Make sure that its not just the top plate (in horizontal mode). I noticed my sound went away when pressing the top plate, and I was able to fix the issue by popping off the top plate and putting a rubber bumper (I would guess about 12mm) directly on top of the fan grate. No more noise!

Yeah dont do it, its too risky. Especially since this loud noise is normal for when you install from a disc. There is also some sound when you insert a disc and start up a game but it will go away after ~30 sec. Sometimes when playing a game for a long time you might hear the disc drive making some noise again but it will be gone soon. @@GearsAndTech mine has a buzz when loading up the game, then after loading the disc the buzz is still there only a little more quiet, and i notice what almost sounds like a frequency sound when opening/closing the game in the ui, even with Astro’s Playroom
It might be one of the plates vibrating, then. Try putting slight pressure on one of the edges while it‘s making that sound to see if that reduces it. Also check if your stand is attached properly. Is your console set up horizontally or vertically? For some, the noise is supposedly less prominent when horizontal, though I guess that‘s mostly for those with disc drives.
@@Shiva-xz9vd ya i noticed the buzz is from the plate which is ok, but the psu noise doesnt go away, it has different sounds when playing diff games...and its set up horizontal

i have had mine for about a year now and never bothered until installing RDR2 today. takes a while so i decided to watch netflix. But that buzz was overpowering so i decided to give this a try. Its so much better! thank you
I’ve bought 2, the first has the loud fan and the second has a defective fan so that’s sent for warranty. This second one also makes this noise from time to time.
I thought there was something wrong with my PS5, as from the beginning it was quiet then all the sudden this noise starts a few months into using it. Gonna try this as soon as I can!
Did anyone else not have a tab or sticker covering up that little screw? I just did this to mine and it didn’t have it at all. Also great tip! Mine went from making a loud jet engine type sound to barely any noise at all! Thank you!
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, I did this and it wouldn’t take a disc back in. You also cannot simply turn the screw anti clockwise to loosen the disk drive. I managed to get it to take a disc again by standing the ps5 upright with the cover off and doing a safe mode reset and playing around with the eject button. This instructional definitely works, but needs a warning of over tightening. Better to tighten a little bit n then have to do it again a little bit more till it’s good than doing to much straight away.
This worked for me. Funny, though, they've updated the site and removed the instructions you reference: They no longer have an option for disc noise and recommend talking to support now.
So glad I came across this video. Definitely helped bring that sound down a lot and was so easy to do. Dont know if its all models, but mine (gotten on release) had the black sticker have a slit across it where i could put the screwdriver into without having to take it off.
Mine started with this sound yesterday (was never having such a sound since launch( and first i was so scared that it maybe scraches my discs😂 but thanks to you i know how to fix it now (just ordered a tiny screw driver)
mine was loud but not this loud until today, after the update that i was told shoul had fixed some of the noise problems... this trick lowered the noise a lot, but it's still my little pretty jet engine
Happened to me with a PS5 Slim and worked for a week or so. Did it again and now it’s back normal. So disappointed with Sony and this generation man. They made the worst looking consolle, the worst engeneering and cheap product they could make. I’m actually starting to lean torward Xbox, with the pass etc. They just doesn’t deserve money anymore Thank you very much for the tutorial
Well I did what yall said and now the ps5 wont pull the disc in 😐 Edit: if your ps5 wont take the disc in after you have done this, turn the system off, disconnect everything and get back to where you can adjust the screw. Turn the screw all the way to the right until you hear the screw reseting, put the disc into the drive, and apply a little pressure, begin turning the screw counter clockwise. The disc should pull back into the ps5. Turn the screw until the disc is almost all the way into the ps5, leave just enough to pull the disc back out. Remove the disc. Put the ps5 back together. Push the eject button, then insert the disc. That should fix the issue of the ps5 not pulling the disc back in.
appreciate you coming back and adding what worked for you. That's good news that its not the end of the world. Hopefully it also works better for you now.
Strangely mine doesn't have the sticker. It almost looks like the sticker was removed because I see a ring where it was. I figured while I put my SSD in might as well try to do the disc drive thing as well. And it's alot quite now
Thanks mine doesn't sound like a powerjack anymore. The sticker is removed from later models which is nice. I got mine back in late 2021 from Sony themselves.
