- Here's why your PS5 disc drive is loud or not working properly.. If your PlayStation 5 is making noise from the disc drive it could need a replacement soon due to failure with a expensive repair cost! It's common for your PS5 to make vibrating noise from disc or sound when accepting & reading the discs, but if you notice excessive or constant non-stop vibration noise coming from the disc or drive, it could be bad news.. However If your PS5 disc drive does sound louder than it should, you can try these easy tips first before spending the repair cost or sending to Sony for a warranty fix. These are all the quick & easy fixes I found for the PS5 disc drive that everyone can try first! The mouse pad trick is a popular fix due to vibration noise from disc, you can also try the PS5 manual eject which has also helped based on PlayStation Reddit posts I've seen. Hopefully this helps & you find these tips useful!

this man wastes no time, goes straight to the point. You're a good man, John.
Just got a bunch of 4K blu-rays and instantly heard the loud noice.
Came here first, did what you instructed and it worked! Man, I love you.
All your videos are straight to the point and in perfect quality.
The funny thing is I just got this problem like 30 min ago and you just uploaded the solution

Same, pre-ordered & using since Day 1 with no issues !
So its normal that the disc drive sounds loud ?
@@i3i3t42me too worried about it
I dont have an disc edition but I m so happy with these tutorials! You help a lot of people
actually had a similar issue with mine, removed the disc using the manual eject as seen here, and at first it didn't seem like it did anything. couple days later it was silent and working great
I get ALL my Fav games as Digital & NEVER leave a disk in this drive when not required as it will just spin & get checked on for no reason adding wear & tear on the drive. JG, Thx for the great Videos ! Cheers !
Turning the screw on the disc drive definitely works, but you have to redo it every few months or the noise starts again.
On all past Play Stations if you used the upright stand it wears out the laser eye spring. Keeping the console laying flat prolongs the life and keeps the laser eye spring from wearing out. Keeping it upright in the stand you have the weight of the laser eye working against gravity which will eventually cause the laser eye to pull away and flop around. Losing spring tension.
Great video John! Funny you mention the desk mat cause I just got one, it's pretty nice & a decent price 👌🏻

I’ve been very happy with PlayStation systems over the many years having no issues but can’t say the same about the X360!!!
My series x runs smooth as butter and whisper quiet, I can't say the same for my ps5.
Love how you get straight to the point. Id rather play strictly digital games then you dont have to worry about the disc laser dying as well as cleaning and taking the console apart i never took my ps4 apart once had it 10 years works fine. But its good to clean the fans though so it doesent overheat. Also i think the software update on my ps4 got corrupted and i cant access the ps4 menu it asks for an update file and couldnt get it to work
That's why I'm waiting on the ps5 slim or pro because they may fix the problem I'm keeping the ps4 pro...
This is strange. It's like they cheaped out on the disk drive to make it an issue so people might slowly adopt digital consoles. I don't remember the disk drive having noise issues often on old consoles.
Watching this since I was checking reviews for a PS5 at one of my local retailers, tons of negative reviews about the disc drive mainly
My fix was more or less the same. Had to dust the console out so I made sure the plates were nice and snug when snapped back in and then sat the stand portion on a fairly thick cloth. Went from an audible buzzing sound when playing 4K movies to a whispering quiet humming.
Always appreciate the helpful videos
this seems more like good news than bad news
oh come on not john bots
Should be included in the Life Long Warranty that u get a Full Replacement if Disc Drive Faulty!
I had this problem at first. Then I realized all I had to do, was put the disk in a certain way, very carefully and I no longer had this problem!
Are you able to describe in words what that "certain way" is?
Holy shit I tried everything until I read this certain way thing. I held onto the disk and fed it to the machine and let it pull it from my hand instead of just inserting and let go and it worked
Thanks
Great tips, good job!👍
I got mine in July of 2021 and I’m February or January my disc drive just randomly started to make noise and put discs in really slow
My PS5 disc drive only gets loud when there is one game (GTA 5) in the drive, when other games are in the drive I usually don't hear anything. It's weird bc I bought the game in a PS5 bundle deal.
It’s funny how I’ve never had a problem with none of my PlayStations until this one, and EVERYONE I know has issues with their systems. I don’t think it’s a coincidence….
Had since launch and have never put a disc in, hell it might not even work.😂
2:08 HUH?
Okay but the problem in my case is that whenever i put spider-man miles morales disc it starts making noise but doesen't makke noise with any other disc. And i borrowed it from one of my friends.
