the replays in any of these racing games? There's plenty of turns yet we always see the wheels facing straight forward, why is that?
Haha 0:55 You said DIRT Legends ^^ props for that
Thanks for this, I didn't realize I was playing in 120 FPS mode on my Series X until I watched this video, I'll have to switch my system settings and see how much difference I notice in the graphics playing at 60 FPS.
Just got it for 20 dollars on ps store
I don't know how I feel about this after playing a ton of GT7 and Forza Horizon. I used to love GRiD and DiRT but it just feels repetitive.
So, you don't get the frozen atomic bomb blast lighting at the exit of a tunnel? GOOD.
This video already has more comments than the peak online of this game on Steam. I fear this might be the last game in GRID franchise, considering it's now under EA and EA already has their own arcade racing franchise.
Glad I end up clicking on videos like this one. I'd never even heard of the game and didn't expect much, but wow! It's gorgeous!
I would have liked mention of Dualsense support and loading times comparisons. About the game, i wish it still had split screen support like Grid 2 and Autosport, and Dirt 5.
Digital Foundry is really good at analysis good job.

Every time I see that 365 GTB4, I just go purr. I haven't played a racing game since the PS2 days and this is really tempting.
With GT7 shenanigans and greed, I’ve been enjoying this instead. Great and fun game
I rather play this than GT7.
totally different games and given the content gt7 offers i disagree, they don't satisfy in the same way to choose one over the other
0:56 Did he say "DIRT Legends"? 😁
5:49 "bbBBBRRRrrroar has been changed as well" 😆
Grid one of the funnest racing franchises imo
I agree! It’s a shame how underrated the series is.
*most fun. Not everything is a superlative ya paperclip.
Forza Horizon 5 in the 60fps mode runs at a dynamic 4k using high and ultra settings. I rarely drops below that resolution. Yet this game drops to a lower re4solution on the Xbox Series X and has worse frame rate?
Bro, it's NATIVE 4K/30 and NATIVE 4K/60 in both modes on XSX. FH5 I mean.
@@gonzaloxd2 What does what you type have to do with what I typed? My point was Forza Horizon 5 runs better and looks better than this game, yet this game runs at a worse frame rate and lower resolution. So clearly the developers of this game are either lazy or just aren't as good at the developers of Forza Horizon 5
Maybe I’m blind, you’re free to tell me if I am…But, I’m honestly much more impressed with this games graphics than I am with GT7.
LOD breakup and pop in takes me out of the immersion in the PS5 version of Gran Turismo 7. It has gotten worse with the first patch post launch. And they dummed down those particle effects causing fps drops in the back of the pack rain races. I haven't played Grid since 1 and 2 and absolutely had a blast in those games with the simply fun physics at the time. May find myself picking this up later in the year.
"Dirt Legends" I think he got a bit confused.
Question for the Narrator. Have you really played Grid 2019?
Excellent looking? Realistic driving experience? What the hell?
Yeah got to agree that Legends has way better handling/racing experience than 2019 if you're using a Fanatec wheel.
Was Dirt 5 excellent? That's a really bold opening statement.
They're strictly talking visually I believe
Do not mistake with GT7: Grind Legend.
Yeah the handling on that Dirt Legends is great 🤣
Looks awesome, I am avoiding GT7 because of several reasons, maybe Grid Legends can satisfy my driving itch. Again great upload DF, one thing, you do use the word 'particularly' a lot. Maybe change that up with synonyms. Just constructive feedback ;)
Hoping all the nonsense with GT blows over, as it would've stopped me buying it, too - had I known - which is a shame because in spite of its weird layout; its a solid racer
gt7 is awesome i don't get the hate
@@melxb it's about the Corporate tentacles; not the product
@@unbearifiedbear1885 yeah but those micros aren't forced at all man, u earn and unlock cars no different if not better than the other gt mainline entries
@@unbearifiedbear1885 at least literally before they got introduced nobody had anything to say but praise and after they got added nothing changed yet people started talking crap, i guess if u like spending money it sucks it's not cheap, but yeah not for those that plays the regular way
They really did a number on me with the previous Grid, so it's safe to say I won't be getting the deluxe edition of this game at launch.. No matter how good it is, I'll wait for a deep deep sale.
Just like me. I also got Grid 2019 full of anticipation at the time, because by then I had taken the series very much to my heart. Unfortunately, that was one big disappointment. But I recently played the "demo" via the Xbox Game Pass and was pleasantly surprised that the handling has improved. I will still wait for a discount, because it doesn't offer enough new features for the normal price...
I despise when they don't put toggles like 120 fps in the game menus and make you change system settings. AWFUL. Other than that, I'm into this game.
racecar spelled backwards is racecar, spend your money on things that make sense.
Awesum review man
There I was thinking that DF had completely forgotten about this excellent game like they did Psychonauts 2 and then the tech analysis video pops up!
They did a video on Psychonauts 2 lol
It's looking highly likely PS5 will only be able to do VRR at 1440p 60 as well due to issues internally with the console design and choice of hardware components. There is issues with VRR on Sony tv's as well so the best option there for gaming is still LG really.
@@DEVILTAZ35 I don't think they did a video of Psychonauts 2. I'm still waiting for that analysis BTW, such a great game!
You said dirt legends at 0:59
0:58 in and you called it Dirt Legends.
Reminds me a lot of NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered, but on a track, and that's not a bad thing
PlayStation players will like this an alternative to gt7
Guys I just want to see Ghostwire and its multitude of visual settings. I would aboutsolutely love to see PC like for like settings as well lol.
"Dirt Legends" not a bad name for the Next Dirt ☺️
PlayStation need VRR
nope bottleneck x need vrr cos bottleneck x cant keep locked fps in any game shown this year or last year
if you mean ps5 for screen tearing in this game and only in replay mode
then its no worry cos we wont be playing this trash anyway we got gt 7 way better game
supposed to come this spring but we still gotta have vrr TV's man, it's not a solution for everyone
@@kimpossible4450 no clown we rather want game devs to fix there performance issue.

@@rinkumultani6515 😂🤡
Technically xbox had VRR since 2017 Which was a feature in the Xbox oneX And xbox one s
On the series s in the cockpit view when you smash into other cars, which happens at the beginning of most races in this game, the FPS takes a MASSIVE hit
So you cannot disable 120 Hz mode, maybe we'll have to disable that from TV settings in order to avoid low quality modes.
Grid Legends will get higher reviews than GT7
Just a note, you called the game ‘Dirt Legends” at the beginning lol
I played every racing game with wheel g29 logitech. Grid Legends really feels good with the wheel out of all the games its the funnest to play. Its similar to DIRT5 in how it feels with wheel but way more satisfying. Grid 2019 with wheel just felt off but this one feels day and night. Recommend to anyone with wants a fun racer and if Gran Turismo 7 just feels slow sometimes this gives you a way more fast paced experience.
Especially the Nintendo switch definitely benefits from more software optimization opitions to squeeze more out of the over all performance and visual quality.
0:57 I WISH They made a game called DIRT LEGENDS!!!!
Glad this game got a good wrap from you guys… It’s such an underrated game because of its bad release timing ( same time as GT7) .. This game deserves way more love than it’s getting … I would go as far to say it even looks better than GT7 in most parts of the game, like night racing & racing in the rain especially … If you are on the fence about getting this, do yourself a favour & get it.. It feels pretty good on a wheel too, even though it’s a bit more arcady than GT7…
GT7 is pure horseshit compared to this game and I'm a diehard gt fan.