Worked a treat, was apprehensive about doing it as it means messing about with the disc drive. Thanks for your easy to follow tips. I did get a little concerned as it did take a few good turns of the screwdriver to release the disc that’s when panic set in but it eventually popped out, side note there was no sticker covering my screw and I’ve had mine from new, Sony cost cutting on cover stickers maybe 😂 I’ve subscribed to your channel. Perfect!!
@@GearsAndTech question for you, do you have to turn the screw until the disc is fully visible or just so you can get hold of it. I have the same sound even playing a digital game, so how will this help?
The sound is your game spinning up. It's loud normally. But if it sounds like it's eating your game then this will help
I think you have coil whine.
The final fantasy remake still runs loud but it doesn't sound like a garbage disposal anymore so thank you.
Fixed my ps5, thanks from Germany, nice video!
Literally perfect. Was worried when my PS5 was sounding louder than my PS4. This was so helpful and took minutes. Fixed 100%.
I did the fix in the video. It worked for a couple uses, but now it's back to being noisy again, maybe even a little worse than before.
Must be normal
thank you very much, the disc drive is now normal disc drive volume now.
Glad to help
Thank you, this totally worked. My ps5 sounded like a helicopter ready to take off but this completely fixed it. Oddly enough I didn't even have that sticker there even though I bought my console brand new.
Newer ones don't have the sticker. I have an older model and a newer one.
Thanks man, panicked a bit at first as the drive would take my disk only half way and then bend it a bit to the left but moved the screw counter and clock wise until it took the disk by pushing it,now it works like a charm,no buzzing noise just the regular one. A thing I'ved found out was that PS5 disvs made more noise, spinned faster and the buzzing was like... now nothing, just the woshh a normal drive does, please update the video incase this happens to somebody else, thanks
This fix works. My PS5 sounds like it did when I initially bought it. Much appreciated!🙏🏾
Glad I could help
Wow, just tried it and I cant believe it works. My PS5 was embarrassingly loud whenever there was a disc in the drive and it booted. Now it sounds normal. Offcourse you van hear the disc spinning but previously it sounded like an old fax machine being put in a blender. Thanks for the excellent video!
Glad it worked
i have had mine for about a year now and never bothered until installing RDR2 today. takes a while so i decided to watch netflix. But that buzz was overpowering so i decided to give this a try. Its so much better! thank you
Wow I wish I did this sooner!! Worked like a charm! It’s sooo quiet. Now I don’t have to worry about waking up my family in the morning haha
Mine sounded just like fire natsus, but now its far more reasonable thanks too following this tutorial, thank you
Did this and it broke my disc drive. I cannot insert a disc anymore. Very cool.
Do the same steps but backwards. It'll suck the disc back in and will work again
Haven’t even had mine a month and it started doing this thankfully I came across your video it helped a lot
Glad to hear
I’ve bought 2, the first has the loud fan and the second has a defective fan so that’s sent for warranty. This second one also makes this noise from time to time.
I thought there was something wrong with my PS5, as from the beginning it was quiet then all the sudden this noise starts a few months into using it. Gonna try this as soon as I can!
Thank you! no more loud ass chainsaw noises when I boot up my system with a game in it!
Had mine since uk launch and this became an issue. I’m always really hesitant to open consoles up. But this was easy and so far worked thank you.
Did anyone else not have a tab or sticker covering up that little screw? I just did this to mine and it didn’t have it at all. Also great tip! Mine went from making a loud jet engine type sound to barely any noise at all! Thank you!
Most newer systems don't have the sticker.
This worked for me , it's almost completely silent now !!!! Thankyou
Double check the country you're looking at.
It was only active on USA Sony site. If you defaulted to Canada it was never there
So glad I came across this video. Definitely helped bring that sound down a lot and was so easy to do. Dont know if its all models, but mine (gotten on release) had the black sticker have a slit across it where i could put the screwdriver into without having to take it off.
Oh shit so it’s the disk drive that’s making the noise I thought it was my fan, that’s why it doesn’t sound like a fan, thanks for this video.
traded my digital edition for a disk edition cuz the person was worried about the noise, this video was an awesome fix and took legit a minute 🤙
Great deal
Omg!! It actually worked!! Iv had that noise since the day of release and couldn't find a fix... Untill now!! Thank you 🙌
I’ve had mine since launch and it’s never done that before and it’s just now starting to do that
Man this really helped fr my disc drive was mainly loud when I launched the game so I did this and it worked like a charm so thank you!!