Laying it horizontal also reduces noise. But honestly no problems from my unit.
My discs won’t play full stop it’s getting me so pissed
Try to install death stranding using my ps4 disc, suddenly it made jet noises. Never had any problem with disc before the firmware 7.00 upgrade 😂
Thnx for the video bro!! Ever since I bought the new covers for my ps5; I have a problem ejecting my disk. I always gotta remove the bottom cover to take the disk out. This never happened before until I recently had new covers .
I've had this problem with launch day, it didn't happen with the one physical ps5 game I own but all PS4 games sound horrible, I noticed putting a bit of pressure on top of the console mitigated it so I'll try this. Thanks man! Glad it's not a unique issue
Some discs make more noise and others are almost silent, my Bloodborne disc is terrible. I think it’s due to some discs not being entirely flat or balanced.
What’s the orientation of your console , try horizontal if it’s vertical that should greatly help
@@CasualPlyr I've actually noticed the complete opposite, my ps5 had been horizontal from day one until I moved house on monday and decided to stand it up vertically, it doesn't sound anywhere near as bad now as it did before!
@@KawaiiiFive-O I have the same problem. I have the lunch day version too and i noticed if I give a little pressure to the side where the disc drive is when the problem occurs, it will change the symptoms. so sometimes it’s going silent or it helps to put the disc out. i will definitely try the solutions in the shown video
Launch* :D
Yes I used the mouse mat technique and it works a treat I notice my ps5 sound like I was always playing ace combat 7 jets sound after placing a mat, and it not done it ever snice and it been 2 months now happy days.
Hi John. Would you please address the issue with the PS5 and the LAN cable connected/disconnected issue? My LAN cable was connected for over a year with no issues, and now it just constantly connects and disconnects. I've searched online and it's all just random solutions that may or may not work. I figured you would be the most reliable person to ask. Thank you!
That's odd. Do you have other LAN cables you can try? If other cables have the same problem then it's safe to say it's probably something with the console.
Do you mean hdmi cable?
@@ImLikeYouIHaveNoName90 Yes, I've tried other LAN cables to no avail.
@@joemills4360 No, it's not an HDMI issue. It's a LAN cable error that connects and disconnects from internet.
@@AL-12345 Ok. I guess one last thing you could try is switching the LAN cable to different ethernet ports on your router if you haven't tried that already, just to be sure. But I did see someone else in this comment section who mentioned LAN cable issues so I assume it's a known problem for some people. Hopefully John makes a video on this.
Ha! Great video! Always informative! My gripe is that I have the PS4 disc version of Cyberpunk (actually really liking it atm) and downloaded the PS5 version. Obviously it still needs the disc in to play, fair enough, but it keeps a PS4 game icon on the bar and states install paused (or something similar). Anyway to stop it trying to install the PS4 version every time I put the disc in?
My ps5 does get loud but I did realize it was vibration. I put my hand lightly on the top plate and the noise was pretty much gone but did return after letting go but does stop after a few minutes. The system vibrates so much the plates are causing noise 🤣
Yea same here for me. It can rattle away for anything between 5-20 seconds.
Did you do a How to connect to Dualsense Controller?please show me the link.
Lay console flat press eject button while putting bank card or id inside n it’ll eject
Anybody else have problems getting the ps5 to eject the disc? When trying to eject the disc, my ps5 will make some crazy noise and I end up having to power it off. Putting the ps5 on its side seems to help some.
Thank you John! That fixed it!
My situation is when you insert the disc and start loading there will be a sound after that start playing getting into a game the sound disappear.
So I don't use disc drive. Only purchase DL via PS Store.
I don't see how tapping the top of a ps4 makes it read the disk either but it does.
I have a disc drive ps5..barely use it though. Glad this hasn't happened to me so far..
Have my ps5 taken apart in front of me right now
What is 'excessive noise' simply put simply asked. Does Sony issue a Db level on the disk drive?
Very Informative video as always 👍
I've got the second edition ps5 that come out and luckily I've had no problems with anything yet . Touch wood
My ps5 is launch model and I am having that problem where when I insert the disc and starts spinning fast it makes a rattling noise very loud, it like it’s eating the disc, I have alredy done everything to trying stop the noise but nothing worked, sometimes the rattling will go away and sometimes comes back, ps5’s are the worse console they have ever made until now, at least at quality aspect. Anyone knows a possible fix ? Thank you
Props for the mouse pad solution
I've noticed quite a few times that the PS5 Is always a racket when you turn it on but that's not suddenly stopped happening it's seems quieter now
Brand new PS5 here, won't read or even acknowledge a disc has been inserted.. Had every PS version there is and never had an issue with a disc drive until now..
i got a ps5 a few days ago and was so pumped to play the upgraded version of a ps4 disc i had and then it got cracked inside the console :)))
I guess that u should only use the ps5 tower wise when disk is running
Never had any issues with my PS5’s disc drive, and I had it since launch day. Quiet as a mice.
ironic that u showed GT7, MY CD IS CRACKED DOWN THE MIDDLE. IT PLAYED YESTERDAY, BUT TODAY I THINK IT GOT WORSE. so I just wanna make sure that this is the reason it won't star-up. that is the reason, correct?
Thanks for this, John
So glad i found this video. I got my PS5 on launch day and recently, my disc drive completely stopped reading disc. It kept saying all my discs were unrecognizable, from PS4 to PS5 games. Not until last week before sending PS all my money to get it looked at, it magically starting working again. Ever since then, my PS5 sounds like a plane taking off reading my discs. Glad to see some different methods for fixing the issue.
Thank you so much for this tip.👍🏻😁👍🏻
SO FAR, haven't had this problem🤞🏻 BUT it's good to know ! 👍🏻
I recently changed my PS5 from vertical to horizontal after the claims made about the thermal paste, I just did it for peace of mind and I had since bought a bookcase that allowed me to sore in horizontally now. I bought a disc game not long ago and my PS5 makes a very loud buzzsaw like sound only when reading the disc for up to a minute (not timed it but from turning it on to during a PS4 game loading) and then it goes completely quiet.
I did a bit of research but the info I got was inconclusive. I tried manually ejecting the disc and I guess I could try the other solutions. I'm hoping it's not a fault or something that will get worse. If anyone can offer reassurance, it would be welcome. I don't mind the sound if it's just for a moment but I don't want to damage it either.
The claims were actually about the Liquid Metal, and they were false, like blatantly obvious false. Basically a couple news outlets twisted the words of some RUclipsrs and people read it and it kinda blew up, then some people tried to make claims as proof of it happening with pictures and stories, and those were debunked as someone tampering with the console manually, not a defect in manufacturing.
Now about the sound you hear when inserting the disc, that’s not faulty or broken, that’s normal. As stated in the video it’s making that noise because it’s reading the disc, once it stops it’s cause it read the disc. It’s only faulty if it DOESNT stop making the noise, that means something is wrong and causing it to continue attempting to read the disc, or it’s broken and just can’t stop running. Aka sounds like you’re completely in the clear. Actually I think vertical is technically better, I wanna say it has better airflow, though it’s such a small difference it realistically doesn’t matter.
That noise is normal. All of the ps5 with disc drive do it. Mine too since day one. With my ps4, it was the same thing. Very loud for a few seconds,(under 1 minute), than it gets quiter.
@@ATB20 I don't recall mine making the noise before that so that's what was disturbed me but good to know.
@@silentreaper5805 I'm aware of the outcome I didn't act out of panic, still I did say that by then I'd move my PS5 to a location where I could store in horizontally which I preferred anyway. Funny thing is that people say the PS5 is noisy when vertical which would be the opposite for me. Maybe I'll change it back and see if it's quieter.

I knew this would happen. I bought the disk version at launch but to this day I have never used it and I never will.
I only have one single disc, it's a badly scratched copy of Minecraft from before Bedrock Edition. It makes the drive sound loud at times, but I've tested the drive with a standard movie and it sounds fine.
What I do is keep the games out of the PS5 when not playing them. That helped a lot. I no longer have this issue
Sometimes when I eject a disc it comes right out but sometimes it takes several seconds
Have had my PS5 for a year and never once put a disc in it lol. I should have just got a digital version 🤦
Waiting for slim version.. cheaper one..
For the money that is spent for a PS5 it shouldn’t make a beep of noise.
I won't be having that problem as I won't be using discs. only downloaded content to system storage.
same, but take note that disk drives progressively get worse no matter if you use it or not, a truly cruel and outdated storage medium held up by pride and nostalgia
My goal is to replace my PS5 with a digital version hopefully by the end of the year so I can avoid the problems in general
@@naraydaniels7832, Jesus... Even more reason to love the digital copies. Good luck, bro.