Glad it helped
This fixed my issue. Thank you, I thought my PS5 was starting to fail.
Wow it really worked. I split my sticker in half during the process but now it's not loud anymore. Thank you 👊
Do I still need the sticker
No, you can toss the sticker. The new ones don't even have a sticker
This worked great for me! Did it today and it is back to normal. Great video
Thanks a million... it still is a bit loud...but as you said that is to expected... but much improved
Mine started with this sound yesterday (was never having such a sound since launch( and first i was so scared that it maybe scraches my discs😂 but thanks to you i know how to fix it now (just ordered a tiny screw driver)
mine was loud but not this loud until today, after the update that i was told shoul had fixed some of the noise problems... this trick lowered the noise a lot, but it's still my little pretty jet engine
can you link the screw driver? I need to buy one too as my ps5 is making the same noise and Id like to fix it.
@@jeezyboy3602 i got the IFIXIT Pro Tech Toolkit with it you have alot of other screw heads aswell (i need it also for other consoles i have)
If you'll be doing any work on different game systems this is the one I would recomend

Thanks helped so much I was worried about the case breaking but I pulled and pushed and it eventually came right off
Great video! Went from making a lot of noise to complete silence
Top man was worried about doing this. Ps5 nice and quiet again 😊
Thanks for the visit
Mine went from sounding like a jet turbine shredding the disk to complete silence. I should have done this when I first noticed it a year ago.
Thank you! My Drive is quiet again.🙏
They just doesn’t deserve money anymore
Thank you very much for the tutorial
Glad I could help
Thank you so much. I will try this today. Mine is incredibly loud.
What other tips do you have?! This 100% worked for me!
Lots of great info on this channel.
We just hit our 500th upload this week. So there is plenty of content to look through.
Many thanks! Had exactly the same issue and this fix has worked a dream.
Well I did what yall said and now the ps5 wont pull the disc in 😐
Edit: if your ps5 wont take the disc in after you have done this, turn the system off, disconnect everything and get back to where you can adjust the screw.
Sounds like you went too much
This appears to have fixed mine 😁 thank you!
Glad it worked
wow..that makes a ton of difference..its so quiet now
Strangely mine doesn't have the sticker.
That scared me so much, and everytime it happened my game would freeze
Worked brilliantly
This FIXED MY PROBLEM. THANK YOU SO MUCH. i feel like sony shouldnt hav let problmens like this occur at al
Thanks alot man! It made the noise from the disk drive 50% lower in volume! Thanks alot for the clear instructions!
Perfect!!
Yes, many people have reported not having the sticker.
Every penny counts
@@GearsAndTech question for you, do you have to turn the screw until the disc is fully visible or just so you can get hold of it. My drive is still making a bit of noise but not like it was and I’ve seen other video clips actually turning the screw until the disc is fully visible. I just didn’t know if that would help a bit more with the noise but I didn’t want to risk turning the screw too much incase I damaged the drive?
Yep, that noise made me panic and I thought my brand new PS5 was about to implode.
Did the same and it's still kinda loud! Don't know if I should do it again or leave it like that...
I had to do this with mine. But a couple of times as the first time I did like your vid but with no joy. So repeated the process but this time I turned the screw till the disc was completely out. This fixed mine.
Glad to hear it eventually worked.
Finding the instructions and understanding them has been pretty hard. So I figured a video would help a lot of people
@@GearsAndTech yes the vid is really helpful. As I struggled with the solution to this problem through Sony’s support page. Had to look it up on the internet first.
@@Simmys Since you fully took out the disc, has the buzzing sound returned?
I only tried until it peeks out, and the buzzing returned around two days later.
@@GearsAndTech After a couple of weeks of applying the fix, has the buzzing returned for you? Have you tried with a physical copy of Miles Morales, that appears to make the disc drive run at max RPM (Upon install, cold system boot up AND those hourly disc checks)
I don't have that game to test it with
I do still have a slight buzz but not as bad as it was originally.
Honestly though I don't use the disc drive much as I mostly play warzone with is a downloaded game.
Love you man, you saved my ears
Everyone but you says to eject the disc fully. Waited till it was just peaking out and now it won't accept disc's at all. Thanks alot...
I provided the exact instruction straight from Sony.
If it won't take discs do the same thing but in reverse
Wow in my case it made a huge difference big thanks from Germany