I know this is an old video but I just I’m screwed and re screwed those screws on a ps5 I bought for some dude and it worked
I don't understand how and why everyone's PS5 is loud at the disk drive like am I just lucky or something because mine has never been loud in 2 year's so I guess I got the good one when it come's to the disk drive I guess 🤷♂️
Sometimes it will rattle with certain games like read dead, I noticed it happens a lot with it.
Only had the ps5 for 6 months and I went to load up ff16 which was still in the drive and now when it tries to load I can hear a loud clicking like it tried to eject the disc. Afterwards the screen says the disc cannot be read. It does this with all disc games. I'm not sending my ps5 in if this is a manufacturing issue. I'll just go 100 percent digital.
My PS5 seems to function just fine (no issues installing games or anything), but after a few hours of playing, it will stop the game and say the disc cannot be read. It seems to only happen when the disc drive goes idle and tries to spin back up. Does this happen to anyone else?
Mine is starting to do the same thing it'll stop after a couple of hours then quit the game and eject the disc on it's own
Gotta love that iFixIt driver kit!
My unit started started with this issue about 2 months back , it’s the launch model
Let me ask you this, because I don’t wanna deal with PS if I don’t have to. I got a PS5 that’s a little over a year old, and it doesn’t wanna read most games. I can once in. Blue moon get it to read an old ps4 game but it won’t read any brand new games. Please help!
Thank you this video helps me a lot❤
I might have to try this, my ps5 has a loud noise and heat raiding off of it and now it has the unreadable disk error and I tried to send it back to fix the disk drive however repairs would cost around $240.... so I didnt even bother sending it.
Never shows the noise
Hey, is rotating the screw to eject disc anti clockwise ( a few times) damages the disc drive?
I’m glad I went with the digital joint. The fan noise is enough for me. Can’t imagine the fan and the disc both making noise.
Thank you so much for posting this 🙏 problem now solved 😅 !!
I have a question for ya'll. Has anyone had issues with blu-rays?? Whenever I insert a blu-ray disk, it gets jammed and doesn't let me eject the disk. It gets stuck. But any video game on disk, I've had no issues. Just the blu-ray disks.
I don't really use disc anymore. Got my ps5 last March 2022. Only used the disc drive 1 time. Hint.. If u use the disc drive every day of course it's gonna get loud. This issue has been around since the ps3 days. If u want to avoid problems like ur disc drive getting loud or ur system sounding like a jet engine. Then try just try downloading ur games. It will save u time and a headache. Besides its 2023 I don't know any 1 who really buys disc anymore anyway. U don't need to adjust no disc drive or no bull crap like that or put a mouse pad under ur system. If u use the disc drive on a daily basis. Of course the disc drive is gonna become faulty. ITS 2023 STOP USING DISC....
So I have the problem where my ps5 is just making a sound every five minutes, I tried to place my disc in and then it will start up then spit the disc back out. This started two days ago and now I’m wondering if I should just buy a new disc external
one thing is that when i put a disk and take
it out it still make the sound when you take it out and i need a screw to fix the disk drive and when i pull on the screws on the tube in the disk drives goes back in place and then i can put a game in it
Well, I don't seem to have this problem right now, but if I do, I know what video to watch
I have loss of audio when playing a DVD, blu ray or 4k at random. System just goes silent. I give up on watching something and next power up audio is back.
My ps5 only makes a buzzing noise when i put a ps4 disc in but when i put a ps5 disc in no noise
Ps6 wont have a disk drive
Are you the same Glasscock from epiclloyd?
i use the games on the subscription when available which is half my physycal collection
Bruh...I noticed this last weeks when I was watching the 4K Dark night Trilogy...the shit was loud AF. had to keep re-adjusting the PS5...smh.
I returned 2 of them for disc drive issues verified by tech support back to Sony direct. The third time is the charm and works fine. One wouldn't accept discs and the other wouldn't read them.
HELP I have a Brand New ps5 and the drive Blu Ray disc can't read my Blu Ray/DVD but I succeed just once. Actually the first time and it never worked again ????
My ps5 is reading the dist but after 2 mins it shows unrecognised disc plz help me,
Sony is updating system software updates with a virus bug stopping some physical games from working intentionally forcing users to buy digital games..its a scam 😮
Mine hasn’t worked for over two years
Exactly why I got the Digital ps5. It's $100 cheaper and won't have disc drive problems. Ever.
Don't put it straight up this is a design flaw with the disc intake & holder
John, off topic but me and a few friends have recent noticed on our Home Screen an E or 8 which randomly appears now it’s not game specific and the fact it’s on all of our consoles must mean it’s not our monitors? Any idea?
